ROUND #2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the amount of episodes we have- and the way math works- there does have to be a 3-way poll. Same rules still apply, the one with the most moves on, the other two are eliminated.

Words cannot describe how disappointed I was when 'Beaks In the Shell' first aired, revealing that Fenton's workplace was still in the bathroom stall... despite Gyro admitting in 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' that he was wrong to treat Fenton similar to how he himself was treated by Akita back when he was a young, bright-eyed intern, and then genuinely promoting him to full-time employee.
It really seemed to take away from the VERY promising start of Gyro's amazing character development (along with calling Fenton "Dr. Intern" instead of Dr. Crackshell-Cabrera like he referred to him when he promoted him in 'Astro B.O.Y.D.', or just his first name; while I hc Gyro was still reluctant to regularly use *any* part of Fenton's name going forward, despite his genuine intentions to treat him with the respect and support he realized he deserved- likely because of his social awkwardness and lingering apprehension of getting too close to others because of his past trauma- that's another area of inconsistent character development that disappointed me).
Sometime in season 3, between 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' and 'Beaks In the Shell', Frank Angones once answered an ask on his old Tumblr about whether Fenton still worked in the bathroom or if he had his own space in the lab proper. Frank answered that he was still working from the bathroom, and that he was quite used to it; also that nobody used it as an actual bathroom anymore, ever since Fenton accidentally caused an explosion (no mention of whether Gyro still made him work in there or if it was Fenton's own choice, which bugged me).
Therefore, I hc that Gyro offered Fenton his own workspace in the lab proper after promoting him, but that Fenton- too humble for his own damn good- turned it down, saying he was fine and that he was used to it. It seems like something Fenton would say, and in 'Beaks In the Shell', you can see that it actually looks much more like an actual office area since the only other time we saw it way back in s1's 'Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System' (the changing table was even gone), so I think he just spruced it up to turn it into his own official area after he got promoted.
Ofc, the most realistic reason Fenton was likely still working in the bathroom was for storytelling purposes; a big part of the episode was him keeping the GizmoCloud (and his relationship with Gandra) a secret until it was ready to be launched. But still. XD

DUCKTALES '17 TAG
'Sup party people!
It's been a while since I started a tag, but I want to try again. I'll tag @not-some-background-noise @miniaturecollectionwitchofsun @godfrey-the-chaos-duck @lettheladylead, but it's free for anyone...
1) Favorite character
Webby. I love how they managed to make her a lover of adventures and mysteries without sacrificing her femininity... she is also an eternal optimist and the heart of the family, and I love how she manages to help everyone around her in unique ways
2)Favorite triplet
Huey. I love his characterization and his arc (although every triplet is well written and I love them all)
3)Favorite villain
Magica De Spell: she isn't just voiced by the most important woman in the whole wide universe (I'm a whovian who started the series because of DT, imagine how happy I was when I discovered there was also Catherine Tate), but she is also a great villainess who is genuinely good at being bad in a way that everyone is always worried she is behind everything... I also have a soft spot for Mark Beaks because he is realistic in both a funny and a scary way
4)Favorite non canon ship
Weblena: I love the way Lena got saved from Webby and at the same time she had to do some work to save herself, while Webby was always there to support her... they have a beautiful dynamic together and even if they're not officially canon, they still are (Sam King said that)
5)Favorite canon ship
Fendra... I liked them in 'The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee' and I couldn't wait to see how their relationship could evolve only to find in 'Beaks in the Shell!' the cutest and most supportive lovestory ever! We need more male sunshine/female grumpy relationship in media and they were absolutely adorable (they deserved WAY more time together, but their canon interactions kinda make up for this due to their cuteness)
6)Favorite episode
'Nightmare on Killmotor Hill', I think. It's so visually creative with all the kids' dreams and it hits you right in the feels with Lena's arc... the finale is so powerful.
7)A character you came to like the more you knew them
Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera. I didn't know Lin Manuel Miranda back when season 1 aired, but by learning more about him I came to appreciate his character more, and by the end of the series he is probably one of my favorites
8)A theory that hadn't been canonized but you believe it as canon
Scrooge was actively searching for Donald although everybody believed he was on the cruise but he didn't want to warn both the kids and his twin sister (I wrote a whole meta about it back in the day if you're curious)
9)The one question you never stop to ask about
How Selene, THE GODDESS OF THE MOON, didn't know Della, (her possible former girlfriend?), was stuck on the Moon? She has powers over it, so why did she ignore it? Was her father fault? ANGONES, DT WRITERS, EXPLAIN TO ME PLEASE, IT'S BEEN 5 YEARS I KEEP TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT!
10)What would you have liked to see in the (cancelled) fourth season?
MAGICSTONE CANON, an eventual Magica's redemption without Lena forgiveness, THE TRIPLETS DAD (I know they didn't want to explore the character in order to highlight how Donald was basically their true dad, BUT... it would have been an interesting plot), Goldie's backstory, Hortense and Quackmore, more moments between Donald and Scrooge, Daisy bonding with the family, June and May finding their own place in it, more Fendra, more domestic Scroldie, BRIGITTA (I know the writers would have handled her well just as they did with Daisy), Scrooge and Webby adjusting their dynamic as father and daughter, more lore about Fenton's dad, the kids interacting all together...
And that's it. Feel free to participate!

Here are my collected thoughts on why I ship Fenro and not Fendra
@shychick-52 @rommaru
First, if the DT crew wanted to make Fendra canon, they should’ve actually had more episodes building up their relationship, instead of shoehorning all that development in just Beaks in the Shell. Just like georgiarose answered in their respective post.
It wouldn’t have been hard to have Gandra genuinely apologize to Fenton for being in cahoots with Mark Beaks and lying to him in the process, but the show never does that due to the Duck family’s main character syndrome and the show’s cast bloat. Then there are the episodes in Season 3 where Gandra doesn’t interact with Fenton until the final episodes of Season 3, and her redemption arc doesn’t get developed throughout the same season, only in Beaks in the Shell. Heck throughout their “date” in Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee, Gandra did criticize two of Fenton’s experiments for not being risky “What if you don’t like glazed doughnuts?” -Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee” and for conforming with Mcduck’s corporate checklist “So, Rich boss McDuck gets to gobble up all of the Earth’s precious gems for himself? What’s next, some kind of Gold magnet?” - Same episode, although I do agree with her anticapitalist belief, which is the one trait I’m tolerable of. During that whole lab session she also demonstrated her own tech, her Eyebuds and Nanites, WITHOUT Fenton’s permission, to show how good her free lance tech is (which honestly felt like a red flag to me)
Tumblr media
Exhibit A, Gandra testing her nanites on Fenton, without his permission
In the whole series, Fenton is a lawful good duck and Gandra’s obviously morally grey, and as you watch Gandra’s cover get blown during the climax of Dangerous chemistry of Gandra Dee you begin to become disappointed with her when she doesn’t apologize to Fenton for double crossing him, that very episode made me completely disappointed in the character herself.
Dialogue is also from The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee:
Fenton: So I’m the suit? You’re the one working for Beaks!
Gandra: I work for myself. I just …used him for funding and resources.
Fenton: For what? Was any of this real? What are you?
Gandra: A scientist, free of responsibility, and look …for what it’s worth, you’re a good scientist.
Fenton: And you’re a crook.
If you focus on Gandra’s lines, there is an underlying hypocrisy to her character, she is also responsible for creating the nanites to cause Mark Beaks to go berserk. The dialogue reaffirms that Gandra did not formally apologize to Fenton and took accountability for her actions at the end of her debut episode.
Reminder, I rage quit watching the Ducktales reboot after seeing spoilers for Beaks in the Shell. There was not a lot of compatibility and build up to Fenton and Gandra falling in love together near the end of the series. The reason they started their relationship is because of Huey and Webby forcing them to get together on a date, while completely disregarding Fenton’s boundaries in the process, and this is something you should never do IRL. Due to Gandra being a hypocrite claiming she’s a rebel scientist only to reveal she was forced to work for F.O.W.L. Through her sob inducing backstory (Playing the guilt card are we?) does sum up how her redemption arc or lack thereof, didn’t make it feel compelling to us at all. Since Gandra and Fenton only interacted in 3 episodes total, through Beaks in the Shell we learn that they’re in a secret relationship and run science experiments together in a virtual reality which also had so many plotholes. Beaks in the Shell made Fenton and Gandra’s relationship feel rushed and forced with no substance to it at all, they just made them canon to constantly enforce heteronormativity like Disney and pander to the Shippers.
And then you have Fenton’s relationship with Gyro who surprisingly interacted more with him than with Gandra in the entire series. Fenton may be lawfully good and friendly while Gyro is antisocial and focused on his inventions they actually have a solid dynamic and were able to play off of each other. Throughout season 1 and Astroboyd they had a gradual build up of care and respect and especially in Astroboyd Gyro ends up promoting Fenton to a doctor to show the respect he now has for him.
Dialogue is from near the end of AstroB.OY.D.
Yes, intern. I was once like you. Of course, I was a naive idiot back then. But if I had someone to actually listen to me, I might not have been so hopeless. So... you're hired full-time, Dr. Crackshell-Cabrera.
Fenro: That's not technically how doctorates work, and I don't care!
Gyro: Okay, everybody, the hugging is a "just for today" thing.
Tumblr media
Exhibit B, Fenton happily embracing Gyro after being promoted to a full time job as a Doctor. Also this hug was before Gyro protected Fenton before Boyd could attack him and managed to apologize and embrace Boyd for the mistake he made in the past. Guess which scientist is more committed to their responsibilities in the whole reboot? Also Gyro reconciling with Boyd and promoting Fenton was the best way to have his character arc go off on a high note and helped improve his relationship with Dr. Crackshell-Cabrera.
Fenton and Gyro helped fight off the main antagonists in all 3 season finales of the Ducktales reboot, they had great chemistry together whenever they’re on screen, they’re opposites attract, they’re both brilliant scientists, heck, that’s why I enjoyed watching scenes of them together, and why I ended up shipping them even thought they didn’t end up together. Fenton and Gyro were awesome characters that had the best designs in the reboot. You’ll also know it’s a problem in the episodes featuring Gandra, the writers had to completely change Fenton and Gyro’s dynamic in order to have Gandra and Fenton be more “compatible”. Due to realizing that they ended up realizing they gave Fenton and Gyro way more chemistry than they did with Gandra. Look these two whole posts aren’t hot takes these are just my opinions I’m sharing with you. Also I wasn’t trying to antagonize the Fendra shippers at all in this critical post. Tl;dr, Fenton and Gyro’s relationship got no homo’d out of existence near the end of the series, and Fendra ended up feeling very forced and obviously rushed with Gandra’s character feeling poorly handled by the DT17’s writers. Fun fact, Beaks in the Shell was one of the least watched episodes out of the series.

okay i was watching CakeSplosion! today and there's a part where Milo's talking and Amanda puts her finger on his lips to make him stop talking and that reminded me of the Beaks In The Shell episode of DuckTales where Gandra does the same thing to Fenton and paralleling both ships at once like that made me think of you.
First of all, thank you so much for thinking of this little blog of mine.
Secondly, I adore these ships so much! Makes this blog twice as cute!

Ducktales Villains update:
Scrooge doesn't go on adventures anymore, so Glomgold thinks he won and is no longer a villian.
I saw this from the deviant art account DarthDestruktor, but Big Time Beagle is the new leader of the Beagle Boys. Ma retired, in a sense.
Magica De Spell found her brother Poe with the help of Scrooge and Louie. Magica and Poe are still doing evil, but they now leave the McDuck family alone. She has also married Gladstone Gander and still has Bradford as a familiar.
As established in Beaks in the Shell, Mark Beaks is a nobody and no one cares about his company, he is still rich though. He has a daughter, Wren Beaks, who was partially raised by her grandmother, Emma Glamour. Wren is into computers and tech like her dad, but is creative and can actually build things. She also likes fashion.
Don Karnage didn't die in the crash, but he was severally injured. He lost his arm, one leg, an eye, and his snout. He has also lost his crew and airplane in The Lost Cargo of Kit Cloudkicker, so he doesn't do pirating anymore. He wants even more revenge on Dewey Duck. Don now has a grandson, Don Karnage iii, who he is training as a pirate to revenge Dewey.
Doofus Drake loss a lot of his money and all of the power over his parents because of Boyd and Louie, but after The Life and Crimes of Scrooge McDuck, he is no longer an enemy and wants to become friends with Louie again, but Louie isn't interested. Doofus doesn't hate Boyd anymore and considers Boyd his brother. Doofus even dated Webby for a little bit before she left him. Him and Webby have a child, Doofus Jr. Doofus loves his child, even though they don't really have a close relationship.
A lot of F.O.W.L. is alive: Taurus Bulba, Steelbeak, Phantom Blot, and Pepper. Taurus Bulba is the new leader of fowl. Phantom Blot and Pepper are now married. Steelbeak is trying to get revenge on Dewey.
Timmy Jenkins isn't really an enemy, but I thought there should be more pig ocs, so Timmy is now a famous movie actor and director, since his whole thing is that he upstages Dewey. He has a niece, Taylor Jenkins.

For the Ducktales 2017 ask game, let's go with favorite character and ship.
Favorite character: Okay, I’m gonna cheat a bit and split this between the kids and the adults. Amongst the kids, I’ll say Huey. Amongst the adults, Fenton.
Favorite ship: Fendra (Fenton/Gandra). Loved their interactions in The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!, Beaks in the Shell!, and The Last Adventure!. Although no, I will not deny that there’s a lot up to interpretation between the first two episodes, not much of a bridge in the show between them, resulting in a lot of missing context in BitS. I do quite enjoy stories involving this ship, though.

Ducktales days. Fight at castle duck How was seeing Scrooge parents and his sister again as well as phantom blot. How Santa Stole Christmas. Getting to see why Scrooge hates Santa, this felt like classic Christmas Scrooge. Beak in the Shell. Getting to see Fenton again as well as Gandra, her turning on Fowl. Mark Beak is always fun. If you're going to make tech billionaire then Mark Beak fit perfect. So next week you watch 2 episode and the following week the three part finale?
Always glad to see more of Scrooge's family! His sister was Matilda was a great addition, I loved her sibling rivalry with Scrooge. I'm sure we all know that one person in our lives who's always trying to find their big break and never quite manages to settle on anything.
Not gonna lie though, Phantom Blot and Pepper might have been my favorite part of the episode. Their friendship was so cute! Grumpy guy and energetic girl is always a winning combination. I was actually rooting for them a little bit to win XD. Just a shame we don't get to see more of them.
I figured it was something Petty on Scrooge's end, but I didn't think it would be THAT petty. He was seriously the villain in this episode, though at least he came around in the end. Some things like hope are more important than simple material concerns, and I'm glad Scrooge was able to learn that.
Cool to see Gandra coming around to the good side! I always thought it was a bit hypocritical of her to claim to be independent when she was getting funding from villains, and I still think she was a bit hypocritical here using their resources to make her project work, but at least she tried to get out in the end. Even if it didn't quite work out...
Mark Beaks, how far you have fallen. Makes sense after all the scandals he's gone through with his villainous activities. I get the feeling this will be his last appearance, and it's a fitting send-off for him.
Yep! Just two more weeks to go, and I'll be finished with Ducktales. I'm pretty sad about it honestly. I've loved this show so much, it's gonna hurt not having anymore new episodes. I guess that's what fanfiction is for! Might try my hand at writing it myself, I have a couple ideas...

Thoughts about Gandra Dee and Fenton?
This is a slightly edited version of a post I made last year.
This is something that has confused me for a long time, and I'd love for any fendra fans or fans of Gandra in general to weigh in (or anyone in the Ducktales fandom). I was wondering what some of your headcanons are about the missing gaps the series left untouched regarding Gandra's relationship with Fenton and her role in F.O.W.L. (which I go over in this post).
I don't hate Gandra, but I've always had a hard time liking her because of how poorly developed/explained and rushed the revelation of her backstory, true reasons for being in F.O.W.L., redemption, and relationship with Fenton in season 3's 'Beaks In the Shell' all were. At least, I personally found them very poorly developed because she was shown purely as an antagonist much more often than not, which is the main problem.
Tumblr media
At the end of the season 2 finale ‘Moonvasion’, Gandra was revealed to be a member of F.O.W.L. This left a lot of us reeling with so many questions. Especially with the way 'Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee' ended- with her helping Fenton defeat Mark Beaks (who'd hired her as part of a trap for Fenton), then quietly leaving him with the parting gift of the correct equation to finish his big project with the note "To a fellow scientist" (as a way of apologizing for all she did, as well as showing he'd earned her respect) before just vanishing without any word of apology or any real explanation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I always felt that Fenton seemed to forgive Gandra too easily at the end of 'The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee' after how upset and hurt he was by her actions. Yes, I admit she took responsibility for just using Fenton by (1) first going after Mark Beaks on her own to stop him when he went mad with power, kidnapped Huey and Webby, and went on a rampage in the city, (2) then teaming up with Fenton to take Beaks down, (3) then giving him what he needed to successfully finish his project.
BUT it just feels like it wasn't enough, especially after she not only took advantage of him to get funding from Mark Beaks in the first place, but also short-circuited the Gizmoduck armor (leaving Fenton helpless) when he was originally trying to stop Beaks himself. Even though it's likely she probably only protected Beaks there because she still needed to get paid from him, it was still extremely selfish, especially because 'Mega-Beaks' could have seriously hurt Fenton without the armor if he wanted to (instead of just deciding to grab the kids and go on a rampage in the city for attention instead, which she did not expect him to do).
Tumblr media
The next time we saw Fenton and Gandra together (and learned they'd been in a secret relationship all along, and were working on a top-secret project together), it was in 'Beaks In the Shell', which is one of the last episodes of season 3 (only three episodes away from 'The Last Adventure'):
Tumblr media
Ever since the very end of season 2, we learned she was one of F.O.W.L.'s agents, and she was seen actively working against the Ducks with them in a few episodes in the third season. And the big twist about Gandra and Fenton in 'Beaks In the Shell' just seemed to come absolutely out of nowhere. Ever since I first saw that episode back when it first aired, I have always been extremely curious- and wish they'd somehow elaborated at least little more- about the following:
How and when did they reconnect after 'Dangerous Chemistry' (which took place in the middle of season 2, while 'Beaks In the Shell' happened near the end of season 3)?
How did that conversation go and what was said? How exactly did Gandra earn Fenton's trust after hurting him so badly? That is, how could he be absolutely sure he could trust her (even after she presumably told him- off-screen, anyway- her backstory leading to making a lot of bad choices in her desperation to get her science projects funded?
How did it not compromise Fenton's morals (because he's such a morally upright person, a total goody-goody) to be in a relationship with somebody with such a shady past, who was currently part of an evil spy organization? It's obvious he wanted to give her a chance after hearing her backstory, and understood that she's not really a bad person, but I just don't understand how he still didn't feel conflicted.
How long Gandra had been in F.O.W.L.? Did she join before or after meeting Fenton?
How long were they secretly a couple and working on their GizmoCloud project, respectively?
What was the extent of Gandra's knowledge of Bradford's plans? Other than retrieving the Missing Mysteries as part of F.O.W.L.'s ultimate goal to destroy all adventure, chaos, and unpredictability and take over the world (which she already knew), what else did she know?
What was the extent of Fenton's knowledge of F.O.W.L.'s plans from Gandra? (Did he know everything she knew? Did she fill him in on anything? Or did she withhold certain information from him for his own protection?)
Didn't the fact that Fenton was dating a F.O.W.L. agent- especially since Gandra actually participated in sabotaging the Ducks in a couple episodes, like 'Escape From the ImpossiBin' and 'The Sword of Swanstantine'- technically make him a traitor?? Especially if he presumably knew that F.O.W.L. was actively plotting against his close friends and allies before the family even found out about that at the end of 'Let's Get Dangerous''!! (Whiiich actually makes the so-called joke in 'Escape From the ImpossiBin' about Fenton randomly being on Beakley's board of potential traitors/secret F.O.W.L. agents make much more sense in retrospect...) If he knew about F.O.W.L. from Gandra before the Ducks, why wouldn't he have alerted them?? It's not like he would've had to say anything about being together with her, so I can't really see her protesting.
Tumblr media
When Huey was initially horrified and outraged to accidentally discover Fenton was together with "Agent Dee" all along (he even shrieked at Fenton, "Are you a F.O.W.L. agent?!"), even after Gandra explained her backstory and deeper reasons for being in F.O.W.L. to the kid, it was SUCH a missed opportunity for him to demand how Fenton could be sure Gandra wasn't just using him like she did back in 'Dangerous Chemistry' (Huey had been there on his disastrous date with Gandra; he helped organize the date and also had discovered that she was really a spy for Mark Beaks).
And it was also a missed opportunity for Huey to demand of Gandra what F.O.W.L. was planning, what they wanted with the Missing Mysteries, and why they were after his family!
Aaaand a missed opportunity for her to apologize to Huey for her part in trying to sabotage the Ducks, even tho she did have to play her role convincingly to F.O.W.L. so they wouldn't suspect she wasn't truly on their side.
There should have been more emphasis on the fact that Gandra was risking her liberty and her life by using F.O.W.L.'s resources and money behind their backs to help develop the GizmoCloud with Fenton, as well as the risk Gandra was taking by quitting F.O.W.L., since both those made her a traitor to the organization (in fact, I go into more detail on that in this post)
Obviously, Gandra planned to launch the GizmoCloud with Fenton after leaving F.O.W.L. for good, as she even said in 'Beaks In the Shell'... but wouldn't it also make sense for her to kind of help the Ducks in their fight against F.O.W.L.?? (I mean, she was the one who hacked into Scrooge's 'ImpossiBin' security system- on Bradford's orders, granted, but still- to distract the family so that F.O.W.L. could steal all the Missing Mysteries the family collected thus far, so it would've been a way to redeem herself) They could've really used her inside knowledge of the organization!! I'm surprised nothing was said about that.
It would have made so much more sense if (throughout season 3 until 'Beaks In the Shell') there had been an anonymous person leaving the Ducks tips about F.O.W.L.'s next move, who would've ofc turned out to be Gandra. But the closest thing we got to seeing her as a double-agent was when it was revealed in 'Beaks In the Shell' that she'd been tipping off Fenton to stop her as Gizmoduck whenever F.O.W.L. sends her to steal resources; to keep F.O.W.L. and anyone else from being suspicious, they would stage a chase or fight and she would 'let' him get back whatever item she stole. That was well-done, but I still think her being this anon source of intel tipping off the Ducks in episodes would have been more effective...
...Because when you think about this exchange between Huey and Gandra in that episode- "No! You attacked us! You stole stuff for F.O.W.L.!" / "I've been tipping Fenton off to stop me before I do!"- it doesn't make sense at all or even mean much. That apparently only applied to miscellaneous items and resources F.O.W.L. was after, not the Missing Mysteries...?! In 'Escape From the ImpossiBin', she genuinely hacked into Scrooge's new-and-improved security system to distract the Ducks (or kill them, if possible) while the rest of F.O.W.L. stole the Missing Mysteries the family collected so far. In the very next episode 'The Sword of Swanstantine', Gandra was genuinely after the Sword along with the rest of the agents. She wasn't acting those times, she never tipped off Fenton then! (Did he even know about them? And how would/did he feel about it?)
Tumblr media
(Scene from 'Escape From the ImpossiBin')
Tumblr media
(Scene from 'The Sword of Swanstantine')
It's just that... as much as I understand and appreciate the show's efforts to make Gandra morally-grey and misunderstood, and while I definitely get that she isn't a fundamentally bad person but somebody who made a lot of bad choices from a tough life (which Frank Angones even confirmed in the art book), she was shown doing far more bad things than good. I know she and Fenton are only side characters, so it would have been difficult to give her a more fleshed-out arc like with Lena- and this was the final season, too- but I'd like to think my idea of her being this mysterious anon source of intel for the Ducks until it was revealed to be her would've worked much better and made more sense. Instead, her whole arc was confined to a single scene in one episode:
Gandra (explaining to Huey): “My whole life, I’ve tried to push the boundaries of science, but that means people don’t always get what you’re doing. Super-science can be dangerous. It’s why I ended up having to experiment on myself… and why the only people who fund my work are villains who don’t care how much destruction I cause.”
I just felt it was handled in a very sloppy manner (at least, that's my take) and still left a lot of questions. I truthfully think she's a really cool character, and I love that she's not only a baddass female but coded as a woman of color too (like her voice-actress). I don't hate her, but I definitely wish I liked her better. I wish so many things had been better explained.
I have some headcanon of my own that I'll discuss in this second part to this post, but this one is already too long, so I'll wrap it up here.

hha... Too soon. You're probably right. I doubt that Gyro really sees much value in himself.
In the later seasons, he seems apathetic most of the time. The only time he shows emotion is Astro Boyd and Beaks in the Shell. Other times he seems to just be there because he feels obligated to help Scrooge and co.
I think that you're onto something. Just as Fenton comes off as a doormat, Gyro is also like that. He just tries to hide that with the act of seeming conceited and smug.
I think his true personality doesn't come out as much except in certain scenes in Astro Boyd and briefly in others. He sounded genuinely worried and concerned in Dangerous Game night when he warned the Duck Family about the small creatures. I think he was worried about Fenton and that's why he fired Fenton so many times.
He wanted to stop Fenton from endangering his life. (( I am struggling not to include roleplay moments in this discussion because that's an au world ,apart from canon. )))
Most of the time, how Jim Rash read the lines he was given portrays a hidden side to Gyro that we don't get to see but presumably Scrooge, Beakely, Donald, and Della know of.
One that perhaps, Fenton saw glances of but we don't cause the show doesn't follow the adult characters much.
That's why I struggle to condemn how Fenton acts in the show. I think he genuinely knows that Gyro is a good person underneath it all and that they have an understanding of sorts. Maybe unspoken, And Gyro is secretly trying to help Fenton become a great scientist without being obvious about it.
That's also why I try not to give too much flack for Della not thanking Gyro. It probably was just assumed that Gyro was just glad she was back home and neither of them wanted to confront the fact they care about each other ( As siblings most likely, again, struggling not to add personal headcanons here )
Gyro has most likely been around the Duck Family enough to know that they're terrible at confronting feelings and he doesn't do anything to go against that.
Side note, With Mark , it gets complicated because the show seems to be hinting that they're exes or ex-friends with how familiar they are when they talk to each other. That whole scene in the car comes off as old friends/lovers having a spat in front of one of them's dad but trying to avoid being obvious.
In Beaks in the Shell, Gyro is just as angry at Mark as Fenton and Gandra is. But Gyro's feels personal in a different way than Fenton's.
Maybe it's shipper googles.
Gyro in the Ducktales Comics v Gyro in Ducktales The cartoon has completely different relationships with the main cast. Scrooge there comes off more as a father figure and someone who cares about Gyro but refuses to say it outright. And Gyro comes off as an excitable kid who wants his dad to approve of him but seems confused when he's praised by his dad.
Gyro and Louie's friendship in the comics doesn't appear to cross over into the cartoon apart from Louie's 11.
But in the show, Gyro doesn't have connections by the end of the series. He's just kinda there.
did i already talk about how ridiculously forgiving Gyro is? I can't remember.
He forgives Louie for lying and swindling him. ( not sure if there's an off-screen apology from Louie but i doubt it. )
he forgives Fenton for airing out his secret blueprints and letting Mark Beaks steal his invention.
he forgives Fenton for stealing the Gizmo suit and working for Mark Beaks.
he forgives Fenton for letting a spy into his lab, and Gandra for electrocuting him.
He forgives Donald for likely ghosting him for years.
He forgives Huey for tampering with his code and technology.
But he doesn't forgive whatever Mark did to him. And he doesn't forgive Bradford for putting his '' family '' in danger.
He also lets it go when (on-screen) no one thanks him for saving their life. He's done that twice now. ( three times if the Great Dime Chase scene with Louie v the Sorter counts )
It's clear from how he's written that he allows the Duck Family and Fenton to get away with things that he would crucify anyone else over. ( Probably because deep down , he cares about them even if they don't always show they care about him. )

Detective “M’Ma” Cabrera: 13, 16, 20, 21, 22, and 24
Tumblr media
Well this is a character I wasn’t expecting to get. Let’s do this! (Warning. This fun ask game somehow lead to topics of religious trauma and corrupt police stuff. So be warned under the break)
13. Your favorite friendship they have
…I guess Fenton?
16. A childhood headcanon
Uh…ever since she was a kid she wanted to be a cop. Yeah…
20. A weird headcanon
OKAY! I actually have an answer for this!! A weird one too! So this is technically a headcanon I came up with but no longer have but I find it pretty fun and worth sharing!
So when I was going through my second watch through of DuckTales I was reading a book called The Latinos of Asia which is a book a Filipino American talking about the Filipino-American experience in America. In it he interviewed a number of Filipinos about a number of subjects, including if they felt they had more in common with Asians or Hispanic/Latinos. The ones who answered the latter said they grew up around a lot Hispanics and Latinos that went to the same Chruch.
Now personally I’m no longer a practicing Christian (Roman Catholic to be exact) but upon reading this section of the book my mind went to this weird headcanon:
Fenton’s M’ma is a devout Christian while Fenton is not but is still experiencing Catholic guilt
21. When do you think they were at their happiest?
Probably at the end of Beaks in the Shell! She’s so proud of her son and all he has accomplished. Plus he has a girlfriend now.
22. When do you think they were at their lowest?
Uh…Louie’s Eleven! she had an on-screen cameo and no lines. Boooo!
24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?
I think Fenton’s m’ma is a good cop and has good intentions…but she’s a still a cop and has seen shit from her force. I always see jokes where she’s digging through Gandra’s files to threaten her (which I really don’t think she would do), but like guys this Gandra. I don’t think Fenton’s m’ma is the first cop she dealt with. I’m sure if she did do that and m’ma showed up to dinner with Gandra’s files like “Oh so I was doing some interesting research, do you mind if we go over it at dinner?” I’m sure Gandra would fire back with “Sure, but only if we can watch this together after dinner,” and in her hands is a thumb drive marked [Duckburg Police Force “Deleted” Body Cam footage], “I’ll pop the popcorn”

HEADCANONS BEING CONFIRMED ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!
It’s okay, Huey... just let the weighted blanket complete its perfect work.
I love love love love love that Gandra’s first thought when Huey was freaking out was to put a weighted blanket on him!!!

The “Gandra Dee Hate” explained
@gyrofenton @rommaru @shychick-52
This is going to be a quick analysis. I’m not trying to antagonize Gandra and Fendra Stan’s in any way in this post. I don’t hate Gandra as a character, I’m disappointed with how she was handled by the writers in the 2017 reboot. One last time, here we go. Now here’s the analysis:
Spoilers for Ducktales 2017 Seasons 2-3, most of this analysis relates to my previous Ducktales critical post
In the Ducktales 2017 Season 2 episode, “The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!” Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera(Gizmoduck) meets a self proclaimed “independent scientist” who works for no one, Gandra Dee.
Then Fenton invites Gandra to his own “Lab” to show some of his inventions and she accepts. While Fenton tries to impress Gandra with his new projects on their “date” (not cool Huey and Webby, not cool) Gandra isn’t invested and criticizes them for conforming to McDuck’s corporate interests. Gandra also tested her eyebuds and Nantes on Fenton, without his permission to demonstrate the pros of her freelance tech. *Cough* Red Flag move *Cough*.
Then when it’s revealed that Gandra was working for Mark Beaks so the latter could get his revenge on Gizmoduck, Fenton is upset and angry with her. Defending herself from Fenton’s frustration answering that she’s still a rebel scientist, despite having worked for Beaks for funding.
This demonstrates that Gandra is actually a Hypocrite to her own “Independent” belief and it is brought up again in the Season 2 finale and throughout Season 3 when she worked for F.O.W.L. This point will make you more disappointed in Gandra as a character.
Later on in “Beaks and the Shell” Gandra decides to quit working for F.O.W.L., and ends up in a romantic relationship with Fenton working on inventions together. And many people who ship Fenro, myself included, did not like that at all.
The reason being is that Gandra has been dishonest to Fenton and the main cast especially Huey throughout her debut episode and in Season 3 with taking advantage of Fenton’s Gizmoduck suit and being a member of F.O.WL and shocking Gyro to keep her cover intact. Gandra has also been careless with her inventions seen in a flashback of Beaks in the Shell, and they can cause harm to others seen in “The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee”. Lastly she was a hypocrite claiming to be an “independent scientist” where in reality she actually was working with Mark Beaks and F.O.W.L. for funding. Also her redemption arc was shoehorned into one single episode and felt poorly earned. Since her relationship with Fenton had a lack of compatibility and development we were expecting them to end up together it does feel underwhelming in hindsight. Also Fenton isn’t blameless and morally good he has also done questionable actions when working for McDuck enterprises as seen in @gyrofenton’s post and seemingly faced no repercussions for them whatsoever. Come to think of it, Fenton, Gandra and a lot of the characters, especially the protagonists and main antagonists (especially in Seasons 1 & 3) didn’t really suffer any consequences from their own actions.
In conclusion, what I would have done to improve Gandra as a character was have the events of “The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!” when her actions endangered Fenton, Huey and Webby to Beaks. She would have felt remorseful for them and have an arc improving her projects to not hurt anyone in its vicinity, throughout Seasons 2-3. At the start of Season 3, she’ll realize the true plan for F.O.W.L. And tirelessly work to sabotage their endgame project. In the mid season episode she’ll apologize to Fenton for what she did on their “date” and reveal F.O.W.L.’s true goal, after reconciling with Fenton the rest of the season would help build their romantic relationship, instead of just in one episode.
