I think Gyro Gearloose was one of the best huggers in DuckTales (2017) since it was his hug and sincere words of affirmation that helped Boyd understand who he truly is, a definitely real boy.

Which DuckTales characters are the best huggers?

There were a lot of hugs that we got on screen, and plenty more offscreen, but what are your guys’ thoughts?

Anyway, I’ll get the ball rolling with a few I had in mind.

Webby is a good place to start. She’s very open and strongly affectionate with people she’s close to, so she’s definitely a good hugger.

Donald is a very protective, paternal man who won’t hesitate to protect the ones he loves (especially if they’re younger); plus, he raised Huey, Dewey, and Louie on his own for 10 years, so he’s definitely had a lot of practice.

Launchpad! I mean, just look at the guy. He’s big, friendly, loyal-who wouldn’t want a hug from him? He is the definition of “golden retriever guy”.

I know I missed plenty of other characters, but that’s the point, I guess. I don’t want to knock out every character in this one post; I want to make room for discussion. I now give the floor to the rest of you.

Honestly I like that idea as opposed to what we actually got in the finale. I felt like the show’s whole theme of family doesn’t always have to be strictly about who you’re related to was kind of thrown out the window in regards to the reveal of Webby being a clone of Scrooge (and somehow that equals to her being his daughter). It just seems weird that there were a couple of episodes throughout the series about Webby feeling like she doesn’t belong or fit in with the McDuck family which end up being resolved with the idea that even though she’s not related by blood it doesn’t mean she’s not considered a member of the family, only for the series finale to give off the impression that because Webby is a clone of Scrooge she is now “officially” a part of the McDuck family. I’m aware that the twist helps Webby realize Beakley is her granny because despite there being no blood relation between the two Beakley raises, treats, and most importantly loves Webby (which is quite possibly the only aspect of the twist that I like), but at the end of the day the twist makes it seem like Webby is only considered a McDuck family member because she’s technically related to Scrooge in a way.

Are we talking about the Papyrus now? Screw it, I’ll talk about the Papyrus now.

Back in 2022, I was involved in a conversation with some other people on Tumblr regarding the finale of DuckTales and the Papyrus of Binding, and I pitched sort of a “what if?” scenario that, in some ways, make the twist a bit more plausible (I’m not ignoring canon altogether, but just bear with me here. I repeat: This is not in complete ignorance of the actual twist we got, I was fine with it; this is pure speculation):

The whole reveal scene goes the same, but instead, Von Drake reveals that Webby is a clone of Beakley. Huey then asks how it would be possible that Webby was able to get the Papyrus if she wasn’t blood. Von Drake then explains a “non-blood heir” loophole.

In the finale, there already was a loophole to Bradford’s contract in regards to Scrooge having to choose between his family and adventure (since family is an adventure in and of itself), so realistically, there could also be a loophole worked into the Papyrus. In that instance, the show’s whole idea of found family would be strengthened all the more.

I feel like Webby’s interactions with Scrooge (and Beakley) after this scene could be easily tweaked to reflect all this. Just toss out all the parental references and go with sort of an affirmation of how just because Webby is not a blood relation to the family, it doesn’t mean she’s not part of it, and it sure doesn’t mean that she’s any less worthy of the Papyrus than any of Scrooge’s blood relatives. I mean, the girl freakin’ idolizes him! She is a born adventurer, even without the clone twist that we actually got.

I absolutely adore this story and highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it yet to please do because it’s so heartwarming and wholesome. 😊 ❤️

Okay, Duck fandom! I’ve been thinking recently about where different characters in the show would fall on the cinnamon roll spectrum. Basically something like this:

Some are pretty obvious, like Webby for “looks like a cinnamon roll, could actually kill you”, or Mrs. Beakley for “looks like they could kill you, could actually kill you”. And I’ve seen various iterations of this before with DuckTales characters, both on here and in general Internet searches. But I wanna know what you guys think. What are your opinions for where different characters in the fandom would wind up on this chart?

A ‘defected’ Timephoon clone, he is greatly injured during the fight in Moonvasion. Falling off of Killmotor Hill and losing his hand, he takes months of recovering and rebuilding himself only to learn that no one truly cared about the clones and no one even thought one of them could be missing. Hurt, bitter and angry, he strives to enact his revenge on the person he’s come to blame for all of that- Scrooge McDuck. Known as ‘Mads’ to a select few who are allowed to call him that and with a strange flirtatious obsession with Gyro; he disregards everyone else formerly in his life to achieve his goal of gaining recognition and fear from anyone who forgot him.

This year the episode I consider to be an absolute masterpiece and the best DuckTales (2017) episode in the entire series Astro Boyd is going to have a 5th year anniversary on May 2nd! I really do think that we, as the DuckTales (2017) fan base, should do something very special for this occasion such as an Astro Boyd month for the entirety of May where we post fanart, fanfics, analysis/discussion, videos, etc in dedication and celebration of a phenomenal episode!
