girl your moon post was so accurate for me too! my father has rohini rising and is such a narcissist and a master at gaslighting. he resorted to manipulating ppl's perspective of me ig so they wouldn't believe me when i started calling him out after a liiiifetime of his crap. he is extremely two faced and a lot of ppl find him really sketchy, but those he manages to fool he fools really well. the only positives of this is that at least i can see these patterns in people easily. frankly, confronting a liar is so taxing bc even if you do manage to outsmart them they'll just make some excuse. like girl. i also know this hasta moon girl that is a pathological liar and every time i see her i just can't take anything she says seriously bc i just always feel like she's lying out of her ass ab the most menial stuff. her family has had issues w her bc she skipped school for months and no one knew ab it bc she would tell such bold lies like, "call my teacher. here, have the phone so you can talk to her ab my grades" and everyone was like, ig she's doing well in school otherwise she wouldn't offer to call? i genuinely worry thinking ab what if i have a kid and they have a moon nakshatra and express it negatively like this omg i'll go crazy. anyways thank you for your post it was so interesting to see such thoroughly explained examples 🤍 it reminded me of ariana grande as well who just seems so shamelessly manipulative to me too. like when she's like "for total transparency i'll say that..." i'm immediately like ok. so you're lying 😂

I know that the antics of bitter antis on stan twitter aren't my problem, and I'm better off out of there, but twitter is still a cultural hub watercooler. And the malice being spread against Misha by certain anti-Destiel/anti-Misha Jensen fans isn't good and I'm going to say so.

One of them is now harassing people, jumping on con report tweets, jumping on a positive tweet from someone saying they hope Purcon has a cockles panel someday.

Another of them, after trashing Misha and assigning malice to him, and trying to spin this into Jensen as the victim Misha and Bobo's sinister scheming with Jensen as their prey, switched over to trashing Wayward Sisters, and then tried to gatekeep The Winchesters as if the only reason it succeeds and is interesting is because it has Jensen's face in it, which is an insult to the entire cast and to all the work Jensen, Danneel, Robbie, and others have put into the series. And then they claimed Jensen agreed with them. (Then they turn around and spam SavetheWinchesters as if they didn't just undermine its creative value. The only reason this type cares about SavetheWinchesters is to parasocialize Jensen, they don't care about the story or the characters). Meanwhile in reality, Jensen keeps bringing up Wayward Sisters, or expressing his own salt about it not being taken to series. Jensen's support for WS was very open and very clear.

Also it seems that Misha is not allowed to make any jokes about Danneel and Jensen, who are his dear friends. Not only is this hypocritical, since Jensen makes jokes about Misha, and I very much doubt these so-called fans enjoy it when people assign ill-will to Jensen for it, yet it's fine when they assign ill-will to Misha. It's also ill-intentioned wank-baiting and ill-will towards Misha. Not to mention how intrusive this is, to believe they get some kind of hateful dictator privileges over Jensen, Danneel, and Misha's friendship.

These so called fans have said some really horrible things about Misha and it's honestly very creepy, verging on the pathological and the paranoid. They have made Misha into a villain. A horrible friend and manipulator. In their heads.

They don't care about reality. They also don't care how badly they're treating Jensen himself, who they claim to stan, they're that far gone. Their lack of respect for Jensen is pissing me off as much as their insults about Misha. I don't think they should be claiming to be Jensen fans if this is how they behave about him, using him this way for their own hate, their own toxic biases.

Underneath it all, this is a bunch of homophobic dog whistling and I am not going to sit by while certain antis who claim to be Jensen's fans try to paint Jensen with the brush of their own hatred.

The queerness of 15.18 is treated by them as something frightening and evil that Jensen and spn are a victim of, with Misha as the bad guy who forced queerness into spn.

Let it sink in what all this drama really is.

On top of how actually gross it is for people to treat Misha and his friendship with Jensen and Danneel this way, to attack those friendships and attack Misha, and invent lies, all because these stans dislike a fictional queer ship.

This is likely a tactic to cause drama and cause division, maybe they're hoping their drama will turn Jensen and Misha fans against each other.

If they think they're doing Jensen any favors with this garbage...they're not.

i have made a good number of friends playing red dead online. in that time a group of us became our own little friend group.

one of those friends became a shithead who was a pathological liar and cheated on his girlfriend with another girl. we all kicked him to the curb and i have become closer friends with both of those girls. the latter joining our small group.

another one of our friends turned out to be a psychotic dude obssessed with the whole "im an alpha male" mindset and was just insane. before he turned out to be a shithead, we met his lovely wife who became a part of our group as well.

there was some drama that happened and a huge fight between us and those two.

the wife contacted all of us about a week ago saying theyre no longer together because he cheated on her and left her for someone else. she was always a good friend and person and apparantly why she also blew up at us was because he manipulated and lied to her. telling her we thought this and that about her. using her accounts to message us and basically force us to block her and make it look bad.

things are healing and shes back with us and im glad because we've always loved her and sort of understood that even if it was her saying that, she took her husbands side. of course none of it was right and it hurt. there was always an underlying suspicion that none of it was from her because while those things could come from him, it was out of character for her. turns out our thoughts were right.

but what are the odds that 2 guys we were friends with first, turn out to be shitheads and we end up closer to their partners that we met later on?

thats what i cant stop thinking about. if i had a nickle for everytime it happened, id have two nickles which isnt a lot but its weird that it happened twice

Fiendish Friendships

Tumblr. Tumblr, Im in a real spot. Not a big life changing thing, just one of those significant things that socially awkward and socially anxious people like me are not equiped to deal with. Let me start from the beginning. 3 years ago, Ive moved to a new area to live with my love. I know no one around and have no friends closer than an hours drive away. Alex has a friend at work in a long term relationship with a lady Alex thinks I’d get along with. We all hang out, and hit it off great. We’re all fast friends, hanging out all the time and everything is great. Till the honeymoon phase of friendship wears off. Alex doesnt like her anymore. Shes a pathological liar, drama queen, bandwagon girl, selfish, self centered, irresponsible and ‘a bad influence’. For a long, long time, I argued with him. “People arent perfect, she’s still a good person and friend, I dont want it to hurt your friendship with her husband,” and so on. I was trying to find that line of whats forgivable when youre friends with someone. For a long time, she was worth it. Then she started getting worse. Steadily increasing all the things I struggled to accept in her, and canceling our plans with lame excuses and lies. She became a bad friend. So finally one night, when one of her lies put me in a bad spot with our roommate, I had had enough.

I was not kind, Tumblr. I keep a fierce hold on my temper because I know how I can be when I don’t. I know the reprocussions of losing your temper, and I know I get extreme when I do. But even with that in mind, I meant everything I said. I called her out on her lies, her manipulations, her everything. I told her what I really thought and how I really felt. I know I didnt handle it like I should have. I was not adult or responsible about it, and I was far from kind.

By promising to do and be better, she convinced me to try to be friends, with the condition that I do call her out on her lies and misbehavior. Long story short, shes now a completely absent part of my life. I tried for a while to still talk and see her, but it was obvious that she had no intent on following through, so I quit. Fast forward again, and Alex and I never really talked about what happened, but he brings it up one night after seeing her husband. 'It has changed our friendship, and Im really upset. I think you were wrong and I wish you hadnt stopped seeing her.’ It broke my heart. I have a really hard tome communicating verbally at all, much less when I’m upset. Long story short again, he knows my side and how much it upsets me, but I feel like we’re still not on the same page about it. END DRAFT

My thoughts now, something like 9 years later- Alex had this habit of bait and switching me. I can see it now. He had been pushing me to stop being friends with her, and when I finally quit, he was mad because it affected his friendship with her husband. I know that the way I went about things couldve been done better, but now I know he just wanted me to play nice when he wanted nice. To pretend everything was fine, but just stop hanging out with her or having a real friendship without the reality of the breakdown of that friendship. Maybe he thought that disconnecting softly wouldve led to a different outcome, and maybe it wouldve, but I didnt know what he expected of me, and my relationship with this woman was my own.  I ended things with less decorum than I shouldve. I lost my temper because again, someone I loved was actively hurting me. 

How does that depth of love and hurt end calmly? Maybe when I have more peace within myself I’ll know the answer to that.

Why Lila is Marinette’s Own Fault || Miraculous Why?

(Before I begin, note that this is my opinion over the topic and am no way am bashing anyone’s love for the ship and/or character. I respect who and what you like, therefore expect the same courtesy. However, if this is something you cannot handle, please click the back button as this will be a heavily discussed topic. No flames allowed. Other than that, enjoy.)

So usually in the story, there’s always one or two mean girls who is out to get the main character for some kind of superior reasons to justify. And there’s no reason as to why they act this way just for the sake of being mean.

Like the Ashleys from “Recess”, who tend to pick on kids just for the fun of it sometimes or cause they’re popular.

Same can go for Libby from “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” who was out to get something for what she wants or just to be superior to the other kids in school.

For Miraculous, we already have that kind of character, Chloe Bourgeois, who is the daddy’s girl of the Mayor to get what she wants. And until we had some small character development in season two (which season 3 took it away!!), we had no reason feeling sorry for her and she was just for the convenient plot in the social life for Marinette in the series.

And then… there’s Lila.

Before I get into hand in this, let me note that Lila is not a good person at all in the show. She’s a liar, a manipulator and will do whatever she can to get what she wants. She breaks into homes, steals and molests pretty models. She’s been pretty shown to be just selfish without consequences and unless we get a background story of why she acts this way, she has no excuse. Especially when she teams up with hawkdaddy to now have permission to invade and spy on Adrien whenever she wants? Fuck that.

So in Volpina, Lila is introduced as this pathological liar to get attention in season one. She obviously goes for Adrien cause he’s the famous model after all. Reasonable considering as the new person looking for attention, you seek out the most popular/famous person in the school. That would Adrien.

Though considering with her connections, it would’ve been smarter to try and impress Marinette instead if Lila did her research before she came into the scene. But of course, new person so she wouldn’t know, but whatever.

And we can see Lila easily just says things just to get Adrien’s approval and such.

And so, Marinette follows them around (stalking? really?) because Tikki points out Lila has the book Adrien took from his father’s vault and threw it in the trash.

Now the SMART thing to do would’ve been to see how Adrien would handle the situation and wait for him to leave, if to acknowledge Adrien has a mind of his own and knows when to walk away (which he does). Or at the very least, try to distract them as Marinette while Tikki retrieved the book.

But… no. You transform into Ladybug to lash out at a girl PUBLICALLY, for anyone including Adrien to hear, just to embarrass her and call her out on her lying because she… “hates liars”.

Marinette, you fucking lie ALL the time! Most of those times to Adrien! And I’m not just talking about when in regard to being Ladybug, you hypocritical- (groans)

I can list plenty of episodes: Gamer, Aninmaestro, Ikari Gozen and hell, even Reverser counts! If she hadn’t lied about Marc’s book, Nathaniel wouldn’t have torn it! (sighs)

And before you all start jumping at me saying Lila got what she deserves, I only agree partially. Ladybug, as a public figure and heroine, practically the face of Paris, acted irrationally lashing out at a bystander because of lies which were or were not believable. Lila was broadcasting a post or making the news, she was trying (poorly) to impress a boy. Ladybug gave Lila the Regina George treatment.

Yeah, so you caused an akumatized situation and Lila hates your guts. Hell, I would hate you too. That’s like a celebrity jumping at an innocent bystander when they’re whispering to their friend about a rumor that only the two of them were talking about. You can’t jump to try and stop them and should just let it dispel on its own. At that point, Lila had no real power but you just influenced her.

And… oh boy did things get worse because of this.

Look season 3 was trash (except for moments in certain episodes) and I feel talking about the infamous ‘Chameleon’ physically hurts me but… yeah gotta point out a few things. The whole episode was unrealistic, and it was an obvious ploy to be sympathetic to Marinette with Lila back… but… you’re not fooling me.

So, Lila is still on her lying game, being able to fool the students and the staff?! Okay if you believe a student has so many disabilities without any paperwork proof, you can actually get fired for that for fraud. As someone who worked with education before, that’s just pure incompetence.

So yeah, Marinette comes to school seeing the seats changes to accommodate Lila and upright begins to plot to discredit her for her lies. UM… what happened to trying to start over with Lila after failing to do so the first time?

Oh, that’s right. She gets that way (at least partly) because Lila is sitting next to Adrien. I can understand if it was because they rearranged the seating without her say so but let’s face it. Lila sitting next to Adrien was her real trigger.

So since Marinette failed to acknowledge her mistake the first time, she spends all day trying to prove Lila is lying and in return the class is angry at her. Alya even comes to point out that Marinette is jealous of Lila.

And you know what? Alya is right.

Alya knows at least what Marinette is capable of doing so when it comes to Adrien and how far she’s willing to go. Remember that Alya is the one who encouraged her to break into his locker and steal his phone. So of course, she’s worried Marinette is gonna do something to the new girl.

I don’t blame Alya for doing one of the most competent things in the show: Warning Marinette to NOT go off the handle without proof and not make herself look bad in the process.

And because Marinette failed to do so… she made Lila her enemy AGAIN. It was bad enough you had her as your enemy as Ladybug, but now you get to deal with twice the drama!

Also, the advice Adrien gave? I don’t blame for him for it and neither should you. Yes, his advice is not perfect, but with the options he has on his plate, its hard to do something otherwise.

For every encounter Adrien has had with Lila, it ended up with her being akumatized or a disaster no matter how he tried to handle her. We didn’t get to see how he would resolve in Volpina because of Ladybug’s intervention, but he would try at least in Chameleon and try to get her to see she didn’t need to lie and actually tried to befriend her. At this point, Lila was already triggered by Ladybug and Marinette so she just might have to take Adrien by force instead.

At that point, Adrien just wants to stay away and which he was trying to tell Marinette don’t interact with Lila or confront her cause there’s no way to do so at this point. Maybe he was trying to tell her to wait until her rumors got discredited, but he didn’t say it clear enough for her to understand.

And keep in mind, Adrien is a sheltered child with little to zero social skills taught to him by Nathalie and Gabriel. Hell, we don’t know how his childhood was really like even with Emelie around either and Adrien seems more like the pacifist unless he needs to absolutely step in. And he did by cleaning up Marinette’s mess in ‘Ladybug’. So now he’s gotta suffer being around Lila more because of Marinette making Lila her enemy.

But once again, this is bad writing as the writers of the show obviously forgot what it’s like to live in reality. In the real world, Lila would be immediately discredited without any proof the moment she came back. Not to mention, some of the class have their own connections and have more braincells proven in the previous episodes. Google search and such. A 5-year-old wouldn’t believe these lies in these times. Hey, I believe that because I once had a kid in kindergarten during my time as an afterschool art teacher look at one of my books I illustrated before and said they liked the ‘graphics’.

The only reason anyone would believe Lila’s lies is if she’s magically influenced with some kind of ‘silver tongue’ spell or something and honestly? It looks like that’s the reason.

I dunno if Thomas Astruc or Zag is trying to insult the kids/adults or insult themselves to say Paris people aren’t that smart. If it’s the latter, you should see what you are doing because I don’t want to believe that because that’s disrespectful.

I know it seems I’m trying to stand up for Lila this portion, but I’m just looking things in a  more realistic and logical way. Did Lila take things too far? Yes, waaaayyy too far and should be arrested for it since she works for Hawkmoth. But it could’ve been handled better and that makes Marinette at fault too.

Part of me wonders if she’s done this before because in Zombiezou, she also causes Chloe to ruin her gift for Ms. bustier. If Marinette didn’t antagonize Chloe in the locker in front of the class, maybe she wouldn’t have done anything. Again, I’m not saying Chloe was justified, but if that was the reason, yeah I can see her doing it for payback.

So to all those fics where I’m supposed to be ‘Boo-hoo’ for Marinette because of what Lila did? Fuck you guys because you need to dig deeper into the story to see both sides and not just make it a pity party where Marinette is the innocent victim.

That's how the Big Four accounting companies came to sign off Carillion's fraudulent books. The company hid £7b worth of debts, took on management of vital government services up and down the country, then collapsed, leaving the nation stranded.

For the Big Four, Carillion's collapse was a feature, not a bug. After all, the only accounting firms large enough to oversee its bankruptcy were...the Big Four, who billed millions for cleaning up the mess left behind by their own fraud.

Accounting fraud is in Facebook's DNA. After all, this is a company whose primary sales-pitch is, "We will count everything you do and then charge people to help them sell you stuff."

This proposition is intrinsically hard to evaluate. How can a customer know if their FB ad generated a sale, or whether it was an ad elsewhere, or random chance, or even that elusive beast, customer loyalty?

The main source for the belief in Facebook's efficacy is...Facebook. It's not a neutral party, and the accountants who sign off on its books have repeatedly shown themselves to be untrustworthy.

Here's the latest scandal: since 2018, FB's been defending a class-action suit brought by its customers who claim that FB lied about "potential reach" - that is, how many users would see their ads.

And while FB strenuously denies that the inaccuracies in "potential reach" metrics were just normal, unpredictable variations in user behaviors, a whistleblowing FB product manager has produced emails in which they warn execs that they're committing fraud.

The execs who got these memos rejected them, telling the product manager that acting on them would have "significant revenue impact" - that is, "Our customers wouldn't buy our products if we were truthful about them."

The fraudulent reach figures begat fraudulent revenues, and those revenues were fraudulently reported to investors. Those investors will now take a haircut if FB loses in court.

Accounting fraud's pathology is bimodal: it abets the wage-theft and austerity that harms the poorest and most vulnerable - but also the reporting scams that harpoon finance's biggest whales.

It's a curious alliance of interests. For now, it seems like Big Tech is going to be antitrust and anti-corruption's harbinger, but I wouldn't count accountancy out - it's got exactly the right kinds of enemies to fire sustained political will.

Of all the things that confused me for a long time, among the most confusing was Scott/Posey Stans’ simultaneously held beliefs that Scott McCall would be the bestest werewolf ever and yet somehow remain a toxic human disaster worthy of pity. All the things that make Scott McCall that disaster – his insecurities, his lack of empathy, his bigotry, his hypocrisy, his abusive tendencies and behavior, his possessive instincts – also make him an absolute horror as a werewolf.

How many times did Scott lash out in anger at people he professed to care about just because they didn’t do what he wanted them to do? How many times did Scott lie and conceal important information from others for his own benefit? How many times did Scott’s mother, girlfriends and friends complain about not being able to help if they don’t know? How many times did Scott charge headlong into situations with no plan whatsoever solely focused on fulfilling his own emotional needs? If it wasn’t for Stiles and Derek, Scott would have been killed off by the hunters and by Peter Hale after exposing his own kind during one of his jealous fits/dick measuring contests with Jackson in Season 1. If it wasn’t for Stiles and Derek, Scott would have hurt Allison and killed Jackson out of jealousy.

Scott knew that becoming a werewolf gave him the power to protect the people he cares about (which includes managing their image of him) and the power to force said protection on them. Teen Wolf S5A and B proved that Scott McCall will lie and manipulate and cheat and gaslight and commit premeditated murder to keep things under his control until he can’t any more; then he’ll explode, whine, throw another one of his self important temper tantrums, and attempt to blame others for his own failures. Why do you think Scott McCall’s body count is higher then the villains’?

Remember how Scott reacted when he found out that Isaac liked Allison? Isaac was a goner the moment he interacted with “HIS” woman. Scott never ever had the slightest hesitation (or any regret) about physically punishing him. Dead man walking. In fact, the only reason Scott stopped abusing Isaac in front of Melissa was because he started preying on the new girl on campus and, quoting Tyler Posey’s own words, “Kira is a good distraction for Scott.”

Perhaps that’s what Scott stans mean when they wax lyrical over how much of an incredible wolf and ‘true alpha’ Scott makes in self-insert Scott McCall Supremacist fan fiction after self insert Scott McCall Supremacist fan fiction: they admire how many innocent people Scott murders and how many abuse victims Scott maims, abuses and violates while working out his delusions of grandeur, pathological jealousy and emotional issues.

Scott McCall had that 10-episode span where he plotted/conspired with Deaton and Gerard Argent against Derek Hale and his Pack behind everyone’s back; which culminated in self proclaimed hero and ruler of Beacon Hills Scott violating Derek’s boundaries, bodily autonomy and consent and committing premeditated attempted murder just because: “He threatened my mom! I had no choice!”

And yet, the Scott McCall defense squad trolls are adamant that Scott immediately flipped an emotional control switch and resolved all his issues. Of course Scott McCall wouldn’t lash out and savagely attack the moment his friends chose to kick his whiny ass to the curb for good or suggested that Scott didn’t have the right to make their decisions for them. Nope! Ice-cold control. Clear loyalties, superior morality and leadership skills. A good, nurturing friend, boyfriend and werewolf and a true blessing to the pack. /sarcasm

While canon shows us that Scott McCall is a flop wolf (even his only beta Liam and his girlfriend Malia called him a failure to his face in Season 5), everything in canon confirms that Stiles Stilinski would make a magnificent werewolf. Born Wolf Peter Hale has always known this – that’s why he offers Stiles the Bite in Season 1 and then shamelessly admits that he NEVER stopped fantasizing about biting/turning Stiles in Season 6.

In conclusion: if Teen Wolf had revolved around the Hale Pack and family and werewolf Stiles and/or Dark Stiles & Void Stiles like viewers wanted, it would have been a better and much more interesting show than whatever Scott/Posey crap-show we got (and it would have lasted longer, too.)

The Teen Wolf writers and producers should have killed Scott McCall off in Season 1 Episode 1 and replaced him with Vernon Boyd or Kira Yukimura instead.

Ohhh, do I have opinions about… all of those things. So, in no particular order:

Hale pack; Hale pack 2.0; werewolf Stiles; pretty sure I answered Boyd as the MC before; Kira; 

Did I ever actually post that TW would have to deal with fundamentally different themes if Stiles/Allion were bitten instead or did I just go nope NaNo project?

Okay, let’s see, how would a show that actually focused on worldbuilding, werewolf dynamics/culture outside of “I’m the alpha now”, and pack-as-family be more interesting than a show about what is either the most hilariously bad excuse for a Good Guy™, or an unsatisfying good guy turned villain story that didn’t realise that we were actually interested in the character’s lives outside of Scott?

With the Hale pack 2.0, the show would be about rebuilding that, about human and werewolf norms clashing, and finding a middle ground that isn’t “you’ll heal/werewolves made them do it”.

Because TW does have so much potential for all those things, but Scott’s not interested in them unless it directly affects or benefits him; but we never see non-abusive pack dynamics.

And this might just be because I grew up with wolfblood/still haven’t finished the order, but actually seeing that kind of pack bonding/history outside of “let’s save the day” is so much more interesting.

Werewolf!Stiles is interesting, because I can and have seen it both ways with a pretty even split?

(I’ve also answered Stiles saying yes to the bbite at least twice now, and that answer hasn’t changed. Unless it’s time travel. post5a/b Stiles asking Peter or Derek for the bite would be hilarious.)

First off, “Stiles would kill everyone he lies about giving a shit about!1!1!” is absolutely hilarious, given that Scott was the one who tried to kill Stiles, hurt and only didn’t kill Jackson because Derek and Stiles interfered, hurt Isaac, because of “control issues”. But sure, Stiles is the one who would kill everyone on sight. /sarcasm

Okay, so. Stiles wants to be part of this world, does everything he can to learn about it and knows when you can’t do something because werewolves. He has also shown that he’s willing to make sacrifices (skipping the lacrosse game in 1x9(?)/Eichen House in 3b/the relationship with his dad) if it meant keeping people safe, because he knew not doing those things would hurt people more than they could benefit him. 

(Meanwhile we have Scott “being bullied” into playing lacrosse/not caring if The Darkness™ hurt anyone— Isaac or anyone at school/lied to his mom, Allison, Kira constantly. Go figure)

Other than that, I honestly can’t tell how much control I would want canon!Stiles to have. Because with fic, I could go either way, for obvious I need to fixate on something other than adhd and werewolves, please, reasons, but canon? I don’t think perfect control on at least the first full moon is something that's actually possible given, you know, canon. And depending on if you go with Stiles being bitten instead of Scott, it’s not a particularly interesting story. 

But everything in canon suggests that he would be self aware enough to know that, and not go to a party like a certain other person I will not name here.

But that’s one of the main— issues I have with this line of thinking. It’s always how would this compare to Scott. You always outdo the other, when you can’t really compare it in the sense they are both very different people, who are going to handle the same situation very differently. Scott’s go to response when Shit Happens is to avoid it for as long as possible by distracting himself with school/lacrosse/gf of the season; while, despite for that throwaway line, Stiles always needs to be there— he researches werewolves, stalks Theo, helps the Hales. 

As I said before, neither is the most thought out or safe option, both are a normal response, but you can’t— It’s hard to compare them because Scott got bitten “because of” Stiles, and didn’t have any how to werewolf 101 he really listened to. While with Stiles it’s either a) him getting “himself” bitten that night and being excited about it, b) him wanting the bite, knowing what to expect, with a lot less trauma, c) getting bitten without consent but with that understanding of what is happening.

Now, Kira’s story is something I would pay good money to actually see done right. Because can you imagine of they did kill off Scott in 3a, and Kira had to navigate a) BH’s drama, b) coming into her own powers, c) actually dealing with not being fucking told about that, and d) not being fucking lied to end just getting yeeted into the desert?

So, I know I did a Twitter thread about the ways Daniil is manipulated in Classic, and I thought I’d put it on here too.

I’m going to stop short of calling it gaslighting here though, because too many people are using that term who don’t really understand what it means. Gaslighting is specifically a form of abuse where the intention is to make the victim feel they are going insane. Not all manipulation or abuse is gaslighting - which doesn’t make it less bad, just...not gaslighting.

That being said: in Classic, there are quite a few times where Daniil can say that he thinks he’s losing his mind, and there are times when the game seems constructed to make you feel this way. Particularly I had in mind the ending of the game, and not just the part where you find out you’re a toy and always have been (that falls more under cosmic horror). What bugs me about the end and how that fits into things, is the fact that the Sand Pest and its outcomes have been chasing you - the clouds, the angels, the muggers, the firestarters, the rats, literally chasing you through houses and through town, only for all of it to completely vanish without a trace on the exact day you’re meant to give a solution to it all. I made a point on Twitter about how people attempting to gaslight you will submit you to a large amount of damage - physical, verbal, emotional, take your pick - and then remove the abuse and any signs of it just before they’re caught. it’s how they show to others that it’s you who’s the problem, not them. 

Regardless of whether you think the intention is to make Daniil feel he’s losing is sanity or not, the question would be who is manipulating Daniil, and why? There are a couple answers.

The first answer is the Town. The first playthrough as the Bachelor of the game is probably the closest fitting to psychological horror as the game gets. Like Silent Hill, the Town is full of horrors that seem tailor-made to torture Daniil specifically: most of these people are uneducated (the Town doesn’t even have a school), their cultural beliefs (mostly appropriated from the steppe culture) actively prevent him from doing his job as a doctor, his word and name are constantly weaponized by people with ulterior motives, and men run around on the first two days beating women to death or burning them alive and intervening actively costs you reputation - which you need to do anything. He arrives with the hope of finding evidence to keep his lab opening and, as we later learn, keep himself from execution, only to find that both the man who would serve as this evidence and the colleague who informed you of his existence have been murdered just before your arrival. You have a lot of things riding on your success, and everything about where you are is actively working against you. The government wants you to find a cure single-handedly, but the Town has other plans for you. 

And those plans are: errand boy, and scapegoat. People throughout the Town will inform you that they are scared of you when you’ve barely interacted with them, let alone in ways that should inspire fear. It doesn’t matter how good your reputation as Daniil is (and through the course of the game, there’s very little you’re made to do that lowers your reputation, and it never gets bad enough for you to be attacked on the street or refused sale from shops), what matters is the fact that everyone in Town, from the nameless NPCs to the rulers, are putting every bad thing they’ve done down as being your fault. 

But the Town has another way it’s manipulating Daniil, by almost making him a member of it. I don’t think I got a screenshot, but I’m sure that somewhere along the line Daniil comments that he’s starting to talk like one of the townsfolk. You can see this happens to Andrey, too, later in the game; he talks in what Daniil calls “Griefisms”. 

You have been sent here to fight an adversary that inherently cannot be beaten - in foolish hopes that a miracle would happen and your outstanding mind would stumble upon a once-in-a-million chance. And just so that you wouldn’t give up, they kept insisting that the adversary must be destroyed. Do you see how insidious the Powers That Be are?     > But why? Their motives are becoming less and less comprehensible to me by the day.

The second answer is the Powers That Be.

Three people enter the Town that the Powers That Be want to get rid of: the Bachelor, the Inquisitor, and the Commander. It wants them all to fix or solve or demolish something in the town, and doesn’t really care what happens to any of them. Pathologic 2 spells it out clearer for you that Aglaya, Block, and Daniil will all be executed upon return to the Capital if their answers are not what the Powers That Be want to hear. And for the time that you are in the Town as Daniil Dankovsky, the Powers That Be - like the town itself - actively work against you. The trains that are meant to bring food and medication never, to my knowledge, arrive, and most days bring about a new letter from the Powers spelling out for you how disappointed in you and your progress they are. Some of the ways they attempt to manipulate Daniil through these letters are subtle, but most of them are unsubtle suggestions that what he’s been able to accomplish is not good enough, that he was meant to work alone.

Even one of your first letters from them is suspicious; early on in the game, they write to let you know that they are in no way responsible for the outbreak, which is an incredibly suspicious thing to say. What is the point of sending such a letter? Would the player have really thought that they were if they hadn’t suggested as much through denial? After all, what called you to Town was a letter from Isidor Burakh. But yet, the Powers That Be are the ones who leave you stranded in the Town with limited resources, no help, and constantly shifting goalposts. Aglaya makes this clear to you when she arrives: you were never supposed to be successful. 

The letters from the Powers That Be do not serve any purpose other than to upset Daniil, and most if not all of them contain lies: that a train will be arriving, that they don’t mind if you have help in carrying out your plans, that Thanatica still exists, referencing conversations you’ve never had, signing drafts of letters you didn’t consult on with your name. One of the reasons i had put this down as gaslighting is because people who gaslight like to keep you off balance and emotionally fragile so that you’re easier to manipulate. You’ll do whatever they want to make the feeling stop, because you just can’t handle the stress anymore, and in the process you come across to others as unreasonable, unhinged, crazy, dangerous, so that no one will trust you. And that’s exactly how Daniil starts to come across to the townspeople: deranged, strung out, dangerous, untrustworthy.

You can contrast all that to a different letter they send you where they claim to be proud to call you one of your own. Combine the two, and you get honeymooning. They want to remind you of the good (or at least, not-as-bad) times you’ve had with them. This behavior serves two, sometimes three purposes: to keep you off balance from the violent back-and-forth, dizzying nature of what they’re doing to you, and so that you’ll defend them to people who can see what’s going on and want to get you out of it. You’ll even convince yourself that you’re not really being mistreated. If you were being abused, would they be so nice to you? 

You are the last friend our family has. I hope our attachment to you doesn’t look obtrusive.      > It requires too much from me. I’m not comfortable with it.     > No, not at all. 

The third answer is the Kains. Specifically, Georgiy and Maria repeatedly manipulate Daniil, though I’ve no doubt in the text above Victor stating their attachment to Daniil is also a manipulation, and one possibly planned by either or perhaps both of them. The text above probably looks normal, but think about the purpose it serves: to reinforce that Daniil is friendly with the Kains. Your only two options are to say that it doesn’t bother you, or to express that you feel your boundaries are being violated by their attention. But I even thinking about picking that option... Well, it feels mean. 

Throughout the game, people will comment on Maria’s attachment to you and what they feel is your predestination to be romantically paired with her. All this, despite the fact that you don’t really interact with her that much. I’ve seen this be explained as forced heterosexuality, but I think it also is a way of the Kains manipulating Daniil into doing what they want. Daniil gets upset whenever people cry; when children cry, he tries to calm them and fix whatever’s upset them - there’s an entire sidequest after the army arrives in which Daniil kills a group of soldiers, spurred into action by upset children. Whenever he encounters Maria crying, he reacts with discomfort, and she uses these tears and upset to manipulate Daniil into thinking Aglaya has lied to him, effectively distancing him from one of the only people in the game with a rational mind to show him support and tell him the truth. I don’t think the two are in any way unconnected. Something abusers, manipulators, gaslighters love to do is isolate you so that you only have one source of information to go to. If they cut you off from other people, they can continue to feed off of you. You’ll never have a chance to question if what you’re being told about yourself or others is correct, you’ll just be a constant supply of drama for them. 

DANIIL: Was there any particularly notable backstory? I’m deadly tired of all these people. They’re inhuman. They tell the future, believe in walking zombies, and die in all manners of painfully abnormal ways. 

AGLAYA: Your line of thinking is obviously fallacious - and I was implying something rather mundane. I promise you no one can really tell the future around here and neither are deaths inspired by third parties uncommon. Mysterious phenomenons do occur here sometimes... but hardly more often than anywhere else.

You can see, first, the effect all this has had on Daniil, how dispiriting the past several days have been to him. But you can also see here exactly why a family that prides itself on multi-generational reincarnation and manipulation through “fortune-telling” wants to keep its blunt instrument in the dark. 

That is, ultimately, why they are manipulating Daniil. Georgiy knows full well when he tells Daniil at the beginning that everyone, even himself, will lie to Daniil, that being that honest upfront is more likely to lead Daniil to trusting him. They want to sway him to their cause; this is why you are told that your success here depends on the wellbeing of the people Maria considers useful: herself, her father and uncle - who she gets out of the way later on to come into her power, the architects of the Polyhedron - which she will use to ascend to power, and the theatre director who has pledged himself to be her loyal servant. Eva’s on the list, too, but her inclusion was deliberately set up to make you depend on the Kains later in the game, considering that it’s Maria who convinced her to commit suicide:

DANIIL: Why did Eva die then? AGLAYA: I have a distinct suspicion she was made to die. DANIIL: By whom?  AGLAYA: One of the Kains. I’d even go so far as to claim that they may have performed human sacrifice.

It’s a two-for-one deal: try in vain to make a Focus of the Cathedral, and remove from Daniil the last piece of influence who was not totally in love with Maria. Maria “cries” and is “upset” at you for thinking Eva’s death is her fault, but no one directly tells you Maria is responsible - all Aglaya does is tell you the Kains are at fault. The rest is just you remembering how nasty Maria was about Eva at the beginning of the game. I wouldn’t even say that Maria was removing a rival for Daniil’s affection. She really does only view Daniil as an object: if you speak to her on day 12, she assumes that you’re leaving, and doesn’t even ask you to stay (for kicks, contrast this with either ending of Pathologic 2 when you speak to Daniil as Artemy, where he’s supposed to be your rival. what was all that about Maria being in love with you...?); he’s not even present in his own ending cutscene. Even Mark Immortell says you’re leaving -

And actually, that’s a really fascinating conversation you can have with him on day 12. It’s where the game outright admits exactly what Aglaya told you: it’s all fake. Maria cannot really see the future, you’ve just been manipulated the entire game to achieve someone else’s goals, and unless you’ve gone around and saved Artemy’s or Clara’s bound, it’s too late for you to turn back and make a different decision. If you’ve picked Daniil’s ending, you just destroyed an entire town on the basis of outright lies.

Tobuscus went silent because everyone told him to and it didn’t go well for him. He was canceled until Greg talked to him and told him to defend himself. He did and he prevailed. - If you don’t hear both sides of a story you shouldn’t have an opinion. - He thinks he broke records about how many people hate him on Youtube. - He stayed silent because people he cares about told him to, but things are getting worse so it’s time he tells us what happened in the coming videos. - Shiloh: He called the police on her when she said she was going to kill herself and make it look like he did it. This is the second time he called the police on her. First time she said he was being abusive. He says he wanted to be alone and locked himself in a room and she started body slamming herself against the door. He says this is all documented in his old videos, Shiloh body slamming the door and him calling the cops to prove he’s not abusive. - Another ex of Shiloh’s made a video and said she did the same thing to him, but he ended up going to jail. Allegedly when he went in front of a judge they found a text from Shiloh talking about how she plotted to pin someone down for abuse. -He said it’s not his responsibility to look all this up. It’s up to us to look at all the videos and confirm it ourselves. (lol what ??) Says he doesn’t want to make a docuseries about his exes because he dumped them for a reason. - Shiloh started a gofundme. (he doesn’t finish this thought) - She’s been diagnosed with severe stuff. Guesses she has BPD or is a pathological liar. Says she was taken into custody by the police and put in a medical facility and the officer told him to escape because evicting her would take too long. He went to LA. While he was going she called and asked where he was. She said an alleged gang she was in was sending people after him. He was scared and made youtube videos about it. - Says she lied about someone that was training her knocking her out and that person said it didn’t happen. Says she told him she has a split personality named Aliana. Aliana told him she existed to protect him. - Says she told him they were soulmates and they were chosen for something supernatural. He fell for it. - He left Skye. She originally agreed to $12,000 a year to help her survive. Six months before she said she wanted half of his stuff if they divorce and he said that’s why he wanted a prenup. When he asked her for one she cried so he didn’t go through with it. Says now we know why she cried. - She pursued him in court. She said she was under duress when the original agreement was made but he says that made no sense because she made her own terms. She then pursued him for $250,000 and he settled for $90,000 because he was afraid she was going to try to claim his channels. That sucks because they both spent tens of thousands on lawyers when they could have handle it out of court. She decided to burn that bridge. - He left Skye for Shiloh. He doesn't think he lied about that before, but he doesn’t remember and might have felt differently back then. The biggest reason he left Skye was Shiloh. She made him feel like his life had more meaning and was amazing. He felt intoxicated by her. They had an amazing love life, passionate interactions, she was so talented and funny. Says the next video will be about Shiloh too.

- One of the pathological lies he had to endure during his relationship with Shiloh was she faked an accident the moment they met. She said she was going with another Canadian artist to an event and got into a car accident on their way back. He said he talked about this in his song “Her Lies”, a music video he dedicated to how many times she lied. - Says she cheated on him and got pregnant with someone else’s baby. He found out through Facebook. Says her story was she went back to Canada because she had free medical care there and had a dead 6 week old miscarriage allegedly going on inside her body. He says he said allegedly because he didn’t know what to believe in that relationship. When you find out someone was collecting money from you while cheating on you, what in that relationship was real?  - People don’t remember how Shiloh was because they have short memories. Back in the day his audience begged him to leave her. He left her 7 out of the 8 times they broke up. There was so much instability.  - He says she tried to shame him and manipulate him into dating her again by saying she was going to end her life once after a break up. She walked off with a suitcase and he let her go because he couldn’t stop her. He video taped himself crying when she was gone. He says deep down he thinks he did that because he wanted people to know where he was when she was doing that. He was so overwhelmed emotionally and couldn't do anything but freeze. He says there’s a clip of him crying out there while she walks off. At that point you just want that person to leave you alone. She came back with a little branch on her shoulder. She would do a thing where she would be in a mood and would go somewhere else. Says she told him she tried to hang herself but the branch snapped. He said he said he was glad she was alive, but there was no rope mark. - When she faked the car accident she used makeup on her forehead. He asked her about it and she said “it hurts so bad” and showed him her forehead, but she didn’t want to see a medical professional. It was magically healed in couple days when he asked about it. He was saying “wow it healed so fast” and didn’t even think he was being lied to. He wasn’t used to being lied to. - Says Skye didn’t lie to him much other than her saying she loved him. He doubts she ever loved him. When you cry when someone asks for a prenup, it says you’re only interested in someone for their assets. A prenup says it’s about love, not about all the stuff we have. Sounds like she was crying about the stuff. Some people perceive it as she was crying because she thought he was doubting the relationship. Says he could see where they are coming from, but that’s not what he was doing. He was disturbed by the crying. Obviously he was right because she tried to take him for a quarter million. Says he wasn’t well off, he was making $12,000, but Youtube is inconsistent so he didn’t want to shell out a lot of cash. Says he might not make enough to keep paying her $6,000 a month. Payed her six years of alimony, so a full grown adult can have financial assistance from him. When it was over she decided to publicly lash out at him. - Shiloh decided to reach out to Kai a couple times. Kai did not appreciate that. - Shiloh said their relationship was like an Adele song, if they split up she would show up at his doorstep, even if he was moved on with another person because that’s how much she loved him. When they would break up or discuss their relationship she would tell him no one will love you as much as I do. - There’s a video circulating around where you can hear him trolling the internet in the background. He was totally shook when this video popped up because he didn’t remember it. They did a prank where he walked in on her in the shower with a go pro. There was another prank where they pretended to go through a drive thru but no one was on the other side of the call. There was one on her channel where he said mean things to her. He says at the time people liked the video because they understood the joke, but now people want to use it as a sign that something crazy was going on. - The only reason she broke up with him was because he looked at hentai and she was a jealous person and it was a threat to her. As a result he got “remember love” tattoo on his wrists. Says we might remember someone asking someone to get a tattoo. Says that was rooted in his subconscious because he did it himself [hold up tattoos], got a tattoo so someone in Canada would take him back. Remember love means to be a good person. - When Shiloh miscarried in Canada, she said she had sepsis, but he questions if she had it because you normally die if you have it.He believed it at the time when she told him. He made a video announcing her sepsis and people yelled at him.  - When she went back she told him she needed rent money until she could get a passport. He talked to her uncle over the phone and he said she was full of it and she didn’t lose her passport. He says he made a sketch about that. - Finds out she’s publicly talking to a guy on facebook and he talked about making love to her and she would says she loved him. He says it’s ironic because he just made a music video about having sex with someone’s girlfriend. Says he was thinking it would be ironic if she was cheating on him while he made the video. Says she liked the video, guesses she was amused by it. She would pick up the money he sent her with the guy she was cheating with. - Says he heard the baby she had with this guy “didn’t go on living”. He says doesn’t know what happened, but someone told him it was a stillborn or SIDS. Says no one should be making video titles or making money off that. Says if she went through that he’s sorry. - Says Shiloh walked down the road and layed on the cement. The fire department dropped her off at his house. He says the fire department was weirded out by her pretending to be whatever on the side of the road. -She fake a seizure and memory loss and her uncle laughed at him for thinking it was real. She faked going back in time, reverting her age. He says it was her idea to post the seizure video because he told her either he can work on another video that night or he couple post it as education on mental disorders. He didn’t take it too seriously as a medical emergency because she already had previous episodes. Says she magically popped up and snapped out of it one time during one of these episodes when he said he was going to call an ambulance. - He was on the phone with his mom and aunt when she threatened to end her life and made it look like he did it. He called the police and filmed it. Says she once wrapped her arms around him and told him to hit her. -He giggled nervously and didn’t know what to do. -Said he’ll continue this in the next video.

(Pretty convenient he keeps stopping these videos after he hits the 10 minute mark even though the videos are not distinct different subjects and he’s filming them back to back.)

Can Lila Rossi be labeled a Psychopath?

What’s Lila’s problem? Is she merely a compulsive liar or can we truly categorize her as a psychopath? I mean, she lacks guilt/remorse, empathy, deep emotional attachments; she’s a narcissist, has superficial charm; she’s dishonest, manipulative and recklessly takes stupid risks like getting purposefully akumatized. I see no reason not to label her as a Psychopath, but I am not a professional in the area. I want opinions! Please beloved author, tell me what you think of Lila.

She would arguably fit enough traits to be considered a psychopath.

According to Kelly McAleer, Psy.D:

"The psychopath is callous, yet charming. He or she will con and manipulate others with charisma and intimidation and can effectively mimic feelings to present as "normal" to society. The psychopath is organized in their criminal thinking and behavior, and can maintain good emotional and physical control, displaying little to no emotional or autonomic arousal, even under situations that most would find threatening or horrifying. The psychopath is keenly aware that what he or she is doing is wrong, but does not care.”

Known traits of a psychopath include pathological lying and manipulation, superficial charm, lack of morality, rule breaking, lack of empathy, narcissism, a superiority complex, gaslighting/bullying, lack of remorse, victimizing, lack of realistic long term goals, and a parasitic lifestyle.

Lila admittedly has quite a few of those traits.

Her biggest problem initially presented was her tendency to lie. This could be excuses any number of ways—wanting to fit in, trying to inflate her importance, lack of self esteem, etc. But as we see more of her, this tendency seems to come all too easily to her and seems…rather concerning in how she utilizes it.

I think I previously mentioned that Lila hones in on specifically what matters most to each person and utilizes it to her own benefit by establishing herself as a “link” to someone or something each of her classmates cares about. That takes some quick thinking and high perception to figure out that quickly. The movie director for Nino. Jagged Stone for the class. Ladybug for Alya, Adrien, and Chloe. By establishing this perceived “link”, she makes herself desirable by default.

We already know she lies and that she presents herself as an outgoing and friendly person to charm people. But as more episodes have come out, we see more worrisome signs. Not just that she’s lying, but the extent of her manipulations, and the sheer depths she willingly goes to—to the point of GRABBING an akuma herself and willingly colluding with Hawk Moth, a known terrorist and supervillain.

There is also the matter of how she acts once she’s caught. No remorse. No accountability. Not even acknowledging how her own actions contributed. No, she made herself out to be the victim almost immediately, given the obvious fake crying she did when Ladybug outed her. And afterwards, she continued to blame Ladybug for calling her out (despite it being to all of ONE PERSON), going so far as to call her a “traitor” for doing so, and swearing all unholy vengeance upon her. She VICTIMIZED herself in the situation, both to Adrien and to herself trying to play it off that she’s the poor innocent victim in all this. She also follows up by hiding away in her apartment for the next few months, which was not only completely unnecessary (as again, nobody else knew about it), but if anything was the one issue that was the most likely to get her caught if she failed to prevent even one call between her mother and the school from getting through. (Which appears to go in lines with the aforementioned lack of long-term goals).

Here’s a thing of note, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on this, but I recall only ONE instance in the entirety of the series so far that Lila outright admitted to lying. It wasn’t to Adrien. It certainly wasn’t to Ladybug—remember, Chameleon had her accepting LADYBUG’S apology, not the other way around. And even in the privacy of her own room, she still solely blames Ladybug while refusing to so much as acknowledge what she did, even in terms of how she could have avoided it for next time.

No, the one person Lila ever admitted to that she was lying was Marinette. And when she admitted it, she was BRAGGING about it.

I would suspect it to be because she knows there’s nothing Marinette can do about it. She isn’t someone famous like Adrien, nor does she hold Lila’s interest. She also isn’t a hero like Ladybug—as far as Lila knows.

No, Marinette is a normal average teenager who just happened to be smart enough to figure Lila out. Lila doesn’t even care HOW Marinette knows. Nor does she care that Marinette does know at all. She doesn’t act hurt or betrayed that Marinette knows the way she did with Ladybug. And there is no victimizing in this case.

Lila outright acts PROUD.

This shows she knows full well what she’s doing, knows that it’s wrong, and not only does she not care, she seems to get a thrill from it if anything.

After all, Lila didn’t leave that bathroom angry or worried she was caught. She left smug. Hell, the akuma didn’t even target her because of Marinette. It was only after Adrien asked her to stop lying that she got even the slightest bit upset, and even that wasn’t enough to actually let the akuma track her. She wasn’t the akuma’s target.

The akuma was HERS.

If Lila was simply a pathological liar who couldn’t help it (and if the show as actually good in its portrayal of any of these people), then the worst that might happen would be her causing drama that would be moved on from and forgotten about after they graduate. But that’s not how Lila comes off. And that doesn’t seem to be the extent of her manipulations.

“In personal relationships, sociopaths and psychopaths often initially entice with their superficial charisma and calculated charm, before revealing their cruel and uncaring nature over time (i.e., after a committed relationship is established or an important agreement is made). They deceive, manipulate, and abuse in relationships without remorse, leaving their victims wounded and traumatized by their utter lack of decency and empathy.”

Given the extent she went to in order to get into Adrien’s house just to post a picture of the two of them and send it to all of their friends, Lila knew exactly what to do and how to do it to get the biggest effect. And that’s what she got and what Oni-chan was. There’s also her manipulation of Chloe in Miraculer. She’s not just telling lies to make herself look better. She is telling lies specifically meant to hurt people.

This is what makes Lila scary.

Emile and Deceit

I mean when I got this ask I was like “you right, they don’t fit” and by the end of writing this I was thinking “...okay maybe they are cute and I’m intrigued”.

“I don’t get it.” Virgil admitted. Emile spared him a glance over the top of his souvenir cup, the two taking a break in the shade and watching their boyfriends from afar through the crowded park. “You’re all sunshine and rainbows, and he’s...that.”

Emile looked where Virgil gestured. There Emile’s partner stood, looking out of place as he gave a child a slight glare and pulled his cloak tighter around himself.

“Dark and brooding?” Emile guessed, not certain what Virgil meant. “I mean, you’re hardly one to talk, Jack Skellington.”

Virgil shifted on his feet, tucking his hands into his hoodie pocket. “You know what I mean. I’ve known Deceit a while, and he’s not whatever he says he is. He’s a pathological liar. He manipulates people to get ahead.”

“I know.” Emile shrugged, as if it wasn’t a big deal. “I’m a therapist; it’s my job to help people with all sorts of psychological issues. The signs were easy to recognize.”

“What, so he’s a passion project?” Virgil cringed. “You’re putting yourself through this to try and fix him?”

“Oh zippa-dee-doo-dah, no!” Emile looked horrified at the thought, his mouse ears nearly going flying off his head as he whirled around to face Virgil. “I would never date a patient, or enter a relationship with the intention of ‘fixing’ someone. That’s entirely unhealthy for all parties involved, and if someone needs help it should be their decision to seek it.”

“Okay.” Virgil frowned. “I mean, good for you, but...that just leaves me more confused. You know he’s a horrible person, you don’t want him to change, and you still stay with him? Why?”

Emile took a moment to choose his words carefully, taking advantage of the time to suck up a bit more of his beverage.

“I like him.” Emile said simply. “Deceit’s a man of many layers. None of us are truly innocent, and it’s refreshing that he never tries to act otherwise. Deceit knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to get it. Is that so wrong?”

“You sound just like him, twisting your words.” Virgil observed. “Are you doing your therapy mind tricks again?”

“Therapy isn’t evil, Virgil.” Emile said sternly, in a friendly banter sort of way. “It’s just that sometimes you need things reworded so you can get out of your own head.”

“Mhm.” Virgil just rolled his eyes. “So you and Two-Faced over there both like philosophy or twisting the truth or whatever you want to call it. Is that it? So you just let him win you over because you think he’s some sort of interesting debate bud?”

Emile fiddled with the straw of his drink. “There is...one other reason.”

“What is it?” Virgil perked up, always interested in drama despite never admitting it.

“You know how I explained that I knew Deceit was a liar?” Emile explained. “Well, he has certain traits that make it easy to read him. I’ve always been able to tell if he’s lying, even if he’s attempting to just tell a half-truth to spare one’s feelings.”

Virgil gave a slow nod, confused. “What’s so romantic about being able to tell when your liar boyfriend is lying?”

Emile’s face lit up with a shy smile. “He’s never lied to me.”
