just finished Born of Bread today, and my goodness, i LOVE that game! Such a cute little story with amazing art, characters, writing, and everything!! It's not perfect (i ran into more bugs than i could count) but I still highly recommend it to anyone that likes rpgs, and ESPECIALLY the Paper Mario games!

Lint is such a little cutie! He deserves all the nice things!

Everything went quiet, and all of them them walked away from you, to give you a huge space, for now there was nothing between you and the guardian of the North

The Dan Rant™️Part 1

This whole thing was actually brought about by my trying to answer this ask and getting too deeply invested 🗿

This first part only covers my thoughts on S1 Dan but the rest will (hopefully) be added in due time.

Season 1

Dan starts out as your typical shounen protagonist: quick-tempered, easily excitable and always spoiling for a fight to prove he's the best. He meets the level-headed Drago whose very existence creates the first obstacle in Dan's journey; the uncomfortable truth that Bakugan isn't merely a game.

Dan's first lesson is that he needs to take things seriously because he's essentially playing with the lives of others and using them as pawns. This sparks the famous argument between Dan and Drago in episode 3, when Drago chastises Dan for his careless playstyle that got his fellow Bakugan sent to the Death Dimension.

In the Japanese dub, Drago tells Dan that if he only cares about saving Drago and not his other Bakugan, then that makes him no different from Masquerade's minions. This comparison is not only apt but also very interesting when it comes to Dan's character. Runo is characterized as someone who fiercely loves her Bakugan and views them as her friends, which is mirrored in her playing style and how she fights as strategically as possible so she doesn’t lose them. But if Dan doesn't care how his actions will affect the lives of his Bakugan, then with what convictions can he reject Masquerade's philosophy and the callous way he plays this game?

Moving on. Dan understands the importance of strategy after losing to Ryo and he goes to find and apologize to Drago. Character development! Yippie!

Once the Shun storyline plays out, Dan is back to bad-mouthing him again. However, to our collective surprise, it turns out that Shun isn't nearly as self-absorbed as Dan made him out to be! He was grieving the death of his mother and pulled away from the Bakugan game indefinitely as a result, something that Dan seemingly couldn't accept. Dan doesn't inform his friends about Shun’s current state, discourages them from reaching out to him and then gets upset when they do it behind his back when he's the one who didn't tell them why Shun left the team to begin with. I don't think I need to point out how incredibly selfish it is to act in this manner toward your best friend in their moment of need.

This three-episode arc ends with Dan and Shun teaming up to defeat Masquerade and Shun deciding to return to the team. I’ve had my issues with the show stating that this decision was influenced by Dan in any way, shape or form when, if anything, it was influenced by Runo, Marucho and most importantly, Skyress.

Dan was actively keeping Shun away from the group instead of bringing him back in and yet somehow, he's being credited as the one who changed Shun’s mind and made him realize what’s really important when Skyress was the one who encouraged him to seek out his friends. Shun’s speech in episode 13 not only allows Dan to not have to own up to his actions but it also casts him in a positive light despite how terrible he's been to Shun. It's the kind of resolution where you think Dan grew as a character and learned something, but he didn't.

Throughout the show, but most notably in the first season, we are shown that empathy is not Dan's strongest suit. He dismisses Drago’s concerns and refuses to fight in a way that protects his Bakugan from death until he realizes that doing so does him no good in battle, he drags Shun’s name through the mud while said best friend is grieving, he gets mad at Marucho and Runo for reaching out to Shun, he is oblivious to the somber atmosphere after Julie lost Billy to Masquerade, he pressures Marucho for information and then suggests ditching him while Marucho is also grieving the death of his friend, he tries bossing Shun around and then tells him to leave when Shun refuses to listen to him, and so on.

Dan eventually does apologize to Shun after Drago talked some sense into him, but he doesn't apologize to Marucho for his behavior. And speaking of Drago, I think this conversation he had with Dan in episode 20 perfectly encapsulates one of Dan’s flaws, namely that he wants people to understand his feelings, but he doesn’t make the effort to understand theirs.

Dan is socially inept at best and selfish at worst, and I know most people will write off his behavior as being the result of his age, but then I urge you to consider: what’s his excuse in MS1 when he’s at the cusp of adulthood? What about everyone else in his friend group who, mind you, are the same age as him and still show basic understanding and courtesy toward someone who’s mourning the loss of a loved one? I’m not saying it’s bad to have character flaws (if addressed), I’m just saying there’s nothing to excuse this behavior in Dan, but the usual justification is “well, he’s a kid. And kids are assholes sometimes.” Which is true but more often than not, Dan is the only asshole.

There’s also the matter of Dan’s actions usually being brushed under the rug while Runo is known for being a ranging bitch for doing not even half of what he’s done, but that’s neither here nor there.

The dysfunctionality in the Brawlers that span from episode 19 to episode 22 is both intriguing and aggravating. Dan starts it by pressuring Marucho into giving him information that he doesn’t have (Masquerade’s hideout) and then says they should leave Marucho behind, prompting Runo to argue with Dan in defense of Marucho. Julie gets involved as well, and they all split apart. Next episode, the rift between them is widened once again thanks to Dan, whose priorities doesn’t align with that of his friends. He not only gets into it with Runo and Marucho but with Shun as well, almost driving Shun away from the team. Next episode, there’s an awkward tension between Dan, Runo and Marucho but somehow the issues shift to Dan and Runo who apologize to each other and Marucho receives no apology from Dan.

Dan’s apology to Runo ultimately means nothing from a narrative standpoint because it fails to convey his lack of consideration toward Marucho’s feelings, which was the whole reason all this discord within the team even began. By comparison, his apology to Shun in episode 20 was much better executed and thoughtful, which is baffling because this is the sincere and heartfelt apology that Dan should’ve given to Shun in episode 13 but for some reason, he’s giving it now when it’s not really all that warranted? And Marucho is left with zilch. Cool.

I’m sure that at this point, there’s probably a lot of you saying “Oh my God, you’re being way too critical of Dan. Insensitive? Unempathetic? You’re obviously forgetting how nice Dan was being to Alice when she struggled to tell everyone that Michael was her grandfather! Or the time Dan was being super understanding toward Runo when she decided to quit Bakugan! You’re just trying to make him look bad!”

And yes, those scenes did happen. But personally, they never made any sense to me because of how contradictory they were.

You’re telling me that Dan is able to accept Alice’s reluctance to share critical information with the group—information that was extremely important in their search for the Infinity Core—when he didn’t extend the same courtesy to Marucho the day after he lost Preyas?

You’re telling me that Dan could easily accept Runo quitting Bakugan with absolutely no reason given—while they were on a quest to evolve their Bakugan—but Shun distancing himself from the game because his mom died before Masquerade had even showed up is an unforgivable act?

Anyhow, it's time for the trials! Dan’s trial starts off unclear but in a similar fashion to Masquerade’s fights against the top ranked Battlers, Dan has to defeat his team to get Drago to evolve.

It’s possible that the clown suits reflected Dan’s view of his friends, namely that he doesn’t take their strength seriously as Battlers, or something similar. It could also be foreshadowing Masquerade’s true identity: The first clown was evading Dan’s attempts at demasking them until Dan won the battle and took their mask off, only to find out he had been battling a friend all along.

Dan’s later trial of facing and defeating his friends severely lacks any and all tension because while everyone else has (1) trump card, Dan has two. He only seems to display any personal growth during his battles with Julie and Shun: Julie intentionally puts herself in a position where she could end up hurt if Dan unleashes his finishing move, seeking to test his resolve to win at any cost and berating Dan when he doesn’t take their fight seriously. Shun likewise chastises Dan when he’s been knocked down, asking if this is the extent of his resolve to save Vestroia and where their rivalry ends.

Dan ultimately proves them wrong and beats them, with him and Drago reaffirming their bond as partners in their battle against Shun and Skyress, the pair who arguably has the closest bond out of the whole group. The other matches weren’t really anything worth writing about because Dan doesn’t learn anything and there’s nothing to be excited about since Dan has a fusion ability card that automatically lets him win.

These battles could’ve been what separated Dan’s trial from Masquerade’s power-hungry quest—Masquerade used his minions as nothing but steppingstones to achieve ultimate power but by battling his friends, Dan could’ve learned something from each of them that helped him mature or grow smarter in battle, something unique from each of them that he could take with him in his final battle with Masquerade. Maybe Dan could’ve defeated his friends as a result of knowing their strategies and personalities intimately, something that would also prove how much he knows about each of them. But alas, that’s not what actually happened.

His personal trial was, in my opinion, a wasted opportunity to showcase his growth, especially when Julie, Marucho and Shun had such meaningful lessons that helped them overcome their issues with self-esteem, self-loathing, and self-isolation.

Nevertheless, Dan comes out of his trial with a renewed sense of determination and the will to fight for Earth and Vestroia alongside his friends. That already shows how far he’s come since the first few episodes.

Dan vs Masquerade also shows Dan stressing the seriousness of their current situation and urging Masquerade to stop doing Naga’s bidding. I like how, in a fun little reversal of episode 2, Dan is the one to remind Masquerade how fun Bakugan can be as merely a game.

This is getting long-winded LMAO and I don’t really think there’s much else to comment on in this final stretch of episodes. There’s a moment where Dan randomly makes a comment about the park where he and Runo met as toddlers but somehow, he kept messing up her name when they met in real life later on lol. If he remembered that, then it HAD to be because Fafnir showed him Runo’s trial. I don’t believe he would remember it on his own.

There’s also a moment in the final battle against Naga where everyone rallies around Dan, and he realizes that he’s not fighting by himself and there’s a nice little message about the power of friendship. Very cool. Wish this had stuck throughout the entire show but Oh Well.

The ending scene with Dan and Runo going on a date would’ve been superb if Dan hadn’t demonstrated his lack of social awareness yet again by commenting on Runo’s weight but I guess that’s asking for the impossible.

Even so, you’re definitely left with the feeling of Dan having grown up throughout the season and changed into something resembling a leader. At the very least, he seems to care more about others.

But then, uh, season 2 happens.

Fun Facts About Benkei Hanawa

His given name, Benkei, is an homage to Saitō Musashibō Benkei, a warrior monk depicted as strong, tall, and loyal. He is a popular subject of Japanese folklore.

Benkei himself is taller than most characters in addition to being extremely devoted to Kyoya.

His hat features a red bull skull, hinting at him later receiving and owning Dark Bull.

Before Bull, he had a generic Bey called Clay Cetus with the Leone energy ring.

Ironically, he is very loyal to Kyoya, just like Wales and Sophie (the Cetus owners) are to Julian.

He is the only member of the original group that doesn’t have any change of clothes in Metal Fury.

Like Yu, Tsubasa, and Hikaru, his Bey didn’t receive an upgrade or an evolution.

Like many characters in the Beyblade franchise, Benkei used a mask to conceal his identity as the "Masked Bull," though he was not really successful since his friends recognized him right away.

This makes him the second character in the series to adopt a new identity, following Ryusei Hagane, who became Phoenix.

He is the only member of Team Wild Fang who didn’t go through the selection process.

He is also the only member who didn’t use a defense Bey with the 145 track, though, like Nile and Damure, he uses a variant of the D performance type (SD: Semi-Defense).

After he joined Team Wild Fang, half of it became composed of Japanese blader.

Benkei was the fifth blader with the most points in the selection for the Japanese team, making him one of the strongest bladers in Japan at the time. It also means that he was close to enter the second part of the selection, only having 30 points less than Yu.

His original aim was to go to the championship with Kyoya as his teammate, though Kyoya didn’t become a member of GanGan Galaxy. Instead, they both joined Wild Fang, meaning Benkei was ultimately successful in his goal.

Considering Wild Fang’s battle plan (sending Nile first, then Kyoya), it is safe to assume that Benkei only battled once in the championship along with Damure during the match against Team Japan.

In Battle Bladers, he was originally set to battle Kenta in the second round. However, this was later changed by Daidoji, making Kyoya Benkei’s opponent. Ultimately, Benkei and Kyoya had an intense battle, and he was happy about it.

During their fight, Bull’s spirit briefly gains a golden armor, which looks similar to the equipment spirit in Zero-G possessed.

This makes Bull the first purely animal spirit to use some kind of equipment or object.

He refers to Kyoya as "Kyoya-san" in Japanese, which shows his deep respect and loyalty to him.

He is the third character from the previous seasons of Metal Fight Beyblade that we see in the Zero-G anime and the third one we see as an adult. The first being Tsubasa and the second is Madoka.

He is the manager of the Bull Burger restaurant, which is owned by Kyoya’s company, TC.

Benkei has the habit of tightly hugging whoever is close to him in moments of joy or when he becomes passionate about something.

Dark Bull was able to create holes resembling the head of a bull, thanks to his H145 (Horn 145) track.

This track is one of the few part from Metal Fusion that hasn’t been owned by any other character in the anime.

Dark Bull was given to him by Daidoji, though he loves his Bey very much.

Like Dark Wolf, Bull is a balance type, using the Dark Fusion Wheel, and its name is the English word describing what the Bey represents.

In most of the dubs, he says "B-b-b-b-b-b-bull!" as a recurring catchphrase when he's excited.

In Metal Fusion, he battled Ryuga twice: the first time was during a tournament with 98 other bladers (which serves as a parallel to when Gingka battled 100 bladers, including Benkei, in episode 1). The second time was when he confronted Ryuga after the latter had injured Kyoya in Battle Bladers. They also briefly clashed in Metal Fury when Ryuga arrived at Nemesis’s temple.

In the manga, it was against Benkei that L-Drago evolved into Lightning L-Drago.

The only other character that owns a Bull Beyblade is the representative of Spain, who has Evil Bull.

During his battle against Yu and Tsubasa, Bull struggled with the sand traps but got through by riding Scorpio, despite both having similar tips (D and SD). Meanwhile, Poison Serpent, also using SD, was unaffected, supposedly because scorpions and snakes thrive in sand.

Bull is red since, which corresponds to the color attributed to balance types Beyblades by Takara Tomy. Each member of the original group (Gingka, Kenta, Benkei, and Kyoya) has a Beyblade colored according to their respective types.

When Dynamis explained how the Legendary Bladers were chosen, Benkei thought he could be the Legendary Blader of Winter since Bull represents Taurus, a winter constellation. Had he been one, and considering Kenta later acquired the title, all four types of bey would have been represented.

Ironically, the real Legendary Blader of Winter, Chris, owns a reddish Bey called Phantom Orion.

Gingka and the rest didn’t think of Benkei for the spot but instead believed Masamune actually had a chance. Coincidentally, both of their Beys represent horned animals.

Benkei is the first antagonist Gingka brings to his side.

In Zero-G, he explains how he trained Kenta to Zyro Kurogane, he even becomes his coach and later trains multiple other bladers.

At the beginning of Metal Fusion, he seems to recognize Beys before they were introduce, such as with Dark Wolf and Dark Bull.

The character he battled the most is Kyoya Tategami.

LORE BOMB TIME!

For those who don’t know or need a reminder, Nomad / Zan’to is the Clan Leader of The Nomad Clan he inherited through Bloodline rights. He is too young to be such a leader but only took up the position because 1.) the og leader, Drago, didn’t want the position anymore & 2.) it was his way of getting back to being a honorable Yautja when he was exiled due to this bloodline discovery.

As he continued to go on death defying missions to gain reputation for the clan, handed to him by The Council of Elders. Due to this, his body began to ache and his mind began to crumble at times. He is forced to do these tasks mostly alone for anyone who had honorable status when joining the clan, would ultimately lose it due to affiliation or aiding a listed Bad Blood (which Nomad is not or doesn’t claim to be).

So one day after a bounty completed, Nomad made his way onto the Nomad Clan Mothership, carrying the head of a Bad Blood. He didn’t speak or acknowledge his Allie’s, only moving forward in a sort of trance. Some try to check if he is wounded as he’s covered in blood but Black Momba ( @black-suns-rim OC and creator of the comic) ( Black Momba is Nomads adoptive mother) steps in saying how “it’s not his blood”. Nomad would walk to his quarters to see Snow ( @wolfsnowphoenix OC), who greets him at first but then realizes that he’s having “THAT” moment wrestling in his mind. Snow would slowly lead Nomad by his hand in their washing chambers.

She would strip off his armor till he was fully bare, and slowly began washing off the blood of the Bad Blood he killed, there she would also see Nomads growing scars, all of which were earned to redeem the clan. While not the most ideal way to spend time with his mate, Nomad enjoyed these quiet and simple moments with Snow. When she finished she would hug Nomad with his head resting against hers, when finished she then lead him to their bed to retire for the day.

Fake Fic Title: Where the Water Takes Us

Okay I was SO stumped on this one for a second until my brain aggressively told me that this was about Venice, so.........it's a Clannigram AU apparently, I don't make the rules jfkld;safd Will Graham is chosen as the FBI liaison on loan to the Italian government and sent to the shining city of Venice to help them track down a killer they've dubbed "Il Drago." As he's not officially FBI, he has very reluctantly agreed to pose as "assistant" to an agent fresh out of training -- one Clarice Starling. They butt heads frequently -- she's too eager to prove herself, and he's too used to working alone to want anyone in his way -- and through their struggles, they find unlikely assistance from the caretaker of the Palazzo Capponi in Florence -- one Christian Fell. Neither knowing that this is the alias for murderer, cannibal, and FBI Most Wanted List veteran Hannibal Lecter. He's fascinated by this case, helping unriddle Il Drago's macabre tests with his knowledge of Italian folklore and history. They have to navigate their own differences and a growing attraction between their little team, acclimating to a dynamic and a country that none are truly native to. And all the while, they're racing against the clock to catch this killer before the festival of Carnivale, where Il Drago has promised to ensure that thousands will end up dead in the canals before the night is over.

Another project that I've been meaning to get done is finally finished and it's my Baldur's Gate 3 Rival OCs :3 Eurydice is the High Elf High Priestess of Eldath who Jouxia has a soft spot for.

Orandi is the High Elf Paladin of Tyr who has vowed to bring an end to the terror Maleficia and her patron are unleashing on Faerun.

Jaskier is the Drow Bard who is Aurora's beloved fiancé, and after escaping from being sacrificed to Lolth he hopes to quickly find and reunite with her.

Shizukesa is the Half Elf High Priestess of Selune who is grateful that Tigran saved her from being held prisoner by Shar.

Ivor is the Air Genasi Rouge who is bent of enacting revenge on those who wronged him, but slowly starts to falter thanks to Buttercup rambling about the potions she loves making.

Drakaina is the Sapphire Gem Dragonborn Sorceress dubbed as the "Dragoness of Mourning" due to the loss of her husband, but her broken heart begins to heal thanks to Valedy.

Cupid is the Archfey Cleric who has plans to become one of the ruling members of the Seele Court, but he wishes to share his throne once he achieves it with Blitzen, who he sees fit to become his consort.

Eirini is the "Human" Wizard that is childhood friends with Tommie, but his true feelings are overshadowed by the looming threat of the entity that threatens to bring ruin to the universe itself...

Ngl, I'm truly interested in your thoughts about how Imperialism/Imperialist was handled in Bakugan series (i think not so good)

i think you're going to have to be specific on which aspects you'd like a deep dive focus on because there is... a lot lol. and i do think generally it's done in a very shallow way.

i've talked a bit here on the way bakugan's capitalist inceptions impacts the way viewers are intended to see the bakugan (an oppressed class) and how their oppression and subsequent liberation is written. because of the background of the show, bakugan are never able to just exist by themselves, there always has to be a humanoid partner that the audience can self-insert into and imagine that they're the ones with fantastic monsters in order to sell toys. season 1 is only a bit more forgivable in this sense because the finale ends not with the brawlers dictating the attacks of the bakugan but with the major bakugan characters making attacks on their own, and with the bakugan being free of needing human control. it's not perfect, but it's the best in that regard especially compared to new vestroia.

in general i think new vestroia is the worst when dealing with the topic of imperialism in a way that liberates the oppressed class. it puts too much focus on the resistance vestals and the vexos to focus on the bakugan. the bakugan are relegated as mere background characters to the story of their own liberation. it fails to put the focus on the bakugan in a story where their freedom is what's being highlighted. the most you get is some parts with drago, maybe a few with elfin, and that one scene with ingram which was misogynistic towards skyress anyway. percival and nemus are never talked about outside of ace and baron's own personal struggles, and wilda (in the japanese dub especially) hardly has any personality and only exists to enable mira.

while i do like the s2 villains and how they can easily be interpreted as manifestations of the rot inside the imperialist vestal monarchy (incestuous subtext between spectra and mira included. i am fermincest truther and yes its execution was ridiculous but i like a critical gothic reading of it), the fact that this takes up so much of s2 while the bakugan get next to nothing on their own is frustrating.

s3 also falls into this trap with the neathians and the gundalians which i've touched a bit on here. it makes it so people usually fall into the trap of "umm neathians shouldve helped them maybe they wouldnt have gotten invaded if they did" which is also equally frustrating lol

daenerys targaryen: the house of usurpers au. on another platform i've written on, i had this au for dany and want to bring it back here.

tldr and heavily fudging details for sake of making it work: aerys targaryen is a cousin of viserys i targaryen and he dubbed himself king of a smaller kingdom. when word of his treachery had spread, the 'mad king' had been killed, his land absorbed into the seven kingdoms, and his two remaining children not slain during the uprising had been taken in as his wards. her brother viserys had been whispering in her ear that their birthright had been stolen from them and they were merely caged in the keep. word had gotten out about viserys' ungratefulness and as punishment, daenerys had been sent off to essos where she was arranged to wed khal drago. in this case, her history semi-follows like her main verse and she eventually hatches 3 eggs and works towards building up an army -- so one day she may reclaim what she believes is rightfully hers since her father's own kingdom had been stripped from their family. she and her supporters are known as the reds. when she does return to westeros, her presence becomes known but she's hardly a match to reckon with as her dragons are too young and she hasn't enough supporters in westeros. viserion dies first, followed by rhaegal. daenerys dies in battle riding drogon.

this au is broken up in two: whether she grows up with rhaenyra and alicent, or alicent's children. regardless of who she grows up with, the outcome is the same. she feels wronged after suffering due to her brother's foolishness and his words stuck with her. if she must suffer, then something must be gained from it. and because i don't want her presence altering the main canon, sadly she must die.

TLDR; I think on paper, his redemption arc was fine, in execution— not so much. The process was okay, but the turnaround was too quick and dramatic to really feel earned and I think he just need the slightest smidge of more time to get it ironed out.

The thing you have to keep in mind about New Vestroia is that it moves an incredibly brisk pace. If you watch very closely then you’ll see that there are a lot of plot points that were raised and either quickly resolved to get it out of the way, or forgotten altogether. Spectra’s redemption is the former, while Ace’s character arc is the latter. So when we enter discussion about how something would theoretically be fixed, you can’t plausibly give an elaborate idea because there just wouldn’t be time for that and retaining everything else that happens in the allotted runtime of the show.

The most obvious explanation for his redemption given via the show is that he came to the realization that he just simply wasn’t strong enough to overcome Zenoheld and Dan, no matter what he did to Helios, and realized that Zenoheld is the bigger threat and therefore it’s better for everyone if he joins up with Dan. We see this in small increments before he joins up with them officially and I think that was a good choice because it eases us into the idea that he might not really be a bad guy later on if he can work with us. So okay, this is fine. But my problem with this is that it doesn’t really force him to re-examine the bad that he did while he was a villain. Had he just bullied a few kids I wouldn’t care, but he was actively torturing (and in the JP dub was implied to have killed) sentient creatures for his own goals. As it is, it seems like he didn’t really care about reforming as much as he just wanted to be on the winning side of things. It would be one thing if he was very open about the fact that he’s only in this for himself, but once he switches sides he acts like he’s a completely changed man and I just don’t buy that with this scenario.

It feels like he gains too much too quickly and doesn’t have that “come to Jesus” moment to warrant it. I feel like there needed to be at least one scene where he sort of unpacks everything he did, maybe one with Drago since he tortured him, and he understands the repercussions of his actions. He wasn’t just being mean to children, he actively ruined (and maybe ended) lives, this is just sort of swept aside.

Now I want to address that him feeling like he has to win this war isn’t the sole factor in him switching sides. While the feeling of powerlessness started this transition, I think the (subtler but maybe more important) nail in the coffin was losing Gus. There are a few wide shots of him alone that really stresses his loneliness, and this does make the sudden shift of him and Mira being best siblings ever make more sense because he would have been desperate for that relationship again. But I do think that everyone being willing to trust and be friends with him is just way too soon. The episode him losing to Dan ends, and then in the first two minutes of the next one, everyone is best friends with him. IIRC (and if I’m not then ignore this) there’s maybe one or two lines by some characters along the lines of “are we sure we want to trust him”, but those fears are really quickly assuaged by him being cooperative and nice, and I’m just needing more of that distrust.

If I was writing this arc, I would make very minimal changes to the lead up and aftermath of him switching. I would have one tiny scene before Gus vanishes of him contemplating how far he’s pushed Helios and he can’t go any further safely, because this plants a “fuck I ruined him too much” seed of doubt and gives leeway to reflection later. Then, instead of him being immediately hopeful after losing to Dan and taking off his mask, I’d show him being a little more apprehensive of his uncertain future. He doesn’t have to say anything, his face just needs to look a little uneasy. And then the last thing I would change is giving him a moment of reflection (whether it be by talking to Drago or Helios) that in his quest to be powerful, he might have been doing the wrong thing the whole time— because he’s now more powerful by having secure alliances/friendships and no one had to be hurt to do it. Maybe replace a couple of the “Omg guys Keith is so nice” lines from the cast with more discernible concern or distrust for good measure. I don’t think anything else would need to be changed. It would still be a little too quick, but I think it would feel more rewarding for him if very minimal adjustments were made to compensate him. If the show had all the time in the world then I’d have a thousand more suggestions, but if we’re keeping this arc as brief as possible to stick closely within the runtime of the show and not step on anything else happening in the plot, then I think this is a decent way to go about it.

So I like the ideas presented by the show, but it needed just a little more time to feel worth it.
