saw you had asks open, not a drawing request but wanted to know if there was any more story to your human bill’s punishment-for-weirdmageddon-is-to-turn-weak-human au, I really like it (sorry if you explained this a while back, I only just watched gravity falls😭I’m a late-comer to the fandom)

it’s just superepiccool to me, how are dipper and mabel about him being human now? Soos n Wendy, Stan and Ford? What was it like for them (especially Ford) when he just turned human? What was it like for Bill?

oh hey don't worry, I haven't really talked much about the details of the AU like ... ever. I just started reviving it because I got my partner into the show (they are also a new fan! yay, new fans! Funny enough I had no idea TBOB was coming out so the timing was mad exquisite.) and they have just been an amazing help shaping my messy thoughts and coming up with new, fun plots! It's also nice to know there's someone out there interested in it, so thank's for asking! Now that I read TBOB I want to change the premise a bit, but the core is still the same.

Let me tell you this AU is silly. I'm aware Billford is toxic and there are many corners to dive into to picture their messy relationship. But I kinda wanna keep the spirit of the show here and make it equally as fun as it is disturbing. Given that Bill canonically is trapped in endless Therapy gives me even more food to work with, he just out there being toxic and people repeatedly telling him to cut it out.

I'm not gonna go into too much detail because I'm actually working on the first comic chapter for this AU, but regarding the characters: Each of the Pines, as well as Wendy and Soos, are not happy seeing him, but individually grow more accustomed to him and with him. I guess going from "most accepting" to "least accepting", Mabel took it the best. I wouldn't say she was quick to forgive, but quick enough to give the guy a chance. And I honestly have to say that, although this is 100% a Billford AU, there's so many plot ideas for just Mabel and Bill and their amazing, chaotic shenanigans. Put these two together and the stories basically write themselves. Wendy is pretty similar, and the most chill in actually helping Bill figure out human stuff.

Naturally, Ford took it the hardest. I'm aiming for slowburn here, haha. They got to figure out some stuff that I'm so ready to put onto pages... Ford is a lot of emotions. Confused, angered, curious... Meanwhile Stan is Bills biggest hater. (There is a lot of bullying in this AU) He just keeps up with it because his Family makes him. He's very protective and tries to kick Bill out several times. Soos sticks with Stan, but he's also Soos and has a big heart, so in Bills eye, he's very gullible and a target he can mess with easily.

Dipper is not a fan either, he has a hard time adjusting to the triangle just getting to ... be there. He's suspicious for the most part and Bill has to try hard to get on his good side. But honestly he might be more upset with Mabel (and later on Wendy) for making friends with Bill so easily, even though he knows that's just their nature. I just recently started thinking about Gideon and how I'd like to include him, but nothing worth mentioning so far yet.

With Bill himself, one my favorite parts trying to portray so far is how he's dealing with his new mortality. He adjusts to the body fine, he knows how to navigate flesh, but he has a hard time accepting that it's his body. His new prison, essentially. If it's gone, he's gone. If he treat's it like shit, he feels like shit. Then we add the psychological aspect of things. And more importantly, we add Ford to the equation. When I tell you, that demon is experiencing psychological damage here, and it's fully his fault. TBOB really pointed out to me that I need to dive into his obsession with Ford. How do you even get a man you fumbled so bad, to even acknowledge you again?

I love yapping about this AU, thanks again for giving me the grounds to do so anon! I'm an insecure writer so it'll probably take another hot minute to choose which script feels best to draw out, haha. But I'm glad you seem to be up for the ride!!

I HAVE. SO MUCH. CONTENT. Loretta has been an oc I have had for YEARS so I absolutely have SO much stuff on her! Shes definitely my favorite oc alongside Jack, my other gravity falls oc. The short of it is they are forced to work together out of inconvenience by the Axolotl.. The most recent development has been the change in Lorettas ability revolving her sight because I thought it would be so cool if Loretta had the same/similar kind of mutation to Bill. It didn't change much to her character, just another reason why they ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time (time police events. I seriously need to write fanfic of the whole story LMAO)

Their dynamic is SO FUN. They bicker ALL the time and usually are yapping about something. They live together, so I think they argue over the smallest things. When they first ended up needing to work together, Bill was not thrilled AT ALL. He was VERY closed off. Loretta, not knowing this creature at all, just decided to let him do his own thing. It's only after an event where Loretta protects Bill when he's at his weakest that Bill realizes Loretta is harmless and that it wouldn't hurt to try to get some enjoyment out of her company. That turns into an actual friendship, which turns into Bill finding out Loretta is like him. Through this, they open up and become closer because of their similar identities. They just ended up on different paths because of their own mutations AUGH. Bill wanted more, when in comparison Loretta was content with what her world was already like.

Loretta is a demon hunter. She takes bounties from individuals around town to get rid of weirdness. She naturally has a knack for attracting it, so the job is perfect for her. Bill helps her with her bounties; in exchange, Loretta lets Bill drain her energy so he can regain his physical form. I have a whole animatic on my tiktok that shows how the possession works-

They are silly. They fight over what to watch on the tv, they karaoke and drink together, it takes AGES for Bill to actually open up to Loretta, Whenever they decide to share the bed (even though Bill doesn't sleep) he kicks off Lorreta off of it anyway just to frustrate her, they do makeup together, They drive up to one of the hills in gravity falls via Loretta's motorcycle and watch the sunset together. Love them. I have SO many thoughts on their dynamic, but they are there for each other, and despite all their issues, they love each other. They NEVER say it to each other because Bill is deathly scared of that word.

They are an oc x canon ship so they are together as partners TECHNICALLY. Still, I also think they are so messed up via the canon story that an ACTUAL domestic relationship dynamic just doesn't work for the two. Plus, Bill needs help understanding labels and Loretta doesn't need them. Plus there's the Jack situation...Which is a WHOLE OTHER RANT. JACK. AUGH. The love triangle (literally) goes insane. In my happy au they are a polycule asf.

Literally ask ANY questions about them, I might even draw something up if its a fun scenario you guys send,,, I LOVE THAT PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN THE OCS BECAUSE !!!! I HAVE SO MUCH CONTENT FOR THEM.

So I can't stop combining my fixations together. I had to mix Eddsworld with Gravity Falls, since this last one revived haha. Sorry not sorry! As I said on Instagram, this is TOTALLY NOT an excuse for making eduarjon/jonuardo... Yeah, yeah totally not... Anyways, look at these guys, Eduardo as stanford, Jon as mcgucket!!

I have to say these are just my own, personal interpretations for the characters. It's totally OK if you don't think the same as me!! I made this for fun, and oh boy It was so fun while making it and deciding which characters could fit in each other's papers.

To my surprise (not really LOL), I searched if anyone made the same in the past, and I found out they thought exactly the same as me! Tom is dipper, Matilda is Mabel, Stanley is Edd and Stanford is Eduardo. Makes sense to me.

And I thought it would be funnier (and better!) if instead of normal Edd, it was Future Edd. Thinking about an old man like Future Edd, who just wants to die but has to maintain a work for 30 years just to re-meet his brother... That makes me laugh, for some reason. XDD Look at his face. Poor guy!

And for Bill, well, guess who is it here? Tord, because I couldn't think about anyone else! And it wouldn't make sense if he had a human design, because you know what kind of interdimensional, two-dimensional triangle without real physical form he is. Mm, maybe I'm wrong and he could actually have a human form. Should I try making a design for Tord Cipher later?

That one looks silly! He's just Bill, technically red, has a weird hat and Tord's typical band-aid at the right. Didn't know how to draw this one haha

That's all for now! I'm thinking about the other characters. For now, in my mind, Laurel is Wendy, but mmmmm I don't agree too much, idk. Diwi could be Soos, and I'd LOVE seeing Bing and Larry as the stupid police xD

And MAAAAAYBE an unpopular opinion and somewhat obvious?, But I'd love mixing Eddsworld and Gravity Falls characters personalities together and other things that make them unique, not just switching them fully. What I try to say is, for example, I imagine Edd having his obsession with cola as always, Eduardo with diet cola as well. Edd could have his lucky can, somewhere, and he's just as pathetic as Stanley, despite he's usually more pessimistic, dark and irritable than him sometimes. Tom still haves that sarcastic, rude? essence, but is fascinated with mistery and you know, the weird things that happens in town! And he still conservates liking ska bands. You know, some ideas like that!

starting out the year with some squid game au doodles! :)

after seeing a lot of great content with the bad guy Gi-hun au on twitter by ShangGuanAfun & some au's I read, I really wanted to take a shot at drawing a guard Gi-hun! then I started talking about it w/ a mutual & it evolved into the rest of the cast as guards too (her favorites are thanos & nam-gyu so I had to doodle them first!)

I doodled the Gi-hun quickly, just wanting to sketch out a silly idea for a suit! Rank wise he's above the squares (because he's the frontman's favorite) so he gets a fancy fit. He still played in the S1 games so it's a riff off his games, including an umbrella emblem on the front zipper. Rank wise I was thinking he's an X & sorta bounces around tasks and keeping tabs on the other guards

Thanos and Nam-gyu are triangles (somehow) and have become newfound friends this year due to their similar.. interests. They still dance during mingle, much to the wide eyed horror of the traumatized players

I wanted to keep their designs more inline with the regular guards but w/ a little twist for fun!

A/N: I think I may be ticking off two things with this one, idk. The results of the pole had Mikey as most rated and then this came up, which was such a nice coincidence. I might do a second Mikey one shot/head cannon to match the pole again if I feel like it, but for now I will be marking both this and the pole as complete so I can focus on a more special request an anon had for me. ════════════════════

Mikey has always been full of energy and imagination, so it’s no surprise that art became such a big part of his life. At first, it was just something he loved doing for fun, but now it feels more like a part of who he is—how he expresses himself and even how he deals with things. Still, he never treats it like work. For Mikey, art is all about fun and freedom.

Give him anything to draw or paint with—a pencil, spray can, or even chalk—and he’ll turn it into something incredible. His ideas are out-of-the-box and unique, and it’s easy to see how much joy he gets from creating. KEEFE YAAAAAAAAAY i love keefe he cracks me up. i stay away from the ship wars and the whole fitz vs keefe thing, i think they're both good characters with flaws and it is up to you who you enjoy/root for. he is hilarious and i love his silly little coping mechanisms (totally not projecting on him lately). his trauma is rlly important to me and i don't think of him that much but if i had to choose who im most similar to it's him fs. he is definitely flawed as a person, but that's what makes him relatable just like all the other characters. also me and him are kind of twins. blonde styled/fluffy hair, blue eyes, art kid, burnt out gifted, severe mommy issues, same coping mechanisms, immature. yeha i love keefe 🕺 .... hc time ig?

i don't rlly think of him a lot, so these headcanons are pretty impulsive

-bisexual (before the whole sophie love triangle thing i thought him and fitz were 💏. irdk man)

-purposely gets hairspray on his bathroom mirror to make a mess for his dad

-has spent the entire day, multiple times, just trying out new hairstyles (he ultimately decided nothing will outdo The Hair)

-brings a marker everywhere and doodles on ppl, himself, papers etc

-trashes his room when he's mad (also bc of the satisfaction of knowing cassius hates it)

-likes finding little trinkets that remind him of the ppl he cares about

Charity (A/K/A) the "Headset-ter" is a teenage villain with the power to manipulate something or someone's ability to make sound (e.g. she can make someone lose the ability to make sound entirely, she can make herself sound louder, etc.) She got her powers after putting on her wired headset that became enchanted (and wireless) via Maria the Energy Monster, and got motivated to becomes a villain after she got kicked out of her band and swore revenge against them by crashing their show and using her powers to take their ability to make sound away.

Other details about her :

Technically, she still has her powers even when she is not wearing her headset but because she's pretty new to it, she needs the headset to activate her powers. (Though with enough training she could probably use them without it.)

Originally wanted to name herself "The Silencer", but then she discovered that making things quiet wasn't the only thing she could do.

Despite her lack of a disguise, no one can recognize her as Charity.

Her "villain clothes" only appear when she wears the headset (the clothes are part of her powers too.)

Her headset makes her immune to her own powers (especially the ones where she can make things sound louder.)

She has no concept of shame and will do whatever she wants without regard to what people will think of her afterwards.

She is a hopeless romantic.

She is 15 years old.

She eventually joins another band as a drummer.

Speaking of instruments, she can play the drums, bass guitar, accordion, the triangle, the organ, the flute, and the theremin. But she can't sing.

Joined the evil villains association but rarely attends the meetings because she keeps messing with whoever is hosting.

Tammy Ramirez Sining (A/K/A The Painter) is a teenager villain who uses her painting and drawing skills to trick people. Her weapon is a paintbrush that only needs to be filled with paint once, and after that it can pretty much produce it's own paint forever. In her civilian life, she is simply a high-achieving highschool girl who regularly gets straight As (except in P.E.) and leads a pretty mundane life. She got motivated to become a villain after seeing Beatrice Bixby (A/K/A Lady Redundant Woman) do her villain work. Seeing another regular citizen become someone different led her to make her own villain identity, the Painter.

Other details about her :

Her first "evil" deed would be her painting a giant sinkhole in front of a bridge that leads to the venue of a big event in the city. (She did this so that everyone would be tricked into not coming and she would be the only at the event and there would be no lines)

She is friends with Headset-ter and her friends in their regular lives, but she doesn't find out that they are villains too until much later.

She has to wash her white jumpsuit every single day after she uses it. (She likes the white jumpsuit because she wants the paint she uses to drip on it and make her colorful)

She got Hal Hardbargain to make her the paintbrush after she gave him a HUGE deal of money.

She is shy and timid as her regular self, but becomes much more confident when she becomes her villain self. She's willing to be more silly and loose when she's not trying to impress anyone

That being said, she is generally timid and reserved only around people she thinks are constantly judging (e.g. at school, and occasionally at home) but has no problem around people she feels as if she doesn't need to impress (her friends, random people she will never meet again, etc.)

Despite her decent disguise, EVERYONE in the city knows about her being a villain. (She doesn't try to hide it though)

Joined the E.V.A. and regularly attends meetings.

Yes, she runs around the city barefoot.

She has a good singing voice, but she can't show it off because ✨stage fright✨

Also fun fact : Her surname "Sining" is a Tagalog word for art!

Some random art advices:

Being better/less problematic version of other problematic popular artist is also in some way problematic. It's like being a clone, rather than your own self.

Perfectionism isn't a good way for artist's mental health. Patching every little mistake is making people tired. Don't compare your art to other artist, because you two have diffrent styles.

Bad art is also good art. Every artist makes mistakes so every art is bad at some way. We should celebrate it.

Using boxes for round head don't really work with perspective. Use boxes as a shape of face or random shapes like triangle or ball.

Tracing and bases can teach anatomy. But only when you are learning. In online space, not good idea (that means do not post traced or base work).

There is nothing like cringe. It's just playing with art. And if it is, I am proud of being cringe. You should too.

Art commission ≠ professional artist.

For a hobby artist (that are doing it for fun) advice without asking for it, is not needed.

Likes don't mean anything really. Begging for it is not good. Be yourself, create and be happy about it.

It is impossible to steal an artstyle. You can't also steal poses or colors because it exist for so many years. Inspired ≠ tracing.

Art is about learning anatomy, which color work with which, how proportions works. AI can't think, it just takes some of the persons art and glues many parts together.

You don't need to go to art school to be an artist. You can do it at home with many tutorials on youtube.

Cheap art supplies aren't worst than expensive ones. Actually many people draws very good with cheap ones.

If you are tired of working on one art for so long, take a break. Do not pressure yourself to finish it. Go eat dinner, watch a movie, or just move it to another day.

Drawing hands, feet or poses is hard. Look at google images for inspiration or take photo of your own pose. Learning anatomy is not easy.

Fixing someone else's art is not good.

Using too much layers can expand your disc space. You can merge some of them together to make art take less space on your PC or tablet.

If you feel bad about your art, look back at your old art and see how much you improoved.

Silly art/story is sometimes needed.

If you want your art to be seen more, sometimes draw popular game/show characters, draw memes, draw art challenges and holiday arts (like christmas or halloween).

Go back to old arts to feel nostalgia.

You can try for fun more thing you didn't tryed before. Like painting with acrylics/oil paint/watercolors, drawing with colored pencils, drawing with pens, drawing with markers or drawing with mouse. You can even start to like some of it.

Hello Lovelies~ Was ridiculously bored at work, and this silliness was birthed. Please enjoy!

Over the years, you had compiled a list of all the things you most loved about your husband, and somehow, only slightly surprising, his zest for life and the itch to have fun easily slotted its way into your top ten.

 For someone nearing 1000 (a fact you loved teasing him with), you would have thought that he would have grown more reserved by now, bored and listless with the world. But the truth was that he was restless, and rarely allowed for a single dull moment.

 And while you had grown yourself- maturity and social obligations demanding a certain image, he had a knack for making you forget all of it, embracing that whimsy and playful energy that you refused to completely abandon in your childhood.

 Which was what often led to moments like these.

 Gil was sitting across from you at a table in some cafe in Constanța, eyebrows furrowed in an almost comical way as he glared down at the series of incomplete triangles on your napkin.

 A little riddle or trick- you couldn't really decide which- you had briefly remembered from your childhood, one you knew would annoy your husband to no end.

 As much as you loved him, he did have a habit of over-complicating things.

 So far, his guesses had all followed a pattern you had expected: an ECG, a triangular sound wave, and then he rambled off something nearly incoherent involving quantum theory which had you giving him a Look. Seeing your expression at that last one had him offering you an embarrassed half-smile, before he went back to staring at the napkin with annoyance. "I'm going to hate myself when you tell me, right?"

 It wasn't really a question, but you hummed in acknowledgement, fighting and failing to hide your grin. "Probably."

 To his credit, he had more guesses, a couple theories, even asked if it had something to do with your own work, eyes slanting towards you in curious consideration. When you shot that down as well, he huffed melodramatically in defeat, flopping back into his chair and gesturing magnanimously towards the offending piece of recycled paper and its 18 unassuming little lines.

 "Alright; you win. Hit me with it."

 You were enjoying this way too much, but you couldn't help it; he brought out the best and worst in you. "Sure you don't want another guess?"

 "Can't you just put me out of my misery instead?"

 You leveled him with another look, fond and irritated all at once, catching too easily on the smile hidden in his words. "No martyrdom before supper."

 "Wow. Rude."

 Ignoring his comment, you spoke with perhaps a little too much presumption. "Gilbert Wilhelm? Prepare for me to blow your little mind."

 "You already do that every day." You bit your lip at his fond murmur, digging in your pocket for a different colored pen. Carrying an assortment had become a bit of a habit as of late; Gil was constantly losing his, and sometimes you just needed a change from the monotony of black-and-white. 

 Finally, you pulled out a purple, a good offset to the black. Pulling the napkin back into drawing range, you motioned for him to watch.

 You took it slow, intentionally choosing the option that would take the longest for him to guess. He loved puzzles and thought experiments, and you wanted to savor this for as long as possible.

 Starting with the furthest edge, you connected every third triangle with an inverse arc, the temporary image almost reminding you of the base of cartoon campfires. Gil was hovering over your shoulder now, having swapped chairs sometime in the past few moments.

 You paused, intentionally drew your pen away long enough for him to analyze the new data, catalog the latest information. Some part of you had a feeling he would be trying the same trick on Vlad at the conference tomorrow, and you couldn't fight your smile. "Want me to keep going, or do you want another minute?"

 He hummed after a moment- a quiet acquiescence.

 For a moment, you stared at your work in progress, contemplating your next move. With a small quirk to your lips, you scribbled what looked like three clouds, one for the top of each of the tallest triangles.

 "Was zum Teufel," Gil demanded eloquently.

 That was enough to finally make you giggle, turning to him with a smirk and a feigned attempt at innocence. He leveled you with a look of his own, before indicating with a pointed glance that you needed to continue.

 You waggled your eyebrows in playful amusement, now turning to add two dots to each of the three connected shapes, followed by another cloud-like doodle at the based of each of the three tallest triangles.

 As it stood, you could argue for some funky mountains or some kind of sailboat, but you were only half finished.

 "One more guess?" you asked in an effort to be nice, to at least sound like you weren't secretly enjoying his suffering. Instead of a proper answer, your ruse easily seen through, you received a poke at your waist, the lightest threat to continue.

 Biting your lip, trying not to flinch away, you added six arrows- two per shape, each facing the center of its respective shape from the left and the right.

 "Wait..." Gil's voice was scarcely a whisper at this point, teasing your neck. "Are those..?"

 With a small triangle and two quick flourishes each, you announced the final results with pride, no longer holding back your giddy grin. "Behold: Three Cats in Party Hats!"

 It was worth it just to see him bringing his palm to his forehead, hiding his face in his hand. You could see him fighting a smile though, and knew the last few minutes had done more than enough to help him out of his prior languor.

 "I hate you sometimes; you know that?"

 It was too affectionate to be true.

 "Love you, too."

Inspired by my remembering learning this about 20-ish years ago from some random guy while I was helping out at a market stall. He also taught me how to draw a cat by stacking C-A-T atop each other. Anyway, have some kitties~

Shelmet/karrablast lines review?

I'm going to preface this review by stating that I HATE trade-only evolutions. I'll spare you all from an extensive ramble, but the tl;dr is that they're obnoxious, counter-productive, and ultimately only serve to make it harder to get certain Pokemon.

HOWEVER, with that said, these two lines are the only time the idea of a trade-evo actually seems justified due to the way the two interact with each other. It's still not my favorite thing in the world (I feel like they could just evolve by being placed next to each other in one's party), but at least there's a rationale behind it instead of just abritrary decisions on the part of GameFreak.

Anyway, all that aside, I really like Shelmet here, and it's probably my favorite out of these four. The snail combined with a knight theme is super simple but reads really clearly, and the droopy eye and silly mouth give it a lot of personality. The colors are also nice, with the pinks and greens popping nicely against the neutral gray shell.

My only nitpick is related to the typing—this should've been bug/steel, for reasons we'll get into later.

Accelgor has a completely different, more ninja-esc theme, but this makes sense due to the loss of its shell, which was where all the knight theming came from in the first place.

This design is also good—the lines on the head accent the swirled shape nicely, which is also fairly accurate to how a shell-less snail looks. The pinks and greens once again draw attention to the head, and the brooding expression is great.

I'll admit though, something about the lower body throws me a bit. The body being bandaged to make up for the lack of a shell is great, but the actual shape of the body is so... flat and rigid compared to the nice curves of its head. Maybe if it curled a bit at the bottom too it would have a better flow. The bandages are also a bit too dark in color, loosing some of the contrast Shelmet's lighter gray had. Still, it's decent and gets the idea across well enough.

Gotta admit, I'm not a big fan of Karrablast. The idea of a beetle Pokemon makes perfect sense because it's based off of various kinds of beetles that eat snails and/or pupate in their shells, but Karrablast is just so amorphous and generic that you'd be hard pressed to even recognize it as a beetle, which really makes the theme fall apart a bit. Maybe it's just a me thing, as I'm not big on Pokemon with more "ambiguous" body shapes like this.

I also think it should've had more to do with Accelgor thematically. Escavalier "steals" Shelmet's knight theme, so I feel like Karrablast should've also had a ninja-ish theme to match Accelgor.

All that aside, it's okay. The expression is at least a lot of fun with its little fangs, and the colors contrast nicely compared to the Shelmet line's, but the light blue triangle on the head feels out of place and I'm not a big fan of the weird head-pincers. At the end of the day, it's not terrible, but it does feel like the weak link in this line.

Escavalier, however, is pretty fun. Expanding on Shelmet's knight theme, it now has a pair of lances and a large area on top of the helmet somewhat evocative of a feathered headpiece. The shape of this headpiece also helps match with the bottom half of the shell with its curved shape. Overall, a fun execution.

I do think it could've been a bit stronger conceptually though. For one, Shelmet mostly keeps the same palette as it evolves, so it feels like the red accents on Escavalier should've been blue to match its pre-evo; it would also simplify the palette, seeing as it already has Karrablast's blues and yellows on its body.

And secondly, the typing. It definitely feels like the steel-type comes out of nowhere when Shelmet is only bug-type. I think it would've been much better if Shelmet was bug/steel and Karrablast was bug/dark; then when they evolve, it flips, so Accelgor would've been bug/dark and Escavalier's bug/steel now fits with the concept. Minor thing obviously, but it's always bugged me (no pun intended). I still enjoy Escavalier overall regardless though.

As a whole, it's nice to see a line (or lines, in this case) that finally puts the trade evo idea to good use. I think the concept could've been stronger in a few spots, but it's still a fun theme and obvious enough to figure out through the visuals alone.

Anyways, ignoring the previous post, I'm thinking about One Piece Liva Action again. I think that if the live action Zoro and Sanji's body types/bodies switched, they'd be my ideal Zoro and Sanji live action style. In the anime, Sanji is drawn so skinny triangle shaped, and unfortunately, I don't see that visually with Taz. But I do love Taz, so I can live with it.

After watching the Baratie arc in the anime, which I did feel was too long, it kind of made me think that the Baratie arc in the live action was a bit weak. Especially in terms of the story of Sanji. Removing Don Krieg from the Baratie and instead having him be killed by Mihawk is definitely a choice. While for production reasons, I can understand the need to shorten it. But with removing the main conflict in the Baratie, it feels weak. And I think it affects the characterisation of Sanji. While we do have moments of seeing Sanji be loving and care for Zeff, this arc is mainly comprised of him being.. a teenager and being like, "OH, I hate my dad," which is understandable and happens in the anime. But in the live action, we don't see Sanji purposefully taking blow after blow after the safety of Zeff is threatened. He almost sacrificed his life to save Zeff, all while trying to stay strong. We also didn't see much of the found family vibe the Baratie staff have going on! Which sucks! In the anime, Zeff tells all the staff to be cold to Sanji and insult his food right after Luffy offers him a place as a part of the crew. So, he'd more willingly leave because Sanji is stubbornly loyal to them and can't and won't choose himself over them. While he does figure out their idea and does end up going with the strawhats, it's not without an emotional moment of Sanji bowing to Zeff and thanking him. In the live action, there is an emotional goodbye, but it doesn't have the same impact without the scenes I mentioned before and the fact that Sanji was on the boat sailing away, the only reason he opened up to Zeff to say bye was when Zeff called out to him. Which just isn't right for his character.

I also feel the live action went with such a darker look. Which is understandable since it's more of a marketing to a Western audience. It kind of sucks for me since I love the big saturated colours and just silly vibes that the anime has. I think most of the cast does fit within the age range that the chacarers are, except for Sanji, who's meant to be 18-19 at this point. Sanji's character also loses his kind of theatre gay vibe that I like in the anime (inaccurate ref but whatever). I feel like they made all of the cast be much cooler than they are in the anime, which I don't like. They're kids!!!! Let them be silly. Of course, Zoro and Nami may be more gritty and serious because of their stories. They should still be silly and fun like the anime!! The live action loses a lot of spark the anime has. I think there should be more colour and more whimsy in it all. Yes, they're knowledgeable of their skills, but they're also 18-19 mostly. They're going on a grand adventure following silly dreams that seem impossible! There isn't much emphasis on how, kind of, naive the crew is to do this. I think the way the live action is coloured/the mood of it makes their dreams seem like so serious. But they're all stupid silly dreams! "I want to be the king of the pirates", "I want to find the All Blue", "I want to be the world's greatest swordsman", "I want to draw a map of the world", and "I want to be a great warrior of the sea". While Usopp's is more realistic, the way it's phrased and the rest of the crew's dreams are inherently childish. They are dreams I'd expect to hear from my little brother or from my childhood dream journal. And I just wish we visually felt how truly childish and whimsical the crew are at this point of the story.

i apologize in advance if my thoughts on the ship seem very much all over the place lol.

on one hand, i understand the appeal! i have some friends/moots that share beautiful zutara fanart/fics that i very much enjoy! it's a ship that i very much understand it's significance and impact it's had on not just this fandom, but throughout other online spaces and just shipping as a whole.

on the other hand, while i understand the appeal, it kind of shocks me how ride and die people are with the ship, specifically with how massive the ship war is, and the nasty behavior that comes with it.

it's important to note that when the show first began airing, i was only 3, and i was around 7 or 8 when the show ended. i didnt really get into it because of how young i was, besides watching snippets of s2 and 3 on nick and random amvs i stumbled upon as a kid haha.

i had my first real watch of the show about 2 years ago, and while i wasn't extremely knowledgeable on the fandom, i did hear about the infamous shipping wars in the fandom, like whispers in the wind, and how zutara should've been endgame. going in with this knowledge, let me tell you how shocked i was with the lack of canon material in the show regarding zutara. like, i had people tell me there was a legitimate love triangle happening! people still believe that!

dont take this the wrong way! im not saying you have to have a ship be canon, or for it to have a ton of canon material in order to ship it, i love rarepairs and crackships, shipping is suppose to be fun! i know zk gets hate because it isnt a canon ship and i think that's very, very silly. this is more so a response to the "zk shouldve been end game it was robbed from us etc etc", because i'm sorry, but i didn't see this at all while watching the show. it was very clear to me what was suppose to be endgame.

i do understand that it was a different culture back when the show was airing, in the sense that there was tons of marketing material teasing zutara, thus people were upset with the writers when it didn't happen, but it makes me wonder if this is truly the fault of the atla crew, or the fault of the marketing department, and nickelodeon seeing how popular shipping was and asking it's marketing department to hone in on this to draw in numbers. most of the time the people behind a show don't get a say in how the marketing works y'know? ANYWAYS! Back to the actual ship! I don't like when people water down katara and zukos characters for the ship. I don't like the treatment aang receives from more hardcore fans, painting him to be some awful, no good, horrible partner of katara and friend of zuko. zuko and katara are ride and die for aang, if there was an aang fanclub, they're the ones who started it and they're fighting every week over who gets to be president lmao. i really dont like when this treatment gets extended to sokka and toph, treating them like bumbling idiots that katara is stuck with until zuko comes in to save the day because he's 'oh so mature, much more mature then those other 3 fools, and the only one who gets katara' which just. isn't true.

I like when people don't water their characters down and really focus on how chaotic they'd be, or the fact that they're still just teenagers! I like when people don't throw away Aang, and even in a zk universe aang is still close friends with them and their number one supporter. i like when they don't throw away kataras relationship with sokka or toph, and they're still just as important in her life.

final thoughts

it's fine! im not crazy over it but i understand the appeal. shoutout to my zutara moots, love the stuff you create, don't ever stop! besides sharing some zk art, you probably wont see zutara art coming from me, im much more focused on pushing my 'platonic shit talking wine drinking zuko and katara besties' agenda bahaha.
