About time that I posted more art so yeah, here's Hecka in the Duckblr Fashion Week prompt "Found In Nature" (Yes, I know I'm a week late so, SHUT UP)

"Hey, Mini Me." There's a cd in Mark's hand with a single song he knows might be important to them. "Heard you kids were looking for stuff about your mom & well. I thought I'd be nice since you're the only one who's not mad at me." ( -slides this in for Louie- imnotcryingok? )

{ ☆ } When one of Mark’s assistants called and asked Louie to visit Waddle for something important, he had naturally asked what the thing was. Unfortunately, they ‘weren’t at liberty to discuss that with him’. So, now he impatiently bounces on a ball-chair-thing while waiting in Mark’s office. The oh-so-helpful assistant had assured him that the parrot would be along soon. But minutes still tick by agonizingly slow… Is this how Dewey feels all the time? Head perks up once office doors open, Louie looking at Mark when he hears the nickname Mini Me. The reason for the name made apparent by the phone soon shoved into Louie’s hoodie pocket. Hands follow suit as he hops off the ball, eyes curiously focusing on the CD held in the man’s grip. However, they dart upward to meet Mark’s when his mom is mentioned.

Immediately, Louie can feel his heart stall. Followed by a tightening in his chest and churning in his stomach that always accompanies thinking about Della. Is that supposed to make him feel like this? His brothers don’t seem to have this problem. Whenever Huey talks about her, Louie can sense sadness in his tone. But, it’s a subdued one. A solemn acceptance of how things are… Dewey focuses solely on the good things about her. Facade cracks whenever what happened to her is brought up, but he stubbornly refuses to acknowledge it or the Spear Incident. Louie, on the other hand, always feels like he’s barely grasping onto his. Like he could break at any moment, despite how ‘collected’ he appears on the outside.

He can’t just ‘accept’ what happened. Not when there’s a very big chance of something happening to his other family members… He can’t just focus on the ‘good’ things. Not when they’ll never be able to see those things for themselves because of a stupid adventure. 

Hands clutch the inside of his pockets, feathers ruffling as the reason for the CD becomes clear. Gaze goes back to it, Louie swallowing a lump in his throat and grip on his clothes tightening… before it slowly releases. “Th-Thanks, Mark…” Louie says, hesitantly taking the CD. He feels sick… He shouldn’t feel sick, right? He should be excited. Overjoyed. But as he shakily puts the CD into the nearby laptop, he just feels… scared. Hands rest on the desk after he presses play, gripping the edge so hard that his fingers begin to hurt. He can feel his heart pounding frantically in his chest (it shouldn’t be) his breathing growing shallow as if he’s facing down a monster rather than about to… to hear his mom’s voice. 

God, he’s about to hear his mom’s voice… 

Eyes immediately squeeze shut, body uncomfortably tense… He’s going to hear her. He has only ever seen pictures and has only recently begun to learn stories. Della Duck is someone who Louie had envisioned in his mind for the longest time… and now has to recreate with snippets of truth. Strange as it may seem, adding yet another piece of the puzzle (especially one as big as what she sounds sounded like) is a terrifying thought. Because every scrap of information that helps build Della Duck in his mind, also tears away a piece of the ‘mom’ he knew… Of the one he’s often imagined talking to him. Of the soothing voice he’s spent God-knows-how-long crafting… What if her real one doesn’t comfort him the way it is supposed to? What if he hears her, and she doesn’t sound like ‘his mom’? What if- 

Eyes slowly open as a familiar tune begins to play.

“… Mom.” Word comes out a weak whisper, body slowly relaxing and eyes growing wide at the comforting melody. One he’s hummed to himself countless times… One he’s imagined Della humming to him countless times… She’s singing it to him. His mom is singing it to him… and her voice is everything he had envisioned it to be, and more. “M-Mom…” Voice cracks, tears welling in the duckling’s eyes as he leans closer to the laptop, wanting to be as close to the sound as possible. He knows that it’s just a recording. That she’s not really with him. That she’ll never be with him. But he still wants to be close to her voice… To her. Even if this is the only way he can be. Moisture falls down his cheeks, dampening his feathers even as a shaky smile forms on his face. That sick feeling in his stomach begins to fade, chest no longer aching as much as it had earlier… This song always did help calm him down.

Eyes close once more, a deep, soothing breath escaping him… Louie imagining that Della is actually in front of him. That’s she’s smiling at him. Holding him and gently brushing his head feathers. Protecting him from everything that frightens him (both inside and out)… Like she should be. Like he desperately wants her to be. Like she SAID she’d be… { ☆ }
