It was so much fun. Hard work, too brief, but fun.

I don’t need a Dresden Files tv show remake becuase I want to see book accurate scenes and characters come to life. No no no. I need it so the angsty little 12 year olds can make the most soul crushing edits of the characters to songs like “Your own your own kid” “not strong enough” “SCOTT STREET” “WHAT WAS I MADE FOR”, that cause me to go into a depressive spiral for 6 days.

The only thing that's made watching most of the whole season of Dresden Files (2007) bearable is imagining a universe breach situation where the real Harry Dresden ends up getting his hands on a copy of this show. Butters and the wolf pack stop by the castle unannounced and find him yelling "THAT'S NOT HOW MAGIC WORKS!" at the screen during episode 2 so of course they demand to stay. Bob sides with them and refuses to play episode 3 until everyone is settled in with popcorn. Someone secretly dials Mac and he shows up with a cooler. Bob hits 'play' and Harry watches through his fingers. Billy is the first to fall off the couch laughing when TV!Harry raises his hockey stick staff. By episode 5 they have to take a break to assure Bob that he's cooler and sexier than Ghost Bob. Everyone yells 'BOOOO' whenever the Jeep is on screen. Someone throws a popcorn bowl at Justin's face after they find out he killed Harry's dad. Georgia puts a hand on Harry's knee and whispers a worried, 'that's not true, right?' Harry just rolls his eyes. They all drink a toast to Murphy even though they agree that Karrin would've hated 'Connie' Murphy. They marathon the whole series that night. Nobody teases Harry after episode 12, which is just as well because he's barely holding it together. "That was...," Bob starts, but his voice fades out. "Terrible," says Mac. There's a tired chorus of agreement. Harry thinks that's the end of it until a ribbon-wrapped hockey stick appears on his doorstep a few days later.

Harry Dresden Whump - The Dresden Files (2007)

Below are my notes on whump for the main character Harry Dresden in the 2007 TV show The Dresden Files.

Spoilers ahead!

S1E1- hung up by his wrists, beaten, tortured with magic

S1E2- shot in a vision, shot at and falls to ground, shot, sore wrist, stabbed in the leg and punched repeatedly

S1E3- attacked by lycanthrope

S1E4- punched and thrown across room, knocked out with blow to head, backhanded and knocked to ground

S1E5- bleeding and stumbling in flashback, bandaged and in bed in flashback, tasered and kidnapped, cuffed to chair, punched repeatedly, struggling to do magic, shot in the back with two arrows

S1E6- cut on neck, drugged, groggy, beaten up

S1E7- thrown into wall, hit in the head, hit, arm grabbed painfully, punched and thrown across room twice

S1E8- pain in chest, falls to ground, hit and thrown back, channeling electricity through himself, thrown to ground, attacked by vampire, punched in stomach, thrown onto hood of car, pain from voodoo doll, hit and thrown through glass

S1E9- electrocuted, uses all his energy

S1E10- thrown back and knocked out, painful vision, hit with table in flashback, knocked out, bound and gagged, has his power drained

S1E11- thrown back

S1E12- in a tussle, hit in head, thrown back, beaten up

rewatching the show again because of course i am and i will say it never fucking fails to amuse me how harry grimly goes "there's only one thing that could do this..............black magic. the blackest." like in the most ominous tone he can manage with his like, ominous spinning magic crystal, and then literally like 0.005 seconds later he's like "ayyyy listen murphy we both know magic is fucking BULLSHIT and NOT REAL---" lmao

wait - you worked on the TV Dresden Files? I loved that show and still rewatch on DVDs. The casting was amazing, loved the relationship between Bob and Harry, the music was catchy, and you somehow managed to eliminate the misogyny baked into the books and improved the characters and stories. Typically adaptations can be hit or miss, but your adaptation was better than the source material. Thank you so much for your stories and your work on the show!

Thanks for the kind words about The Dresden Files. Everyone worked very hard on that one. I wish we'd been able to do more than one season. Ah well.
