For those who don’t know or need a reminder, Nomad / Zan’to is the Clan Leader of The Nomad Clan he inherited through Bloodline rights. He is too young to be such a leader but only took up the position because 1.) the og leader, Drago, didn’t want the position anymore & 2.) it was his way of getting back to being a honorable Yautja when he was exiled due to this bloodline discovery.

As he continued to go on death defying missions to gain reputation for the clan, handed to him by The Council of Elders. Due to this, his body began to ache and his mind began to crumble at times. He is forced to do these tasks mostly alone for anyone who had honorable status when joining the clan, would ultimately lose it due to affiliation or aiding a listed Bad Blood (which Nomad is not or doesn’t claim to be).

So one day after a bounty completed, Nomad made his way onto the Nomad Clan Mothership, carrying the head of a Bad Blood. He didn’t speak or acknowledge his Allie’s, only moving forward in a sort of trance. Some try to check if he is wounded as he’s covered in blood but Black Momba ( @black-suns-rim OC and creator of the comic) ( Black Momba is Nomads adoptive mother) steps in saying how “it’s not his blood”. Nomad would walk to his quarters to see Snow ( @wolfsnowphoenix OC), who greets him at first but then realizes that he’s having “THAT” moment wrestling in his mind. Snow would slowly lead Nomad by his hand in their washing chambers.

She would strip off his armor till he was fully bare, and slowly began washing off the blood of the Bad Blood he killed, there she would also see Nomads growing scars, all of which were earned to redeem the clan. While not the most ideal way to spend time with his mate, Nomad enjoyed these quiet and simple moments with Snow. When she finished she would hug Nomad with his head resting against hers, when finished she then lead him to their bed to retire for the day.

Ngl, I'm truly interested in your thoughts about how Imperialism/Imperialist was handled in Bakugan series (i think not so good)

i think you're going to have to be specific on which aspects you'd like a deep dive focus on because there is... a lot lol. and i do think generally it's done in a very shallow way.

i've talked a bit here on the way bakugan's capitalist inceptions impacts the way viewers are intended to see the bakugan (an oppressed class) and how their oppression and subsequent liberation is written. because of the background of the show, bakugan are never able to just exist by themselves, there always has to be a humanoid partner that the audience can self-insert into and imagine that they're the ones with fantastic monsters in order to sell toys. season 1 is only a bit more forgivable in this sense because the finale ends not with the brawlers dictating the attacks of the bakugan but with the major bakugan characters making attacks on their own, and with the bakugan being free of needing human control. it's not perfect, but it's the best in that regard especially compared to new vestroia.

in general i think new vestroia is the worst when dealing with the topic of imperialism in a way that liberates the oppressed class. it puts too much focus on the resistance vestals and the vexos to focus on the bakugan. the bakugan are relegated as mere background characters to the story of their own liberation. it fails to put the focus on the bakugan in a story where their freedom is what's being highlighted. the most you get is some parts with drago, maybe a few with elfin, and that one scene with ingram which was misogynistic towards skyress anyway. percival and nemus are never talked about outside of ace and baron's own personal struggles, and wilda (in the japanese dub especially) hardly has any personality and only exists to enable mira.

while i do like the s2 villains and how they can easily be interpreted as manifestations of the rot inside the imperialist vestal monarchy (incestuous subtext between spectra and mira included. i am fermincest truther and yes its execution was ridiculous but i like a critical gothic reading of it), the fact that this takes up so much of s2 while the bakugan get next to nothing on their own is frustrating.

s3 also falls into this trap with the neathians and the gundalians which i've touched a bit on here. it makes it so people usually fall into the trap of "umm neathians shouldve helped them maybe they wouldnt have gotten invaded if they did" which is also equally frustrating lol

TLDR; I think on paper, his redemption arc was fine, in execution— not so much. The process was okay, but the turnaround was too quick and dramatic to really feel earned and I think he just need the slightest smidge of more time to get it ironed out.

The thing you have to keep in mind about New Vestroia is that it moves an incredibly brisk pace. If you watch very closely then you’ll see that there are a lot of plot points that were raised and either quickly resolved to get it out of the way, or forgotten altogether. Spectra’s redemption is the former, while Ace’s character arc is the latter. So when we enter discussion about how something would theoretically be fixed, you can’t plausibly give an elaborate idea because there just wouldn’t be time for that and retaining everything else that happens in the allotted runtime of the show.

The most obvious explanation for his redemption given via the show is that he came to the realization that he just simply wasn’t strong enough to overcome Zenoheld and Dan, no matter what he did to Helios, and realized that Zenoheld is the bigger threat and therefore it’s better for everyone if he joins up with Dan. We see this in small increments before he joins up with them officially and I think that was a good choice because it eases us into the idea that he might not really be a bad guy later on if he can work with us. So okay, this is fine. But my problem with this is that it doesn’t really force him to re-examine the bad that he did while he was a villain. Had he just bullied a few kids I wouldn’t care, but he was actively torturing (and in the JP dub was implied to have killed) sentient creatures for his own goals. As it is, it seems like he didn’t really care about reforming as much as he just wanted to be on the winning side of things. It would be one thing if he was very open about the fact that he’s only in this for himself, but once he switches sides he acts like he’s a completely changed man and I just don’t buy that with this scenario.

It feels like he gains too much too quickly and doesn’t have that “come to Jesus” moment to warrant it. I feel like there needed to be at least one scene where he sort of unpacks everything he did, maybe one with Drago since he tortured him, and he understands the repercussions of his actions. He wasn’t just being mean to children, he actively ruined (and maybe ended) lives, this is just sort of swept aside.

Now I want to address that him feeling like he has to win this war isn’t the sole factor in him switching sides. While the feeling of powerlessness started this transition, I think the (subtler but maybe more important) nail in the coffin was losing Gus. There are a few wide shots of him alone that really stresses his loneliness, and this does make the sudden shift of him and Mira being best siblings ever make more sense because he would have been desperate for that relationship again. But I do think that everyone being willing to trust and be friends with him is just way too soon. The episode him losing to Dan ends, and then in the first two minutes of the next one, everyone is best friends with him. IIRC (and if I’m not then ignore this) there’s maybe one or two lines by some characters along the lines of “are we sure we want to trust him”, but those fears are really quickly assuaged by him being cooperative and nice, and I’m just needing more of that distrust.

If I was writing this arc, I would make very minimal changes to the lead up and aftermath of him switching. I would have one tiny scene before Gus vanishes of him contemplating how far he’s pushed Helios and he can’t go any further safely, because this plants a “fuck I ruined him too much” seed of doubt and gives leeway to reflection later. Then, instead of him being immediately hopeful after losing to Dan and taking off his mask, I’d show him being a little more apprehensive of his uncertain future. He doesn’t have to say anything, his face just needs to look a little uneasy. And then the last thing I would change is giving him a moment of reflection (whether it be by talking to Drago or Helios) that in his quest to be powerful, he might have been doing the wrong thing the whole time— because he’s now more powerful by having secure alliances/friendships and no one had to be hurt to do it. Maybe replace a couple of the “Omg guys Keith is so nice” lines from the cast with more discernible concern or distrust for good measure. I don’t think anything else would need to be changed. It would still be a little too quick, but I think it would feel more rewarding for him if very minimal adjustments were made to compensate him. If the show had all the time in the world then I’d have a thousand more suggestions, but if we’re keeping this arc as brief as possible to stick closely within the runtime of the show and not step on anything else happening in the plot, then I think this is a decent way to go about it.

So I like the ideas presented by the show, but it needed just a little more time to feel worth it.

daenerys targaryen: the house of usurpers au. on another platform i've written on, i had this au for dany and want to bring it back here.

tldr and heavily fudging details for sake of making it work: aerys targaryen is a cousin of viserys i targaryen and he dubbed himself king of a smaller kingdom. when word of his treachery had spread, the 'mad king' had been killed, his land absorbed into the seven kingdoms, and his two remaining children not slain during the uprising had been taken in as his wards. her brother viserys had been whispering in her ear that their birthright had been stolen from them and they were merely caged in the keep. word had gotten out about viserys' ungratefulness and as punishment, daenerys had been sent off to essos where she was arranged to wed khal drago. in this case, her history semi-follows like her main verse and she eventually hatches 3 eggs and works towards building up an army -- so one day she may reclaim what she believes is rightfully hers since her father's own kingdom had been stripped from their family. she and her supporters are known as the reds. when she does return to westeros, her presence becomes known but she's hardly a match to reckon with as her dragons are too young and she hasn't enough supporters in westeros. viserion dies first, followed by rhaegal. daenerys dies in battle riding drogon.

this au is broken up in two: whether she grows up with rhaenyra and alicent, or alicent's children. regardless of who she grows up with, the outcome is the same. she feels wronged after suffering due to her brother's foolishness and his words stuck with her. if she must suffer, then something must be gained from it. and because i don't want her presence altering the main canon, sadly she must die.

Hello, MFB fandom. I wanted to talk about the most terrible adults in the Beyblade Metal Saga ever produced: Doji (Daidoji in the Japanese dub) and Ziggurat. The quotes I just cited are characteristic of how, in the show, characters like Ryuga and Ginga tend to see them as the same (people in real life tend to do that as well). However, despite some common points, they are much more different than they seem.

Same Way, Different Goals

The reason why they're often said to be the same is because of one major thing: the way they achieve their goals. To do that, they abuse the power of Beyblade and also children. Doji gives the Dark Nebula (DN) Bladers as a sacrifice to L-Drago despite their loyalty, as pointed out by Ryutarou. Ziggurat uses the students of HD Academy as test subjects, not only the members of team StarBreaker (SB). Of course, the amount of trauma and abuse they inflict is more complex than that, but it can give you an idea that they don't seem to care about the innocence and vulnerability of children. Ziggurat, in particular, seems to despise children for the former.

One thing that can be said is that they have very different end goals and visions. Doji wants to dominate the Beyblade world and the world in general through Ryuga. This fits particularly well with his character since he always used someone with more power than him to get what he wants: he is like a wolf that can survive without its pack. Doji's idea is not really original; with Ryuga's first appearance in episode 13 and his following fight with Ginga, we directly understood what he wants to do: use the dark and evil artifact to steal everyone's power and use this to rule the world. Ziggurat's worldview is more subtle; he says he wants to use Beyblade in order to take control of pre-existing institutions like governments. He is a CEO after all, who just wants to further increase his wealth and control over society. The spiral force he created (assuming everything went according to plan) could have changed the world forever, a world he could have controlled. Of course, those plans weren't safe at all. Doji had no way of containing Ryuga, and we all know what happened in the end. Faust was obedient as long as he was ordered to make Tempo spin. But imagine if they needed him to stop making the energy for maintenance (because buildings and nuclear reactors need that sometimes)...

The Scales and the Compass

To highlight better their capacity, we can see a little interaction they have. For Ziggurat, he has the most interaction with Zeo, who will defeat him in the end. For Doji, it would be Ryuga, but he was way too formal with him; in a way, he was closer to Yu Tendo. What is more interesting is that Yu and Zeo have parallels between them or rather they mirror each other. Yu is a prodigy, Zeo is not. Yu joined DN for fun and to be with his new friend Ryuga, Zeo joined HD Academy out of desperation for his oldest friend Toby. Yu seemingly had a nice relationship with Doji and in Masters, grew closer to Masamune. Zeo has a terrible working relationship with Ziggurat, and his friendship with Masamune was torpedoed during the SB arc. Kid Zeo looks similar to Yu, and Flame Libra and Byxis both represent objects. You could argue I'm off-topic, but Yu and Zeo are the best characters to understand the psychology of Doji and Ziggurat.

Doji gave various things to Yu, and he rarely gives something to people except false promises and punishment. Yu got an enviable position in DN, along with a room full of toys, the right to recruit and command other DN Bladers, and spend time with Doji. They even share an evil laugh together. And it appears Doji's behavior was beginning to influence Yu. Kenta even thought that they were friends. In reality, they were not. Doji is just a wolf in sheep's clothing. With every character, he acts nice and polite (it's especially true in the Japanese dub) but it is just a facade he made in order to deceive people. At the moment Yu stepped out of line, he changed his attitude. Look at his face right after Ginga and Yu's shake hands.

He threw the poor kid right into Reiji's fang, even though Yu opened his heart to him by telling him how he felt about Beyblade. He understood that his corruption of Yu was eventually going to wear off. He did not even "offer Yu" to Ryuga; no, he was just being petty.. For him, it was as if Ginga had stolen one of his best toys, and so Yu had to be disposed of in the cruelest way possible. To me, their relationship was the most sinister in the whole show because it reflects something real: people pretending to be what they aren't to trap teens/children.

Ziggurat took advantage of Zeo. The way he appeared on a rainy day close to a road is for me reminiscent of the Devil. In fact, he could be inspired by the biblical devil. His Bey represents Capricorn, a goat who was commonly associated with the devil. He leads Hades Inc., has a child named Damian at his service (like the antichrist of The Omen movie), and most importantly of all, he makes contracts and deals. He made a deal with Zeo: "Do my experiment and I will cure your friends." In a way, he did; he cured Toby. Zeo even got stronger, participated in the World Championship, and got a new shiny Bey. But like a contract with the devil, it's all fake: Toby became someone else, Zeo didn't really bond with Flame Byxis, he became crazy because of a painful process that worked half the time for him... Unlike Doji, Ziggurat seemingly gives a lot to those who work with him, but he takes more in return. Ziggurat doesn't hide this; he was even proud of what he did to Toby. He also doesn't shy away from putting down Zeo and even taunted Ryuga about his loss of control to the dark power. And that's because, unlike Doji, he has something for himself. Doji needs other people to get what he wants, Ziggurat has money and his intellect; he can choose who he is working with. That is why Doji recruits Tetsuya; even if he loses, he can still use him to make L-Drago stronger. The doctor recruited only powerful Bladers he could control (blackmail for Julian and money for the Garcias) and threat them and Zeo as pawn.

In the end, these men work very differently with very different objectives. Doji is a power-hungry man who lives only for power and himself. He uses others to gain as much as possible, and if they are not enough, he squeezes the (orange) juice out of them. Ziggurat is an evil scientist and billionaire seeking to enrich himself and gain more influence. Both were corrupted by the power of Bey, and no wonder they were part of the Hades cult.

(Some of) My retrospective grievances Bakugan

I loved Bakugan growing up--and for the most part, the first two seasons hold up. That said, I did want to mention things about the series that I wish they'd done better. Some of it's nit-picks, and some of it is stuff that really annoyed me. I don't recall everything, so be sure to let me know if I misremembered some things!

There's NO WAY Dan, Shun, and Runo were 11 years old (in the Japanese version; they were 12 in the English version, which is still unbelievable to me). I'd buy that everyone on the team was 16-18 and Marucho was 12.

I wish the parents and more adults in general were more involved in Bakugan. Magical creatures and cards that put you in another dimension fall from the sky and it's mostly just young people who use them? It feels like parents would at least be more concerned about what's going on, but Dan's parents aren't super involved--heck, I remember being surprised that he had a dad! That's something we never see from Yugi (whose dad is always on a business trip) and Ash (whose dad is a mystery).

Terrible treatment t of female characters. Julie, Alice, and Runo were great members of the team, but they were essentially removed from the show in season 2 because Drago only wanted to involve Dan. That'd be fine, but Marucho tagged along too, and Shun found his way there, too--and the male/female ratio was thrown off enormously, because we got a lot of new male characters, and very few new female characters.

Give more information on the location of the characters. Julie is from Australia and Alice is from Russia. Aside from missing accents, I'd have liked to have seen how Bakugan affected the different countries/cultures.

More backstories for the characters. I recall Shun's backstory and how it ties into his relationship with Skyress, but everyone else deserves that, too--plus it'd be neat to see how his traditional background (with his grandfather being a ninja) affecting his relationship with Marucho, who comes from a rich and modern family, as well as his friendship with Dan, who is also more modern.

Too many side characters who don't return for season 2 onwards. I always hated that we had fun characters like Chan Lee, Billy, and Klaus who are just written off later. It would've been fun to see them become bigger characters as the show went on rather than smaller ones.

Marucho and Shun keep getting new Bakugan. I'd have enjoyed it if the original 6 Bakugan returned to the team and they got Bakugan as well--namely because Ingram and Elfin were the only good "replacement" Bakugan for Marucho and Shun. The girls can just have their OG bakugan like Dan, or they could have two (their OG and a new one) like Shun and Marucho--though I guess technically Marucho would have 3 because of Angelo/Diablo.

Why is it that only some Bakugan can talk while the rest only let out animalistic? I kinda wish they all could talk, as well as not having duplicate bakugan with different elements.

The Vexos needed more backstories and didn't have to die. For a kids' show, this felt like a needlessly grim fate for them--and an annoying one if you grew up with the English dub, since they're just lost in another dimension rather than dead. It's Yu-Gi-Oh all over again--except the original and 5Ds had every right to be that dark. They could've just been imprisoned and we could've learned about more of them outside of Spectra and Gus. I really loved Lync and Alice, as well as Shadow and Mylene's chemistry, as well as the parallels between Volt and Baron.

Ingram's gender. This is more of a dub issue. To my understanding, Ingram is male, though in the dub, he was referred to as female for the first half of the anime with a female voice actor, and then male in the later half with a male voice actor. I'd be fine if he was NB or genderfluid, though if I had to pick between male and female, I'd prefer if he was male, given that Shun already had Skyress as a mother-figure, and Ingram could represent Shun's insecurities.

No one's gonna explain that moment between Drago and Percival in episode 26 of "New Vestroia"? That's the most surprising rivalry-turned-(almost) romance I've ever seen.

"Gundalion Invaders" was basically "New Vestroia" but with less interesting characters.

The hungarian dub of bakugan is such a weird thing because it uses both the japanese and english versions to create it's own mess. Lines are completely changed, scenes lose context, characters keep saying odd bs... it's got everything! Some scenes even have editing errors,

such as:

> characters talking even after the scene ended, cutting into the next one's dialouge

> istg they just took the soundtrack and randomly shuffled it at some points

It does have some great moments though:

sometimes i think about this scene in the dub thats only available in the extended version where shun is saying goodbye to skyress before she and the others go back to vestroia w drago and hes crying and it makes me emotional every time. why did the writers of this show like making him suffer every chance they can get goddamn.

mr frohicky’s va could’ve somewhat worked if the va put in a bit more energy like the character was. i didn’t mind how different it sounds to the original but since the character just displays so much energy it would’ve sounded better

okay now that the va stuff is done, the script sounds a bit too direct this time. i really wanna know just how it works for the arabic translation team because to me it seems like everything is done in the span of around 2 days! this is smth i’ve noticed in the past with the arabic dubs for ninja//go in which the vas seemingly go into it without knowing ANYTHING about their character and just figuring it out and shifting their tone a bit the more they read from the script (u can hear it with rapton too with his first appearance in the episode)

It was silent and peaceful. Honestly, it wasn't anything new to you, but at the same time, you've never experienced peace with someone before, and it felt much different than the other peace kind.

"hey guys," Kitty called out, and you noticed that the fleet had stopped. You frowned and stood up, rolling your shoulders and lashing your tail "what is wrong, Kitty?" you asked, coming up to her as you saw that she stood on the river bank Puss beside her. "something is moving behind those trees," she said.

You narrowed your eyes at the colorful trees she pointed to, and soon you heard it, too. A growl rumbled in your throat. You felt your claws coil into the earth and wings spreading. "get ready for a fight," you murmured and reached out to grab Perro, but he ran away before you could snatch him, not safety. "Doiggie!" you called after him, wings failing open in surprise and fear.

But before he could get farther, a cackle pierced the air, and a hand reached down, grabbed the poor puppy, and lifted him to a face. Chubby-tinted cheeks, strange hair, and, in all, an ugly man was gripping your puppy. You growled and slowly revealed your teeth in a snarl. Puss and Kitty were just the same.

"ah, seems like I've finally found you, dragoness. You have come out at last. Finally, a dragon can join my collections of magical things after all these years. The butt, of course, is just one step stone to the star after all." the man says and smirks towards you, but you throw him a nasty shortcut roar that shakes the eardrums of those mortals he has with him.

"give the puppy back," Kitty hissed, unsheathing her sword. The man snorts and aims a unicorn bow toward him "hah, now, little cat. I think not. Give me the dragoness, and you'll have this rabid dog back. Give her not, and I will shoot him" Puss and Kitty shared galcnmes, and you sighed, stepping down.

"what are you doing?!" Puss yelped and reached toward you, but you swatted his hand away from your tail "doing what is right," you said and dipped your head as you walked toward the man, who smirked even wider.

But just as his goons started closing in aorund you, your eyes widened and teeth bared. You gave a monster's roar, snapped your jaws open, reared your head back, and spilled hot fire onto your enemies. It took little time for them to take fire and start screaming.

In the chaos, Puss and Kitty saw an uppercut, and they charged data Jack distracting him long enough for Perro to escape.

He did and ran into Puss's arms. They all then turned to see you still spewing your doom upon these men. In the end, in the middle of the field that was still burning, you locked your eyes upon your last target: jack. "you took something of mine. You threatened my pup. You have dealt this to yourself, ugly mortal," you snarled and flung your wings open, and in one pounce, you were atop the man pinning him to the ground and digging sharp claws into his chest.

Jack screamed bloody murder, but no one came to help him, and soon he was nobody else than a bloody pulp on the ground, clothes tattered and torn. You huffed as yous stepped off him, and your friends came warily toward you.

"hey... Y/n. it's okay. He's gone, and we're your friend,s," Puss says,s; calmy his paws reach toward you as you turn your head toward him, jaws bloodied and dripping with blood. You looked more like a monster now than that human he met in the bar that day.

The eerie stillness that followed his words made a chill rise on his spine. He smiled feverously "see, we do not want to hurt you. come with us, Y/n. we are all together now. let us go and get that star, hmm?" a growl dubbed in your throat, and you rasped out. "I... Am... not finished. I... need... to burn...." you shook your head and clawed at your temples. Something was happening.

"uh, puss?" Perioti asked, growing worried for you. "stay back, Perro, Kitty," he warned and stepped closer, but you still shook your head furiously. Then, when he was an inch from your face, your snaped teeth snapped just an inch away from his paw, arm, and cheek.

"no." you snarled lowly, "no more friends. no more.... saving.... only me. i... am too dangerous," the killer glint disparaged slowly like a torch flickering to a stop, and you whimpered. You started to draw yourself back, and Puss grew panched "no, no, you're still with us, dont worry!" he called, and you shook your head. "No puss. I really snapped this time. I'm not safe. Go on without me. Its... its really been a pleasure. Puss in Boots," you bit your lip to hold in your sobs and spread your wings, giving the ginger cat one last sad look, then took off into the air, spirling like a broken record and shooting off into the distance.

Saturday Scissor Series

I recently posted a video clip of a Bearhug scene featuring a Beefcake named Drago putting the squeeze on a rather submissive QT Marshall. In my notes for that video, I mentioned that I had dubbed in some audio from a BG East video to cover some annoying chants by the audience in the original video.

To my surprise, one of my loyal readers actually recognized the voice of underground wrestler Lane Hartley in my brief audio dub, from the moment when we hear Lane ask his victim: "How's it feel?" (@ 1:19 remaining in today's video clip.)

So I informed this impressive reader (who may be even more obsessed with gay wreste-porn than I ?!) that it was, in fact, Lane Hartley's voice he heard. The audio clip used in my Bearhug video is from BG East's Fantasymen 35 video where Lane destroys Brad Barnes with numerous gut-crushing stomach assaults. In fact, it was actually a Bodyscissor by Lane -- not a Bearhug -- that inspired all that groaning and grunting, but I felt the sound worked great with Drago's rib-shattering embrace so I used it as my audio overlay.
