The Rings of Power Valentine’s Week Day 1 - OT3

@somebirdortheother and I kick off Valentine’s week with a what seems to be a massively underrepresented OT3: Durin, Disa and Elrond

Dwarves in general: I hate those pointy-eared fairies! Thorin, Gimli, Durin IV, Disa and Kili: Touch my pointy-eared Twink, and you will have your head separated from your body in a no gentle way and with a lot of pain involved, scum! Even though they don't really need our protection… Bilbo, Legolas, Elrond and Tauriel: excuse them, they're a too protective!

I love how every adaptation I've seen of Middle-Earth likes to give pointy-eared characters (hobbit, elves or half-elven) to a falsely grumpy, and totally possessive, dwarves. Is this becoming a fanon tradition in Tolkien adaptations? Because I'm loving it! Do not stop!

I'm loving relationships Bilbo & Thorin, Gimli & Legolas, Durin IV/Disa & Elrond and Kili & Tauriel! So this is just a poor contribution sketch...

We know that Durin was angry in season 1 because Elrond stopped contacting him for twenty years, but did he ever try to reach out to make sure that his bestie wasn't lying injured in a ditch somewhere? Or did he just sulk? Tbh, I think that is why Disa is warm to Elrond right at the beginning. Because if my husband's bestie ghosted him and didn't reply to any messages and then just waltzed back in after twenty years, I'd probably kick him in the balls. The reason why Disa was so nice and happy to see him was because she knew Durin had been just as bad.

We got a Disa and Durin kiss, an Isildur and Estrid kiss, poppy kissed a guy she met a couple of days ago, we even got an Elrond and Galadriel kiss!! But still no Elendil and Miriel kiss!!!! They could have at least hugged!! 😭

Episode 2.5 of "Rings of Power" was fantastic!!! 😀 One of their best, if not the best of the season with all those twists, performances, and Easter eggs. Going to put the spoilery stuff behind a cut but loved that a post jokingly made last year about how I thought Sauron was going to start acting like Spike from "Buffy" actually happened with that one scene. LOL 😂

Both the Charlies did amazing last night as Sauron/Annatar and Celebrimbor!!! 😀 From seeing how Sauron is manipulating Celebrimbor and getting him to make the 9 rings for the men now too, and then Celebrimbor is starting to regret this and it's getting so sad knowing what's coming. I still think we won't see who the 9 men are till next season with Battle of Eregion being the next 3 episodes, but nice to see this storyline starting and Sauron also talking about Numenor and knowing he'll go back there at some point.

Then the scene with Sauron and Mirdania where he compared her to Galadriel and touched her hair was crazy to actually see happen!!! 😀 A lot of us wondered if something like that would and also show that Sauron still thinks about Galadriel all the time with how much the actresses look alike. I know it was also to get Mirdania on his side, but that's the scene I mentioned about Spike from "Buffy". I jokingly wondered if something like this would happen as on that show Spike was in love with Buffy but she hated him and wanted nothing to do with him, so he started dating Harmony who also looks like her. There was even one moment where they role played with her as Buffy. LOL Eventually Spike's ex Drucilla kidnapped both Buffy and Harmony and forced Spike to admit he was in love with Buffy. So this brought back a lot for me being a Spuffy shipper, and seeing the similarities with Haladriel. I don't think this show is going to go any further with it like "Buffy" did, but I do think this showed more about Sauron's feelings for Galadriel and that they are real.

Then great storylines with the dwarves and showing how the rings are both helping and corrupting them. Then Disa finding the balrog, and the Doors of Durin being made. Also the Numenor plot is getting better but also tragic as the war has started and Kemen killed Valandil!!! 😲 Sad to see them destroy the temple too and arresting Elendil and going after Miriel. Plus, teasing Ar-Pharazon already thinking about Valinor.

Also great to see what visions Gil Galad is getting from his ring and Elrond trying to get him to help Eregion. And glad the see the ep end with Galadriel with Adar and the orcs and setting up the begining of their alliance. Can't wait to see what they talk about next week, and again the Battle starts next week too.

GOD I saw you writing on the rings of power and I thought I might make a request. Can you do something with Elrond/reader where they somehow end up together in Khazad-dûm and Disa and Durin are first like this: 🤨😮

And then they try with all their might to bring these idiots together, because their love for each other is obvious to everyone except themselves. (Sorry if this is stupid damn)

This request was not stupid at all!!! It was so cute, and I love writing Disa as a matchmaker, plus It allowed me to use one of my fav tropes! The "there's only one bed" trope, and that is always a win for me!!!! I hope you enjoy!!!

Durin and Disa: Matchmakers Extraordinaire

You were excited to join Elrond on his visit to Khazad-dûm. He had spent hours upon hours telling you of its beauty, and of the kindness of Durin and his family. Truly, you were excited to spend time with Elrond away from the suitors that clamored after you.

So many elflords were vying for your hand, but for a reason you could not seem to understand, none of them felt right to you. They were either too brash, or too shy, too extraverted, or too introverted, too messy, or too neat. Little things continued to trip you up, and you desired to spend time alone with Elrond in order to clear your mind.

“This is the home of Prince Durin, one of my dearest friends.” Elrond said, and he knocked on the door.

It swung open, and two dwarf children darted past you, both causing you to stumble back in surprise. Elrond’s quick reflexes caught you.

You started up at him, embarrassed that your own reflexes hadn’t prevented you from being startled.

“Are you alright?” He asked.

You nodded. “Merely embarrassed, but unharmed nonetheless.���

He righted you, his hands still on your waist.

A sharp cough came from the doorway and you both jolted apart.

“Durin, Disa, how wonderful to see you both again.”

“Three visits in a year? You must feel real guilty, elf.” Durin said, his face serious for a moment before it cracked into a smile, and he wrapped his arms around Elrond picking him up in a hug.

Elrond laughed and, you did as well, once he was set down and you both were ushered into the dwarf prince’s home.

“So, y/n, how long have you known our Elrond?” Disa asked, setting a steaming bowl of stew before you.

“It feels to be eons, but truly we made each other’s acquaintance semi-recently.” You told her, inhaling the delicious smell of her cooking.

“Y/N is an archivist from Eregion, Celebrimbor recommended her for the position in Lindon. She is highly skilled and a lovely traveling companion.” Elrond said, giving you a smile.

You ducked your head. “Elrond is being a flatter as usual; our journey was only so entertaining because he tells such wondrous tales, he really is a magnificent orator.”

Durin shot Elrond a look, who only furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

“And you are not married?” Durin asked abruptly, making Disa smack his arm.

You laughed, “no, I am not. My father has been encouraging me to find someone, but…” You trailed off for a moment, eyes meeting Elrond’s before they flickered away. “I cannot seem to find the right match.”

“That is a shame.” Disa said, ladling more stew into your nearly empty bowl.

“Thank you—I am not too concerned, I love my work, and I have friends to keep me company.”

“Like Elrond.” Durin said.

“Yes, he has, in a short time, become a dear friend of mine.” You smiled at the elf, and he returned it, a fondness in his oakwood eyes that made you feel pleasantly warm.

“And you Elrond, still no wedding you wish to invite us to?” Disa asked, a teasing smile on her face.

He shook his head, eyes flickering to you for a moment before returning to Disa. “No, I like y/n, am content with my work and friendships.”

Durin mumbled something under his breath, and Disa giggled.

Elrond raised an eyebrow, and you looked at him in confusion.

“So, will you both be staying the night?” Disa asked, as she began to clear the table.

“If it is no bother?” Elrond directed the question towards Disa which made Durin grumble.

You stood as well and began to help Disa.

“No, not at all, though the children have their own rooms now, so we only have the one guest room.”

You froze and Disa took the bowls from you, unfazed.

“Of course, I can find other accom—”

“You will stay in my house, I will not have others think I throw my guests to the elements.” Durin said firmly.

You snapped back into action and smiled at him. “That is very kind, Prince Durin, thank you.”

You and Elrond stood in the guest room, staring at the bed.

“Well, it is large enough for two.” You said, slowly setting your pack on the floor.

“I would not put your honor at risk in such a way.” Elrond protested, already rummaging in his pack for his bedroll.

“We are in the home of your dearest friend, and unless you plan to ravish me, I believe my honor will remain intact.” Your cheeks heated at your words, and you distracted yourself with smoothing down the large blanket.

You could hear the embarrassment in his voice. “I would never—I only meant to—”

You giggled and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Elrond, I jest, we will put a pillow between us if it will make you more comfortable.”

You slid into the bed and Elrond extinguished the lamps, before doing the same.

You put a pillow between you, and promptly drifted off to sleep.

When you awoke, there was a weight on your back, and a hard chest beneath your head. You opened your eyes to find Elrond’s sleeping face. A few more moments were all it took to figure out what had happened. Sometime in the night, either you or Elrond had moved towards the other, and you ended up like this. Your head on his chest, legs tangled together, his arm slung across your lower back.

You buried your face in his nightshirt, breathing in the scent of parchment and pine. “I would not be upset to awaken in your arms each morning.” You whispered, glad he was asleep and could not hear your words.

 You had never given much thought to a romantic life with Elrond. Since you met him, you had forgotten what it was like to ever be without him. Now? The idea of marrying someone else and being separated from him, made you feel cold, he was your sun, your warmth. And the idea of him marrying another sent a vile coil of jealousy through you.

Gathering up your courage, you rose up slightly and brushed your lips against his. “I think I may be in love with you.” You whispered once more, admiring his calm features.

As you stared at him, his eyes opened and a smile spread on his face. “I am in love with you.” He said, hand cupping the back of your neck and gently pushing you back down to meet his lips.

You climbed further atop him, cupping his face as he sat up, arms around you and in your hair, as his lips meshed with yours. Warm tingles settled in your skin and heat rushed to your core as Elrond’s lips parted, and his tongue nudged yours apart.

You let out a small whimper as his tongue explored you, the taste of honey and blackberries burst on your tongue, and your chest brushed his as he pulled you ever closer.

A loud cough caused you both to jolt apart, and you wanted to bury yourself under the blanket when you saw Durin and Disa standing in the doorway, wide smiles on their faces.

“I knew it.” Durin said, clapping his hands together in satisfaction.

“Yes, but you still owe me. Y/N seems to be the initiator.” Disa said smugly, holding her hand out.

Durin grumbled, and dropped a few coins into her hand.

“Breakfast will be in a few minutes.” Disa said, smiling, before she and Durin left, shutting the door behind them.

Headcanon time

Galadriel saw the state that Elrond was in after Elros died. So she disapproves of his close relationship with Durin and Disa because one day, they too will leave him. Elrond insists that it is his risk to take and then when Durin and Disa come for a visit with the kids, he points out that he will always have a small part of them even after they've gone because Gerda and Gamli are so like their parents. And dwarf family traits are strong. He knows there will always be a small part of Durin and Disa in the world.
