When this happened, usually Urban would still be awake so you would go and bother him but when you peeked into his room he was also knocked out cold.

Then your mind suddenly decided to run rampant with your thoughts which was the last thing you needed.

You turned over to look at Jack and called out to him since you had been facing away from him as he had his arm wrapped around you.

"Baby?" You said as you poked his cheek.

Silence.

"Smush?" Now you booped his nose.

Silence.

"Pookie?" You started playing with his beard and could see him moving indicating that he was finally awake.

Jack didn't open his eyes to look at you, but he did hear you and immediately answered,

"Yes, baby? Something wrong?"

It took Jack a few seconds for his mind to register what you had just asked him, but when it did, he opened his eyes to look at you.

"Ba.... what?"

"Would you still love me if I was a worm? I need to know." You asked again and Jack was just looking at you like you were crazy.

"You woke me up at 2 in the morning to ask me that?"

"Yes, because I couldn't sleep. This is very important and I'm going to need for you to take this seriously. Urban is sleeping so I'll ask him later when he wakes up."

"You better not ask him that dumb ass shit and you shouldn't have even asked me! How the hell could I have married you if you were a worm? Explain that."

"Oh, so your answer is no."

His Dua to Allah Ajwajal to save his wife

As he fell into sujood, the tears that he had held back finally spilled over, sobs wracking his body. His forehead pressed to the ground, he let his grief pour out before his Creator, raw and unfiltered.

"Ya Allah," he whispered, his voice trembling, "I am Your servant, here today asking for the life of my wife. The doctor says..." He paused, struggling to speak. "They say she doesn't want to live, Ya Allah. They say she's dying. But I don't want her to die. I want her to live—live with me, live happily."

He choked back a sob, pressing his forehead harder against the ground.

"Ya Allah, I have made so many mistakes. You made me her qawwam—her protector—and I failed her. Forgive me, Ya Allah, for You are the Most Forgiving. Shower me with Your mercy." Tears brimmed over as he continued, "I have sinned countless times, knowingly and unknowingly. Forgive me, my Rabb. Forgive me for every single one."

He remembered the Prophet ﷺ's words, and his voice softened, almost a whisper.

"Our beloved Prophet ﷺ said, 'Allah is more merciful to His servants than a mother is to her child.' Ya Allah, Your mercy knows no bounds. I call upon that mercy now, begging You to make my wife well again."

A small spark of hope flared within him, and he clung to it desperately.

"I once donated to the orphanage for Your sake alone, expecting nothing in return. Ya Allah, by that deed I did solely to please You, I beg You—grant her health, let her live. Let us lead a life filled with Your mercy and blessings, not only in this world but in the Hereafter."

He took a deep, shuddering breath, his voice filled with humility.

"Ya Ar-Rahman, Ya Ar-Rahim, You are the Hearer of all prayers. Shower Your mercy upon us. End our trials and forgive us, Ya Al-'Afuw."

5 Lessons from Surah Yusuf

Do you make dua and wonder if your prayers will ever be answered? Is there something you are striving for yet it remains out of reach? When you make steps toward being a better Muslim, do you feel like even those around you that love you and care about you are jealous of your good efforts? Do you feel like you are going through trials and tests again and again? Are others mocking you when you attempt to do something that pleases Allah? You are not alone. And rest assured, others have struggled to overcome these same challenges. There are numerous lessons in the Qur’an that can serve as an inspiration to persist in the face of adversity. Let’s reflect upon five lessons gained by reading Surat Yusuf

Lesson1: Something Miserable Is Better Than Disobeying Allah

Prophet Yusuf (AS) had already suffered a series of tests and trials, yet he remained obedient to Allah. His brothers had abandoned him in the well, then he was found and sold as a slave at the market. Despite being a loyal servant to the king, Yusuf (AS) was defamed and imprisoned. At the zenith of this crisis when everything seemed bleak, the wife of the King threatened to imprison Yusuf (AS) unless he would give in to her attempts at seduction. Yusuf (AS)’s response was recorded in the Qur’an, My lord, prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me. And if you do not avert me from my plan, I might incline toward them and [thus] be of the ignorant. (Yusuf 12 : 33)

Yusuf (AS) chose to live in the dark, dreary dungeon in a life of shackles over disobedience to Allah. Clearly, even if you encounter dismal surroundings and misery, Allah’s pleasure is greater and longer lasting. You will triumph if you obey Allah!

Lesson 2: Don’t Be Jealous

Jealousy divides communities, breaks up families, and splits up friendships. Prophet Yaqoob (AS) said, O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers or they will contrive against you a plan. Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy. (Surah Yusuf 12 : 5)

They were brothers by blood, but Yusuf’s brothers would not have been pleased by his vision of prophethood. Even those close to you – friends and family – might not be thrilled about blessings you have received or steps you take to live a life that is pleasing to Allah. It is best to keep your dreams quiet and only share them with trustworthy supporters until these aspirations are a flourishing reality.

Yusuf’s brothers believed Yaqoob (AS) loved Yusuf (AS) more than them. Their jealousy boiled up out of control. These brothers became an irrational gang, and they plotted to get rid of Yusuf (AS) by abandoning him in the well. One lie was woven into a web of lies, and the brothers informed their father that Yusuf (AS) had been devoured by a wolf (Mubarakburi, 2003; Sahih International, 1997)! Jealousy even touched the prophets, so we need to be sure to stamp out jealousy in our communities. As Muslims we should be sincerely happy when we see others being blessed by Allah. When we see people excelling in religion or gaining success we should say Masha’Allah or Tabarak Allah.

Lesson 3: Never Give Up Hope in Allah

Prophet Yaqoob (AS) never gave up the hope of finding his son. When Yusuf (AS)’s brothers came back to tell him that their brother was stolen and remained behind, Yaqoob (AS) was still sad about his loss of Yusuf (AS). He went blind over suppression of his grief, and complained only to Allah. Despite the intense grief he felt and the previous reports of Yusuf (AS) being consumed by a wolf, Yaqoob (AS) did not give up hope (Mubarakpuri, 2003: Sahih International, 1997). He instructed his sons to continue to search for Yusuf (AS) and his brother saying,

O my sons go and find out about Josepha and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people. (Yusuf 2:87)

Imagine, Prophet Yaqoob (AS) had not seen his son since childhood, so many years had passed that Prophet Yusuf (AS) was now a king of Egypt. Despite the passing of all these years, Prophet Yaqoob (AS) still firmly held onto the hope that Allah would answer his prayers and reunite him with his son. Many of us have trouble being patient for a few hours or a couple of days, let alone years or decades! Alhamdulillah, Yaqoob (AS) never gave up, and Allah answered his dua, relieving him of the sorrow he felt.

Lesson 4: Patience is Beautiful, So be Patient All the Time

We should always be patient. If we have patience in hardship, continuously counting our blessings, we will truly be victorious in both hardship and ease. Can you count how many times Yusuf (AS) was patient? He was patient while awaiting the fulfillment of his dream. He was patient when his brothers abandoned him in the well. He was patient when he was sold as a slave. He was patient when the king’s wife accused him of seduction. Yusuf (AS) continued to be patient when he was put in jail. Even when his fellow inmate was released and forgot about him, Yusuf (AS) continued to be patient! As the king of Egypt, Yusuf (AS) continued to be patient with his brothers’ slander. He kept his cool when they tried to say that his brother Binyamin was stealing just as his brother (Yusuf) had done the same before him (Mubarakpuri, 2003; Sahih International, 1997)! Regardless of the time, situation, place, or scenario, Yusuf (AS) remained patient.

Lesson 5: Forgive

When Yusuf (AS) finally confronts his brothers later in life, it is a beautiful lesson of forgiveness. After his brothers return with their father and Binyamin is accused of theft, they return to Yusuf (AS) in a great predicament. His brothers are enduring hard times in which they have poor harvest and are in need. On the other hand Yusuf (AS) has not only become the king of Egypt, but he has astutely saved provisions and prepared his community to survive the famine. Although Yusuf (AS) has suffered many hardships on account of his brother’s jealous plotting, Yusuf (AS) is strong and holds the upper hand. Instead of treating them with harshness or rebuking them to endure starvation, Yusuf (AS) utters very lovely words,

No blame will there be upon you today. Allah will forgive you; and He is the most merciful of the merciful. (Al Yusuf 12:92)

Instead of being bitter and angry or taking vengeance, Yusuf (AS) was strong enough to choose forgiveness! With all his power as a leader, Yusuf (AS) preferred the sweetness of forgiveness.

Although this brief reflection touches upon a few lessons of Surat Yusuf, take a few minutes to reflect a

bit more. Stop and read over this chapter of the Qur’an. Take a few moments to close your eyes and imagine implementing the lessons above. How can you bravely continue to be obedient to Allah? Is there a way you can support someone and help stamp out jealousy among friends or family? What steps would help you augment your hope that Allah will answer your prayers? In hard times, what reminders will prompt you to persevere in patience? Can you find it in your heart to forgive someone who has wronged you? What other lessons can you learn from Surat Yusuf?

Dealing with the addition of a baby can be challenging, twins even more so. Luna has been struggling but luckily she has a wife and in-laws who understand and are happy to help.

I would consider apologising for the length of this chapter but, Devin's not wrong when she claims to be my first favourite. Plus I'm still not over infants adorableness. Anyway quick part to finish with family visits and library trips.

Friday! After some playing with blocks the boys are moved to the lounge where they smile, coo and babble to each other. Once Devin and Luna are ready for the day, Devin checks in.

Devin: how are we bambinos

Rilian: coo la ba

Alfred: *giggles*

Devin: Who wants to play peek-a-boo

Rilian: *sniffles*

Devin: Don't worry caro, I know you don't like it but your brother might

Alfred: *is worried*

Alfred takes a few seconds to process what just happened. Upon reflection he enjoyed it, and Devin gets both a smile and a giggle.

Another reason we're in Willow Creek is that Luna needs to use an archive machine at the library for work. Devin has brought the mats for the boys and they begin playing. Suddenly Alfred feels confident and pushes himself up on all fours. He has unlocked the creep milestone!

Luna cheers Alfred on while Devin plays with Rilian before putting him on the mat. Once put down he immediately has a crisis. He loves being held and mama put him down, in a strange place to boot. It's not fair! He does manage to compose himself and have some playtime though.

Back home Joey pops around for a visit while Devin works with Rilian on tummy time.

Joey: Sup fam

Luna: Hey there

Alfred: bo la gan dua

Joey: What a wordsmith

Alfred: *smiles and stares*

Joey: Why is he looking at me like that

Luna: He does that, we have to try not take it personally

Joey appreciation post! He cleaned up and brought the washing in! Brother of the year. Devin meanwhile had to nap in her room. While the lullabies station might lull infants to sleep it appears adults can't sleep with it going... Even though she likes lullaby music...

Devin gets the boys to bed and Luna feels up to kissing them goodnight before heading to sleep herself. That's it for the Villareals at the moment, Devin is slowly gaining fame from her acting and Luna is working through her postpartum depression.

Saya yang baru keluar pondok, sangat tidak tahu dunia menuntut ilmu yang sebenarnya. Karena sistem belajar agama yang saya lalui di pondok modern sangat berbeda dengan sistem belajar agama yang sesungguhnya. Bertemu kembali dengan Zakaria, yang sudah hafidz serta pengalaman belajar di Sudan sangat merombak saya.

Boleh dibilang, dulu saya merasa semua ilmu itu mudah dikuasai. Selama di Pondok saya selalu teratas dengan mudah. Sesampai di Madinah, mendengar kisah-kisah orang-orang yang menuntut ilmu, menyaksikan perjuangan mereka-termasuk Zakaria-, kesulitan yang dilewati, panasnya matahari musim panas, uang yang dikeluarkan untuk hadir majlis lebih awal, meletakkan tas di depan kursi Syekh agar tidak terlambat dan duduk di belakang ratusan murid lain, betul-betul menghancurkan kesombongan diri saya.

Saya banyak berhutang budi dan belajar dari beliau.

Beliaulah wasilah saya dapat berguru dengan Syekh al-Habib Hamid ibn Akram al-Bukhari. Kami yang tidak tahu apa-apa diajak untuk mengaji, dan memurojaah di malam hari. Mengenang masa-masa tolabul-ilmi itu benar-benar indah. Demikian pula saya ikuti beliau hal-hal lain walau tak seluruhnya. Sampai akhir tahun saya di Madinah, beliau pula yang menemani saya berpamitan dengan Syekh Hamid.

Tahun ini beliau diuji dengan dijemputnya kekasih beliau ke hadirat Ilahi, setelah dikaruniai seorang putri, buah hati yang telah dinanti selama lima tahun pernikahan. Belum dua bulan sang buah hati, Istri tercinta meninggal dunia.

Kesedihan yang begitu mendalam terasa sampai disini. Mengalir pula air mata mendengar berita duka itu. Terbayang diri ada di posisi beliau. Di negeri rantau, jauh dari sanak famili. Diuji dengan kehilangan, di saat baru saja dikaruniai buah hati. Entah bagaimana lidah hendak menjelaskan apa yang dirasanya. Belum tentu pula akan kuat hati ini jika mengalaminya.

Tetapi segala sedih itu, kiranya terobatkan dengan tanda-tanda yang baik. Akhir yang baik, husnul khatimah In syaa Allah. Meninggal di kota Nabi, disalatkan di masjid Nabi, dikubur dekat kubur Nabi. Cita-cita banyak orang.

Semoga segala doa, rahmat dan maghfirah senantiasa terlimpah untuk almarhumah. Ditempatkan di tempat yang baik. Sedihmu adalah sedih kami. Putrimu, kami akan ikut melindungi. Kawan, guru dan saudara kami. We got your back, brother, Zack, Jek.
