huh. tutorials on how to canadian hobby store. i should probably have a watch of those sometime before I open the doors of the one im starting in about a month

I have, over the last week, just binged videos from these two Canadian guys who run a Hobby Store. The videos are about the wargaming hobby, but they also have a ton of videos on how to run a successful hobby store (which I find absolutely amazing because I'm a supernerd when it comes to running small businesses and seeing it from a hobby store perspective makes it extra interesting)

I, unfortunately, can't visit their store since it is on the other side of the world, but since I've watched like 50videos of them in a row, I think I should at least recommend them to someone 😂

6h to paint 3 of em, in what im told is the stormhost Knights of Excelsior. came out pretty nice.

so ive recently picked up the skaventide box because while stormcasts look kinda stupid to me and dont quite hit right for what i want, i learned that its the only way to get the Fire & Jade rulebook, which is currently the only source of the Spearhead rules, and THAT i did want to get my hands on. also i only paid 74 for the box via shenanigans but that's not the point of this post.

ive been slowly building these stormcast eternals and just DREADING painting them because the obvious easiest way to do so would be to airbrush them gold right but ive heard low quality metallic paints like what i have and airbrushes dont get along great and i dont want to do that to my airbrush but the alternative is painting all the gold by hand which would take FOREVER

so i was kinda just considering painting them in the ultramarines colour scheme because haha if i wont have *sci-fi* blueberries then i should have fantasy ones right??

then. then i saw This Guy.

from the poster that comes in the skaventide box. and,, i can work with that. the Vallejo primer i prefer is an almost-white grey, and slapping some nuln oil on that achieves this look almost perfectly. beyond that its just some darker grey detailing, gold trim, and ultramarine blue pauldrons. very, very doable.

so when i have free time again I think thats where ill be going with these. hopefully do a stream of it, just casually slapping paint on some knightguys and chatting for half a day or so. i miss streaming a lot, but havent had the energy to even get these guys built. someday soon,,

also? after building a few i think the stormcasts are growing on me. they still look stupid, but in an endearing way. i hate their stupid little helmets SO much i cant wait to see their dumb faces painted and on a table

For those who're into mini-painting like I am, and given that while strikers aren't directly calling for a boycott (because they legally might not even be able to) they're heavily suggesting that not-buying the products as a way of pressuring them, please don't cross the picket line on this.

We gotta support strikes wherever we can, and I will say ProAcryl and even the new line of Army Painter Fanatic paints are excellent substitutes in the interim...

im cool with sharing that because i was far away from home on a work trip; i snatched this lil lady inside Quintette Coal Mine near Tumblr Ridge, British Columbia, Canada

also id like to be very clear that both the grabbing and the holding were extremely gentle; the bird was exhausted from being trapped inside the building for 2 days and did not attempt to escape being picked up, and i couldn't feel the contact through my glove. once i got her outside she flew away immediately and joined the rest of the same birds that constantly flew in flocks around the building
