very pleased to report that i tried literally counting sheep last night and got my first full night's sleep in like a week in a long period of sleepless nights!!

love artist impressions based on data of exoplanets but for some reason absolutely thrilled by the Shittiest Actual Photographs we have of them. the obvious thing is that unlike stars, exoplanets are 1)small and 2)not usually emitting any strong visible light. this makes them near impossible to get a clear photo of and every image you see of a fully defined sphere with colors or clouds is entirely from the mind of an artist based on the available data and conclusions of said data of that particular insterstellar piece of Thing. every photograph of the real physical object is always Very small and ... doesn't tell you much because the planet itself only takes up maybe 3% of the image

if i had to take a guess, to get any visual on them you need them to be reflecting the light of their nearby star At An Angle Facing The Camera, and slash or giving off their own infrared light, and even then theyre still So Small that they show up as just little glowing jellybeans

when it comes to Different Kinds Of Stuff In Space just being able to barely see these things that we know exist makes me bizarrely nervous and delighted, not for the fear of like oh aliens are gonna fucking get me or anything but i think for just being aware of something unfathomable far out of our reach. like an ant suddenly realizing that its living on a massive globe larger than anything its ever understood and on the other side of that globe is like, a dilapidated barn or something else seemingly inane in the grand scheme of things and the ant has to sit and think about what that barn is like for the thrill i suppose

no ok but in part 1 when paul first has his vision of the holy war and quietly says "someone please help me" ---my heart is BROKEN . This is a kid who is terrified of what he might become and then Becomes It. And was doomed to always become it. this is why i'm not fully on board with the "paul is 100% a villain" discourse -- because he never wanted to be. still haven't read dune messiah i just Know Stuff but sure he BECOMES a coked up religious figurehead dictator responsible for billions(?) of deaths, but I will never forget that he absolutely did not start out that way. Paul is a tragedy. And the child he was deserved so much more than what he was made to be later. Whatever crazy bullshit he pulls next, a part of me will always be sympathetic to some degree. this is the horror story he's the killer and the final girl all at once. Never forget the kid who, when able to choose whatever name he liked for himself, named himself after a mouse.

you would THINK that false and ren talking about eating snails was inspired by gem and grian's snail thing. but NO they were talking about eating snails because ren brought it up when they were talking about prawns and how garlic butter made everything tasty, and they were talking about shrimp because ren was flying to south africa, and they were talking about that because ren wanted cheese but had to clear his fridge, and they were talking about cheese because ren's golden armour looked like cheese. and they were talking about ren's golden armour because false tipped her hat when ren was admiring people who walked on heels but ren only had a golden helmet so he couldn't do the same thing. and they were talking about stilettos because of mud blocks.
