Warioware easily has one of my favorite interpretations of furry characters because the catboys/dogboys aren't cutesy ditzy teenagers they're middle aged burnt-out Brooklynites run ragged by their menial labor job driving a taxi. The rest of the world around them is silly and fantastical and they're just trying to pay their fucking rent after customers keep bailing out on paying their cab fare

Its frustrating being a WarioWare fan because like the series is filled with unique and fun characters with a surprising amount of depth. Like "here's a high schooler who works 15 jobs, loves gross out stuff, and has a crush on Wario (which he doesn't reciprocate)" or "here's a gruff cat and dog with Boston accents who are actually huge comic book nerds, and struggle to get by because they end up getting stiffed by the supernatural" or "here's an alien who tried to take over the planet, but ended up falling in love with our culture and fast food and decided to stay here, also hes gender fluid, loves pranking people, also has a crazy high IQ" or "here's an over 100 year old mad scientist with IBS, who operated on himself to become a cyborg just to take care of his granddaughter, who dreams of becoming a popstar as well as a scientist, also he built a karaoke cleaning robot who's a sarcastic jaded bastard"

And the only character which the mainline Mario fandom likes is the generic Goth girl who always acts bored out of her mind? Like yeah there's hints of Ashley having hidden depths, learning to socialize with people, having a guardian demon, the idea that her parents may have died, and shipping her with Penny is adorable But like...wanting her in Smash Bros or Mario Kart or Mario Party with no other WarioWare characters also coming over!?

The existence of the WarioWare games within the greater Mario universe is so fascinating to me because it means Wario is constantly going back and forth between two different friend groups, one of which seemingly doesn’t know the other exists at all.

I guess I have to admire his dedication to keeping his work and downtime activities completely separate from each other.

i do find it funny that not only did the warioware/rhythm heaven team create a duo of characters on the basis of "an anthropomorphic dog and yellow cat with matching names who fly around in vehicles together" twice, once for each series, but also that both times the fandoms seem to have unanimously gone "oh! they're gay married <3". peace and love on planet earth
