Dual-SIM heißt nicht, dass man zwei SIMs ins Handy tun kann

Vor dem Kauf des neuen Handys habe ich nachgesehen, ob darin auch Platz für zwei SIM-Karten ist. "Dual-SIM", hat die Fairphone-Seite versichert. Warum mir das wichtig ist, steht hier genauer, die Kurzfassung: Mein unbegrenztes mobiles Internet kommt aus einer anderen SIM-Karte als der, die ich seit 2014 für alle Anmeldevorgänge verwendet habe, die eine Telefonnummer erfordern.

Ich nehme das nadelartige Werkzeug aus meinem Gepäck, das ich zum Öffnen von SIM-Karten-Schublädchen verwende. Aber ich brauche es gar nicht. Beim Fairphone nimmt man wieder die Rückseite ab und den Akku raus, um dann die SIM-Karte dort einzubauen, werkzeuglos, so wie bei meinen Handys von ganz früher. ("Ganz früher" ist eine fürs Techniktagebuch eigentlich zu vage Angabe. Aber ich weiß es nicht mehr. Wahrscheinlich endete diese Zeit vor meinem ersten Smartphone oder kurz danach, also vielleicht so um 2008 oder 2010.)

Leider ist an dieser bequem erreichbaren Stelle nur ein einziger Slot für eine SIM. Die zweite darf keine physische Karte sein, es ist eine eSIM. Das habe ich in meiner hastigen Handygier übersehen.

Vorläufig muss ich also das zehn Jahre alte Nexus 4 als Wohnort der zweiten SIM-Karte mit mir herumtragen, damit ich ein Gerät habe, das die immer noch zahlreichen "wir haben Ihnen eine PIN an die hinterlegte Telefonnummer geschickt"-Nachrichten empfangen kann. Dass es nur noch Edge kann, stört dabei ja nicht, der Vorgang kommt ganz ohne Internet aus.

Bei meinem letzten Nachdenken über Dual-SIM-Handys 2021 hatte noch keiner meiner drei wichtigsten Prepaid-Anbieter eSIMs im Angebot. Freenet FUNK (die SIM, aus der mein unlimitiertes Internet kommt) bietet sie immer noch nicht an, EE in Großbritannien auch nicht, jedenfalls nicht für Prepaid-Karten. Aber bei AldiTalk (die historische SIM mit der überall eingetragenen Nummer) kann man inzwischen die physische Karte gegen eine eSIM tauschen, wenn man bereit ist, dafür beim Kundenservice anzurufen. Das sollte ich sowieso mal machen, denn es ist ein Wunder, dass diese 2014 gekaufte, 2016 eigenhändig krumm und schief von Micro auf Nano verkleinerte und schon sehr zerkratzte Karte, an der meine wichtigsten Identitätsvorgänge hängen, überhaupt noch funktioniert.

My apologies for the absence! I feel like a broken record saying this, but I keep entering different phases of 'settling into life' (went through a massive change in my personal life last year), and then every time I get to 'Ah, all is calm now', something else happens. Well if your number is on your website then technically you "gave" your phone number to everyone not just Jim right? Unless it's a super secret phone number?

I obviously have 2 phone numbers. One for cases that is openly available on my website so people can consult me. And another private phone number just for personal use, for the people I know personally.
