I was made aware of this through a reddit post: we can nominate movies to be preserved in the National Film Registry, and we should nominate some Dreamworks movies. Shrek is already in it. The criteria is that the nominations must be at least 10 years old and an American film. With this in mind, I think we should nominate the following movies to be preserved in the registry:

Kung Fu Panda

How to Train Your Dragon

Reblogging for funsies. Still not sure how the fight with the Robot Probe and such would work as of yet, but I have some scenarios for Derek's first meetings with his fellow prisoners...

Dr. Cockroach:

After Derek gets done shrieking about a "giant" cockroach, Dr C just sighs. "I'm afraid not. You my friend are miniscule."

Link:

"Holy moly. They actually did bring in a tiny human. You are just adorable!"

Derek responds with a growl and narrows his eyes.

BOB:

Dr C: "Bob, this is-"

"*happy gasp* A HUMAN ACTION FIGURE! LEMME PLAY WITH HIM!"

BOB picks up little Derek up off the table and flies him around like a toy plane while Derek screams.

Insectosaurus:

They can't see Derek, but Derek sure can. He responds with even more screaming.

And finally, once the weight of his situation and condition finally hit him...

"Oh no this is terrible! Who's gonna tell the weather?!"

Monger: "Already taken care of. We've put one of our interns in your place."

"AN INTERN?! You stuck some lowlife in MY position?!"

Some trivia bits for this AU:

Derek does in fact have white hair like a transformed Susan does in canon.

The table in the prisoner hub area has a set of a doll table and chair on it to accommodate poor little Derek.

When he was hit by the meteorite, the Wilhelm scream sound effect played.

I also think this image perfectly sums up the dynamic between Derek and Link in this AU:

Monsters Vs Aliens AU: "Microscopius"

Yeah I've been on a MVA kick lately like I was years ago, so here have this 'little' thing I've been developing. Basically it's a sort of role swap AU and Alternate Timeline all at once. To put it bluntly, what if Susan WASN'T struck by the meteorite, but a certain not so kosher fiancé was? Yeah it was Derek. Yes I'm taking easily the most despised character in the entire fandom and making an AU that focuses on him for laughs.

As for how the Quantonium affects him, instead of turning into a giant, he... does the opposite. The substance causes him to shrink down to a mere six inches tall because I thought the idea was amusing. Like, since Susan was based off of the 50 foot woman trope, why not The Incredible Shrinking Man for Derek?

After he is of course caught and imprisoned by the government, he ends up being kept in a hamster cage because there wasn't a cell small enough for him. Said cage is complete with a wheel, a water dispenser and various pieces of doll furniture. His cage is put inside Dr Cockroach's cell as a means of weird cellmates, which isn't fun for either of them.

He is given the name "Microscopius" by the government, and despite being tiny and harmless he manages to make life a living hell for everyone around him in the facility (he and Link end up butting heads pretty much all the time).

As for what becomes of Susan in this AU, she gets to live on as a normal human being and is distraught that her husband-to-be has been taken away, not caring that he's less than a foot tall.

When it comes to the situation with Gallaxhar, I haven't quite figured it all out yet. Saving the world will be tough when you're the size of a doll.

Monsters vs Aliens ✨

The sillies from the 2009 Dreamworks film, Monsters VS Aliens <3 I love this film, I got back into it and recently decided to sit down and finally watch the whole series as well.

The first and last doodle are my designs/interpretations of the characters (most are pretty much like the canon, but I decided to redesign a few of them just for my own twist haha).

Ginormica/Susan Murphy now has a hand-tail and pointier blue ears ~ the reason is, her powers stem from an alien source, so I felt like she should look a tad more alien now... also, the tail-hand is inspired by Gallaxhar, cause I headcanon the rock is from his own planet.

B.O.B, Link and Dr. C (and Monger too haha) are pretty much the same xD Lil sillies hehe

also added the aliens [Sqweep, Coverton, Sta'abi and the Vornicarn] from the series, whom I just slightly touched up their designs (like the monsters) in my own style haha.

Also yes, Susan is the 2nd shortest when in her normal height haha xD I think that be funny since she then becomes the (almost) tallest of them all.

Also, Insectosaurus :) I combined both his grub and butterfly form, cause I feel like he'd be cuter if he stayed the same and just then gained the wings and fluffier antennas/fur.

The 2nd doodle is based off the dog episode from the series... just, wish they turned into actual dogs and not were dog brained xD would have also been an interesting scenario... esp. when one canine is larger than the others.

i think dreamworks is a great studio and upon watching all of their movies this year for their 30th anniversary, there are very few that I dislike. even shark tale has its moments, sykes is an icon. and i've gained a new appreciation for some of their movies like the httyd series, monsters vs aliens, over the hedge, the croods (especially the sequel). over the hedge was way ahead of its time, and monsters vs aliens is actually secretly a feminist masterpiece.

and their early days just hit different. i mean, we have a CGI movie about ants overthrowing a fascist, two 2D movies in a row, one adapting the book of exodus and the other being a parody of those old "road to" movies, a claymation movie that's basically the great escape, and of course, a certain cgi ogre. quite the lineup!

my dreamworks marathon is now complete, as i have now watched all of their theatrical films from antz to the wild robot.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who liked and reblogged the posts i made while watching each movie. i would especially like to thank the antz, chicken run, madagascar, over the hedge, monsters vs aliens, megamind, rise of the guardians, the croods, turbo, home, captain underpants, the bad guys, and ruby gillman fandoms. it's good to see people still love these movies and the fandoms are still alive.

this blog will still be active, but i'm mainly going to be shilling for the wild robot now. i'm worried the movie will be a box office bomb, because when me and my friend saw the movie yesterday, there was barely anyone in the theater. please support the movie if you can!!!!!
