"In the Tarkir I once knew, the Abzan revered their ancestor trees. Now, as Dromoka, they cut their finest groves to make weapons…What?”

Sarkhan glanced over at the Abzan spirit glaring daggers at him. Obliviously, he continued to question Anafenza’s ire.

“What?”

“You sound almost troubled,” growled the spirit, her gravelly tone clashing with its ethereal echo.

“I…I am? I mean, it’s a shame that they’ve abandoned their roots.”

“Indeed it is. And whose fault was that?”

“Er…” Sarkhan swallowed, finally realizing the source of Anafenza’s anger. “That was an unintended consequence of-”

“Why do you think my ancestors fought dragons?”

“Well…I don’t really know.”

“Forget it.” Anafenza sighed, a breath of sudden chill that made Sarkhan shiver. “Ugin, I can understand. A scholar and…not quite as much a tyrant as his brethren. Wise beyond his years - yes, even his years - and admittedly a victim of the khans before us cutting too wide. But for the others, again, there’s a reason they fought.”

“But to wipe out every last dragon?”

“Yes. Because this is, and always has been the only alternative.” Anafenza gestured to the ballista Sarkhan had been watching.

“I hear at least the Ojutai monks have found some solace in their dragonlord.”

“Yes. And I would have advocated for my people to go there…if Ojutai had not made the monks xenophobic and pompous, and hostile to all outsiders…even more than before, anyways.”

Sarkhan’s expression steeled. “I stand by my decision.”

“No need. Nothing I can do about it now, nor you, nor any of the dragonlords’ servants.”

Sarkhan’s defiance being left unanswered caused him to deflate. The planeswalker departed without another word, disappearing into the Blind Eternities. As such, Anafenza’s last words reached only herself:

“You won.”

[It does bring me some satisfaction to know that Sarkhan experienced some buyer’s remorse for his actions, albeit inconsistently according to different flavor texts. I really love the flavor of the khans, and idk, but it feels like a lot of it was lost jumping over to the Dragons timeline, as seen here.]

Feats for Channeling

Like my earlier Master Channeler, here's a few feats that hopefully make Channel Energy a bit more viable in PF1.

Disabling Channel Channeling Feat Prerequisites: Good, Channel Positive Energy 3d6, Heal 5 ranks Your positive energy can disrupt a living creature’s natural biorhythms. When you channel positive energy, you may choose to have it deal nonlethal damage to living creatures rather than heal living or harm undead. This does not count as Harming Living for the purpose of feat prerequisites or variant channeling.

Prestigious Channeler Channeling Feat Prerequisites: Channel Energy class feature. Treat your effective cleric level as three higher for the purpose of determining channel dice, uses, and DC. This feat cannot raise your effective cleric level above your character level.

Something something what if for our return to arcavios during the *dragonstorm arc* the elder dragons of Tarkir try to invade other planes and the elder dragons of Arcavios are forced to fight against them? Based on colour combos, the strixhaven dragons would fight the tarkir lords based on the missing colours from the clans they took over

For example

- Ojutai (Jeskai) vs Beledros (Witherbloom)

- Silumgar (Sultai) vs Velomachus (Lorehold)

- Kolaghan (Mardu) vs Tazanir (Quandrix)

- Dromoka (Abzan) vs Galazeth (Prismari)

- Atarka (Temur) vs Shadrix (Silvarquill)

Honestly i wish it was a block formula to have one set on tarkir, one on arcavios and the final one being the end confrontation. Itd be funny if the strixhaven founders weaponised their students to fight to liberate Tarkir for extra credit or something and this could be a place to see Liliana again because im getting withdrawals

New Faces In Familiar Places Runners Up!!

This design is certainly quite pushed, it’s at minimum a 2 mana 3/3 trample that makes your other stuff bigger, and then has even more upside to make itself bigger so it’s never not relevant. If this had been a base 0/0 instead of a base 1/1, I’d be all over it, as is it might be just a biiiit much though, I think. But I still really like it, it’s a very solid design, and I’m not even wholly confident in the claim that it’s too much if I’m being honest though it’s certainly pushed

This is Hypiros, an Akroan giant from Theros in Zendikar. Here, he is acting as a roaming fortress for the Akroans to contend with the shifting landscape of Zendikar after the Akroans were displaced by the Phyrexian invasion. This card synergizes with the ROE level up mechanic as an allusion to the Akroans training up their forces in this roving fortress, with the copy ability keeping your level up engine going.

This certainly seems like a fun level up commander. It’s a lot of value, but only with niche cards. I like how the token creation lets you do more of the level up thing when the first ability makes it easier. I don’t think “mode” would be the word used here though, it’d probably just say level.

Özgür is an ainok once of the Dromoka who joined a clandestine rebellion against the dragonlord. Accidentally, he found himself on Arcavios, learning about Strixhaven and its leadership from his first friend on the plane—and when he expressed his dismay, his friend just so happened to have some other friends he thought Özgür should meet…

Yeah a tarkir native would react pretty badly to strixhaven, huh? I like the vision. I also like the simple use of mechanics, magecraft- bolster is a great expression of what’s going on here flavorfully. Good stuff, though it probably wants reminder text.

Elesh Norn vs. Dromoka

So I e been thinking about Rhynn and how a big part of her identity once she's on Ravnica is joining the Simic Combine. She loves the study of creatures and their adaptations to their environments most of all but also enjoys learning about a certain degree of meta-magic (Gyre clade) and biomancy. She even biomances her own drake (mutant) companion.

Yet I've never had her do any biomancy on herself. My original idea was that being from Tarkir and learning biomancy maybe somehow, like Sarkhan, she could shape-shift into a dragon. But that no longer is the goal with her. However, some helpful, non-drastic, biomancy does seem up her alley.

Two things I am thinking.

One, I will fully admit I was inspired by bg3. She grew up basically worshipping Dromoka dragons (clan focusing on the strength of dragon scales). She works with drakes. I could see her giving herself patches of draconic scales. Not all over, but in crucial points for protection.

Two, is probably not super visible and I'm not 100% sold on this one yet so like, not canon yet. But she's not a great swimmer and also works woth the Combine. What if she gave herself some rudimentary gills or something so she could still breathe underwater? Rhynn is nothing if not practical and that just seems like a practical change (especially since he sister is a merfolk).

ANYWAY!
