#had an interesting conversation with my sister the other day. odd i guess bc my sister is pretty smart#on paper shes smarter than me. or at least less dyslexic than me#but she didnt seem to kno what cancer is. i mean like how it works. i mean. cancer is a mistake. a confluence of unfortunate accidents#leading to unrestrained cellular growth. when it metastasizes. when it moves to other parts of the body. those same cells continue growing#if u have smooth muscle cancer and it moves to your kidney. you body is trying to grow more smooth muscle on your kidney#at least as i understand it. and she asked why it wants to kill you. it doesnt want anything. it just is. its not a thing of malicious#intent. its neutral. it grows. it takes up resources. it takes up space. and it grows and grows until the organ it grows on stops#functioning properly. like a parasite she said. but no. not like a parasite. it grows like an empty space. a mass of flesh. a constant#obstructive pressure. it grows like only a tumor can. i dunno. it didnt seem to connect with her that this thing didnt want to kill our mom#but it did anyway. and she felt weird about how long she lived after they took her off any support. but thats how cancer kills#it stops an organ from functioning and most of those r important so it only takes one. so her heart kept beating for 12 more hrs bc it was#meant to beat for 40 more years. but not much it could do without working kidneys and without working blood#but that's life. that's death. that's nature. its all nutral even if it feels horrible to the individual.#i dunno. i thought it was interesting. shes 25 and her mother had cancer for 10 years so id think shed kno more#we're at a weird phase now bc its been a week since she died and everything feels normal. we'll see what happens at the wake this week#its been interesting for sure bc she was sick for 10 years but my parents didnt prepare at all for her to die#so my dad is scrambling to put together the pieces shr left behind to make sure that all the bills r paid and whatnot. he had to guess her#computer password. she didnt tell us what she wanted us to have. she didnt tell us the importance of her jewelry and who it belonged to#before her. i dunno. we're seeing the outline of my mothers Pathology in what she left behind. both in the physical objects and in the#feelings she imparted. i dunno. its been weird#unrelated

RAFE CAMERON ⢠the language of roses
x FEM!reader ⢠MASTERLIST
SUMMARY: your entire life rafe had been giving you roses in different colours, but you never knew what he really wanted to say
WORD COUNT: 3956
GENRE: fluff
CONTENT WARNING: english is NOT my first language, soft!rafe cameron, oblivious!reader
rafe cameron was the kind of kid who never sat still. always running, climbing, jumping off something too high just to prove he could. but there was one thing he always slowed down for: you.
you didnât know why, back then. it wasnât like youâd done anything special. you were just the girl who lived two houses down, the one who tagged along on all his adventures because you were good at keeping up. youâd follow him through the woods behind the cameron house, across the sandy dunes near the water, and even onto the roof of the clubhouse his dad had built in their backyard.
but every so often, heâd stop, like heâd remembered something important, and heâd disappear for a minute or two.
the first time it happened, you were seven. youâd been playing hide-and-seek in the cameron yard, and youâd been crouched behind the garden shed for what felt like forever, waiting for him to find you. when he finally did, he was grinning, his hair messy and sticking to his forehead. in his hand was a single yellow rose.
âwhatâs that for?â youâd asked, wrinkling your nose.
âitâs for you,â he said, holding it out like it was no big deal.
âwhy?â
heâd shrugged. âjust âcause. youâre my best friend.â
that became his thing.
when you scraped your knee climbing a tree, rafe handed you a yellow rose from his momâs garden and said, âitâll make you feel better.â
when you had to spend a week at your grandparentsâ house and came back sulking about missing the beach, there he was with another yellow rose.
âwhat does it mean?â youâd asked one day, sitting cross-legged on his bed as he sorted through his pokĂŠmon cards.
âwhat?â he asked, not looking up.
âthe roses. why do you always give me yellow ones?â
he paused, his hands stilling. âitâs just⌠you know. the prettiest one i could find.â
âoh.â
heâd gone back to his cards, but youâd stared at the flower on the bedside table, something about it making your chest feel funny.
by the time you were ten, the roses felt like part of your routine. if you had a bad day at school, rafe would show up with one tucked behind his ear, waiting for you at your front door.
âhere,â heâd say, handing it over with a grin. âitâs magic. makes everything better.â
âthatâs not how magic works,â youâd reply, but you always accepted it anyway.
it wasnât just the big moments, either. sometimes he gave you roses just because. like when youâd meet him at the playground on a sunny afternoon, or when heâd knock on your window late at night to tell you about a new fort he wanted to build in the woods.
âanother one?â youâd tease, twirling the stem between your fingers.
âyep.â
âwhatâs it for this time?â
âi dunno. just wanted to give it to you.â
you never questioned it. rafe was rafe. the roses were just part of the deal.
but one day, when you were twelve, something changed.
heâd been quiet all afternoon, which wasnât like him. usually, rafe was the loudest person in the room, always cracking jokes or talking a mile a minute. but that day, as you sat side by side on the dock near his house, he barely said a word.
âwhatâs up with you?â you asked, nudging him with your elbow.
ânothing,â he muttered, staring at the water.
âyouâre lying.â
he looked at you then, his blue eyes serious in a way that made your stomach flip. after a long moment, he reached into his bag and pulled out another yellow rose.
âhere,â he said quietly.
you took it, studying his face. ârafe, whatâs wrong?â
ânothing,â he said again, but this time, he gave you a small smile. âi just wanted you to have it. thatâs all.â
you didnât push him. instead, you leaned your head against his shoulder, the rose resting in your lap.
âthanks,â you whispered.
âanytime,â he replied.
by the time you were twelve, the yellow roses were a part of you. a part of him. they showed up in places they didnât belongâpressed between notebook pages, tucked into old shoeboxes, even wilting in jars on your windowsill. you didnât really know why you kept them, but you couldnât throw them away. they were yours.
but then, something changed, again.
it happened on a random summer afternoon. the sun was blazing, and you were sprawled out in the cameron backyard, sipping lemonade while rafe fixed the broken tire swing.
âyouâre gonna break your neck,â you called out, watching him balance precariously on the wooden frame.
he rolled his eyes but didnât answer. rafe never did listen to you when it came to stuff like this.
when he finally hopped down, covered in dirt and grass, he didnât head straight for the lemonade like you expected. instead, he disappeared into the house without a word.
âwhat are you doing?â you shouted after him, but he didnât answer.
a few minutes later, he came back, holding something behind his back.
âclose your eyes,â he said, a grin tugging at his lips.
âwhy?â
âjust do it!â
you sighed but obeyed, covering your face with your hands. âthis better not be another bug.â
âitâs not,â he promised, laughing. âokay, open.â
when you did, he was standing there with a single white rose.
âwhatâs this for?â you asked, staring at the delicate petals.
he shrugged, looking almost shy. âjust thought youâd like it.â
âbut⌠why white?â
âi dunno,â he said, scratching the back of his neck.
you didnât know what to say, so you just smiled and took it from him, your fingers brushing against his for half a second. you didnât notice the way his cheeks turned pink, or the way he stared at you a little too long before turning back to the swing.
that was the first white rose.
after that, the yellow roses didnât come often anymore. instead, youâd find white onesâon your doorstep, in your locker, or handed over with a casual, âhere, this is for you.â
you never asked why.
by the time you were fourteen, white roses were the new normal. rafe had grown taller, his voice deeper, his confidence sharper. but when he gave you roses, he was still the same boy youâd known forever.
âfor me?â you asked one day, twirling the stem of yet another white rose.
âwho else?â he replied, grinning.
then came your sixteenth birthday. you didnât expect anything bigâjust a day at the beach with rafe, like always. but when he showed up at your door, he wasnât empty-handed.
âwhatâs this?â you asked, staring at the bouquet of pink roses in his hands.
he shrugged, but his usual confidence was missing. âbirthday gift,â he said, thrusting them toward you.
you took them, your heart racing. âtheyâre⌠really pretty.â
âyeah, well. so are you.â
the words hung in the air, heavier than they shouldâve been. you stared at him, your cheeks burning, and for the first time, you didnât know what to say.
by the time you were seventeen, things had changed. it wasnât just the way you and rafe had grown upâit was the way heâd changed.
you could see it the moment he introduced herâlily, the new girl with the perfect hair and the perfect laugh and the perfect smile. she was everything you werenât, and you hated how easily rafe seemed to fall for her.
but that wasnât the worst part.
the worst part was that the roses stopped.
it was a sudden thing. at first, there were other flowersâa bouquet of daisies here, a random tulip thereâbut never roses. not the yellow ones youâd grown used to, not the white ones or the pink ones that had become a quiet declaration between the two of you. just... no flowers.
at first, you told yourself it didnât matter. it didnât. rafe had a girlfriend now.
he didnât owe you roses anymore.
but you missed them. you missed the thoughtfulness, the friendship, the feeling that, no matter what, you still had a place in his life.
and then the your biggest fear came trueâhe stopped being your friend altogether.
lily didnât like how close you and rafe had been. she didnât want him hanging out with his girl best friend anymore. so rafe, being rafe, did what he always did when he felt cornered: he let go.
you didnât get it at first. heâd stopped answering your texts, stopped showing up at the usual spots. at school, heâd walk by you without even looking up. youâd sit at lunch, watching him and lily from the other side of the cafeteria, and it made your chest ache in a way you couldnât explain.
there were no more texts to plan beach trips or late-night talks. no more spontaneous hangouts. nothing.
you tried reaching out once, twice, even three times, but it was always the sameâshort answers, distant replies, the kind that made it clear he didnât want to try anymore.
it was too painful. so you stopped trying.
instead, you focused on other thingsâother people.
it wasnât like you didnât have friends, but the friends you had before had always been people who had fallen into your life by default. you had never needed to work for them. they were always there, easy to hold on to. but now, as you walked down the hallway of your high school with a new group of girlsâgirls who wanted to be your friends, who made an effort to include you, to laugh with you, to spend time with youâyou realized something important.
you were learning to let go too.
the girls were different. they were fun and supportive in ways you hadnât realized you were missing. no one ever told you to back off from their boyfriends. no one ever gave you that uncomfortable look when you were laughing too loudly with one of the guys in the group.
it was easier, in a way. no complications. no unspoken feelings. just fun, carefree friendships.
but you couldnât help but feel that gnawing ache in your chest whenever you saw rafe and lily together. it was like a quiet reminder that everything between you and him was over.
and then, one day, you saw it.
lily posted a story on instagramâa picture of a vase of flowers. they were bright and pretty, but there was something painfully obvious about them. they werenât roses.
never roses.
they were daisies. lilies. tulips.
anything but roses.
you looked over at your new group of friendsâlaughing at something ridiculous, pulling you into their conversationâand for the first time in a long while, you realized something important: you were okay.
no, you werenât fine. you missed rafe. you missed your best friend. but you werenât going to stay in the past.
there was a part of you that hoped rafe would realize what heâd lost, that maybe, one day, heâd come back and apologize. but for now, you had other things to focus on.
and maybe that was enough for now.
but still, you didnât expect to see rafe cameron waiting for you after school.
the day had been uneventfulâjust the usual classes, the usual laughs with your friends, the usual reminder in the back of your mind that rafe wasnât part of your world anymore.
but there he was. leaning against the wall near the parking lot, his hands shoved deep in his pockets, his hair a mess like heâd been running his fingers through it all day.
your first instinct was to ignore him. he hadnât spoken to you in months. months. heâd chosen lily, chosen her rules, chosen to let go of everything youâd shared.
but something about the way he lookedâlost, broken, sadâstopped you.
you stepped closer, hesitant. ârafe?â
his head snapped up, his blue eyes locking onto yours. for a second, he didnât say anything, just stared at you like he couldnât believe you were real.
âhey,â he said finally, his voice hoarse.
âwhat are you doing here?â you asked, your tone sharper than you meant it to be.
he flinched, but he didnât back down. âi... i needed to see you.â
âwhy?â
âbecauseââ he broke off, running a hand through his hair. âbecause i screwed up. and because i didnât know where else to go.â
you crossed your arms, trying to ignore the way your chest tightened. âwhat about lily?â
he laughed, but it wasnât a happy sound. âsheâs gone. we broke up.â
âoh.â
you didnât know what else to say. part of you wanted to walk away, to tell him it wasnât your problem anymore. but the other partâthe bigger part, the one that still caredâcouldnât do it.
âcome on,â you said, jerking your head toward your car.
he blinked, surprised. âreally?â
âyeah,â you muttered. âletâs go.â
the drive back to your house was quiet, the air between you heavy with things unsaid. when you got home, you led him to your room, just like you always used to.
he sat on the edge of your bed, looking around like he couldnât believe he was there again. âyou changed it,â he said, his voice soft.
âyeah,â you replied, sitting cross-legged on the other side. âitâs been a while.â
he nodded, staring down at his hands. âiâm sorry.â
âfor what?â
âfor everything. for shutting you out. for choosing her. for being an idiot.â
you didnât say anything, letting the silence stretch between you.
âi missed you,â he said finally, his voice barely above a whisper.
you looked at him then, really looked at him, and you saw itâthe boy youâd grown up with, the one who used to make you laugh until your stomach hurt, the one who always brought you roses.
âi missed you too,â you admitted.
his head snapped up, his eyes filled with something you couldnât quite name. âyeah?â
âyeah,â you said, smiling faintly. âbut youâre still an idiot.â
he laughed, and for a moment, it was like nothing had changed.
you talked for hours, just like you used to. about everything and nothing, about the way life had shifted and the things youâd both been through. it was easy, familiar, like slipping back into an old rhythm.
when he finally stood to leave, you followed him to the door, your heart heavier than you wanted to admit.
âthanks for... for letting me in,â he said, his hand lingering on the doorknob.
âyouâre always welcome,â you said softly.
he nodded, gave you one last look, and then he was gone.
when you turned back toward your room, something caught your eyeâa splash of color on your bed.
frowning, you walked closer, and your breath caught in your throat.
a single purple rose rested on your pillow.
you picked it up, your fingers trembling as you held it to your chest.
you sank onto the bed, staring at the flower, your mind spinning.
he hadnât said it, but he didnât need to. the rose said everything he couldnât.
and for the first time in a long while, you felt like maybeâjust maybeâyou and rafe werenât finished after all.
by the time you were eighteen, you and rafe had found your way back to each other.
it hadnât been easy, not at first. there were awkward silences, half-finished sentences, and moments where you both stumbled over how to act around each other. but slowly, the cracks healed. the space between you shrank. and before you knew it, you were best friends again, just like youâd been before everything fell apart.
except now, things were different in a way you couldnât quite put your finger on. it wasn't different as in your roses changed from yellow to white, it was just... different.
rafe spent more time with you and your friends than he did with his own. heâd show up at your place unannounced, invite himself to girlsâ nights, and make himself at home in your little world. your friends loved himâwho wouldnât? he was funny, charming, and could win over just about anyone with a crooked smile and a well-timed joke.
and then there were the roses.
at first, it had felt like slipping back into an old routine. rafe had always given you flowersâyellow for friendship, white for something deeper, pink for gratitude and love. so when he started showing up with four roses every time he saw you, you didnât think much of it.
a pink rose, soft and sweet. a white rose, pure and delicate. a yellow rose, bright and cheerful. and a dark pink rose, richer, deeper, full of meaning you didnât quite understand.
âwhatâs this for?â youâd ask every time, your voice teasing.
âdo i need a reason?â heâd reply, smirking as he handed them over.
youâd roll your eyes, tuck them into a vase, and move on.
it wasnât until one friday night, when rafe wasnât there, that your friends brought it up.
you were sprawled out on your living room floor with your two best friends, abby and jen, eating popcorn and flipping through magazines. the absence of rafeâs usual presence was noticeable, but you didnât mention it.
âso,â abby said, sitting up and tossing a kernel into her mouth. âare you and rafe, like... a thing?â
you blinked, startled. âwhat?â
jen raised an eyebrow. âyou and rafe. are you dating?â
you laughed, the sound a little too loud. âno. what? no way. weâre just friends.â
âjust friends?â abby repeated, her tone skeptical.
âyes,â you said firmly. âweâve been best friends since we were kids. thatâs all it is.â
jen exchanged a look with abby, then turned back to you. âokay, but... the roses?â
âwhat about them?â
âhe gives you flowers every time he sees you!â abby said, throwing her hands up.
âso? heâs always done that.â
âalways?â jen asked, her eyes wide.
âyeah,â you said with a shrug. âsince we were six.â
both girls gaped at you like youâd just confessed to a crime.
âyouâre telling me,â abby said slowly, âthat rafe cameron has been giving you flowers for twelve years, and youâve never thought it was weird?â
âitâs not weird,â you said defensively. âitâs just... a thing we do. it doesnât mean anything.â
âit definitely means something,â jen said, crossing her arms. âguys donât give roses to their best friends for over a decade unless theyâre in love with them.â
âheâs not in love with me,â you said, rolling your eyes.
âbabe,â abby said, leaning forward. âdark pink roses? those mean, like, admiration and gratitude, but also... yâknow. romance.â
you opened your mouth to argue, but the words stuck in your throat.
âand white roses? purity. pink? love. yellow? friendship. heâs literally giving you every part of him in flower form,â jen added.
you stared at them, your mind racing.
âheâs... heâs just being rafe,â you said weakly.
âexactly,â abby said. âand rafe is in love with you.â
their words echoed in your head long after the conversation ended, and when you went to bed that night, your eyes drifted to the vase on your desk.
four roses. pink, white, yellow, dark pink.
youâd never questioned them before. but now, for the first time, you wondered if maybeâjust maybeâthere was more to them than youâd ever let yourself believe.
your nineteenth birthday was minutes away, and you were already in bed.
well, technically you were sitting on your bed, legs crossed, scrolling through your phone while waiting for the clock to hit midnight. your hair was twisted into perfect curls, your nose strip was firmly in place, and your face was freshly moisturizedâyour skincare routine impeccable as always.
you werenât expecting anything. your friends had already promised to make a big deal out of it tomorrow, and you figured the actual moment of your birthday would pass quietly, just you and your phone and a sleepy smile.
but then you heard the faint scrape of your window.
at first, you froze. was someone trying to break in?
ârelax,â came a familiar voice, low and teasing. âitâs just me.â
ârafe?â
you slid off your bed, rushing to the window to find him perched on the ledge, one hand gripping the frame, the other holding something behind his back.
âwhat are you doing?â you hissed, trying to keep your voice down. âitâs midnight!â
âexactly,â he said, flashing that boyish grin that always got him out of trouble. âhappy birthday.â
you blinked, completely thrown off. âyou climbed up here for that?â
he shrugged, effortlessly pulling himself through the window and into your room. âyouâre worth it.â
âyouâre insane.â
âand youâve got... something on your nose,â he said, his gaze locking onto the strip.
your cheeks flushed. youâd completely forgotten about your skincare situation.
âoh my god, i look ridiculous,â you muttered, turning away from him.
âno, you look... like you,â he said, his voice softer now.
you glanced back at him, narrowing your eyes. âwhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âit means i like you better like this,â he said simply. âno makeup, no filters, just... you.â
before you could respond, he brought his hand forward, revealing the bouquet heâd been holding.
âhere,â he said, holding it out to you.
you stared at it, your heart doing a strange little flip. the roses were beautifulâsoft pastel purple, deep dark purple, a single vivid red, and of course, the familiar yellow.
ârafe,â you whispered, taking them from him. âyou didnât have toââ
âyeah, i did,â he cut you off. âyou deserve them.â
ârafe...â you started, but the words wouldnât come.
he shrugged like it was no big deal, but the way he looked at you told you otherwise. âhappy birthday,â he said again, his voice soft, his eyes searching yours.
you stared at him, your heart thudding in your chest. the weight of the flowers in your hands, the warmth in his gaze, the fact that heâd climbed through your window just to be the first to see you on your birthdayâit was all too much and somehow just enough.
âthank you,â you whispered, your voice unsteady.
he stepped closer, his hand brushing against yours as you clutched the bouquet.
âyouâre everything to me, you know that?â he said, the words tumbling out like he couldnât hold them back any longer.
your heart stopped for a moment, then started again, faster, louder.
ârafe...â
he shook his head, his hands moving to gently frame your face. âyou donât have to say anything. just... can Iâ?â
he didnât finish the sentence, but you understood.
âyes,â you breathed, barely able to get the word out.
he leaned in slowly, giving you plenty of time to pull away, but you didnât. when his lips brushed yours, it was soft at first, tentative, like he was afraid youâd disappear.
but then you kissed him back, and something inside both of you broke free.
the roses slipped from your hands onto the bed, forgotten as you melted into him, your arms winding around his neck, his fingers tangling gently in your curls.
when you finally pulled back, your forehead rested against his, both of you breathing heavily, the world outside your room completely forgotten.
âhappy birthday,â he whispered again, his smile so full of affection it made your chest ache.
âbest one yet,â you replied, your own smile matching his.
and as he stayed by your side, your head resting on his shoulder, the roses scattered around you, you couldnât imagine a better way to start a new year of your life.
and for years, you kept them allâpressed between the pages of your favorite books, tucked into jars on your windowsill, little pieces of rafe that made you feel like the most important person in the world.
because to him, you were.

My favorite headcanons for caitvi are ones where they met as kids/teens, by far
Like it's so fucking cute, the idea that Caitlyn would be immediately drawn to Vi due to her curiosity, and Vi can't help but be smitten by Caitlyn's atypical behaviors and willingness to explore new concepts and experiences and ideas.
Just like when they meet as adults in the original universe, their backgrounds should make them incompatible, but there's that inexplicable draw that brings them together.
Imagine Caitlyn tags along with Jayce to his visits in the undercity without telling her parents and can't stop staring at the pink haired girl she sees there at the shop, just hanging around, and they meet eyes, and BOOM, instant connection. Vi also sneaks glances and realizes she's never seen a Piltie girl her age this close before. She wonders if they're all this pretty.
Imagine Vi is sneaking around topside to catch glimpses of Caitlyn, because she feels like she shouldn't be so drawn to a Piltie, but she is anyway.
Imagine one day Caitlyn actually catches sight of Vi across the street as she tries to remain inconspicuous, but Caitlyn would recognize that pink hair in a heartbeat. Imagine she sneaks away from her mother or whoever she's with in order to go talk to her.
"It's you," she says, shy yet bold.
Vi, of course, tries to play it off. "Dunno what you're talking about, topside." But the blush on her cheeks tells another story.
Caitlyn ignores the very obvious attempts at ignorance. "I've been wanting to come visit the shop again, but it's hard for me to find the chance to get away from my mother. She's kind of overprotective."
Vi decides it's best not to play dumb, but can't completely be honest about wanting to see her as well. "You're sure you wanna share about your life with me? Maybe your mom's got a point, shouldn't associate with undercity trash and all."
Caitlyn frowns. "I don't think you're trash. That's silly. Why would you call yourself that?"
Vi is caught a bit off guard. "Isn't that what all you Pilties think of us?"
"I certainly don't." Caitlyn cocks her head as this leaves Vi without a response. "Why are you here, anyway?"
Vi stumbles around in her head for an answer. Shoves her hands in her pockets. Kicks a rock aside. Shrugs. "W-why are YOU talking to me?"
This makes Caitlyn smirk. "I DID say I've been meaning to come back to the shop. What do you think?"
"Dunno. Could want a number of things there." Vi has been staring at the ground but peers up at Caitlyn here. "Give me a hint?" The barest of upturned lips.
This makes Caitlyn break out into a genuine smile that steals Vi's breath a bit. "You're kind of adorable, you know that?"
Vi sputters. "Am NOT."
"Are so." Caitlyn tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. Can't help but think the girl's freckles compliment her blush well.
Vi rolls her eyes, trying to pretend her brain isn't setting off fireworks. "I don't even know your name."
"Would you like to know it?" Caitlyn says, tilting her head.
"Since you insist on teasing me, I think it's fair."
"But you make it so easy," Caitlyn giggles. "Alright. I'm Caitlyn."
"Caitlyn," Vi breathes. Shakes her head. Clears her throat. Thrusts her hand out, scuffed up palms and knuckles and all. "I'm Vi."
"Vi. Pleasure to meet you." Caitlyn takes her hand without hesitation, notices how rough they feel compared to hers, incredibly intrigued.
"Caitlyn!" A voice calls. The girls both turn. It's her mother.
"Shit." Caitlyn breathes.
This makes Vi laugh, surprised. "Didn't know princesses could use words like that."
"Oh, hush." Caitlyn looks back at her, panicked. "I have to go. I'm sorry." Her eyes shift so they're alight with mischief. She jerks her head towards her mom. "You've got a talent for sneaking around, I assume?"
"And if I do?"
"Wait until we're out of sight. Maybe if you're good enough, you can stay under her radar." Caitlyn smirks. "Maybe you could teach me how to sneak about myself. Could come in handy."
Without giving Vi a chance to respond, she turns away, skirt swishing about.
And if Vi does exactly what Caitlyn says, following her home out of sight, and later taps at the same glass doors of the balcony she sees the girl disappear into after a while of spying, no one is the wiser. She figures she doesn't need to tell Vander what she's been up to just yet.

Carter could hear his car approaching before it even came into view.
She had been grounded for two weeks, caught out with Topper on his granddadâs boat past curfew, and she had never been more bored in her life. Slumped back on the couch, she dipped her hand in the bag to grab another chip, pausing mid-bite when she heard the familiar hum of Rafeâs truck engine growl down the street.
âOh fuck no,â she hopped off the couch, a trail of crumbs in her wake as she jogged to the front door.Â
Though she knew you were away for the afternoon, your mom taking you to tour a local college on the mainland, she instinctively double checked that your car was still gone. She was thankful you werenât here to see him in his oversized ego-mobile zipping down your street like he owned it.
Youâd been devastated all week, crying yourself to sleep in the wake of seeing Rafe kiss Cassie Bryant. Nothing made Carter angrier than knowing you were hurt and not being able to do anything about it.Â
She couldnât believe his nerve to show up here. Heâd been texting to you all week, clearly not taking your lack of response for the answer that it was. You were finally finding the strength to stay away from him, and she was not about to let that unravel.
She stood on the front porch, closing the door firmly behind her, arms crossed and stance wide like she was prepared to defend her castle. Really, she was prepared to defend you.
Rafe parallel parked on the street, some misogynistic country song blaring from his subwoofers. Carter rolled her eyes at the way his massive truck took up enough space for two cars, always claiming what wasnât his, taking and taking and giving nothing in return.
Closing the driverâs door with a bang, Rafe hopped down from his truck and strolled toward the house, stopping short in the front walk when he noticed Carter glaring out at him.
âYou have some fucking nerve, Cameron,â she spat at him.
âIâm not here for you,â he glared back.
âWell no one else in this house wants to talk to your ass right now so you can go ahead and turn right back around.â
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, âI just wanna know why she wasnât at my game today.â
âUh-oh,â she tilted her head in mock-sympathy, âdid ya lose?â
He clenched his jaw, an angry huff of air flaring his nostrils, âyeah, we lost.â
âGood.â
âCan you just let me in?â He started moving toward the front steps, but she didnât move from her spot blocking the door. âI need to talk to her and sheâs not answering my texts.â
âDo you think thatâs an accident?â She scoffed. âTake a hint.â
âOkay, whatâs your fucking problem, Carter?â He snapped the sentence off with a bite of her name.
âYouâre my problem, Rafe,â she bit right back.
âWhat the fuck did I do? Why isnât your sister answering my calls?â
âI dunno, maybe you should ask Cassie Bryant,â her hands uncrossed and rested on her hips.
Rafe stepped back, head dropping back in exasperation as he rolled his eyes at the sky.
âThatâs what this is about? Cassie and I are just hooking up, whatâs the big deal?â
âYou mean besides the fact that Cassieâs made my sisterâs life hell since they were in the same Kindergarten class?â She threw at him. âOr that youâve been dragging my sister along since she was six years old just to ditch her for some wannabe Addison Rae tiktok flop?â
âGod, youâre always so fucking dramatic, it isnât even like that,â he gestured toward the window of your bedroom, still assuming you were up there somewhere avoiding him, âyour sister knows weâre cool.â
âYouâre not cool, Rafe. Youâre an idiot,â she told him with a pitying shake of her head.Â
Rafe turned her words over in his head, finally stopping long enough to consider the possibility that heâd done more damage than he initially thought.
âIs she really mad at me?â He mumbled, tucking his hands into his pockets.
Carter sighed, âNo. Sheâs not mad at you. Sheâs never mad at you, thatâs the problem. You donât make her mad, you make her sad. All you ever do is make her sad.â
Shoulders falling, Rafe looked past Carter with a vacant stare. He looked so confused and distraught she almost felt bad for him. Almost.Â
âI didnât mean to make her sad,â he mumbled, almost at a whisper.
Carter scanned him with narrowed eyes, trying to decide if his penance was sincere. He looked down at his shoes, digging the tip of one into the stony walkway.
âHow do I fix it?â
Carter started to think maybe he was sincere after all, but she still wasnât sure he was in any place to be asking for advice.
âI donât know if you can,â she told him.
âIâm sure itâs not that bad,â he said hopefully, trying to console himself. âSheâll come around.â
He looked at Carter like he was actually expecting her to agree.
âAnd then what, Rafe?â She tilted her head, genuinely curious about the answer. âWhatâs the end game here? Youâll just make her sad for a few more months and then go off to school andâŚwhat?â
âI dunno,â he shrugged defensively. âI havenât thought about it.â
âExactly. You donât think things through. Thatâs always been your problem,â she informed him, âyou just do what you want and pay no attention to how it affects other people. If you really cared about her, you wouldnât keep putting her through the same shit over and over.â
âI do care about her,â he mumbled, her words beginning to penetrate his carefully constructed antagonistic armor.
âI wish I could believe that,â she shook her head sadly, âI wish she could believe that. At least when she did, she wasnât crying herself to sleep every night.â
Sour regret burned in his throat at the thought of your tears dripping onto your pillowcase, some unfamiliar heartache he didnât understand.Â
âMaybe you could convince her that I do,â he offered, âshe listens to you.â
âWhy would I do that?â Carter snapped.
âBecause then she wouldnât be so sad,â his voice was so feeble it was like he was shrinking right before her eyes, his tall, intimidating frame so small and inadequate under the towering shadow of his guilt.
âTell you what Rafe,â she began, âIâll try and convince her that you care about her if you can look me in the eyes and tell me with your whole chest that you wonât hurt her anymore, that you wonât use her to your advantage, or drop off the face of the earth for weeks not answering her texts, or kiss other girls right in front of her face. That youâll fight for her and put her before your own selfish bullshit. Can you make that promise?â
He wrung his hands, mindlessly adjusting the ring on his right forefinger, jaw clenched as he tried to will forth a convincing enough yes. He couldnât do it.
âThatâs what I thought,â Carter said. âIf you canât fight for her, thenâŚâ
âWhat?â He asked desperately, hoping sheâd offer him some olive branch shaped way out of the shame engulfing his chest.
âThen I am asking you- begging you really - to let her go. Stop texting, stop coming by the house, stop making promises youâre not gonna keep. Please. If not for me, then for her.â
âDo you think thatâs what she wants?â He asked.
âNo. But I think itâs what she needs,â she said, knowing it would kill you if you knew she was doing this, but believing with her whole heart that it was right.
Rafe rarely thought about the future. The farthest his mind went was the next few minutes in front of him. It was his fatal flaw, acting for the moment and not for the moment after, or the version of himself that would face the consequences of his poor choices. Yet, in this moment, he had the keen sense that his next move would be a pivotal one, the gravity of it making his feet feel heavy on the stone pathway. He could stay, he could argue, scream your name until you came out and talked to him. But then what? Would he have the courage to follow through? Was he enough of a man to handle the weight of your expectation?
Ultimately, he knew the right thing was to stay and fight, but the easy thing would be to just go.
So, as he almost always did, Rafe made the easy choice.
âOkay,â he nodded to Carter. âIâll let her go.â
âThank you,â she said, voice shaking with the fear that if you knew what she just convinced him to do, youâd never forgive her.Â
âIâm not doing it for you,â he made sure she knew before turning and climbing back into his truck.
Once in the driverâs seat, he pulled out his phone, looking at your name in his contacts. Like his fingers were moving without his mindâs permission, he deleted you. It didnât matter really, he thought, heâd remember your number on his deathbed. Heâd remember it all, and heâd hate himself forever for driving away.
Carter stayed on the porch, watching him go, praying desperately that youâd never find out she was the reason he left.
â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â
âWeâre gonna have to go back eventually,â you said.
Rafe sat behind you in the sand, holding you with his chin resting easy on your shoulder as you took in the sprawling pink sunrise together.Â
âSays who?â He countered.
You smiled, craning your neck to look up at him. His eyelids were heavy, purple under the eyes from the exhaustion of being awake all night.
âYouâre falling asleep,â you noticed.
âYeah because some girl kept me up all night, begging me to take her to the beach and kiss her,â he joked.
âExcuse me, sir, this was your idea!â You sat up and stretched, your words making him laugh despite his immediate discomfort at the loss of your body in his arms. âWhat time is it anyway?â
âI dunno,â he shrugged, âmy phoneâs in the car.â
âMine too,â you chuckled, âI hope Carterâs okay. She was looking rough before we left.â
He had half a mind to propose the two of you never leave the beach, but he could hear the genuine concern under your lighthearted words. He stood from the sand and dusted himself off, reaching out a hand to pull you to your feet. You took it with a smile, lingering for a moment as you stood, your hand in his, taking one last look around the beach, searching for some kind of landmark.
âWhat are you looking for?â He asked.
âI just want to remember exactly where we were,â you explained.
âWhy, you wanna recreate it?â He smiled softly at you.
âOh, I plan to recreate it many times,â you wink at him.
It took all his strength to leave that spot and head back to the car, back to the house full of people who werenât you, back to reality.
âI can drive,â he suggested, planning to take the slowest route possible, and actually follow the speed limit for the first time in his life.
As soon as he started the car up, your CD started blasting through the speakers. You laughed at each other, the catalyst of this whole encounter feeling like it was days ago. The time on the car radio told you itâd only been about two hours. You lifted your phone but the screen remained black.
âShit, itâs dead,â you told him, opening the glovebox and digging around for a charger.
While you were distracted, Rafe lifted his own phone from the cupholder heâd left it in. His screen did light up, displaying a slew of frantic texts from Topper and Kelce. He winced, wishing he hadnât looked. He didnât read the texts, not wanting whatever nonsense they were bothering him with to pop the blissful bubble wrapped around the two of you. He knew he shouldnât start off your newâŚwhatever this wasâŚby lying to you, but he needed to stay in this happy place just a little longer.
âMineâs dead too,â he lied, flipping the phone over in the cup holder to hide the screen.
âOf course Carter doesnât have a charger,â you sighed, âshe has like twenty hair ties and lipglosses, but no charger. Classic.â
âI know my way back,â he shrugged, âweâll be good.â
Rafe put the car in reverse, backing out of the little side road with his arm on the seat next to your head. You watched the way he turned in his seat to look out the back window, neck muscles flexing with the stretch and his big hand manipulating the steering wheel with ease.Â
For the first time in the sixteen years youâd known him, you didnât try to hide your gaze as you took him in. The same attraction that used to make you feel skittish and ashamed now settled over you peacefully, like an icy winter finally melting into a warm, bright spring. You looked at him all you wanted, noting every detail, taking mental photographs of every inch of his skin.
Youâd always thought he was cute - actually, no, you always thought he was hot as fuck - but now for the first time, you allowed yourself to look long enough to notice how beautiful he was. Pins and needles burst out all over your body as you realized how badly you needed to kiss him again.
Rafe could feel your eyes on him as he drove, choosing not to say anything and risk you looking away. He felt at home in your gaze, happier than he could ever remember being.
Inhibitions left back on the beach, you fearlessly reached out toward him, hand grazing gently over his jaw. You loved the ticklish little stubble that had grown there in just a few days without shaving. You smiled as you thought about the boy who could barely grow peach fuzz, now a man, strong and solid under your fingertips. Something warm and electric buzzed in your stomach, and you knew Rafe could feel it too, his skin heating under your tender touch.
âWhat are you thinking about?â He asked, keeping his eyes on the road but leaning slightly into your hand to encourage you to keep touching him.
âNothing,â you smiled, âIâve just never gotten to look at you this long.â
âIs it making you change your mind?â He smirked, clearly not worried about the answer, his confidence making him impossibly sexier.
âJust the opposite,â you confirmed, âI think youâre always gonna have to drive from now on.â
âWhyâs that?â
âWell now that Iâve gotten a good look I donât think I could keep my eyes on the road. I always had the hardest time not looking over at you.â
Rafe grinned wide as your hand slipped from his jaw to the back of his head, fingers lacing in his soft hair, scratching his scalp lovingly. There was no rhyme or reason to your movements, but you didnât care, you just needed your hands on him. He didnât seem to mind, head leaning back into your palm to let you know he needed you as much as you needed him.
âI know you did,â he said.
âHow?â You asked.
âBecause I could never keep myself from looking over at you,â he confessed.
A kaleidoscope of butterflies fluttered their way through your chest. Now you were certain- youâd never been more attracted to anyone as you were to him in this moment.
Rafe took your silent smile as a good sign, âdid I get another A with that line?â
Your hand slid slowly down to his shoulder, over the ridges and ripples of his arms, flexing under your soft touch, until you found his hand, pulling it into your own.Â
âGold stars, baby,â you smiled.
Rafeâs grip tightened on the steering wheel, the air in the car becoming thicker by the second as he shifted in his seat. You beamed at him, realizing with a flurry of excitement - you had Rafe Cameron flustered.
âYou like when I call you baby?â You purred, eager to see how far you could push it.
His grip tightened around your hand, âyou canât say shit like that to me when Iâm driving.â
You could feel the dam breaking. You needed him. Now.
âThen pull over.â
He finally took his eyes off the road for a second at that, looking over at you for confirmation; are you serious? You gave him a steely, lustful look in return; as a heart attack.
Rafe practically popped a tire turning the wheel hard and pulling the car down a side street, driving until he found a little secluded enclave by the beach, a perfectly private spot. He threw the car in park, making you laugh at the jolt it gave with his urgency. He didnât waste a second, reaching both hands over to grab your face and pull your lips to his.
You sighed into his mouth, no hesitancy holding you back from slipping your tongue between his lips. He pulled away just long enough to grit out a raspy, âcome here,â before throwing his seatbelt off.
You unbuckled your own, holding tight to his shoulders as you swung your leg over the console and climbed, somewhat awkwardly, into his lap. Your head fell back in laughter as your butt accidentally pressed the horn, the sound blasting through the quiet morning air. Rafe laughed too, easing your slight embarrassment as he reached down to slide the seat back.
Once you had more room, you pulled back to get a better look at him. He looked up at you with wide blue eyes, so gentle and kind in the way they took you in. Rafe reached up and brushed your hair over your shoulder, taking a deep breath as his hands grazed your shoulder.
âHey,â he whispered to fill the silence.
You cracked the slightest smile, unable to repress your amusement.
âWhat?â He puzzled.
âI just didnât imagine you to be soâŚsweet like this,â you explained, though you hated how the words sounded coming out of your mouth, afraid it would sound like a criticism and cause him to withdraw.
âOnly for you,â he said.
âUh oh,â you teased, hands laying flat over his chest as you leaned forward, relieved you hadnât ruined the moment after all, âis big bad Rafe Cameron going weak for me?â
âHe always has been,â he nodded, his dimples creasing his cheeks with his sheepish smile.
You slid your hands up to either side of his face, thumbs dipping into his dimples. Youâd always wanted to do that. You couldnât believe that after all that waiting and longing, you really could just lean forward and kiss him if you wanted to.Â
So you did, like you were trying to prove to yourself that this was actually real. The second your lips met his, you could tell he was thinking the same exact thing.
Rafeâs hands gripped your hips as he sat up off the seat just slightly to meet your mouth fervently. You bent over him, your hair falling in a curtain around his face. His hands felt so good, so right, warm and strong against you. You smiled into the kiss as you could feel them sliding so slowly, reverently, over your curves, until they found a home on your lower back, bringing you forward to rest fully against him. It was the same gentle control he had taken on the jetski, and it was addictive.
He was hard, you could feel him firm beneath you, and your head flooded with lustful thoughts. You rolled your body just slightly against him, but he felt every second of it, his hands sliding lower until he was kneading the flesh of your ass. Breathless, you paused, forehead against, another roll of your body as you pressed into him.
âDo you want me to stop?â He breathed, chest rising and falling with heavy pants.
âNo, donât, Iâve wanted this for so long,â it came out more desperate than you planned, but you didnât care, you needed him to know.
âMe too, kid, you have no idea,â he smiled.
Your nose scrunched, pulling back to look at him with narrow eyes, âkid? Really?â
âWell you donât like when I call you baby, soâŚâ
âThat is not what I said,â you laughed, âI said donât say things you donât mean. You can call me whatever you want, as long as you mean itâ
âIn that caseâŚâ he leaned in again, hands on either side of your face as his lips met yours before pulling away to meet your eyes as he said, âhey baby.â
You melted into him, his hands cradling your head the only thing keeping you grounded to the planet. He littered your face and jaw with slow, deliberate kisses, working his way toward your neck as he whispered more sweet pet names into your skin.
âBeautiful,â with a kiss to your jaw, âangel,â with a kiss to your neck, just below your ear, âmy girl,â with a kiss to your collarbone, lingering to suck on the skin right at the base of your neck, marking you lightly.
Your whole body pulled him in tighter, dizzy with the ecstasy of having him like this. Your fingers threaded through his hair, tugging just hard enough to tell him how good he was making you feel. You couldnât resist but push down into his hardness, muscles tense as his lips tickled the sensitive skin around the collar of your shirt.
âRafeâŚâ you sighed out as he continued to suck lip shaped marks into you, his hands kneading your ass, arms strong around you like he alone was the one keeping you tethered to the earth.
He pulled away from you just far enough to look you in the eyes, his pupils blown out. There was a kind of darkness in his eyes, sending excitement, and maybe even a touch of fear, shooting through your body. You wondered what would happen if he dropped the gentleness and really seized control, longing to be the one to send him to that place.
âAre you?â He whispered. Hunger, lust, and some more vulnerable third thing laced the deep tenor of his voice as his eyes searched yours, âare you my girl?â
His brows were furrowed so tight with intensity, you worried he was gonna give himself a headache.Â
You ran your thumb over the scrunched skin on his forehead, smoothing it out, gentle but firm. You continued to run your fingers over his face, both to put him at ease and to buy yourself time, the answer to his question stuck somewhere in your chest, unwilling or unable to make its way to your tongue.
IâŚâ you started, the worry growing back on his face at the sound of your hesitation.
Before you could finish the thought, a loud DING! rang out through the quiet car, making you both jump.
âI thought you said your phone was dead?â You questioned, more edge to your tone than youâd meant, frustration over the interruption seeping into your words.
âSorry,â he mumbled, âI just wanted more time with you.â
âItâs okay,â you said, a bit non-committal in your forgiveness. âWho is it?â
Rafe sighed as he retrieved his phone from the cupholder, reading the most recent message.
âItâs Top,â he answered, âheâs saying we should get back to the house but wonât say why. So dramatic.â
You chuckled softly, relief washing through Rafe at the return of your smile.
âWe should probably go then,â you said, âif for no other reason than Iâm nosy and want to know whatâs going on.â
He nodded slowly, hands reluctantly letting you go âweâll come back to this, though, right?â
You knew he meant more than just the kiss and your intimate position in Carterâs front seat. He meant this; the big âWhat Are We?â
Never in a million years would you have guessed that heâd be the one posing the question, or that youâd have this hard of a time coming up with the answer.

âDustin isnât coming.â
âWhat?â Eddie says, all frantic and jovial movements freezing instantly.
His eyes narrow on Lucas--the bearer of bad news. âWhy?âÂ
âFamily emergency.âÂ
Mike makes a face. âI saw his mom yesterday and she was fine, so is this aâŚ?âÂ
He makes a gesture that is entirely incomprehensible to anyone who isnât Sinclair and his terrifying girlfriend.
(At least, Eddie thinks Max is Lucasâs girlfriend this week. It got a little hard to keep up after the third break-up-make-up marathon, and he frankly, stopped bothering to try.
It helped that she barely spoke--The only time notable being when Eddie had mockingly asked Sinclair if he needed a cheerleader when sheâd first sat in, upon which sheâd asked Eddie if he needed new kneecaps with a look in her eye that said she was serious.)
Wheeler Jr.âs gesture however, made her put her book down.
âYou think heâs having migraines again?â She not so much asked as demanded, which had Mike shrugging.Â
âDunno." Lucas says. "Dustin didnât say.âÂ
âGotta be, if he called Dustin.â Mike mutters, Lucas shuffling his papers about as he begins to set up for Hellfire. He was the last in the room, practically late, which Eddie had planned on harassing him for had he not announced Hendersonâs absence.Â
(Fucking freshmen. They just werenât terrified of Eddie like they used to be.)Â
âRobin must be sick or something, otherwise heâd call her.â Lucas finishes as he finally sits down.Â
âDidnât the Marching Band go on some trip?â Mike turns to address the rest of the table, and gets nods from Jeff and Gareth both.Â
âYeah theyâre marching in some parade in Indianapolis.â Jeff confirms.Â
âSo his last resort was Dustin?â Max is getting that tone in her voice, the one that makes everyone at Hellfire very uncomfortable. âTypical.âÂ
She pushes away from the table, making a show of gathering up her things before rising easily to her feet.
Eddie trades looks with the elder Hellfire members as she makes her exit--the kind that says theyâre all going to be talking about this later.Â
They knew their freshmen had some weird obsession with the former King, of course, but Mayfield too?
What the hell was up with that guy?
At least Eddie thinks, right before things are once again shot to shit, they can go back to playing the game.
He can make it work this early into things, and if Henderson isn'tâ a fan of what heâs about to do to the kidâs character in his absence, well.Â
Maybe he shouldnât be fucking absent then.Â
âSo what, Max, you're gonna go over there and make it worse?â Mike snorts.Â
Fatal mistake.
Eddie almost strangles him for it, if only because it prolongs this entire unnecessary conversation.Â
Max performs a military perfect heel turn, coming straight back for Wheeler Jr., which makes him right about fall out of his seat in panic.Â
âWhat was that, Wheeler?âÂ
âIâm just saying--!âÂ
âWe donât know Steveâs having migraines.â Lucas reiterates, pinching the bridge of his nose. âMaybe itâs something else.âÂ
âDoes Steve get migraines a lot?â Grant asks, because despite all appearances heâs a terrible gossip and gets sucked in far too easily.
Eddie throws a pencil at him for it.Â
âHel-looo, we have a game!?â He thunders, but unfortunately for him, precious Stevie-Weavies headache now has everyoneâs attention.Â
âYeah, though heâs really good at pretending he doesnât.â Lucas answers with a put upon sigh.Â
âThereâs a whole pattern--he ignores it until it gets super bad, then he has to call Robin or Dustin to come get him when he inevitably gets stranded at work or the like, grocery store.âÂ
âWell who else do you think heâd call?â Mike scoffs again. He does a lot of that, when discussing Harrington. âItâs not like his parents are--Ow, Max!âÂ
âClose your mouth before I close it for you.â She hisses and Mike, shockingly, does just that.Â
To Eddie, she says;Â
âYour ass isnât any better, or did you forget I live across from you?âÂ
Eddie--who had an insult primed and ready--promptly shuts his mouth.
(Fucking! Asshole! Freshmen!)Â
âMaybe I should go too.â Lucas says, hedging a look between his girlfriend and his DM.Â
âNo.â She snaps, pointing a finger at him.
âIf you go, then this idiot,â she flicks her finger to Mike, âwill go and then we really will make it worse. Stay here before your bichon frise has a fit about all his sheep abandoning him.â
Then sheâs turning on her heel again, storming out.Â
âWhat the hellâs a bichon frisĂŠ?â Gareth asks in the aftermath, frowning.Â
âItâs a type of ahhhh--â Jeff clearly thinks better of the explanation, eyes sliding to Eddie.
Whoâs scowling.
âI know what a bichon frisĂŠ is, Jeff.â He snaps.Â
âI donât.â Grant loudly complains.Â
Jeff attempts to both calm Eddie and explain while Mike and Lucas spend far too many minutes looking after Max.Â
âEnough!â Eddie howls, temper finally getting the best of him. âAre we playing or do you also need to go sit by the Kingâs bedside?â Â
âThank you,â Mike says, like he wasnât a third of the entire problem. âLetâs play!â
They make it about ten entire minutes before getting knocked off track again.Â
In fairness, not that Eddie would ever admit it--the second meltdown is his own fault.
xXx
Hellfire is Eddieâs domain.Â
Itâs one of the few places where he could relax without getting harassed or hounded, and having his freshmen--his!--abandon him for King Fucking Steve had set him off.Â
So heâd made a few comments about it.
Maybe introduced an NPC who sounded suspiciously similar to Harrington, only to instantly kill him off.Â
Made another couple of nasty comments.Â
Who cares? It worked him through his snit rather nicely, and his boys all knew to leave him be.
Except, apparently, for Lucas.Â
âDude, would you lay off?â The kid finally snaps, pencil slamming down on the table.Â
Which is the most backbone-like thing anyone has ever heard Sinclair say, and he gets far more whistles for it than he should.
Eddie pins him in place with a glare.Â
âWhat was that Sinclair?â He snarls, voice as menacing as he can make it.
(Itâs pretty terrifying, heâs practiced quite a bit with it.)Â
Sinclair flinches, but doesnât back down.Â
âI said lay off. Steve has migraines because of--â He stops, before seeming to come to a decision. âBecause of me. He took a hit for me, and I owe him a life debt for it.âÂ
To Eddie, he says; âYou get what those are, right?âÂ
Mike rolls his eyes. âIt wasnât just for you--â
âThat time with Billy was!â Lucas is quick to snarl. âBut you know what Mike, youâre right. It wasnât just for me. He T-boned a car for all of us!âÂ
Sinclaire is on his feet now, which is the unfortunate moment that Eddie realizes he has once again lost control of the room.Â
A situation he firmly blames on Steve Harrington, because heâs petty.Â
âOr did you forget that part? Thatâs you, me, Will, Nancy and Jonathan right there! Nevermind the tunnel. Or the junkyard!Â
âWe had the junkyard handled--â
Lucas scoffs.Â
âWe absolutely did not.âÂ
âI donât get why youâre all making such a big deal out of this. Heâs the fighter. Thatâs what he does. Thatâs why we brought him to the tunnel.â
âYou recall what happened at Starcourt, right?â Lucas challenges, furious. âYou did see him after, right?âÂ
This, finally, seems to shut Mike up.Â
âShouldnât you be mad at him for that?â He says after a moment, and the rest of Hellfire has completely put aside all actual gaming to watch this play out with a morbid sort of fascination.Â
Eddie allows it, only because heâs trying to breathe the way Wayne taught him to before he loses it entirely and throws both of the idiot kids out of the drama room.Â
âHe pulled your sister into it.â
âHave you met Erica!? You canât pull her into shit!â Lucas spits furiously. âThat wasnât D&D, Mike. It was the Upsi--real life.âÂ
Lucas is quick to correct himself, even in the heat of the moment--as all the kids are, like the entire school hasnât clocked that they have some weird ass secret theyâre terrible at hiding.
âAnd if weâre playing those games, then who pulled him into the tunnels? Who made him come to the junkyard?â
âDustin.â Mike says snidely.Â
âYou donât get to blame Dustin when Steve was the only person around.âÂ
âThere were people around! They just werenât people who--werenât--who couldnât--â
âFinish that sentence.â Lucas demandsÂ
âBe trusted.â Mike spits out, like it hurts him.Â
âExactly.âÂ
âEl went through way more than Steve ever has! El--â
âEl was using her po--doing mage things! And also, she shouldnât have had to go through all this shit either! We canât rely on her to save the day every single time, Mike--and look at how hurt she gets!â
âShe--â
âShe hides it from you, you know. How bad she hurts. Cause she wants to put your feelings first.âÂ
âI--â
âWill does too.â Is Lucasâs parting shot. His backpack is in his hands in a blink, papers and character figure shoved wildly into it, before heâs storming out the door in a poor mimicry of Mayfield.
âHarrington T-Boned a car?â Grant says, in the resounding silence.Â
âThat BMW of his hasnât had a scratch on it--â Jeff says, with an inquisitive tilt to his head.Â
âHe didnât use the Beamer.â Mike interrupts, angry and sulking. âAre we playing or not?â
âIâm gonna say not, given we are down two players.â Eddie tells him through clenched teeth.Â
âIâm going to be so mad if Steve doesnât have a migraine.â Mike grumbles, as he begins packing up his stuff.Â
The rest of Hellfire follow his lead, after one look at Eddieâs face convince the lot of them that itâs best to flee now, before Eddie unleashes all his pent up rage.Â
âNot as mad as Iâll be, Wheeler.â Eddie promises darkly.
And it is a promise--because now, heâs going to follow all his stupid (sans Mike, who isnât in his good graces either but at least stayed) freshmen--and go visit one fallen King.
If Harrington doesnât have a headache now, he will when Eddieâs done with him.
#steves kids are his kids#first and always#well later it becomes Steve and Eddies kids but#pre S4#pre steddie#IDK if I'll write more but this would lead up to a hurt/comfort fic#because Dustin bless him is great at many things but head injuries and the care of them arent one of them#he is in fact#making it worse lmao#So the plan was for Eddie to show up#rip roaring mad#and just wanting to take it out on someone he didnt care about#only to find himself caring after steve#but also#I wanted to focus on Lucas#and Lucas's relationship#he and Steve are bros#steve harrington#eddie munson#hellfire#0o0 fanfics

sin? maybe - father charlie
summary: your priest takes you home and it leads to other things
warning: p in v, oral (m receiving), face fucking, after care, virginity loss.
a/n: chat idk how to feel abt this at all and am too scared to read it back. i swear if i spelling his name wrong the whole time. im deleting this acc off the face of the earth
3:23pm
you were waiting in the rain; unbothered than anything. but there was no denying the tempeture change as the rain continued it was beginning to become unbearable. five minutes turning to ten, ten turning to fifteen. your mom still never came
you walked back into the church drenched from all the rain. your white dress sticking to you, it was still cold in the church nonetheless.
"y/n?" you turn around to your name being called "what are you still doing here?" father charlie asked.
"oh my mom never came to get me" she probably drank to much and passed out somewhere, it was embarrassing to admit but thats the only reason you went to church, so you can be far from her and to be nothing like her.
"you're all wet. how long have you been out there?" you shrug at his question. he tilted his head in observation looking you up and down; his eyes lingering longer on your breast.
that would have normally made you uncomfortable if it were anyone else, but it was father charlie and everyone knew him as the 'hot priest' and they weren't wrong either.
he clears his throat "uh I'll give you a ride home" he gave you a quick smile then grabbed his keys off the alter and on the way out grabbing his umbrella.
he put his hand on your lower back guiding you under the umbrella. he gave you the keys so you can unlock the car "why don't you start the car up while you're at it"
"oh i dunno how" you declined the offer politely but he insisted that you did it anyways so he can hold the umbrella for you.
you open the car door and bend over putting the upper half of your body inside the car and trying to start it up like that instead of actually sitting down. the key wouldn't really turn so you put your knee on the seat getting into the car more. while doing this you could gradually feel your dress raise. something in you just knew he was looking up your dress
you give up "i can't get it to start" he lets out a low chuckle and takes the keys from you and gestures for you to get out the car. you hold the umbrella while he gets in the car to start it up. the engine cuts on and he takes the umbrella from you and walks you to the passanger side and shuts the door behind you.
--
3:34 pm
in the car everything he did and had in his car intrigued you. the way he drives with one hand on the wheel and the other hand rested on his leg. the blankets he had in the backseat, the rosemary cross that was hanging from the rearview mirror
"whats your house adress?" he questioned parking at the stop sign, waiting for your answer.
you shrug again "you don't know where you live?" he probed. you did but it was embarrassing to think about how if your moms boyfriend saw you with a guy he would beat you.
"do you wanna come to my house instead" his question was almost hesitant but i accepted the offer with a smile.
--
4:01 pm
his house was nothing fancy, the aura of the place was comforting. he started a fire in the fireplace and it set a more warm tone in the room.
"you can use my shower. just walk down the hall, it's to your right. I'll bring you a warm towel and clothes"
you walk down the hall and take a turn to the right and find his bathroom. it was definitely not like the bathroom at your house. it was clean the, the scent of father charlie lingered.
you undress then walk over to the shower putting it on hot. a couple minutes into the warm water hitting your body changing your body temperature from cold to warm there was knocks at the door.
"It's unlocked!" i yelled from the shower. and the door opens "i have no actual clothes that you would probably wear to bed but you can wear one of my shirts" ,,don't even worry about it" you reassure
it didn't matter to you, you actually liked the idea of prancing around in that mans shirt. you couldn't forgive yourself for how bad you wanted him to fuck you in the shower.
"well call me if you need anything" he opens the door to leave out. "wait!- wait.. father charlie"
"you can just call me charlie" he corrects. "could you maybe talk to me about your day or anything i don't wanna be alone right now"
you could hear father charlie chuckle at the question "sure. why not"
he began talking about his day while i cleaned myself off. he went into detail about how he made his breakfast and how precise everything had to be. meanwhile i just couldn't get the thought of him talking me through sex.
"you're doing so well"
"how does that feel"
"you need me to slow down" the thought didn't stop it felt so wrong but you needed him. you were giving him hums to let him know you were still listening.
you turn the water off "can you hand me my towel" your hand reaches out of the curtain and you can feel the towel being placed in your hand "thank you"
"can i-" he was cut off by you walking out the shower with just your towel on. he cleared his throat "I'm gonna go" he reached for the door but you grabbed his arm and stopped him.
"will you stop it" he snaps. both his hands grab your arm "stop! im trying so hard not to sin but for fucks sake you're making it nearly impossible"his words comes flying out faster than you could process
"oh.." you mumbled. "y'know we can do something about your little problem" you look down at the buldge in his pants.
he wasnt wearing his vestmant anymore he was just in a black button up with some black formal pants making it more noticeable.
"fucking hell" he grumbled, rolling his eyes. "such a slut. i thought you would have been good. looked so pure" he spat almost like it wasn an insult. "guess not"
"have you ever touched youreslf?" the question wasnt one you would like to answer cause you always felt shame afterwards but nodded anyways avoiding eyes contact; not proud of your doings.
"of course you do" he breathed out "on your knees" ,,what?" you question unsure if you heard him right
"baby you have been so sweet to me so far and I'd hate it if i have to repeat myself"
you drop to your knees and he unbuckles his belt not breaking eye contact with you once. father charlie pulls his pants down and his underwear.
you grab his dick and put it in your mouth. hallowing your cheeks out "look at you taking me so well" he tangles his hand in your hair, grabbing ahold of it and pushing your head forward causing you to gag; you could feel him touching the back of your throat.
"lord please forgive me" he whispered so low it's a suprise you even heard the words come out his mouth
at this point he was just fucking your face, he was watching as his cock disappeared into your mouth. after a while your eyes began to water.
he pulls you away from him "stand up" ,,did i do something wrong?" you ask, letting your towel drop, standing to your feet. wanting to fix any mistake you made along the way. "no sweetheart, you did just fine i just wanna be inside you instead"
he turns you over but you weren't as thrilled about this as he probably was. you were a virgin and too scared to tell him.
he bends you over the counter and you grab ahold of it for support. he lines himself up with you and pushes in
"so fucking tight" he groaned. "wait-" you hit the counter top with your hand "please just wait" you whine
he stops what he's doing and waits for your signal to go "you can move.." my words come out sounding almost strangled.
he pushed in and out of you and for a second you can hear his breath hitch "are you on your period?"
"what!? no" you look behind you and see his lips slowly curl into a smirk "you're a virgin aren't you?" ,,mhm" you nod "even better" he gloated
you could feel his dick hit a spot that made your toes curl. the burning sensation goes away with each rut. you let a few whimpers slip and a grunt with every thrust; your body jolting forward.
he gripped your hips tightly to allow himself to pound into you. you could have sworn you felt his tip hit your cervix.
the sounds of skin slapping against eachother flooded the bathroom "you're such a slut. letting your priest fuck you over a bathroom counter"
he pulled your hair back putting you into a deeper arch, to hit your sweet spot. a guttural moan leaves your lips "oh fuck" you moan.
father charlies hand goes down to your clit rubbing firm circles, sharp uneven breaths pulled through you as you could feel your orgasm approching.
with no warning his warm seed coats your insides, as he rides out his high. his fingers continues to rub in circular motion which makes you finish next; unfolding right there.
you hold his hand to stop him. "im done i can't take anymore" you whisper.
"im sure" he pulls out letting a hiss escape, then walks over to the shower and letting the water run again. the both of you get in and shower together.
he got done before you and while you were still getting clean he made you a snack.
--
5:59 pm
you two were laid in bed. your head resting on father charlies chest while he traces light shapes on your skin.
"what do i tell my mom" you ask. "whatever you want sweet girl" he kissed your head. what were you gonna tell your mom, you were with another man in his shirt. and overall he's the priest of the church you go to.

Ľ CHAPTER FIVE: DON'T HATE THE PLAYERS
violet; 5,460 words; fluff, suggestive content, drama, hockey!vi, figure skater!reader, smau-intermissions, miscommunication, fake dating, lesbian situationships rly hit diff, toxic ex!cait, simp!vi, rival!sevika, inappropriate use of locker rooms, vi is down so horrifically bad its kind of sad tbh
summary: in which instagrams are posted, texts are sent, hockey games are played, and you try your best to make it back in time to gie vi her present.
a/n: a lot of things happen here. LOL but i promise they're not all bad! ALSO. the insta post picture IS NOT PERFECT but it was the best i could do. and i didn't have time to commission an artist to draw the exact image that i wanted :( but i hope it at least gives the vibe of the post. and... it starts getting frisky here so... yall have been warned!

âââ â
Ľ "OH SHIT, she said that?â
Vi grunts, rolling her eyes as she drops the deadlift bar with a loud thunk, flicking her belt off with her thumb.
âYeah. I told her to fuck off.â
âAtta girl!â Jayce says, thumping her on the shoulder. Vi casts him a disgusted look.
âIf you value your future offspring, Talis, never call me that again.â
Jayce laughs, reaching down to help Vi put the weights back onto the rack.
âI honestly thought it was gonna take much longer for you to, yâknow ââ
Vi pauses before straightening to pin him with a look.
âWhat? You thought Iâd super hung up on her or something?â
Jayce shrugs, âWell, yeah. You seemed pretty deep in it when you two were together soâŚâ
Vi sighs, carding a hand through her sweat-slicked hair.
âI mean, I was, but⌠I dunno⌠seeing her with that new girlfriend of hers⌠and just⌠her reaching out to try and â what⌠sabotage myâŚâ Vi bites back the word ârelationshipâ so she just makes a vague sort of gesture and continues, âreally kinda put things into perspective for me.â
Jayce hums thoughtfully, âYeah, but that Nolen girlâs no joke either. Her whole familyâs been in the military â her dadâs some sort of war hero, and her momâs the daughter of a politician, I think.â
Vi casts him a sidelong glance before scoffing, âWow. Mel really did her research, huh?â
At this, Jayce jerks up, sputtering, âWell â she just â you know â her familyâs also â I ââ
Vi laughs, waving him off, âWhatever dude⌠but I already knew all that â why dâyou think Caitlyn even ditched me in the first place?â
Jayce frowns, âWasnât it⌠because her mom didnât approve of you or something like that?â
âYep. We had one dinner together, and her mother made it very clear that she didnât think someone of âmy elkâ was worthy of being with her daughter. Apparently, having an adoptive father who owns a local watering hole and coaches college hockey isnât the exact pedigree sheâs looking for.â
Jayce lets out a low whistle.
Vi grabs a dumbbell for bicep curls.
âAnd⌠it seems like Caitlyn really look her motherâs words to heart. Cause a few weeks later⌠well, you know the rest.â
Jayce sighs, âThatâs⌠unfortunate. But hey, look on the bright side. Without Caitâs mom, you wouldâve never had the chance to date an Olympic athlete, right?â
Viâs mouth twists into a half-grimace as she puffs out a breath and flexes her arm up, her eyes focused on her form in the mirror.
âYeah well â not sure what exactly we are right now so⌠who knows.â
Jayce folds his arms, âGive her time. I havenât known her as long as Mel has but sheâs still a really good friend andâŚâ Jayce allows himself a tiny, slanted grin as Vi pushes through her reps, âMel wasnât lying when she told you that weâve never seen her like this with anyone else before.â
Vi finishes her first set with a loud exhale, glancing up at him.
âDonât go getting my hopes up like that, pretty boy,â but sheâs smiling when Jayce bends down to hand her a bottle of Gatorade, âhasnât anyone told you itâs not good manners to toy with a girlâs feelings?â she pitches her voice up at the end, wiggling her fingers through the air even as Jayce rolls his eyes.
A few minutes later, Jayce frowns as he turns back to Vi.
âYouâve blocked her number, right?â
Vi huffs, still counting beneath her breath, ââ twenty-two, twenty-three â who? What? â Twenty-four ââ
âCaitlynâs.â
Vi grunts, straining through a few more reps before stopping to glance up at Jayce.
âNo. Why? Should I?â
Jayce licks his lips, frowning slightly.
âYeah. Might be a good idea.â
Vi shrugs, âYeah. Iâll do it later.â
Jayce nods, âGood. Alright â abs, lets go.â
Youâre antsy all the way to the airport, checking your phone every four seconds, your knee bouncing even as the cab driver pulls up into the terminal and opens the trunk to grab your bag with a smile.
You bolt through the doors, thanking the heavens that the TSA Pre line is nearly empty.
Just as soon as you get through security, Mel calls.
âHave you got it?â you ask, without even saying hello.
Mel sigh, âYes, yes, but it wonât do much good if youâre not here to give it to her ââ
âI know! I know â Iâm at the airport, and just got through security. Are you and Jayce ââ
âIâll come pick you up at the airport â thank god itâs only 16 minutes away from campus.â
âAnd youâre sure weâll still make it on time for the game?â
âSo long as your flight doesnât get delayed ââ
âIt wonât.â
Mel laughs, the sound soft as you speed-walk your way through the terminal, slumping down next to your designated one with a long breath.
âAlright then, darling. Iâll see you in a few hours,â Mel says.
You make a loud kissing noise into the speaker and hang up, your fingers automatically flicking through the open windows till you come to yours and Viâs text history.
You grin down at it stupidly for a few more seconds before jolting out of your seat as one of the gate agents comes to shake your hand and help you board first. As you sink into the wide, business-class seat, you close your eyes, taking a few deep breaths. Your fingers fiddle with a thin gold chain around your neck and you bite back another grin.
You tug out the small teardrop locket dangling from the chain and flick open the clasp. Inside is nestled a single violet flower, pressed and perfect, preserved behind a thin pane of shimmering glass.
Vi makes a round of the rink, scanning the crowd with furrowed brows.
Nope. Nope. NopeâŚ
She swears silently to herself, rolling her shoulders as the crowd roars.
You promised youâd be here tonight.
âAnd tonight, weâve got our seasonâs top two favorites for the NCAAâs Frozen Four Championship â the Piltover Enforcers, and the Zaunite Barons!â
Vi grins as the stadium positively shakes with applause. Itâs always nice playing on home-ice. Across the rink, she can see the huge, lumbering shapes of the Barons, and her jaw clenches as she catches Sevikaâs eye.
Theyâd been something like childhood friends once upon a time. But after a falling out of meteoric proportions, theyâd settled somewhere between grudging acquaintances and mortal enemies. Where they land on the scale on any particular day typically depends on the weather, the orbital tide height, and whether or not Mercury is currently in retrograde.
Though judging by the smirk thatâs visible from beneath Sevikaâs helmet, Vi thinks itâs nearing the mortal enemies end of the spectrum today.
All the players line up for the face off.
Vi bites down on her mouth guard and smacks her stick against the ice. Sevika skates up to her, bending down so close their helmets clack.
And for a brief, interminable second, Vi thinks Sevikaâs going to stay quiet. But the moment passes and Sevika chuckles, the sound low and hoarse and utterly derisive. It sets Viâs teeth on edge even before the first word leaves her mouth.
âHeard Americaâs snowflake-sweetheartâs got you wrapped around her little finger.â
âTch. Whatâs it to you?â Viâs eyes flash up.
Sevikaâs smirk has morphed into a full blown grin, sharp as freshly turned blades.
She shrugs, keeping her voice low as the official says something or other to both the teams.
âWell⌠just a lotta people buzzinâ online about her perfect skate at her competition this past weekend and Iâm just thinkinâ⌠man⌠you must not be fuckinâ her right ââ
âYou ââ Vi nearly jerks up, but Sevika presses in just a bit tighter and Vi grounds her teeth down over the mouth guard.
âCause if you lemme **take her for a spin, you can bet your scrawny ass that she wonât even be able to stand up straight, let alone skate clean.â
The puck hits the ice as if in slow motion; Vi feels a white-hot anger mixed with something very much like hurt surging up the length of her spine as she watches Sevikaâs stick make contact with the puck first. But she doesnât care â she slams her body forward and feels her shoulder check into Sevikaâs chest as they both go sprawling across the ice and the puck goes wide.
They scramble up and take off after the puck, now in Zaunite possession, Sevikaâs shoulder ramming reflectively into Viâs as they jostle down the length of the rink.
Vi cracks her shoulder back into Sevika and the momentary gap is all she needs to break away, circling wide behind the goal. Someone shouts Reverse! and Vi feels more than sees the tiny black puck make contact with her stick. Her body moves on instinct, and sheâs halfway down the rink before the others catch up to her.
She allows herself a single, tight-lipped grin before someone slams into her back with the force of a speeding firetruck. The world spins, but a second later, Vi hears the unmistakable sounds of Sevikaâs heaving breaths.
âHa. Arenât you glad your little girlfriend isnât here to see you eat shit?â
Vi flips around and before she knows it, sheâs swinging her left arm into Sevikaâs helmet, knocking it askew.
âVi!â
Viâs whole body seizes at the sound of your voice, and she looks up wildly, but she pays for it a moment later as Sevikaâs fist connects with her jaw and her head snaps back. She brings her elbow down against Sevikaâs extended arm, her free hand grappling to keep Sevikaâs head shoved against the ice.
A whistle blows and they shove apart, shaking their heads and spitting blood. Vi tastes iron on her tongue and winces as she rotates her jaw. Thereâll be a nasty bruise, but itâs not dislocated, and Viâs suffered much worse at Sevikaâs hands.
Half a foot from her, Sevika is shaking out her arm, looking murderous as the official comes up to point them towards the penalty box.
Vi looks around, and halfway across the rink, she sees you, your eyes wide, your hands pressed over your mouth, Mel and Jayce sitting next to you, both looking worried. But youâve got dark streaks painted on your cheeks, and it takes her a second to recognize the large âVIâ written there â her number, her name.
The world melts around her as she meets your eyes, and you look so worried that she almost laughs. This is nothing, she wants to say, you ainât seen nothing yet, princess.
But the second is short lived as the official skates over and jerks his head towards the penalty box. She sighs, begrudgingly skating over and settling herself as far away from Sevika as humanly possible as the clock starts on their five minutes.
When allâs said and done, the game is a good one â with the final score of 3-2 in Piltoverâ s favor. Sevika gets another penalty, but Vi manages to keep her cool. And by the end, everyoneâs sweaty and tired, but riding high, and Vi canât help the way she once more scans the cheering crowd for your face.
But, youâre not there. The seat next to Jayce and Mel is empty, and Vi canât help the clawing, hollowing sensation that burrows up her chest from the base of her stomach.
âDonât look so disappointed,â Margot teases, bumping Vi as they all clamber off the ice.
Vi narrows her eyes, âWhatâdyou mean?â
Margot only grins, shooting Vi a wink before following the rest of the team towards the lockers.
Her phone buzzes and Vi glances down, only to see a single line of text from you:
come to the figure skating lockers. iâve got a present for you.
Electricity zings up Viâs limbs as she pivots hard left and makes her way down the heavily padded hallway towards the figure skating lockers, tugging off her gear as she goes. By the time she gets there, sheâs managed to get most of her upper pads off, shucking them outside the door, leaving her in her loose jersey and pants.
She pushes through the thick metal door into the figure skating lockers. Theyâre smaller, brighter, and generally cleaner than the hockey team lockers. Viâs never thought herself a stickler for things like nicer locker rooms but stepping in, she canât help the way that her eyebrows shoot up.
âWhoa.â
âTheyâre not all this nice.â
Vi whips her head around so fast she almost gets a crick in her neck at the sound of your voice. And there â standing next to the far row of pure white lockers, with your hands behind your back and her number (her name still painted on your cheek), you.
âYeah?â she asks, even as she drops her helmet on the thickly padded floor and shuffles forward in her skates. She takes her time looking you over â and objectively, she knows itâs only been a few days since sheâd last seen you, but it feels like forever, the way time stretches endless when youâre a little kid on the playground and eternity is just another thing you can take for granted.
You purse your lips around a shy grin and Vi almost groans as she notices the bright pink ribbon tied around your neck like a choker. Youâre wearing the little black dress that youâd worn to that sorority party, the one thatâs been the subject of one too many of her dirty daydreams â her varsity jacket slung around your shoulders.
âSweet god, princess⌠is this the present you have for me? Please tell me it is ââ
You let out a soft puff of exasperated laughter.
âNo! I mean ââ your eyes cut away as you shift your weight from one foot to another, falling back half a step as Vi takes a few steps closer. âI-if you want it to be â this can be â uhm â an additional present ââ
âMm⌠I donât think I want any other present if Iâve got this one ââ Vi says, inwardly thanking the heavens that sheâd kept her skates on as they give her a few more inches as she corners you against a row of snow-white lockers, so bright theyâre almost blinding.
âI â well thatâs ââ
âMm⌠cat got your tongue, princess?â Vi asks, reaching up to tug your chin back towards her as you try to glance away.
You suck in a short breath, your lashes fluttering as you meet her gaze with yours â dark to light, amber and ice.
Thereâs adrenaline coursing through her system, and Vi knows sheâs still riding high off the win, off the knowledge that youâre here, and that youâre here for her. She looks you over with reverent eyes, her gaze lingering on the dark paint now slightly smeared across your cheeks in a large âVIâ.
âI⌠I got this for you a while backâŚâ you say, pressing something into her chest. Vi pauses, glancing down to see a small black box wrapped in a length of bright pink ribbon the exact same make and color as the one around your neck.
Vi falls back a step to take the box in her hands, turning it over.
âWhat is it?â
You shrug, a tiny, bird-like movement. Sweet and almost daring.
Vi grins as she traces a finger along a single ear of the perfectly tied bow.
âCan I?â she asks.
You nod, chewing on your bottom lip.
Vi tugs on the ribbon and it comes loose with a whisper. She opens the box to reveal a simple, teardrop locket set on a golden chain. She picks it up, letting the locket dangle from her fingers.
âGo on, open it,â you prompt, looking both bashful and eager. Vi gives you one more glance before fumbling open the locket to reveal a single snowflake, carved into the thick glass set into the middle of the locket.
âOh.â Vi breathes, her voice nothing but a whisper. She stare at the locket, at the simplicity and delicacy of it. And then, she looks back up at you.
âItâs â Mel and Jayce helped me pick it â I didnât know if you even wore stuff like this but ââ
âIâll wear it,â Vi says, letting the pendant drop into the palm of her opened hand. She offers it to you with a lopsided grin. âCan you help me put it on?â
You nod, a bit breathless, even as you take the locket from her and undo the clasp with trembling fingers. Vi grins as she leans in to let you fasten the chain around her neck, reveling in the tiny kiss of cold metal against her sweaty skin as she pulls back.
âSo? Howâs it look?â she asks.
You stare at the locket, and then up at her, and she swears she can see your eyes go molten.
âIt looks⌠good.â
âGood,â Vi whispers, reaching up to finger at the tiny pink bow still tied around your neck. You suck in a breath, going still against her as she ghosts her breath along the long column of your neck. And she thinks she can almost hear the sound of your heart pounding against your ribcage by the way your pulse flutters in your neck â she sure as hell can feel her own traitorous heart thundering away in her chest as she glances from the bow around your neck up to you and back down again.
âCan I?â she asks again, though this time, her voice is gentle, imploring, something like a plea as opposed to question.
She revels in the way your pulse flutters beneath the bright pink of the satin.
âY-yeah ââ you say, your own voice a harsh scrape of sound over a burgeoning need that Vi can almost taste on her tongue. But, she wants to take her time with you, she thinks, so she trails her fingers up to your neck and teases at the rabbit ears of the butterfly bow before tugging one end loose. And just like before, the ribbon gives way much too easily, and something gold shimmers as it drops from beneath the pink satin.
She stares.
Itâs a gold chain identical to the one around her neck, with a teardrop pendant strung from it that mirrors her own.
This time, when she glances up, her eyes are wide, almost disbelieving.
Your throat bobs as you clench your fingers at your sides, resisting the urge to lift your hands and help her.
âWhatâŚâ her voice trails off, disbelieving.
You lick your lips. âGo on â open it.â
Vi nearly fumbles the locket twice before she gets it open, and her short intake of breath is the only sign you get that sheâs seen whatâs inside. You hold your own breath, watching her face as it flickers through a film-frame series of emotions.
âIs that ââ her voice is hoarse; she clears her throat, running a thumb over the glass.
âYeah,â you say, reaching up to take the open pendant from her, glancing down at it yourself, heat pricking into your cheeks as your eyes settle on the pressed violet.
Sheâs kissing you before either of you can say another word, and the force of it nearly slams your head back into the lockers but Viâs hand is somehow there to cushion you, her fingers digging into your hair as you gasp open for her wanting mouth. Itâs not a sweet kiss and thereâs nothing gentle in the sting of her nails raking against your scalp as she presses you close, and then closer.
Itâs a clash of teeth and tongue, skin and sound â your tiny, surprised squeak eclipsed by the low moan that reverberates from her chest to yours as she licks into the hot cavern of your mouth and feels you soften against her â sweet as sun-warmed honey.
âF-fuck princess ââ Vi hisses, pulling back with a panting breath as you let your head fall back, gasping for air even as she yanks you towards her till both of you are toppling onto one of the long benches, your legs falling open to straddle her thighs, her hands poised over the round of your hips.
You look down at her, running your thumbs along her cheeks eyes flickering over her face â and the admiration caught behind the fractured glass of your eyes is so obvious that Vi almost turns away, embarrassed. Instead, she leans up to nose into the triangle of your threading pulse, delighting in the shiver that chases down the shape of you, in the involuntary way your thighs squeeze on either side of hers.
She grins, inching her fingers beneath the hem of your little black dress, groaning as she finds the winged hollows of your hipbones and realizes, half a breath later, that youâre not wearing any panties.
âHoly shit â w-were you like this the whole game?â she asks, her eyes going wide with awe.
You bite your lips, cocking your head to one side as you reach up to brush away a strand of hair from her forehead.
âNoâŚâ you say, but your voice trails off and you glance towards the side. She follows your gaze to the left, only to find your bookbag sagging against one of the far lockers. A smirk twists her lips as her eyes slingshot back to you.
âOh wow⌠soâŚâ she drawls, trailing her fingers ever so slowly up the bare skin of your hips, hitching the hem of your tight black dress further and further up till itâs barely covering what she now knows is your bare cunt.
âYou came in here and took them off⌠just for me?â she bats her lashes at you, her skylight eyes going dark and liquid as she watches you fidget above her. Your tongue swipes across your bottom lip and Vi has to physically bite back a moan.
âMaybe I did â what of it?â
Viâs smirk stretches as she reaches up to tug your face down towards hers, so close you can taste her breath dissolving on your tongue like sugar into tea.
âPrincessâŚâ she says, and her voice is so thick with desire it mightâve been spread there with a butter knife, âI thought⌠you wanted to take things slow.â Her fingers have successfully rucked your dress up high enough for it to gather at your waist, though she keeps her eyes on yours and makes no move to take advantage of the fact that youâre now entirely naked from the waist down.
You shrug up a single shoulder.
âRight⌠but I also remember telling you that Iâm not the best with impulsivityâŚâ
Vi laughs, the sound bright and honest. You giggle, pursing your lips, your cheeks tinted such a darling shade of crimson that Vi doubts rosy-fingered dawn wouldâve had the power to eclipse it.
âGood,â she says, reaching up to cup your face with both her hands, bringing you down to tease her lips over yours, her words soft and indulgent, âcause honestly, Iâve never been the best with that either.â
Sheâs about to kiss you again, content to lose herself in the intoxicating drag of your lips on hers, but a text message alarm blips from her pants pocket and it jars the both of you from your desire-induced trance.
You blink, a slight frown creasing your forehead as she reaches into her hockey pants and digs out her phone. You sit back slightly as Vi clicks on her screen to see a slew of notifications dating back till god knows when, but the latest is sent from a few seconds ago and only reads:
New iMessage from cupcake đ§
âWhat the ââ Vi frowns.
But a second later, youâre pushing off her lap, and Vi catches a glint of the hurt in your eyes before youâre tugging down your dress and wrapping your arms around yourself.
âThatâs Caitlyn, right?â you ask, your voice tenuous.
And for a second, Vi seriously considers lying to you, telling you that itâs someone else â that itâs Powder or even one of the girls from the hockey team, but she sees the fractured look in your eyes and knows that she canât.
âY-yeah â it is but ââ
You suck in a deep breath, your fingers twisting in front of you even as Vi pushes up from the bench to try and reach for you. You jerk away, your back hitting the lockers with a loud clang that setâs Viâs teeth on edge, even as she clenches her fist and drops her arm.
âNo, itâs â itâs fine,â you say, making your swift way to your bag and snatching it up, digging around for your phone before shouldering the straps and rounding the benches again. And maybe itâs the sheer desperation curling up her chest, or the fact that the name had just come up on her screen but when she opens her mouth again, Vi says the worst possible combination of words â
âWait, cupcake ââ
You physically flinch at the pet name and Vi squeezes her eyes shut with sigh. Fuck.
When she opens her eyes again, youâre by the locker room door, your hand poised on the handle. You shoot her a single, broken backwards glance before pulling it open and slipping away.
Vi stands there, held still by the oppressive silence and the bleached-white metal all around her. Sheâs frozen for a single second longer before she swings her fist into the row of lockers next to her and pain ricochets up her arm from her knuckles, and her fingers pull away, already bruised.
âFuck!â
Your fingers are shaking so badly it takes you three tries before you manage to punch the call button on Melâs speed dial. She picks up after a single ring.
âHey there, darling â well that was quick â weâre all heading to the after party if you ââ
âMel â c-can you come and p-pick me up?â
Mel goes quiet, and then â
âDarling? Whatâs wrong? Whatâs happened?â
âN-Nothing I just â can you come pick me up?â you hiccup halfway through your sentence, wiping at the fat, traitorous tears welling up in the corners of your eyes.
Distantly, you can hear Mel saying something and Jayceâs voice answering back. A moment later, sheâs back on the line.
âIâll come get you, but you have to tell me whatâs wrong. Whyâre you crying? Did Vi do something?â
âNo â itâs â itâs nothing â I just d-donât feel very good ââ
Mel sighs, âAlright then, stay where you are and Iâll come get you. Iâll be right there, okay?â
âYeah â t-thanks Mel.â
You hang up the phone and dart into the nearly abandoned parking lot, the crowds have long since dispersed, leaving you thankfully alone. You slump against the outer wall of the rink and suck in a deep, shuddering breath, reaching up to rub at your eyes with an angry palm. You cast your eyes up at the ruefully clear autumn night, the moon hanging fat and low, the stars twinkling with their cold, far-off light.
Approximately five minutes later, Mel pulls into the parking lot, mercifully alone, rolling down the windows as you rush forward and let yourself into the passengerâs side of the car, sinking into the seat with a bitten-off sob.
âOh my darling⌠what happened?â Mel reaches over to give your hand a squeeze.
You bite your lips, blinking hard at the dark tarp roof of her convertible, clutching at your bag.
âSh-she got a text from âcupcakeâ.â
Mel stares at you for a solid three seconds before slumping back into her seat and reaching up to pinch her nose bridge.
âIâm going to murder Jayce.â
âI fucked up â I fucked up ââ
âWhoa, whoa â slow down â what the hell happened?â
Vi nearly chucks her skates into the already dented lockers just as Jayce makes an abortive move forward as if to stop her. She drops her skates and buries her face in her hands instead.
âCaitlyn texted me, and â and I never changed her contact from âcupcakeâ ââ
Jayce groans, running a hand through his hair.
âI thought I told you to block her?â
âI forgot, okay?â Vi says, tugging so hard on her own hair that Jayce has to reach out and smack her hands away.
Jayce sighs, leaning back against the lockers, looking over the shape of her. He canât help the tiny grin that hitches his lips or the small puff of helpless laughter.
âWow.â
Vi looks up, âWhat?â
Jayce just shrugs, âNo, itâs just â been a while since Iâve seen you down this bad.â
Vi flips him off, âFuck you, Talis. Yeah, laugh it up â look! Itâs Vi! Piltoverâs favorite train-crash lesbian, fumbling yet another ââ
âYâknow, one of the things about being in a nice, committed, completely non-toxic long-term relationship ââ Jayce says loudly, cutting her off despite the murderous look in Viâs eyes, âis that you learn real quick that youâre always gonna be the one thatâs wrong, and that your dear, darling, perfect girlfriend will always be the one thatâs right.â
He grins, bitten-lipped and open-palmed. Like this, he looks almost like the politician that Vi knows Melâs parents so desperately want him to be.
Vi frowns, âWhatâre you getting at, pretty boy? Spit it the fuck out â I donât have the patience for your bullshit right ââ
âAnd you know what people do when theyâre wrong?â Jayce continues in that chipper, Sunday-morning commercial voice of his. He leans forward even as Vi leans back, the frown digging ever deeper between her brows.
âUh⌠cry and punch things and shoot for a new PR at the gym?â
Jayce snorts, but at least Viâs smiling.
âNo, you fuckinâ fratbro son of a â you apologize.â
Viâs gaze goes flat. âAh. Right. Of course â why didnât I think of ââ
âAnd then â â Jayce continues, raising his voice even higher, a finger pointed up in the air as if he were delivering the valedictorian speech at graduation, before he twists his hand and pokes it into Viâs jersey-clad chest.
âYou do better.â
Viâs breath catches; she blinks up at Jayce before swallowing around the peach pit in her throat.
âR-rightâŚâ
Jayce hikes both of his eyebrows comically high. Vi glances up towards them before puffing out a breath.
âThink you can do that?â Jayce asks, his voice now finally back to normal.
Vi chews on the inside of her cheek before shrugging up a shoulder.
âDunno, but⌠I really wanna try.â
Jayce thumps a fist into her chest.
âGood answer, Lanes. Now. Phone.â He opens his hand palm up.
She blinks at it for a second before sighing and digging her phone from her pocket and dropping it into his hand.
Jayce punches in the password without breaking eye contact, pulling up her text history and turning the phone around to face Vi as he clicks â Contact > Info > Block Caller â on Caitlynâs number.
He hands it back just as the screen goes dark.
Vi stares at the long crack running through the center of her screen before the phone lights up again, this time, with a text from an unknown number.
Jayce barely glances at it before smiling.
âThatâll be Mel.â
Viâs eyebrows knit as she flicks open the screen. There are two texts in quick succession:
iâve gotten her to agree to come to the afterparty.
Do not. Fuck this up.

"Mom," Steve whispered in the inky blackness of his parents' room. "Mom, there's something under my bed."
Patricia Harrington turned over. "Steven, go back to sleep," she murmured.
"I can't." Steve said. "There's a monster."
"No such thing." his mom said, angrier, more awake. "Go to bed now, and if I catch you out of bed again you can forget going to Tommy's this weekend."
Steve nodded and padded back down the hall, pausing at his door then taking a running jump into bed.
The room was silent.
"I know you're here." Steve whispered, making sure all his limbs were tucked safely away under the covers. "You don't scare me."
A couple minutes of quiet, then Steve heard a scraping sound come from under his bed. He squeaked and pulled his blankets up to his nose.
A horrible, raspy laugh came from below him. "I do scare you!" said a voice. "You lied!"
"No-no you don't!" Steve said boldly. He clutched his blanket tighter, then said, "I can't be scared of something I can't see! That's just dumb."
Something dark began to slither across the floor out of the corner of Steve's eye. Oh, I'm gonna regret that, he thought.
The thing began to pull itself up, looming over Steve. It cracked a smile, and sharp white teeth gleamed in the light from his closet.
Steve screamed.
"Shut up!" his dad shouted angrily from downstairs, and Steve clapped a hand over his mouth, eyes flicking between the shadow and the door like he wasn't sure which monster to be more afraid of.
The monster crept toward him, and Steve dug his fingernails into his face, scooting away from the horror. He whimpered, not daring to close his eyes.
Then the monster began to shrink.
It shriveled away, changing color and backing up, until a little boy, about Steve's age, stood in front of him. He had long curly hair and was dressed in a t-shirt that was way too big on him. When he opened his eyes, Steve flinched, because the whites of his eyes simply...weren't there. His eyes were an onyx black.
"Hi," the boy said. "I'm Eddie."
Steve was too stunned to speak, but he did uncover his mouth.
"I'm the monster under your bed!" Eddie said. "I'm supposed to scare you, but, um-" he risked a quick look at the door "-I don't think you need my help for that."
"Why are you supposed to scare me?" Steve asked.
Eddie shrugged. "Dunno. Every kid's got one. It's just how it works. I was made to be your monster, forever!" He sat down on the edge Steve's bed, bumping Steve's shoulder against his. "Weird to be on this side of the bed. No dust bunnies or anything."
Steve giggled, forgetting his fear. "You're fun!"
Eddie grinned at him. "Thank you! None of the other monsters think my jokes are funny."
"So you have to scare me?" Steve asked. "But you're not scary. Not after talking to me."
Eddie paused. "Oh, right. I'm not supposed to talk to you. Um..."
"What if we just say you're scaring me?" Steve asked. "I'll pretend I'm really scared of the monster under my bed, and you pretend you scare me every single night. But really we're hanging out instead of scaring!"
"Ooh, I like that idea!" Eddie struck a dramatic pose. "I'll be the monster under your bed, but I'll be ready to protect you if you need it too!"
Steve stuck out his hand like he saw his dad do for business deals. "Deal?"
Eddie shook it. "Deal."
-
Steve sprinted through the forest, the kids hot on his heels. "There!" he shouted. "Everyone in!"
The kids bolted to the abandoned cabin, and Steve slammed the door shut. "Is there a bed in here?" he called. "A couch? A fridge?"
"Bed's in here!" Will yelled, and Steve followed his voice to the cluttered bedroom, complete with partially-caved-in bedframe. He gingerly took a seat on the mattress, cringing when it crackled. He did not need to know what was on this.
"Eddie?" he called, tapping on the flaky painted wood.
The shitheads crowded in, and Mike murmured. "What the fuck is he doing?"
Steve ignored him. "Eddie, come on, I need your help."
Something tall, dark, and lanky slid out from under the bed, and all the kids jumped back in fright, raising their various weapons. Steve leapt to get in front of them, raising his hands as a shield. "Chill! Calm down, this is Eddie!"
Eddie shrank into his human form, draping himself over Steve. "You had to summon me to the nastiest bed in Indiana? Really, Steve?"
Steve shrugged. "This was the closest one. We need your help, Eds."
"We?" He focused on the Party. "Well, these must be the infamous buttheads." Eddie slid into the shadows and reappeared behind the Party, inspecting them. "Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Will, El, Max, right?" he said, pointing at each one as he said their names.
"What the fuck are you?" Dustin asked.
Suddenly Eddie was under Steve's arm, wrapping a hand around his waist. "I'm Steve's monster under the bed." he said. "I'm just... friendlier with Steve than most of the monsters I work with."
Steve rolled his eyes. "You can tell him you're my boyfriend, they know I'm bi." He kissed Eddie on the cheek.
The kids all broke into gasps, except for Max, who fake gagged. "Don't be gross!" she yelled. "Demogorgon outside, remember?"
"Ah, right." Steve said. "Eds, can you-"
"On it." Eddie kissed Steve. "I'll be back."
The kids watched Eddie melt into shadows, then wheeled on Steve. "Steven Don't-Know-Your-Middle-Name Harrington," Dustin said. "You have a lot of explaining to do."

I think it would be hilarious if we went back to the first word prompt expect Hal gets called either 'mama' or 'ma'
Somehow we heard the word somewhere or something else and just.. Yeah sure this guy has the face of a Ma, whatever that is anyways!
I gotta ask. What's it like being the funniest person alive, 'Nony?
"Who did it?"
The Waynes all exchange curious glances with each other, shrugging intermittently and muttering in confusion.
"Did what, Glowstick?" Jason finally asks, kicking his feet up on the ottoman and using a switchblade to clean any dirt under his nails. "Cause if the answer is 'switched out your shampoo for baby pink hair dye,' then I dunno."
"THAT WAS YOU? No, no â that's not what I was talking about." Hal scowls at him, but it loses some of its effect because you're cooing happily in his arms, fiddling with a green puzzle block he constructed. He gestures to you with his free hand. "I mean this!!"
Dick bites his lip and snorts. Damian rolls his eyes. Jason lifts a brow. Tim bites the bullet.
"Who did what? Made the baby? Their mom, I imagine."
"Mmmum...mama," you coo, lighting up. You look at Hal like he hung the moon and stars in the sky as you chant it. "Mama! Ma!"
"This," Hal hisses, cheeks bright red. "Who told them I was mama?"
No one fesses up. Hal glares at each one of them for several seconds, checking for tells or signs of guilt. He finally turns to Bruce, who is absolutely not looking at him.
"Oh my god." Hal says.
"...hmm?" Bruce mutters, admiring the carpet like it's the most fascinating thing on the planet. "Something wrong?"
"You conditioned the baby to call me mama."
"...no? I didn't?"
"You're a bad fucking liar, Bruce."
"Fucking!" You chirp in delight. Jason bursts out laughing. Hal covers his face.
"Why did you do that!?" Damian demands. "The infant is susceptible to any words you choose to use as their language center develops, now they're going to â"
"â is incredible," Tim says to himself in the sudden cacophony. "Best family meeting ever."
"Baby bat's gonna put sailors to shame," Dick teases.
Bruce is still staring at the carpet.
"I'm Daddy," he eventually says, "you can't also be Daddy. It'll confuse them."
"I couldn't be papa?? Or Pops? Or Baba? You just jumped straight to mom??"
"Mama," you declare, beaming.
Bruce shrugs. He's trying not to smile.

You texted...
Y/N and Lando are going through a rough patch in their relationship. Not really on speaking terms. This bad streak ends when there is a massive spider in her bathroom.
angst, one shot
The moment she spotted that creature sent from hell, everything else went out of the window. The dinner in the oven, the fact she was planning on doing a late night session in the gym, the fact her hair was still wet from the shower. The fact she and her boyfriend Lando were on "not speaking" terms.
Y/N was absolutely terrified of spiders her whole life and was never able to over come the fear by getting rid of them on her own. Lando was the one who always ever so kindly rescued her, he overtook this role her neighbor, who overtook it from her mom, who Y/N had trained to react immediately when she heard a very specific scream.
Now she was standing in her apartment, alone with nowhere to go, since her job was to stay frozen at one spot and stare at the creature, in case it moved, and not really sure who to call for help. Her best friend was the first option. Normally, it would have been her boyfriend, but something was stopping her from doing that.
"Come on, come on, come on," she whispered as she dialed her best friend living close by. "Pick up, dammit."
Finally, the tone she was praying for. "Hey, girl, what's up?"
No time for chit chat. "You have to come over now, immediately."
Her friend noticed the immediate distress and tuned herself in. "What's wrong?" she replied, sounding as she was ready to dial the police.
"There's a spider situation going on in my apartment."
"Uhm, I see," she said, more relaxed now, but still taking it seriously.
"It's huge, with like hairy legs and shit. You have to come over, now. We have a deal, remember?"
Her friend was equally terrified of mosquitoes, so they agreed that Y/N would deal with those while spider duty fell on the other lady. This has happened many many times before. Usually ended up with a nice girls evening. Ever since Lando appeared in Y/N life however, the emergency calls stopped.
"I thought Lando was around this week?" her friend asked curiously. "Not that I'm trying to get out of this, but I'm sort of like an hour away from you, so..."
Y/N let out a frustrated sigh. "Fucking hell...Yeah, we're not exactly speaking at the moment," she admitted.
"Wow, that's a first!?" her friend said, clearly surprised. "Why?"
"Look, I'd love to chat, but are you coming or not? There's no one else and I'm not calling Lando!"
"Yes, yes, I'm getting in the car, just let me say good bye to my friends here, we're having a picnic," she replied and muted voices of disapproval came from the background.
Y/N felt guilty about doing this, but she'd dropped everything she was oing for her friend many times, answered phone calls in the middle of the night even though she was an early bird. They just had this kind of friendship.
"Drive fast, please," she said, still stubborn and not about to call Lando.
//
Y/N sat there staring at the spider for good ten minuted before her friend called again.
"Ok, I'm in the car, you can talk about Lando now, keep me busy. I'm going to pass over the fact you and your boyfriend are fighting and I have no idea," she said unapologetically.
"Figured you'd be mad about that. Yeah, he's been acting like a bit of a dick..."
"But you're not broken up, right?" her friend asked, slightly worried about her favorite couple.
"No, I don't think so. I hope so," she realized, the spider in the corner becoming lesser of her problems.
"And what seems to be the problem? Did he cheat?"
"No, not that I'm aware," she replied without thinking.
"Did you cheat?" her friend asked, ready to support her in anything.
"Jesus, no. It's um...I dunno, we've just grown a bit distant. Lately it feels like I'm like at number 50 of his priorities list. It's always only racing, Quadrant, promo event this and that."
"That's shitty, yeah. Would you like to be included? I know you hate things like promo events and such."
"I do! But honestly, I miss him so much and frankly I'd like to be more included in his life somehow. Especially now that I have more time in my life."
"Does he know that?"
"No?"
Her friend let out a deep sigh. "Hm. You have to untangle that. It would be stupid to break up over that."
"Yeah, I'd hate that," she said, panic setting in.
"Text him to come. To save you from the spider. It's a nice excuse and good test. To see if he cares."
"I'm scared. What if he does not respond?"
Few moments of dramatic silence. "Well, at least you'd know."
"Yeah. Ok. Sending it." Y/N quickly typed something up, trying not to overthink it.
"What did you text?"
"Can you come over asap? I need help with a spider. It's urgent."
"Nice. Now you'll see what he does."
They stayed on the phone together for good half an hour. Catching up and distracting Y/N from the fact there was no text from Lando coming her way.
//
A doorbell rang.
"You're here already?" Y/N asked her friend, surprised by her ability to drive this fast.
"Nope, still very much far away. Did I hear a bell? Do you think it's him?"
"I dunno. I'll mute you and if it's him I'll hang up, ok?"
"Gotcha."
She opened the door with a heavy heart. What if it was not him?
But it was. Flustered Lando stood there without saying hello. The two shared a pain-filled look, neither of them enjoying this no contact streak they had.
"You came..." she said finally, ending the phone call.
"You texted..." he said dryly and in full macho mode entered her apartment without being let it. "Can you point me where?"
"That corner," she simply pointed, flushed with emotions. Happy that he came to rescue her, sad about his loveless tone and scared of what was to come after. She watched him from afar, as he skillfully took the spider and threw it out of the balcony.
"Don't say anything about him knowing his way back, please," he said, hinting on the countless debates they'd had before about Lando not wanting to kill every spider they'd encounter.
The air suddenly went very heavy. Lando casually headed to the kitchen to get himself a glass of water while trying so hard to make eye contact with her. The last time they spoke was few days prior - and it was not a nice conversation. Lots of built up emotions got out, frustrated speeches made and confusing sentences jumping one after another. Ending with Lando slamming the door on his way out.
She had no clue where to start. "So, how have you been?" she asked, not sure she was ready for his answer. He finally looked at her, and then with an annoyed eye-roll went back into staring out of the window.
Y/N threw her hands up in the air as the familiar feeling from few days ago kicked back in. "Ok fine, sorry I asked. Thank you so much for your help, truly appreciated, but if you hate being around me, just say so that we can-"
"We can what?" he cut her off, not having any of that.
"I don't know, you tell me!...I'm getting lost at trying to read you," she admitted, not even trying to hide anything from him at this point.
"I'm sorry," he said slowly. "I don't think I listened to you," he sighed before continuing, "Or more like did not hear what you were saying."
The validation felt rewarding. But she feared what would come next.
"What I heard at that moment was you not respecting my lack of time and the fact that things I'm involved in are important to me."
She took a breath and planned on interrupting him, which he noticed and tried to stop.
"Let me finish, please. But thinking about it, I figured that's not the case, and you were simply pointing out that I've been putting off spending time with you. Which you're absolutely correct. I figured since we've been going to strong lately, this would be fine. But truth is I hate this distance it created. I feel lost, uneasy and unable to focus," he blabbered something, which felt like he might have even rehearsed on the way to her. "What I'm trying to say is - do you still care enough for us to fix it?"
It felt vulnerable, raw and maybe even uncomfortable to have these kinds of talks. But this is ultimately what cements a relationship.
Feeling like he managed to destroy some of the wall they'd put up, she took few steps towards him.
"Lando, of course I do. It's not a rare event that I imagine our future life together, as a couple and one day potentially as a family. Never had this feeling before in my life. Please, let's figure out a way how to prevent the distance from happening. Things have changed now, the relationship has too. We've been together for almost two years. And my love for you has only grown."
He finally smiled, relieved that they seemed to be on the same page.
"I came right from the tennis court, left everyone behind. Would you like to go there with me? Hang out with the Quadrant squad for a bit and then have a nice dinner somewhere? I just want to spend this evening with you."
"And the night hopefully," she teased, trying to ease the mood.
"Always the night, it was absolutely horrible, knowing you're so close to me, yet having to sleep without you."
She closed the distance between them, embracing him into a hug. They bodies were more than familiar with each and it felt right to be that close. Definitely better than each of them standing in a different corner of the room.
"We still have to talk about this. I don't want our love to slip through by our fingers," she said, letting her anxiety out.
"We will. Tonight, we'll come up with a plan. Can you join me on few races later this month?" he asked, hoping for a positive answer.
"Of course, my love. I have to buy new clothes though, the cameras are savage."
He chuckled, relaxed now that he did not have to worry about having lost her. "Yes, they are."
She later call her friend to thank her for dropping everything and driving to save her, even though it was not needed in the end. Her friend was more than happy that she and Lando seemingly found the way back to each other.
She also admitted that she turned back the moment Y/N sent her text to Lando, knowing that this guy would come running anytime his girlfriend asked for help.

satoru loves yapping [to you]
satoru was always chatty, shoko could definitely attest to that statement, subjected to too many conversations she definitely did not care about.
âisnât it hotter than usual? i swear last year it was colder around this time of year-â he began, continuing to talk as shoko tried to focus instead on healing an injured itadori in front of her.
it seemed that his chatty characteristic only amplified when you were around, his eyes would visibly brighten, practically gleaming when you appeared in his eyesight.
âsweetheart! how are you? staying cold in this heat?â you can help but smile at him, walking straight into his already outstretched arms and squeezing his waist a bit, pressing a soft peck to his cheek before pulling away.
âheat? it feels so good out today!â you sigh happily, waving yellow to shoko and itadori, âit is hotter than last year though Iâll tell you that,â satoru grins at your words, turning to shoko with a flint in his eyes before turning back to you.
âthatâs what I said! global warming is getting too severe-â the two of you walking out hand in hand, the taller man still talking as you listened intently.
satoru never felt the need to be quiet around you, always finding things to talk about no matter the task or the hour.
âand so you would think that since they were doing so bad they would think of making changes right?â you nod along, humming so he knows youâre listening, âbut no! they keep going with same stupid strategy and itâs so frustrating as a fan to see, i just want him to achieve his dreams,â he sighs sadly.
âcan you pass the salt?â you ask, taking it from his much larger hand, thanking him before speaking up again, âwhy does he keep resigning if they always treat him so poorly?â you ask, satoru smiles, heart warming at the fact that you really do pay attention to him.
âheâs always wanted to win with Ferrari- let me take you back to the beginningâ he begins, giving you a summary of charles leclercâs life as you finish cooking dinner.
you could always tell when he got a bit insecure of how talkative he was, but youâd always smile at him, urging him to go on. âand then what? whyâd you stop talking?â youâd say, making him smile widely before quietly starting again.
âIâm listening, angel boy,â you mumble in between dreams, listening to him talk about how orange juice isnât the same as it was when he was growing up and how the new game he downloaded was more complicated than it seems.
it could be nearing 2 in the morning but you wouldnât mind, satoru would be discussing how and why wombats have cube shaped poops and how koalas eat eucalyptus and pandas have half a brain cell they donât bother to use.
âit has no real nutritional value and thatâs why they have to eat so much of it,â he mumbles, eyes drooping as he cuddles closer to you.
âarenât they made to digest meat?â you whisper, head tucked into the crook of his neck, your breath running a chill down his spine.
âthink so, dunnoâ he mumbles back, breathing evening out before heâs fully asleep.
your eyes open slowly as you crane your neck, his pink lips slightly parted as he takes soft breaths, snowy hair pointing every which way.
you canât help but smile at your lover.
âgoodnight pretty boyâ you whisper, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, âmy little yapper,â you chuckle to yourself, already looking forward to what heâd talk about tomorrow.

tags: neighbour!nanami x fem!reader, fluff-ish, crack, reader is in mid 20s and nanami is mid 30s, readers obsessed with nanami w.c: 800
you peek through the blinds in your living room, squinting for a better view of your neighbour. a frown crosses your face as you notice a gathering of children and mothers around his front door, which is beautifully decorated for halloween. you watch as the mothers twirl their hair and giggle in unison, but you still canât see what your neighbour is wearing. you feel like a creep, lurking behind the blinds just to catch a glimpse of the new guy.
your heart races when you finally spot nanami. damn, he looks incredible in his costumeâa vampire. youâve heard whispers about the mysterious man who just moved in, and even the married women have been known to stand outside early in the morning just to greet him.
âdo i seriously have to dress up?â you retreat from the window as you hear your nephew whine while entering the living room. you burst into laughter at the sight of him squeezing into the ghostbusters costume he wore a few years ago- the sleeves barely reach his wrists.
âwell, yes!â you reply, snapping photos of him as he glares with frustration. in one picture, he slightly raises his middle finger, and you gasp, realizing heâs picking up on your habits. oops.
âiâm too old for trick âr treating! i donât even wanna stay here,â he grumbles, his temper flaring as you giggle at the photos and send them to your sister, his mom, just as he threatens to rip off the costume.
âcan you just behave? iâm trying to meet the love of my life,â you say, putting your phone away to prevent him from ruining your plans.
âhe doesnât even know you exist, dummy.â your jaw drops at his bluntness, and he starts pointing at you, laughing like a little brat.
âtch, youâre laughing a bit too much for someone who lost his girlfriend to a stuffed animal,â you retort, laughter spilling from your lips as he shoots you a âreallyâ look.
âat least i was in a relationship! dunno about you, hag,â he fires back, leaving you choking on a laugh. seriously, whoâs teaching this kid all this at twelve years old?
you donât say anything as you pull him toward the front door, making him put on his shoes and grab his trick or treat bag before stepping outside. your gaze is fixed on nanamiâs house, now swarming with kids and mothers.
i know why you mothers are hereâŚ
âow, let go!â your nephew winces, pushing your hand away from his shoulder as you realize youâve been gripping him too tightly. you both end up in a long line in front of his house because these mothers wonât leave! impatience gnaws at you- you just want a chance to see him.
finally, you reach the front of the line, and you scold your nephew to behave before giving him a gentle push toward the door.
âtrick or treat.â he says in an unenthusiastic tone, while you stand behind him, practically buzzing with excitement. nanami steps outside with a fresh batch of candy, smiling at your nephewâs costume. when his hazel eyes shift to yours, your breath hitches.
he definitely wants me.
âyour son is so adorable,â he says.
what?
oh hell no.
âson? n-no, heâs my nephew! he was dying to come to your house,â you stammer, and he chuckles, revealing his fake fangs.
âwhat? you forced meââ your nephew starts, but you quickly cover his mouth to prevent him from ruining everything, sharing a warm chuckle with nanami as you stand awkwardly on his doorstep.
âd-do you have any kids?â you ask, hoping he says no. your heart would shatter if he did.
âahh, no, i donâtâthough i do wish to have a family of my own someday,â he admits, and you nod, intrigued by his almost wistful tone.
âyeaaa, i want a family with youâof my own too!â you blurt out, instantly regretting your words as his smirk widens, and your eyes practically sparkle with embarrassment.
âshe stalks you everyday,â your annoying nephew pipes up, and you feel your face heat up as you wish you could disappear. nanami quirks his brows in surprise, bursting into laughter, while you stand frozen, your eyes twitching. seriously, someone needs to watch for this kid.
âheh, sheâs not the only one,â he replies, and you swear you must be dreaming. nanami quickly grabs something from inside his house, scribbles on a notepad, and attaches it to your nephewâs bag of candy before handing the candy directly to you.
youâre so starstruck you canât move as your nephew tugs on your arm, dragging you away while the interaction feels surreal. you walk past the mothers, who scoff at you, and hear him wish the two of you a happy halloween.
you glance down at the notepad he gave you:
Iâll be waiting for your call, stalker
nanami kento
you gasp, noticing his phone number written beneath it. you just bagged the hottest man alive and these mothers didnât.
âyou two are a buncha freaks,â your nephew comments as he pulls you back toward your house. honestly, you donât careâyouâre just so thrilled that youâre the one he chose.
