Ray "Crash" Corrigan (the name of both the actor and the character he played) in The Undersea Kingdom (1936), a twelve episode movie serial from Republic Pictures set in the underworld Kingdom of Atlantis.
He's about to be smashed into a wall or something while strapped to the Dreadnaught, Atlantis' lone tank. The tank is driven by the villainous Captain Haduk (who you can see peeking out the window), played by a pre-The Wolfman Lon Chaney Jr.
The Undersea Kingdom was Republic's response to the tremendous success that Universal had with its first Flash Gordon serial, released the same year. However, The Undersea Kingdom had the lowest budget of any Republic serial, just shy of $82,000 (although it ran over budget and eventually cost $99,000), whereas the budget for Flash Gordon was $350,000. And boy, you can definitely notice the difference between the two!
Ironically, Corrigan appeared in Flash Gordon in an ape costume as a creature known as an orangopoid. Much of his early and late acting career was spent playing gorillas (or similar creatures) in his own suits.
I imagine Corrigan had to remove his helmet a lot while filming The Undersea Kingdom when going in and out of buildings/rooms. He was 6'2" tall, and that fin on the helmet added close to 2 feet to his height. It probably made stuntwork especially challenging, too.

"Jaune Gets A Gun AU - Day 2" WarHammer 40K - Bolter/Laspistol
Inspired by @howlingday's RU-JA-GUN-CON
Pyrrha was not happy as she followed behind Jaune, who was following behind Tiny Tina and Ruby. The pair of firearms aficionados (IE Gun Freaks) seem to have found common ground. The pair laughed and joked, remarking about weapons and military forces they had read about in their "Special" magazines.
Pyrrha: (Thinking) Ruby, you traitor! She's the enemy.
Pyrrha tried to refocus, to put her energy into finding a way to open herself up to Jaune. To take that next step. So lost in her own thoughts, she never noticed that Jaune had stopped walking. His eyes being drawn to a strangely placed display...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pyrrha's face was crimson from embarrassment, and the fact that she was now nose to chest with her crush. His scent doing odd things to her...
Jaune: (Groaning) You okay, Pyr?
Pyrrha: (Sputtering) I'm sorry! I wasn't...
Ruby/Tiny Tina: Jaune! Are you okay?
Pyrrha: (Thinking) Oh so that's how it is!
Jaune: We're fine. I tripped up Pyr while I was distracted by... hey, where did that display go?
Tiny Tina: What display, J-Baby?
Jaune: The stack of Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes and Marshmallow Crunch? There was even the "Make Your Own Pumpkin Pete Mask" Halloween special box!
Ruby: Jaune?
Jaune: I'm serious! There was a whole display here featuring Pyrrha!
Tiny Tina: Say what now? Her face is on cereal boxes?
Pyrrha: (Ashamed) Yes, I'm sponsored by Pumpkin Pete... after my third Championship, they started putting my face on the boxes.
Tiny Tina: I see... so would you say you're like famous or something?
Pyrrha: You could say that...
????: Little Brother Jaune, are you alright?
Tumblr media
Pyrrha/Tiny Tina/Ruby: Little Brother?
Ruby: (gasping) You said you only had sisters!
Tiny Tina: I KNOW you only have sisters! Who's the geriatric?
Jaune: (Totally ignoring everyone) Esteemed Brother Julius?
Julius: Aye. Good to see you again, little one. But I ask again, are you unharmed?
Jaune: Just a simple accident. No worries. We're perfectly fine.
Julius: Good. Now, what type of gentleman does not introduce his companions?
Jaune: Right! Introductions. Esteemed Brother Julius, these are my friends. Ruby Rose, Pyrrha Nikos, and Tiny Tina. Pyrrha and Ruby attend Beacon Academy with me. Tina is a childhood friend.
Julius: I greet you. May the God Emperor's blessings fall upon your shoulders, and his grace guide you in your journey through this life.
Tiny Tina/Ruby/Pyrrha: God, what now?
Julius: (Turning his entire attention to Jaune) So why do I find you amidst this chaos?
Jaune: My friends are helping me try and find a ranged option.
Julius: I see.
Jaune: Are you here alone? I only asked because last time you visited you had...
Heavy metallic sounds emanated from behind the small group. As one, they all turned...
Tumblr media
Jaune: Venerable Grand Uncle Bob!
Ruby/Pyrrha: Say what now?
Tiny Tina: When did you get an Uncle J-Baby?
Uncle Bob: (Booming Voice) Little Brother Jaune, it has been a long time.
Jaune: At least ten years! How are you holding up?
Uncle Bob: I grow weary, but the enemies of the Imperium do not sleep, so neither shall I.
Ruby/Pyrrha: (Whispering to Tiny Tina) How did you NOT know he had an Uncle, especially one that looks like that?
Tiny Tina: (Whispering) I wasn't with him 24-7... though sharing his bed during sleep-overs was extra groovy...
Pyrrha/Ruby: What?
Tiny Tina: Plus my parents took me out on trips... a lot... so yeah I only know about his main family, yep like just them... no one else, nope, no one else.
Julius: So you are looking for a ranged option, I believe that is what you mentioned.
Jaune: Yeah. I'm mainly a melee combatant, but not all grimm come in close, so I need something...
Uncle Bob: To share the Emperor's Light to the heathens.
Pyrrha, Tiny Tina and Ruby just stayed out of the conversation, still trying to process everything they just found out, about their shared crush and love interest.
Jaune: You could say that. So why are you guys here? Every time Mom invited you to a family outing, you've been busy...
Julius: That is of no matter, Little Brother. What is your stated lack of a firearm. That will be rectified post-haste.
Jaune: Do you have suggestions on what I type of gun I should look for?
Uncle Bob: Little Brother Julius, it is time. He is of age.
Julius: Yes, as you wish, Venerable one.
Pyrrha/Ruby/Tiny Tina: What's going on?
Julius reaches behind his back and withdraws two items. Opening his massive gauntlet covered hands, he presents them to Jaune.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jaune: No, this is TOO much. I can't.
Julius: Of course you can. This Bolter belonged to Venerable Grand Uncle Bob before his encasement ceremony. As did this, Laspistol. They are, by blood, rightfully yours.
Jaune: I understand that, and I'm so in awe that you guys would do this for me... but what you're forgetting is... MOM.
Julius: Oh, yeah... that.
Uncle Bob: I said I was sorry.
Jaune: Grand Uncle Bob... you crushed Mom's entire Ceramic Cat collection. The one she had been building since she was like five years old.
Uncle Bob: (Sounding Depressed) I said I was sorry, I still am. I just don't know how to make it up to her.
Julius: Little Brother Jaune... do you have any ideas?
Jaune: Helping her replace them wou...
Uncle Bob: A Gyrinx! No, a pride of them! She'll have to forgive me then!
Jaune: Brother Julius, what is Grand Uncle Bob talking about?
Julius: He's going to try and get your mother a xeno pet cat that will boost her psychic abilities, or by the sounds of it... several.
Pyrrha/Tiny Tina/Ruby: Say what now?
Jaune: That might work.
Julius: If we succeed, we will return, and if the God Emperor is benevolent we will have your mother's blessing, and you can receive your Grand uncle's weapons as he wishes.
Jaune: I'll be waiting.
The quartet watched Julius and Grand Uncle, Bob, move off. The milling crowd parting before them like water off the bow of a ship.
Ruby: Was that a Bolter combat rifle...
Tiny Tina: And a Laspistol?
Pyrrha: Grand Uncle?
Jaune: Yes those were a Bolter and a Laspistol, and yes Grand Uncle.
Pyrrha: is that anything like a Great Uncle?
Jaune: Sort of.
Pyrrha: How, sort of?
Jaune: About five generations, give or take.
Pyrrha: Excuse me?
Jaune: So, where to next, guys?
Tiny Tina/Ruby: (Almost in tears) He could have had a Bolter and a Laspistol... but mama Arc says no....
Pyrrha: Jaune, about this Grand Uncle...
Jaune: Guys where to next?
????/????: Hey kids. Over here! We know you wanna!

(So there's the Warhammer 40K addition. I know it's not exactly what was asked, for... but it is what flowed through my mind as I started to write it. Hope that doesn't upset anyone. Hope you enjoyed.)
Almost Forgot!
korben600 asked:
Consider for “Jaune Gets a Gun”, an old Astartes who landed on remnant tries to sell him a bolter.
Jaune settles for a laspistol since that is MUCH more his style.
Thank You for the suggestion/idea. @korben600

SHOW ME YOUR KANS!
Yesterday I found these two boys at the bottom of a storage box, busted up but primed. I re-glued them both and slapped some color on them. The Kan is plastic, the GorkaMorka Mekboy is metal.
Tumblr media
These guys used to be Ork Dreads in the late '80s, now due to scale creep they would be classified as Killa kans. The little fella on the left was the first Ork Dread. The center torso section is a ring and you build the model by stacking rings. The middle guy has the upgrade kit with more torso rings for more Dakka. The guy on the right is from the '90s, still called a Dread, all metal, and the precursor to the Killa Kans.
Tumblr media
In the early rules you could get an Ork Dread with a heavy flamethrower/skorcha, but they didn't offer a part compatible with the Dreads setup. They did make Skorcha Trakks though which is where I pulled the Fire Kan from. He also has plastic powerfists from the first plastic Ork Boys multi-part kit.

My current family of Kans. :)

Recently Viewed: Dreadnaught
[The following review contains MINOR SPOILERS; YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!]
Tumblr media
Although the Criterion Channel’s description neglects to advertise it as such, the 1981 kung-fu horror-comedy Dreadnaught belongs to Yuen Woo-ping’s loosely connected Wong Fei-hung series. Whereas the original Drunken Master featured the historical figure turned folk hero as a mischievous student (portrayed by the inimitable Jackie Chan) and Iron Monkey explored his childhood (as the son of professional badass Donnie Yen), this film depicts him as a wise old mentor—played, appropriately enough, by Kwan Tak-hing, who starred as the character in approximately seventy-seven movies (according to the notoriously reliable Wikipedia’s undoubtedly accurate count, anyway).
The plot (minimalistic as it is) revolves around Mousy, a meek, cowardly youth constantly terrorized by local thugs, corrupt cops, and… adorable puppies. Since it’s his job to collect on overdue bills for his sister’s struggling laundry business, his timid demeanor is a significant problem; thus, at the insistence of a sympathetic friend, he seeks tutelage under the esteemed Master Wong. The perceptive teacher quickly intuits that his reluctant disciple is a naturally gifted martial artist; he merely lacks the confidence required to effectively utilize his innate skills. When a convoluted sequence of events makes him the target of a deranged, bloodthirsty assassin, however, necessity might yet transform our pussycat of a protagonist into a courageous lion.
Tumblr media
Yuen’s greatest talent lies in his ability to convey story and characterization through fight choreography, and Dreadnaught certainly delivers in that regard; every punch calls back to a narrative seed introduced in an earlier scene—a deliciously satisfying display of setup and payoff reminiscent of Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. During the climactic showdown, for example, Mousy discovers that his family’s trademark “two-fingered grasp” technique is useful for more than just drying clothes; his firm grip strength—developed from years of wringing out wet fabric—gives him an unexpected advantage whilst grappling with his savage opponent… until his foe simply rips off the tattered remnants of his shirt, at least.
That deft juggling of tones—effortlessly transitioning between humor and suspense—elevates Dreadnaught, compensating for its relatively superficial flaws (particularly its uneven pacing). Yuen is justifiably renowned for his contributions to The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but I hope that more of his work as a director becomes (legally) available in the West; while his movies may not be conventionally “prestigious” or stylistically polished (compared to those produced by, say, King Hu), they are consistently entertaining.
