the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "đđźđđźâ" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
#yeehaw#1k#5k#10k#posts that got cursed. blasted. im making these tag updates after... 19 hours?#also i have been told it should say speech loss bc nonverbal specifically refers to the permanent state. did not know that!#unfortunately i fear it is so far past containment that even if i edited it now it would do very little. but noted for future reference#edit 2: nvm enough ppl have come to rb it from me directly that i changed the wording a bit. hopefully this makes sense#also. in case anyone is curious. though i doubt anyone who is commenting these things will check the original tags#1) my friend did not do this on purpose in any way. it was not intended to distract me or to hit on me. im a lesbian hes a gay man. cmon now#he felt very bad about it afterwards. i thought it was hilarious but it was very embarrassed and apologetic#2) âwhy didn't he use đŤľđź?â didn't exist yet. âwhy didn't he use đ?â dunno! we'd been using a lot of hand emojis. đđź is an ok sign#like it makes sense. it was just a silly mixup. also No i did not invent đđźđđź as a gesture meaning sex. do you live under a rock#3) nonspeaking episodes are a recurring thing in my life and have been since i was born. this is not a quirky one-time thing#it is a pervasive issue that is very frustrating to both myself and the people i am trying to communicate with. in which trying to speak is#extremely distressing and causes very genuine anguish. this post is not me making light of it it's just a funny thing that happened once#it's no different than if i post about a funny thing that happened in conjunction w a physical disability. it's just me talking abt my life#i don't mind character tags tho. those can be entertaining. i don't know what any of you are talking about#Except the ppl who have said this is pego/ryu or wang/xian. those people i understand and respect#if you use it as a writing prompt that's fine but send it to me. i want to see it#aaaand i think that's it. everyday im tempted to turn off rbs on it. it hasn't even been a week

âWeâve secured the suspected meta.â
âCopy that. Red Hood, do you have eyes on the last of them?â
âNot yet, but Iâm pretty sure sheâs in this apartment.â
Several months ago a group of unpredictable rogues had popped up in Gotham. Nothing unusual for the city, other than they appeared to be a group of teenagers who were both criminals and heroes. Stolen goods of various types ranging from common camping supplies, food, and clothing, to an odd assortment of medical supplies and technology. Assaulted police, other heroes and vigilantes given the slip. And yet there were also many criminals dealt with that hero teams couldnât account for who was responsible. The main lead they had gotten was the suspected meta human. A girl with white hair that could fly, phase through walls, and various other super human feats. She had been the first lead they could latch onto, and from there they had built profiles on the other three. The oldest girl appeared to be in her late teens, another girl just a few years younger, a boy the same age as the second girl, and then the metahuman, younger than all of them. They had been more of a curiosity than a serious threat. Until they had stolen something from the wrong people and painted a target on their heads. Now they were in a cross between a rescue and capture mission as the team only known as The Phantoms were being raided by pissed off crooks.
The three youngest had already been caught by the rest of the team sent by Batman, it was only the eldest girl that remained. And unless Tim could pull off a miracle Jason only had ten minutes to find her before the planted bomb destroyed the building theyâd been hiding in.
With Barbaraâs help he and a few of the others had searched the entire apartment building, checking each room for the remaining Phantom and placing eyes where theyâd been to make sure she didnât give them the slip and run to somewhere theyâd already been. Jason had just slammed through the front door of one more apartment when heâd answered Barbaraâs question, a scattering of food wrappers in a trash pile, a small cook top, sleeping areas, and other items for basic needs betraying recent habitation. It was a good hint that this was where the Phantoms had stationed, especially with the scrabbled together computer workstation setup off to one side.
There were only three other doors in the apartment, and Jason moved to the first one quickly. A closet near the front door. Empty. A bathroom across from the front room. Also empty. Which meant the last room, the bedroom, had to be where she was, if she was there.
Jason flung the door open and promptly caught the crowbar that was swung at his face, accompanied by a near frantic screech from the girl heâd been looking for
âGot her,â Jason announced to the comms, deftly yanking the crowbar out of the girlâs hands and tossing it to the side. âBegin evacuation, Iâll be out in - âŚ.. Shit.â
As Jason spoke to Barbara and the rest of the team he decidedly ignored the girlâs demands for him to get out, having to block a fist thrown his way. Heâd noticed she was obviously distressed, tears marking her dirty cheeks and a fierce glare directed his way. It wasnât unexpected considering she was the last of her team they didnât have in custody; she must have felt any myriad of emotions ranging from despair at failing to fear that they would hurt her. Yet Jason quickly noticed something that made him cuss mid report, and realize the girl's actions werenât out of defiance, but protectiveness.
âThereâs five of them,â Jason reported, finger pressing to his comm and eyes locked onto the new figure that hadnât been part of any of their intel. And for a good reason. The lad was unconscious on a cot, one of the stolen items in the teamâs list, and he didnât look good. If it werenât for the shallow, shuddering breaths from him Jason would have thought he were already dead, his skin ghastly pale other than fever flushed cheeks. âThereâs another boy, heavily injured. Iâm bringing them both out, have someone standing by.â
âDONâT TOUCH HIM!â
Of course the girl heard his report, and renewed her efforts to fight Jason, blocking him from reaching the fifth member. They didnât have time to converse gently though, and so Jason grabbed her arm and yanked her forward. âListen! Iâm not going to hurt you, Iâm trying to rescue you. Thereâs a bomb! We have to get out of the building, and get him to a hospital.â
The girl was smart. Or at least not dumb enough to ignore Jasonâs words completely, for she froze the moment he mentioned the bomb. â...What?â she asked, wide eyes locking onto him, daring him to trick her.
âLook, you guys trying to steal Lazarus water pissed off the wrong people. They planted a bomb, and my team and I are here to rescue you. We can talk about your crime runs later, alright?â Jason explained a little more, really not wanting to have to knock the girl out too just to get the two to a safe area if he could help it.
The way the girlâs eyes opened, a horrified gasp escaping her, told Jason she wasnât a bad person. Or at least reinforced what their actions aside from theft had suggested. That was the reaction of someone who realized theyâd made a mistake, and felt the weight bearing down from the mess that had been caused because of it. She stopped trying to fight Jason now, pulling away and rushing to the 5th memberâs side, grabbing his limp arm and hooking it around her own shoulders to try and lift him up.
âIs he safe to move?â Jason asked, stepping forward to help. Even though the lad looked fairly small, he was still too heavy for the girl judging by how she was struggling to even get him upright. âHis spine isnât hurt? No broken bones?â he asked to clarify when the girl looked at him with a question half voiced.
âNo. Nothing broken, just the-â she confirmed, cutting off when Jason reached forward and effortlessly scooped the frail teen up.
âHold onto my back. Weâre going that way,â Jason directed, ignoring the way she tensed, holding herself back from demanding he not touch her friend, and nodding towards the window.
âWhAT?â the girl sputtered, hands jerking as she internally wrestled with being obedient to him or her own sense of self preservation.
âWeâre out of time. Just grab on,â Jason half snapped, roughly kicking the window to shatter the glass, twisting his frame to shield the lad in his arms as well, just in case. âOne minute,â he added, repeating what Barbara announced in his comms to reinforce his directions.
It was enough. Pursing her lips and giving a soft whimper the girl rushed forward to throw her arms around his shoulders from behind, clinging to him with a death grip. Jason wished he had a better way to carry both of them, but he hadnât been expecting there to be two of them in the first place. So he could only hope the girlâs grip was strong enough to hang on as he shot a zip line towards where the others were gathered. After getting the other end secured to the building they were in, Jason latched the clip on the rope and swung over the fire escape, curling his legs up to make sure the lad he was carrying had plenty of support. He could hear a muffled, drawn out squeak from the girl on his back, but didnât comment.
âWh- Ja- DANNY! LET HIM GO YOU-â the mid teenage girl caught sight of them first, snarling and trashing against her restraints when she saw who Jason had. Cass refused to let her go though, pulling her back to kneeling and considering pushing her down further if necessary. She didnât get to finish her protests though.
âHEADS DOWN!â Dick shouted after Barbara announced a second to detonation, and those who had capes were throwing them over their targets and each other, hunching over to bodily protect them from the cascades of blasts ripping through the apartment building the Phantoms had been stationed in. They were far enough away that they shouldnât get hurt from the collapsing rubble, but there was still the possibility of smaller debris getting thrown at them. So they remained huddled on the ground a safe distance away until the rubble settled, and only when it stopped shifting did they stand again.
âOracle, status on the inbound units?â Dick was the first to speak, the others giving sighs of relief and partially relaxing.
The two middle teenage children had quieted significantly after the explosion, the boy looking at the rubble in shock as he realized they would have been caught in it if it weren't for the group of vigilantes that had captured them. And the girl held a similar period of stunned silence before she started kicking at Cass again. âGet off me! Get your filthy hands off Danny!â
âSam, itâs okay.â The eldest girl spoke with a shaking voice, slipping off Jasonâs back and leaning her head against him in a moment of despair. Cassâs hand froze where it had been about to knock out chop her feisty captive, blinking and looking up instead. So the middle teenâs name was Sam? And the unconscious lad was Danny?
âThe meta is waking up. Should I dose her again?â That was Damian, keeping an eye on the youngest Phantom. She was starting to stir, but the eldest Phantom spoke up before the others could.
âDonât. Please. Theyâve been through enough. Just please bring her over here, Iâll manage her,â the eldest girl directed. Her voice was still shaking, but it had steadied somewhat after Jason had turned slightly while remaining crouched to allow her to sit next to their 5th member, her hand resting on his cheek as she was gathering the breaking pieces of her determination.
Stephanie and Cass only exchanged looks with each other, and also Dick and Tim, before Jason spoke up. âJust bring her over. She might be more docile when sheâs near this one.â
They didnât seem completely convinced, but Stephanie at least complied, moving to crouch on one knee with the youngest girl while Damian hovered nearby with another dose of sedatives.
âYouâre doing the right thing kid. When the cops get here with the paramedics theyâll get Danny taken care of. You donât have to worry,â Jason encouraged the eldest girl, grateful that she was getting her team to behave.
âThey canât take him,â she rejected, catching the rest off guard.
âWhat? Look if itâs about money donât worry, itâll be taken care of,â Jason insisted, hoping it wasnât because of a different possibility he was quickly starting to consider. Heâd thought it was just his imagination, but Danny was unusually cold to the touch. Almost like ice. There was another common reason he knew people avoided hospitals despite being this injured.
The eldest girl shook her head again. âItâs not that itâsâŚ.â she paused, seeming both reluctant to tell them but also not sure how to tell them what was going on. She wasnât even sure what was wrong. But when the youngest teen groaned and started to shift the eldest looked at her and found her answer. âDanny is like Danielle. Doctors canât help them. Theyâre too different.â
Thatâs what Jason thought, but it didnât mean he wanted to hear it, and it earned an understanding but frustrated groan from him and some of the others. âShit. Alright,â Dick took charge of the situation, hissing slightly and reaching to his own comms. âOracle, whereâs the nearest safe house? The 5th member is another potential meta, unconscious, and heavy bandaging over the whole torso. Can you contact home and have Penny-one or The Doctor on standby?â
As Dick took care of directing the team, Jason took care of keeping their tentative ally willing to listen to them. âWe might have some contacts that can help. We have friends that also need more attention that the regular doctor can give them. Do you kids have names we can use?â
It was more of a lead than theyâd had since theyâd gotten stranded there, so the eldest teen seemed hesitant but hopeful to grab onto it. After a moment of thinking, her other hand reaching out to Danielle as she started to blink her eyes open, she responded. âMy name is Jazz. This is my little brother Danny, my little sister Dani with an I, and our friends Sam and Tucker.â
â... Your parents gave your little siblings the same name?â Jason couldnât help asking after hearing the relationships. That also explained a lot about why Jazz had been so frantically protective of Danny, aside from her being the oldest of the group.
âItâs⌠a long story,â Jazz admitted, grimacing a little. âDanielle⌠was unexpected.â
Looked like Jazz didnât quite trust them enough. That was fine, they didnât need a whole backstory right off. Oracle could probably figure it out easily now that she had names and relations. âFair enough,â Jason dismissed with a grunt, ending his conversation as Dick approached them.
âHey. Thereâs a whole mess of stuff going on, I know, but right now weâre going to focus on making sure everyone is taken care of, and then we can figure out the rest of the mess later, okay?â Dick started, leaning low with his hands on his knees and speaking gently. âThe police and paramedics can take care of the criminals that were hunting you, but since heâs a special case weâre going to move to a different location where weâll give everyone a check up. Sound good?â
Jazz didnât jump at the offer, but they could see she saw promise in it, and hesitantly nodded. âMy friends and I stay together at all times. Got it?â she demanded.
âSure,â Dick agreed, not seeing any issue with that. âBut weâll keep the restraints on if necessary, alright? You all still have charges of assault after all.â
It was easy to see Jazzâs expression fall significantly at the reminder, as though her soul had been slightly crushed. âYeah⌠okay,â she agreed, swallowing some nausea that had churned her stomach at being reminded they were criminals. Then, before Danielle could fuss too much, Jazz turned to rest a hand on the small girlâs arm. âDani, these guys have agreed to help us. So behave and donât pick any fights unless I say otherwise, alright?â
The fist that Danielle had prepared to punch her holder didnât move, and after a moment Danielle groaned in reluctant relent. âGuhhhh can I at least punch the guy who drugged me? I feel awful.â
The comment earned a weak chuckle from Jazz, and she patted Danielleâs arm. âIâll think about it. Just rest for now. Weâre moving to a safe place.â She hoped she wasnât lying to Danielle, and that these people would actually, finally give them the help they needed.

"Good" Acting
i have a theory that a lot of people say acting is "good" when they're emotionally moved by it, and a lot of cishet white people have a lifelong habit of not listening or empathising when minoritised people speak, so minority actors get called "bad" even when they display some pretty fucking amazing technical skill
#also a lot of female actors don't get recognised despite being fucking GOOD#that's not to say minority actors can't always be bad#of course we can#I'm just saying#sometimes#for SOME shows in particular#ahem ahem#some actors might get very heavily criticised for reasons that have very little to do with their actual technical skill#and more to do with the politics of those criticising them#also I'm not talking about me here#before anyone says that#I'm talking about some actors I know who have recently been criticised in my opinion quite unfairly#despite doing something very difficult#like oooohhh i dunno#playing two roles in the same show?#and doing it very well#displaying some amazing technical mastery of body and voice technique#but hey what do I know#oh wait I went to drama school and I'm a professional actor lol I DO know#I'm just a woman so I have to couch my expertise in cutesy self-deprecation lest people think I'm a bitch

Taking the current topic as an excuse to ask you to tell me all the reasons you love Rarijack. Your art for the ship is so sweet and intimate I'd love to hear any in depth thoughts you have.
Breathes in.
I think what makes their dynamic really strong is that they have opposing personalities but aligned values. It's deeper than just "opposites attract." Rarity's fancy, prissy, and femme while Applejack's modest, rough, and "masculine." But both value hard work (to the point of being workaholics), their families (both have guardianship over their little sisters), running successful businesses, and eventually each other. Their relationship can be boiled down to, "Despite our differences/disagreements, I still like you because we value the same things."
We see their relationship develop so much. In the first season, they can't stop bickering about surface-level differences. By season four, they still bicker, but will mend their relationship because they can't help but do nice things for each other. In Trade Ya, they start off arguing over personality differences (Applejack likes old junk and Rarity likes useless crap). Then they pivot and start arguing that they value their relationship more than the other. In the end, they mend things by sacrificing their needs and buying each other a gift. Even if they don't understand it, they know it'd make the other happy. And that's all that really matters. It's a genuinely sweet moment that shows how arguing can be healthy and necessary for relationships to strengthen.
We even see them dropping their hang-ups about each others' personalities. In Made in Manehattan, when Rarity runs off in dramatics about someone's fashion, AJ doesn't roll her eyes or scoff, she smiles. Oftentimes, their conflicts are very common domestic conflicts romantic couples face. Applejack's Day Off is about a woman's inability to balance work and life and find time to properly spend with her partner, causing her partner to feel neglected.
By season seven, they're actively participating in each others' interests. Any problems or conflicts that arise are dealt with, and they come out the other end stronger and closer. In Honest Apple, AJ pretty much spells out why their relationship works so well: even though she doesn't understand fashion, she can recognize and appreciate how much work it takes and wants to respect that. When she realizes her mistake in the episode, AJ goes above and beyond to fix things and apologize to Rarity. They care about each other so much.
The two go out of their way, sacrificing their personal desires and beliefs and doing things they normally wouldn't, to make the other happy. That's just love.
There's Simple Ways, where AJ gets stuck in an unwanted love triangle between Rarity and her hipster crush. And her frustration and anger can be so easily interpreted as AJ finding herself in a terrible position; the girl she loves wants another man, and that man wants her.
I dunno. I've always had a preference for opposites attract ships, but Rarijack's stuck with me like a brain worm because they have the perfect chemistry. The way they show they care, or do things for each other, I've always read it as the truest representation of romance in the show.
#rarijack#i refuse to be embarrased by how much i know about this damn pony show#this is part of the reason why i never bought into appledash unfortunately. their values aren't aligned#rd lies a lot and often for very self serving reasons#and she distances herself from her family because they're. cringe? overbearing? her parents are very loving and supportive#meanwhile aj's. whole fucking thing. is honesty and family#ask me#anon#this is why it's still a little baffling they aren't canon#we got SO much real development with so much potential subtext#and it never really crossed the finish line#i dunno every time they do something to show they care i'm reminded of myself and my partner too#whenever i see something that's inconvenient or complicated or against my personality (adhd haver) but i know it'd make my#boyfriend happy. i do it anyways. and i always think to myself âwow. that's what love is. that's what it feels likeâ

One sunny day when I was in high school I was walking home alone. The sun was shining, gentle wind rustled the treetops. I was just starting to be able to see that beauty again. I had been depressed for a long time, but that mundane walk home felt magical to me.
On the sidewalk I saw something unusual. I was in love with life in that moment and fascinated to know more. I crouched down to observe and saw the most enchanting bug. Iâd never seen anything like it. To this day I canât remember what it looked like, only that it was as beautiful as the sun shining on the green world below.
My attention was rapt on this tiny magical creature living in such a massive and wondrous world, wondering what it was and marveling that Iâd never seen anything like it.
I didnât hear the girls come up behind me on the sidewalk. But suddenly there was a leg beside me. I wasnât embarrassed to be caught looking at a bug. I was glad someone else might come observe this tiny wonder with me.
Her foot shot up and stomped down abruptly, crushing the object of my interest. I looked up at her.
I didnât know either of the girls standing above me. They had seen a stranger and decided to punish her for behaving in a way they considered unacceptable. I looked up at the face of the girl who had killed my bug, trying to understand her thoughtless malice.
I think she had expected me to be upset or visibly shaken by her destruction. When I stared unblinkingly up at her she seemed to feel a brief moment of shame, shifting uneasily.
Then she and her friend turned and walked away without a word spoken.
#ramblies#sometimes I want to make a comic about this moment but I can never do it justice#it was just a random act of cruelty#but I think when I didnât react how she expected she did realize what sheâd done#writing#itâs not a poem but is it? I dunno#story

"May I help you, mister...?"
Pariah Dark paused, slowly looking the old (by human standards) butler up and down before slowly sheathing his sword and crossing his arms. He looked the butler up and down once more, before glancing at the mansion and back at him.
Hm.
Hm.
"May I come in?" The king asked calmly, voice kept carefully lower than he would usually speak with. He was aware that his normal tone of voice was 'loud' in human standards. The butler stared at him for a moment, before slowly stepping to the side. "Of course, sir. Though I am certain I have not yet gotten your name."
He pushed his foot forward, soon passing through the threshold as fire wrapped around his body as he shrunk. Armor being exchanged for more 'comfortable' clothing besides his cape as he stepped through the doorway and grunted. "You may refer to me as War."
The butler nodded, not batting an eye as the sudden shift in clothing or size. "You came at quite the convenient time. Would you like to join us for dinner, sir War?"
Him?
Eat mortal food?
Perposterous.
"If you would have me and it's no further effort on your part, I could make such an arrangement." He fell in step easily behind the butler, hands folding behind his back in a similar if not a bit more extra way as his cape and hair swayed behind him with his every step.
"I believe I can arrange something to your liking," There was a sliver of mischief in the butler's tone as he led the king to what he assumed to be the dining room. "So far, all of my guests had only good things to say about my hospitality. I do so hope you're among them as well, words of praise from one of your station is quite hard to come by."
"I trust that your hospitality be nothing but kind." The king said, coming to a stop at a door the butler soon held open.
"Please, make yourself comfortable while I go inform those who will join you and make something more..." There was a slight twinkle in the butler's eyes. "Attuned, to your pallet."
The king chuckled. "I look forward to it." Then stepped inside.

So, did everyone see K doing the work of a team of people for four days straight and just decide that was a normal thing for them to have done and not, like, INCREDIBLE thematic work.
Like. The problem is not that K is self-centered or that K is selfish or even that K is a dumbass. The problem is that K has never learned how to champion a cause. K has been trying to fix the world, not just Evan, and the whole *gestures* thing with his arm is not just about their âI can fix himâ mindset.
Itâs âI can fix everything.â Itâs âI can fix what I SPECIFICALLY broke.â Magic is gone because K wanted to have a world full of wonder and hope. Like, Evanâs lack of healing is directly followed by magic breaking, and that is why K is so desperate to fix it. Look at what K has been doing to fix what they have broke, look at how Teddyâs been forced to stay inside and how K has actively deteriorated. Itâs not just about this one thing! The character flaws go so deep.
It is not normal to do what K has been doing. It is actively detrimental to do what K has been doing to themself. K fucks up (or at least perceives themselves has having fucked up) and then K takes a big, risky swing to fix the fuck up and then that fails, too and K has to fix it again so K takes another tryâŚ
The ARGs and the trench coat look and Teddy in a room all day and K not eating enough. Those are a big swing too. Those are a big, flashy way to fix things because again K has not learned how to champion a cause, K did not properly recover from Terminal Onlineness even if they did learn how to stop viciously bullying people for bad opinions.
K has a deeply admirable, genuine desire to help and the way K chooses to help is Big Swings and the rules of the world have changed. The rules of the world have changed. This is NOT Big Swings time, this is buckle down and work at small goals and focus in time.
Evan tried to help and failed too. But what Evan tried to help with was a t-shirt, not a broken arm, and so the consequence was nothing but an errant bird.
#k tanaka#âitâs protagonismâ absolutely but not in the way you seem to think#think SMALL not BIG#this is the whole thing. whole fricking thing#also why is nobody talking about how absolutely amazing this was for erica to have down#thank you kindly ms ishii you stirred the pot so fucking good that the pot broke in two and everyone is screaming#mismag#mismag 2#dimension 20#ohh man parallel to the cauterization in mismag 1 actually#dunno what to do with that but its tasty tasty tasty#IDK this is just a lot of thoughts

Gabrielâs flock is the closest youâre gonna get to a cult that actually isnât a cult due to their mostly pacifistic ways
This does cause problems however when dissenters or spies start causing problems
Gabriel is a little backwards with how they deal with people like this, as they simply just kick them out instead of forcing them to to change their ways
Granted if they cause actual problems, like stealing, damage to property, or hurting others: they will get sent to jail
For the most part itâs these individuals choice if they want to stay, Gabriel isnât forcing them
Doesnât mean Gabriel canât get frustrated tho and contemplate âwhat if I just said fuck it and murdered these peopleâ

Miguel is Fine, Actually (Being Spider-Man's Just Toxic As Hell)
Before I watched ATSV I said that I would defend my man Miguel O'Hara's actions no matter what, because he's always valid and I support women's wrongs. I was joking, and I did not actually expect to start defending him on Tumblr.edu. But I'm seeing a lot of commentary that's super reductive, so I do want to bring up another perspective on his character.
Miguel wasn't acting against the spirit of Spider-Man, or what being Spider-Man means. Miguel isn't meant to represent the antithesis of Spider-Man. Miles is the antithesis of Spider-Man. Miguel represents Spider-Man taken to its extreme.
Think about Miguel's actions from his perspective. If you were a hero who genuinely, legitimately, 100%, no doubt about it, believed that somebody is going to make a selfish decision that will destroy an entire universe and put the entire multiverse at severe risk - if you had an over-burdened sense of responsibility and believed in doing the right thing no matter what - you would also chase down the kid and put him in baby jail to try and prevent it. He believed that he was saving the multiverse, and that Miles was putting it in danger for selfish reasons. Which is completely unforgivable to him, because selfishness is what he hates the most. And then he goes completely out of pocket and starts beefing with a 15yo lmfaooo he's such a dick.
But why did Miguel believe that? Why did he believe that Miles choosing himself and his own happiness over the well-being of others was the worst possible thing? Why did he believe that tragedy was inevitable in their lives, and that without tragedy Spider-Man can't exist?
Because he's Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was once a fifteen year old who chose his own happiness over protecting others. It was the greatest regret of his life and he never forgave himself. Peter's ethos means that he will put himself last every time, and that he will sacrifice anything and everything in his life - his relationships, his health, his future - to protecting and helping others. Peter dropped out of college because it interfered with Spider-Man. He destroyed his own future for Spider-Man. He ruins friendships and romantic relationships because Spider-Man was more important. If Peter ever tries to protect himself and his own happiness, then he's a bad person.
That is intrinsic to Peter. Peter would not be Peter without it. A story that is not defined by Peter's unhappiness is not a Spider-Man story. If Peter doesn't make himself miserable, then he's just not Peter.
That is a Spider-Man story: that not only is tragedy inevitable, that if you don't allow yourself to be defined by your tragedy then you're a bad person. If you don't suffer, then you're a bad person. If you ever put anything above Spider-Man, then you're killing Uncle Ben all over again. Miguel isn't the only one that believes this - as we saw, every Spider-Man buys into what he's saying. There's no Spider-Man without these beliefs.
Miguel attempted to find his own happiness, and he was punished in the most extreme way. He got Uncle Ben'd x10000. He tried to be happy, and it literally destroyed his entire universe. It's the Spider-narrative taken to the extreme. Of course Miguel believes all of this. Of course he believes this so firmly. He's Spider-Man. That's his story. And the one time Miguel tried to fight against that story, he was punished. And like any Spider-Man, he'll slavishly obey that narrative no matter the evil it creates and perpetuates. Because if he doesn't, the narrative will punish him. The narrative will always punish him. It's a Spider-Man story.
I don't think the universal constant between Spider-Mans, the thing that makes them Spider-Man, is tragedy. I think it's the fact that they never forgive themselves. And Miguel is what that viewpoint creates. He doesn't believe this things because he's an awful, mean person. He believes them because he's a hero. He's a good person who hates himself.
Across the Spider-verse isn't really a Spider-Man story. It's a story about Spider-Man stories. Miguel's right: if this was a Spider-Man story, then Miles acting selfishly really would destroy the universe. But Miles' story isn't interested in punishing him. It pushes back against Peter's narrative that unhappiness is inevitable and that you have to suffer to be a good person. It says that sometimes we do the right thing from love and not fear, and that Peter's way of thinking is ultimately super toxic and unhappy. ITSV was about Miles deciding that he didn't need to be Peter Parker, that all he needed to be was Miles, and ATSV is about how being Peter Parker isn't such a good thing. Miguel shows that. Whatever toxic and unhealthy beliefs he holds - they're the exact same beliefs that any Spider-Man holds. He's a dick, but I don't think he's any more awful a person than Peter is.
TL;DR: Miguel isn't a bad person, he just has Spider-Man brainrot.
