Section 1: "Who Taught You to Feel Good?"

The opening section works to analyze how pleasure and the discovery of it is a process that involves both ourselves and the people around us. In the building of this, lineage is emphasized as a way to develop what pleasure looks like to the individual. The part that stood out to me was the exercise of writing up your own pleasure lineage in a form of self discovery. In going through that exercise, I was able to see that mom is the one who first taught me what it means to seek out opportunities for experiencing pleasure and feeling secure in myself. She did not want me to settle or develop dependency on habits that could cause me harm. She struggled with addiction and overcame it knowing she was pregnant with me and wanted to give me the full opportunity to have the ability to experience life and joy. She encourages myself and my siblings to question what we hope for our futures and why. She set an example of living in connection with others while centering yourself and your own experience. My mom had to fight for her ability to be happy in life, and it reminds me that I can be seeking out the same ability for myself. Later in my life, my partner was able to affirm that I am deserving of love. In finding myself in a relationship, I feel that I have grown individually to know what I deserve and can seek out. They remind me constantly to prioritize myself when I often forget. 

This linked artwork is entitled “The Pleasure” from Orhan Atici. It is descriptive of a communicative sharing of pleasure and what it means uniquely for each person. It continuous nature signifies interconnectivity and self discovery. It shows a degree of relying on each other, much like how pleasure lineage are about much more than the individual.
