#OnOurShelvesToday: Clos Lapeyre, 'Evidencia' Blanc 2016 _ Clos Lapeyre is situated in the Jurançon region of south west France, between Pau and Biarritz and was founded in 1920 by Jean Larrieu. Initially run as a strawberry farm, the estate is now run by Jean's grandson, Jean-Bernard, who took over in 1985 and replanted the entire estate with vines. The 12 hectares of vines are cultivated strictly according to organic principles and face south towards the Pic-du-Midi, an aspect which provides a modicum of protection from strong winds and plenty of sunshine during the summer months. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The estate lies 10 kilometers outside Pau, in the shadow of Pyrenees, at an altitude of 300-400 meters. The soil is a kaleidoscope of loams and pebbly clays and limestone with silex over Jurancon puddingstone. Jean-Bernard farms all 18 hectares organically, eight of which are on very steep slopes. His aim is to make wines that express the myriad variations of terroir: natural, expressive and sincere. _ Evidencia is a blend of equal parts Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and Courbu which are fermented separately before being aged together in oak vats. Gravner Ribolla 2007 . Josko Gravner, the man in behind this estate is a visionary, philosopher, idealist, traditionalist and more important them all an artist! He makes one of the best white wines of the world! He had tried all the new technologies in winemaking at his youth just to go back to the way the wine has been made for thousands of years. It is located in Lenzuolo Bianco, Oslavia, in the region of Friuli, Italy. . This is a 100% Ribolla grape, which have been planted in that region for over a thousand years. Fermentation happens in Georgian amphorae buried underground, long maceration, wild yeast and no temperature control. After removing the must, the wine goes back for another at least 5 months and then to large oak barrels for 6 years. . In case not notice, this is an orange wine, meaning the skins and seeds are left in contact with the grape juice which does not happen to the regular white wine. The time of this contact varies by producer to producer and typically is a very natural wine, with almost no intervention at all. . Very complex notes on this wonderful wine: saline, some zestiness, smokiness and nuttiness, dry herbs and hint of dry apricot.
