SR Show Your Flags: Day 7
This is the penultimate one of these at least for a while as I'm going away next week. I'm obsessed with how tomorrow's is looking though 🙂 (Huge hint: it's canon).
I'm sure precisely no-one recalls that a very long time ago I mentioned I have an OC with the same surname as Lego's boss, well I finally drew her! Jenny is the owner of Castillo hotels which is a biiiiiiiiig deal in my hc universe. As far as I can remember, she's the first major non-Boss OC I wrote for my fic.
Tumblr media
Benjamin King (questioning) and Jenny Castillo (aromantic) pictured in 2018.
Fun fact about them: Firstly I just want to talk about why I gave Ben the questioning flag because there's a lot of ways to interpret that. I won't really have a defined hc for Ben until I look more at pre-pre-pre-SR1 but... I like the idea that he may have been too bound by societal pressures to really look at his sexuality when he was younger, but begins to think about it more as he gets older and is y'know... completely fucking surrounded by LGBTQIA+ people. I think this reflects something that quite a lot of people in their 60s/70s would relate to in all honesty.
So this maybe wouldn't really be classed as a romantic relationship as such because Jenny is aro, but it's an important relationship for them both nonetheless.
These two meet often at various networking events for years and are acquaintances for a long time, but there is definitely some sort of spark between them. They do have a casual relationship in 2017-18; her job takes her all over the place so they tend to just hook up whenever she's in DC.
This suits Ben well because, as I've mentioned before, he finds that his insistence on keeping his relationships a secret often leaves serious partners displeased. It also suits Jenny well because she worries that more serious partners will expect their romantic feelings to be reciprocated due to bad experiences in the past.
They end on good terms when she retires and decides to spend a lot more of her time travelling internationally.

hi *chrome canvas jumpscare*
drew this at school (during my english essay 💀)
This is Core, my seeker OC. He's an ex-decepticon along with his cousin Castillo who is also a seeker, but forged on Caminus (Family origins soon, but if that doesn't work out, I'll rewrite it). Despite being... THIS, he's actually a really silly funny guy. Only when he's with his circle of friends. He also has a crush on someone!

canon starter call - open to anyone !
i have a strong urge to write some canon muses, so if you would be interested in writing against any of the canon muses listed under the READ MORE below, please comment/IM me and i can send a starter your way or reply to one of your starters.
i do not require you to know anything about my muse's canon, but i'm more than happy to tell you about it if you ask. i'd be happy to write canon muses against your ocs! also, mixing fandoms is 100% ok with me unless your canon muse is problematic and makes me uncomfy. my canon muses do not have all their memories or relationships from their life unless we plot it, but they will have the same general personality/ambitions.
if you are willing to write against my canon muses but don't care which, just like this post, and i'll take a look at your open starters and/or send you a closed starter at random with a muse i think fits the vibe.
*please don't agree to write against my canon muses if you're one of those picky weirdos that will be up in arms if i don't write a cannon muse exactly how you would.
( if you'd prefer to write against an oc muse only, check this post. )

Trina Robbins
American cartoonist and author whose pioneering work in comics included being the first female artist to draw Wonder Woman
The American illustrator and writer Trina Robbins, who has died aged 85, began her career in comics in her native New York in the 1960s as a contributor to the counterculture newspaper East Village Other. She also drew and wrote strips for Gothic Blimp Works, an underground comic.
Then came comic strips, covers and spot illustrations for the underground publications Berkeley Tribe and It Ain’t Me, Babe, often described as the first feminist newspaper, before before she put together an all-women comic, It Ain’t Me, Babe Comix (1970), followed by the anthology All Girl Thrills (1971) and the solo comic Girl Fight Comics (1972).
Her black heroine, Fox, was serialised in Good Times (1971) and another of her characters, Panthea, who first appeared in Gothic Blimp Works (1969), was a regular in Comix Book (1974-76).
She also became one of the 10 founders of Wimmen’s Comix, an all-female underground comics anthology published from 1972 to 1992, and in the late 70s was a contributor to High Times, Heavy Metal, National Lampoon and Playboy.
Later she adapted the 1919 novel Dope, by Sax Rohmer, for Eclipse Comics (1981-83) and wrote and drew Meet Misty (1985-86) for Marvel. She was also the first woman to draw Wonder Woman, in The Legend of Wonder Woman (1986).
Robbins’ wider interest in the history of girls’ comics led her to co-write a book about the genre, Women and the Comics (1986), with Catherine Yronwode, and later A Century of Women Cartoonists (1993), followed by a number of biographies of female comic pioneers, including Nell Brinkley, Lily Renée, Gladys Parker and Tarpé Mills.
Born in Brooklyn, she grew up in Queens, where her mother, Bessie (nee Roseman) was a teacher. Her father, Max Perlson, was a tailor who later wrote for Yiddish-language newspapers and published a collection of stories, A Minyen Yidn (1938), that was turned by Trina into a comic anthology in 2017.
At the age of 10 she graduated from reading wholesome animal comics to Millie the Model, Patsy Walker and others with female protagonists. The Katy Keene comic was especially influential, as it encouraged Robbins to make paper dolls and design clothing for them. She was also a huge fan of the jungle adventuress Sheena.
Having discovered science fiction at 14, Robbins began attending conventions, and at one such gathering she met the short story writer Harlan Ellison. At 21 he was five years her senior, but they dated briefly and he later wrote her into his film The Oscar (1966) as Trina Yale, played by Edie Adams.
Trina attended Queens College before studying drawing at Cooper Union, although she dropped out after a year. In 1957 she married the cartoonist Art Castillo; they moved to the Bay area of Los Angeles until he disappeared to Mexico and the relationship ended.
Working for a time as a model for men’s magazines, she was a cinema usherette when she met Paul Robbins, whom she married in 1962 following Castillo’s death. Her new husband wrote for the LA Free Press, which gave her access to the Byrds, Bob Dylan and other musicians, and she began making clothing to sell to musician friends, including Mama Cass.
Returning alone to New York in 1966 (she and Robbins eventually divorced, in 1972), she opened a boutique called Broccoli on East 4th Street, making clothes for exotic customers and having flings with a number of them, including the Doors’ singer Jim Morrison and the activist Abbie Hoffman; she also had longer relationships with Paul Williams, editor of Crawdaddy magazine, and the cartoonist Kim Deitch, with whom she set up a cartoon art museum on East 9th Street.
Her clothes-making got her into a song by Joni Mitchell, who wrote in Ladies of the Canyon that “Trina wears her wampum beads / She fills her drawing book with line / Sewing lace on widows’ weeds / And filigree on leaf and vine”.
After she had sold her boutique in 1969 and began to make her living in comics, there was no looking back.
Apart from her writing and illustrating activities over the years, in 1994 she became one of the founders of Friends of Lulu, a US-based charity that promotes the reading of comic books by women and the participation of women in the comic book industry.
Her later work on the history of women in comics produced three further books, From Girls to Grrrlz (1996), The Great Women Cartoonists (2001) and Pretty in Ink (2013).
She also wrote a number of books for children, starting with Catswalk: The Growing of Girl (1990), and including the Chicagoland Detective Agency series (2010-14) of bizarre high school mystery adventures.
For adults she wrote The Great Women Superheroes (1996), Eternally Bad: Goddesses With Attitude (2001), Tender Murderers: Women Who Kill (2003) and Wild Irish Roses: Tales of Brigits, Kathleens and Warrior Queens (2004).
Her most recent comic was Won’t Back Down (2024), a pro-choice anthology.
She is survived by her partner, Steve Leialoha, a daughter, Casey, from her relationship with Dietch, and her sister Harriet.

Chapter Two- Hesitation
@intothegimmickverseofficial
Chell hesitated. Wait, why was she running through the rain? A droplet fell into her mouth. The flash of bright blindness hurt her eyes and left her on the ground, coughing, whispering to turn back.
Why wasn't she able to?
Even as Castillo watched, snake curled around her neck, she couldn't bring herself to help.
Even as Tinder and Earth called from the door, they found themselves paralysed.
Stanley had gone mute. SCP was frozen. Identify breathed and stopped. Moon and Sun didn't even look up.
Then, suddenly, footsteps as Tinder rushed to collect Chell barely before the lightning hit.
"Why the hell would you do that??" Tinder dropped Chell onto the sofa as footsteps echoes around them.
"I'm not sure." Chell paused. An echo of the truth echoed in her mind. Dare you cheat your way around the board for a chance at paradise? "I damn near thought I was having some sort of manic or psychotic episode. Alas, I was not. That was last week." She laughed.
Stanley was shaking, sweat dripping down her forehead, a choke in her lungs not quite prohibiting breathing but very strongly discouraging it.
"Why did you save me?" Chell stared, before fainting.
"I thought Stanley would like me to keep you in a preferable state... not torn to shreds by lightning." Tinder laughed before skipping upstairs to avoid SCP's torrent of questions doomed to circle them.
Even as the footsteps stilled, the house moaned and settled, even as the rain beat down as though it was trying to break in, SCP barely slept.
What had prevented them from moving?
A tiptoe here, a footstep there, and they were in front of Stanley's door.
"You awake?" SCP barely breathed as they ghosted through the room to loom above Stanley:s bed like a totem of doom.
"Hmm?" Stanley barely blinked. "Yeah, why?"
"How doesn't that scare you?" SCP mumbled before sitting down. "Anyway, what was it?"
"Invisible idiots holding us down. Unicorns. A tray of sand is magic and angry. I don't know." Stanley drew from her dreams and sighed, "Though you'd expect Chell to behave a little more... Normal."
"Who in this house is normal?" SCP snorted. Stanley chuckled before standing.
"Let's get some tea... or hot chocolate," Yawn, "And discuss this downstairs."
Chell remained cuddled up to herself downstairs, as Stanley made the chocolate and tea. SCP curled their arms around Chell before floating upstairs.
"Back so soon?" Stanley questioned Moon, who may or may not have been watching at the stairs to the basement.
"SCP-"
"Took Chell back to her room." Stanley stifled another yawn as she poured the milk. "How many spoonfuls of sugar does SCP like again?"
"Three, I believe," Chell shrugged, "but wh-"
"Shh, they're coming back." Stanley spooned in the sugar as SCP stepped into the kitchen, nodding at Moon and smiling at Stanley.
"Alright, let's figure this out." Stanley mumbled before passing the tea to SCP, who nodded in thanks, and they sat next to each other to contemplate the extraordinary.
Moon watched for a while before stepping downstairs. Sun was already there, sitting in a couch and reading some book or other.
Without a glance up, Sun parted the space next to her and let Moon huff down. Tensing, Sun flipped the page of the book and finally flicked her eyes up.
"What happened?"
"Oh, SCP and Stanley up at the small hours for reasons as of yet unknown to man and beast alike, the usual."
"Ah. Has anyone introduced those two to sleep yet?"
"I think Etho attempted to once, a while back, but SCP decided to throw themselves into some SCP containment chamber and Stanley decided that falling out of a window was better."
Sun laughed, in a way that made her name represent her; hair thrown back and sparkling in the dim light, a mythical laugh of strength and power, of charm and honour. Moon quivered to be  before such a goddess, and moreover to be left alive in such proximity.
"Wow..." Moon breathed. Sun stared. Her Moon was such a pretty one, shiny hair that fluttered behind her without a wind, eyes that twinkled in the dying starlight... proof that people really were made of stardust.
"Well, that's enough romance novels for one day." Sun quipped, letting her book fall to the ground as Moon leaned in, neither noticing the figure standing behind them.
