Part 1 - Back in the Big Apple

No one really knows about TRR Main characters past …. Most of this series is based on flashbacks from her childhood. I’ve changed the main characters name to, Freya Johnson as Riley Brooks is used in my other series.

Daniel was tired from his shift at the bar. He had offered to work overtime doing a 12 hour shift- not like he had anything better to do. Barely staying awake, constantly yawning, constantly checking the clock. Time was going slow today. His thoughts were all about seeing Freya Johnson again.

Before Freya up’d and left for a once in a lifetime adventure to a Mediterranean country, it was fun at work. They always laughed and mimicked the customers. She was fun. She made him enjoy work. Their manager treat them both like absolute shit but having each other got them through their shifts.

He was happy for Freya, he just missed her deeply- he had known her since they were four years old and was always close to her, taking her under his wing. He grew up to love her but knew he didn’t want to cross the friend zone. Daniel was happy having Freya in his life as his ‘BFF’.

Every year on the 19th February, they would both book the day off work. It was a date that meant so much to Freya and having Daniel with her every day for the last eight years on that date meant so much to her. It was her adopted parents anniversary of their death.

They would do some of the things her parents used to do with her when she was younger; having cronuts for breakfast in her favourite cafe along with the special vanilla milkshake, a walk around Central Park taking in the beautiful scenery and ending the day seeing a musical on Broadway.

After the musical, they would visit the graves of Grace and Paul Johnson. Freya would place a beautiful bouquet and tidy up the flowers and grass growing around them. When they passed away Freya decided to update them on this date about her life by writing a diary and reading it out to them. She placed the diary at the front of their grave and updated it every time she visited. Also around the graves were photos of the Johnson’s with Freya when she was younger, photos of Freya and Daniel, photos of Freya’s life achievements such as gaining her degree- her parents would have been so proud of her she always thought.

After the visit, Daniel would then drive them both to the local beach and to the secret cove that Freya called her “secret place” and let off Chinese lanterns into the sky in memory of Grace and Paul. Freya knew that is wasn’t a secret and there was other people that visited the beach but it was the memory of what her parents said to her that always stuck in her mind.

12 years ago, Freya aged 12

“Now Freya, this is mine and your moms secret place. We used to come here when we fell in love whilst on vacation. It is special to us, and this is always why we wanted to share it with you. Maybe in your future you can share this with someone special in your life?”

“Dad? What if I don’t find anyone special? I only have Daniel as my friend. Everyone else is horrible to me.” She said in an upset tone of voice. Not really wanting to hear her parents response, she skipped some stones into the sea.

“Freya sweetheart, you are special, you are beautiful, clever and kind hearted. You will have a wonderful future ahead of you. I promise. We will be with you all of the way.” said Grace softly as she pulled Freya in for a tight loving squeeze.

24hours ago- New York

The bar was extremely quiet. Daniel was bored, twiddling his thumbs. There were two locals in; James Mckrey and Brody Clark.

Brody was the local “playboy”. Had a new girlfriend every day. He sucked at relationships. Would always come in the bar and flirt with Freya. She knew creeps like him and knew how to handle him.

James was the lonely lightweight. He always moaned about how crap his life was, hence why he got drunk nearly every night. Daniel and Freya always felt sorry for him. Half the time they had to get him in a cab when it was closing time to make sure he got home okay- they were waiters who didn’t get paid enough for this shit.

Daniel couldn’t cope being on his own with these two and his arsehole manager. Just then Daniel heard the doors swing open. Daniel walked out of the kitchen yawning whilst putting on a fake smile.

“Good afternoon, my name is Daniel and I’ll be serving you today. Do you both need a tab.... o my god Freya?”

“DANIEL!” Freya ran up to her best friend and gave him a big tight hug. Hanging onto him for dear life, she had missed him dearly and began to regret going awol.

“You just up’d and left. You could have called or text to say you was back.”

“My cell phone coverage has been limited in Cordonia...”

“Maybe you should switch plans?” The man with the smirk said sarcastically.

“Well I’m glad you’re okay. Looks like you’re doing good. I’ve missed you.” Daniel looked over at the man who was with Freya. He looked familiar but Daniel couldn’t pin point why?

“This is Drake, my hot date.” Drake looked confused as Freya said this, rolling his eyes back he couldn’t wait to have a drink and then leave. Just then Daniel snapped him out of his trance.

“You always did have good taste.”

“I’m not her ‘hot date’! I don’t even like her that much. I’ve been lumbered with her.” Daniel noticed his friends smile fade, he knew it would only take a matter of seconds for her to fix that fake Oscar winning smile. Which it did.

“Whatever pal. Please follow me to the most romantic spot in the house! What can I get you guys?”

“One whiskey neat please.” Said Drake.

“Make that two specials Dan” smiled Freya, she knew what was in the whiskey special- if that wasn’t revenge for Drake being an arse she didn’t know what was.

Daniel walked over and poured their drinks and took them over to the booth. Every so often Daniel would check on them and chatted with them both.

“So are you back in New York for good? Or just visiting?”

“Just visiting with the royal court. We actually have a party we need to get to. I’ve missed you so much Dan, I will come and visit more often. And keep in touch. I promise.”

“I’ve missed you too Freya, it just isn’t the same here without you. Take care you two. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you soon.”

He smiled and waved at her and Drake as they left. Would she keep in touch? He hoped so. He had wondered if she had visited Grace and Paul’s graves on her visit? Did she tell Drake about them? Or was it just Daniel that knew? Thoughts kept roaming through his head. He didn’t have the heart to tell her whilst she seemed so happy, that he had visited the graves on behalf of her whilst she was away. He had tidied up the graves and explained to them that Freya was away but would be back soon with an update in her diary and on her new life. He loved the Johnsons, they made him feel welcome into their family, so he felt he should do that if not for Freya but for them.

Daniels shift wasn’t ending for a few hours- his friend had left only a matter of seconds ago and he was already contemplating texting Freya but she was at a party with nobles. Would it be rude of her to read it? Daniel thought. She could read it after the party?

“Hey, it was great to see you and meet grumpy Drake! Sorry if I’m interrupting you. I’ve missed my friend so much. You seem so happy. But I need to ask you something? Dan x”

Leaving the bar, Riley and Drake walked slowly through the streets of New York. Throughout her time in Cordonia, she had fallen for Drake Walker. Fallen deep and hard. He built walls around him, and she intended on knocking down each and every one. However she kept failing. She knew that Liam loved her- but she couldn’t return the love, her heart was set on the jerk that was horrendous to her.

“Why are you such an arsehole with me? Can’t you handle a joke?” She held the railing, overlooking the Hudson River.

“I’m not an arsehole Jono. I just hate that I get lumbered with you all the bastard time.” Freya began uncontrollably crying, her heart felt as though it was being stabbed constantly as if she was voodoo doll.

“Jeez! Thanks a lot Drake. See ya later.”

Riley stormed off wiping her tears away, Drake regretted what he had said. The last time he saw her cry was when she was dragged out of the Coronation. He also regretted annoying her, as he was now struggling with directions to get back to the hotel.

Freya- I don’t hate you at all.

Dance with me (Drake x Freya)

So. This is my very late @choicessecretsanta gift for @diamondlessoption! I had an incredibly long and incredibly frustrating writers block and then my computer had some technical difficulties and argh. Anyways. 

This is short and fluffy and it just popped into my head when I was thinking of prompts that @lolablackwrites and @mrswalkerwrites sent to me ages ago. The prompts were from the Kissing prompt list, ‘laughing kiss’ and ‘we’re actually being kind of silly for once’ type of kiss. My grandmother was watching Mamma Mia and then this idea just kind of a popped into my head. Also, thank you, the person who proofread this. You know who you are.

(I also renamed my MC in TRR, she went from being Freya Beauchamp to Freya Daniels, because it just sits better with me.)

»Do we have to watch Mamma Mia again?« Drake groaned when Freya pulled him towards her and sat him beside her on the sofa. »Yes, Drake, we really do.«

She grinned at him and waved a bottle of whiskey, “this is your favourite, right?” When he just stared at her she sighed and put the bottle down. “Look, if you really don’t want, we don’t have to, but I was looking forward to this for the whole day. And I promise I’ll think of something more interesting for you after the movie, okay?”

Drake stared at her but couldn’t stay serious at her pleading eyes. “Fine, Daniels. Just give me that whiskey.” He snatched the bottle from her hands and when she nestled into his side took a sip. His arm sneaked around her shoulders as he sighed contentedly. A year ago he couldn’t have thought how much she’ll change his life. She came crashing into his life and as much as he tried to keep her away she just kept coming back, burning down his walls and leaving him exposed and vulnerable to her. And somewhere along the way he had to admit to himself that he has fallen for her, hard, and surprisingly, he was okay with it.

He felt her shoulder moving in the rhythm of the music and he focused his attention to the movie. ‘Dancing Queen’ from Abba was blaring form the speakers and Drake couldn’t help but wonder how would Freya look in the white sparkly dress that the singers were wearing in the video. Before his brain processed his next thought, he was on his feet, arm extending toward her. “Do you know how to dance to this?”

Freya blinked at him in surprise. “Are you … Do you want me to teach you? You know I danced back in high school, Drake.” She saw a slight blush creeping up his cheeks.

“I actually won a dancing contest in the fifth grade to this song ... And that’s all I’m going to say regarding this. You coming?” Freya smiled and hoped of the couch. Settling in his arms she started moving her hips in sync with the rhythm of the music. “I’m a little rusty, so go easy on me, Daniels.” Laughing, she kissed him slightly on the lips and moved away before Drake could deepen the kiss. “I really missed doing fun things with you lately, but first we’re dancing. It was your idea! And don’t think you’re not telling me more about that dance contest, Drake Walker.” Freya laughed at his expression, but melted into his hands when he put them on her hips.

Drake was actually a decent dancer when he didn’t have to worry about anyone else but her and for the next minute she just enjoyed the lively music and their closeness. She lead them through their living room, trying to steer away from any potential breaking hazard, and Drake happily let her take the charge. They managed to get through almost the whole song when she heard a loud crash and felt Drake stiffen and stop. “We broke Kiara’s vase, Daniels.”

“I’m actually happy, because I was deciding between tossing it into trash or putting it away into the basement. It doesn’t really match anything in this cabin and she knows that.” Freya made a face and went to get the broom. In between sweeping the shards she turned towards him.  “I thought you didn’t know how to dance? I mean, you certainly don’t know the waltz, but you know this?”

Drake scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. “This is pretty much the only song I can dance to, just because I have the steps memorized. Jessica Winters really wanted to win so we trained until I could pretty much dance in my sleep. Thankfully, that was the only time in my life I had to dance in front of the audience. I was terrified.”

“Well. If you ever see her again, tell Jessica Winters that I’m impressed by her persistence. And just how did she manage to persuade you to dance with her?”

Drake’s cheeks flushed pink and he averted his eyes. “There may have been a crush involved … and she had a lot of help from Liam in convincing me. He knew how to bribe me even back then. I think he just wanted to see how I make a fool of myself on the stage but …”

“You managed to win,” Freya finished for him and a soft smile appeared on her lips when she pictured little Drake, dancing his heart out with an ambitious dance partner who scowled at him every time he mixed up his steps.

“Yes well, after that I made a point of not dancing ever again, but then I met you, and apparently you don’t understand when a man tells you no.” Freya laughed and smacked Drake in the chest.

“Oh hush. You loved every second of that.” “Yes, but just because it was with you.”

She rolled her eyes. “You’re giving me diabetes, here. And I’m missing the movie because of you!”

She jumped back to the sofa and nestled back into Drake when he joined her again. “Do you want to do that again sometime?”

“As long as you don’t make me dance for a school competition, Daniels, I wouldn’t mind dancing again with you.”

Moments after the sound of guns firing, the sudden realisation that Drake had been shot. Freya stood shocked, in silence, unable to move. A single tear traced her cheek, leaving a mascara stain behind. For @storiesbehindyoureyes ♥️

Enjolras x Grantaire a.k.a. Enjoltaire a.k.a. ExR- Les Mis

How I fell into this I don't remember now. I vaguely remember reading a crackfic of this and then everything just went sideways.

This was also the fandom that helped me realize that I wasn't exactly straight and that it's okay to not be loud about my sexuality, that I can just be.

I think that explains my attachment to this ship, not to mention just the movie's Grantaire (played by George Blagden) also shipped the characters and played his character like how he thought it should be, Grantaire loving and pining after Enjolras without the revolutionary knowing it.

Except in the fan fics, Enjolras returns his feelings and they work it out, even though it's not easy because they're both stubborn as mules. Ah, ultimate fantasy I guess. And the number of great fics here, *whistle*

Also, the Les Amis? Is amazing? Especially in the modern AUs? Like they're great friends? I love this fandom so much! Permets-tu!

Shen Wei x Zhao Yunlan - Guardian / Zhen Hun

C'mon, Zhu Yilong & Bai Yu's performance and emotions? Plus just the fact the fanfic writers of this ship are absolutely amazing? Please, escape from this pairing is impossible!

Best opposites attract trope for me. An academic by day, superhero by night in love with a roguish police chief who has no powers but whose charisma, wit, and heart can get him to toe to toe with the legends.

Also, Professor Shen Wei constantly acting like an innocent civilian and lying badly? Gold!

Loki x Tony Stark a.k.a. FrostIron - Avengers

How did I honestly get to this ship? I really can't remember what started it all. I think it must have been a Loki redemption fic where Tony Stark and Pepper broke up and something something happened. Let me tell you, the writers of this ship have written sagas and ballads of epic and sometimes confusing proportions, and that is why I fell deeper into the pit. I mean, they gotta give justice to two brilliant but chaotic characters, right? Angst. This ship has sooooooooo much angst.

Eiji x Ash - Banana Fish

My god, if you want to keep your heart intact and not be reminded of all that's ugly in the world, DON'T WATCH OR READ BANANA FISH. YOUR HEART WILL NEVER HEAL!

If you're gonna watch/read it anyway, make sure to watch something fluffy and sweet after. There's a reason that people from this fandom go, "If you've seen Banana Fish's ending, then you can handle whatever angsty show you're watching now." ~ or something to that effect. Another thing we like to say in this fandom is, "Other fandoms: Let's write a Mafia AU! Banana Fish fandom: We are the Mafia AU." Yes, all of us in this fandom is dramatic af.

Yuuri x Viktor - Yuuri!!! on Ice

Uh, does this really need an explanation? Aside from the fact that you will surprisingly find a lot of Mafia AUs here because we all know that hiding behind that beautiful face of Viktor Nikiforov is a devil capable of... tearing down your self-confidence, like WTF Viktor, don't make Yuuri cry! Also, their dance together at the end, such beautiful love.

Magnus Bane x Alec Lightwood aka Malec - Shadowhunters

I never read the books and have no plans to in the near future. I just saw a video on Youtube about why Malec is life and now here I am, still reading some Malec fics from time to time.

Some stuff on the show were WTF but overall they were a really good couple who supported each other. Plus, they're a Power Couple.

Erwin x Levi aka Eruri - Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin

Not to be confused with Ereri, which is Eren x Levi, which I don't generally ship except for that one time when a writer wrote an epic fanfic series with Eren in his mid 20s and Levi in his late 20s/early 30s, reincarnation AU. Boy was that one a surprise. I did not expect that.

Anyway, I'm an Eruri fan through and through. Especially with that promise that Levi made to Erwin. And the reason he gave the serum to Armin. HE DIDN'T DO IT FOR THE KIDS YKNOW. HE DID IT FOR ERWIN. Plus, Levi, Erwin, and Hange are my special trio. Erwin's batch was really amazing.

Also, I really like the fact that the shorter and slighter person is the more badass fighter while the taller, bigger one is the more calculating and strategic one. Rocks the boat of stereotypes and all that. Bonus: how these two met. My god, what a meet-cute! 😂

Dani x Jamie aka The Au Pair and the Gardener - The Haunting of Bly Manor

It really is more of a love story than a ghost story. I dunno how to feel about this. I loved these two characters so much and I wished they had a better ending but I wasn't SO surprised because it was a horror series (Like, I was still hoping at the end that they'd be together forever but yknow...). In any case, Jamie was just awesome. And her nickname for Dani? Poppins?! God, what a lover and fighter. She was not afraid to cock a gun in a ghost's face.

Merlin x Arthur aka Merthur - BBC Merlin

Yeah, my brain is so chaotic multiple OTPs and BROTPs of the same pairing exist at the same time without clashing with one another or having major identity crises.

I actually really like BROTP Merlin and Arthur and also like reading OTP Merthur.

And when Merlin is paired with Morgana or Freya or sometimes even Gwaine, that's fine with me too. As long as his bromance with Arthur stays intact, because that's what drew me to the show in the first place. Personal preference. I see them as platonic soulmates.

*Shout-out to the Merthur writers though, you kept me sane during my "Post-Merlin Depression," which is actually a term thrown around in the fandom because of that horrid final season (not saying it's a good term but it's what it was called). A lot of amazing fics here, too, both Magic Reveal and Modern AU ones. Full of action and adventure too! I mean, there are boy-band-looking Knights and magic-wielding badasses!

Tim Drake x Conner Kent/Kon-El aka Red Robin x Super Boy - DC Comics

More like flexible otp. I dig Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake BUT I really really also dig Tim Drake and Conner Kent. When they're TimKon, it's like an entirely different entity from TimSteph. Ugh, hard to explain.

I mean, Kon telling Tim, "You'll always be my Robin" and Tim telling Kon, "And you'll always be my clone boy" is the shit. Also when Kon could pick out/recognize Tim's heartbeat. And when Tim nearly went mad scientist trying to bring his bestie back. Like, dudes, wtf. And at the same time, hell yeah.

Liu Kang x Kung Lao aka LiuLao - Mortal Kombat

- I see these two as more like ride or die best friends connected by fate/platonic soulmates. But also like their dynamic is so awesome, cute, sweet, badass, can't-live-without-you vibes.

Basically the same way I feel about Merthur. I like reading both romantic and platonic relationships between these two characters. Like, the LiuLao fan creators peeling off the layers of this relationship and exposing every raw nerve is beautiful.

They love diving into the characters' psyche, emotions, motivations, fears, and doubts and you get really amazed because... Aren't they just characters from a video game, you ask? Well yeah, but MK video game has several interesting storylines and the Mortal Kombat 2021 movie was just the perfect jumpstarter to this beautiful blaze.

I mean, "We swore that if we were to die, it would be together"? Hell no, you're not dropping that on us and not expecting us to create our very own spin-offs and 12-page essays on that shit. That's what we fans do, baby. And also, really, we need a shaolin monks/white lotus spin-off/prequel. We're starving here.

As this ship is the newest one on my list, it's the one I'm looking forward to the most. Not enough fan content, I tell you. Not enough. One of these days, I just might add my own.

But right now, it's past 1 and so I shall attempt to sleep.

DWAW 2023 - Day 5: Romance

So, originally I was going to put something together featuring just my OTP, but when I sat down to write, I realised that I'd actually written Drake with some additional pairings! Shocking, I know 😅

Drake Walker x Harper Gale

My OTP! 🥰 I love these two so much - they are definately a match made in heaven (even if it took Drake a while it to admit to himself - not to mention to Harper! 🤣)

This pairing forms the foundation of the majority of my fics, including my seminal TRR rewrites - (Un)Common Attraction and (Less Than) Noble Intentions - as well as various other sequels and spin offs like Sleepless in New York, Thanksgiving, A Winged Wish and Camping Was Intense. I've also explored some behind-the-scenes aspect of their relationship in some OTP and Writer's Asks.

Drake Walker x Freya Bryne

Freya popped onto the scene when I was writing the Burnt Bonus Chapter for (Un)Common Attraction. She was supposed to be a rando, but when she actually walked in, she had a whole ass backstory (she's originally from Ireland, but moved to Cordonia to escape the constant rain and to pursue a research doctorate in naval history), and a rather steamy history with Drake, so I just went with it.

I am hoping to explore Freya a bit more (@petiteboheme has requested a one-shot that I haven't forgotten about!) and she may end up popping up during the engagement tour as well (though we'll see how things go, because even though I am apparantly the writer, my characters do their own thing)

Valeria is another blast from Drake's past, who is first referenced (very much in passing) in the Crazy Bonus Chapter of (Un)Common Attraction, and was subsequently fleshed out in more detail in the Polo! fic because I couldn't stay away from the slightly traumatic backstory sorry, bro😅

4. Keelin x Freya // Freelin (The Originals)

The only LGBT ship from this wretched universe to truly make it. They were endgame without having to die together (Noralise) or finding each other in the afterlife (JoshxAiden). I genuinely still can’t believe that they were able to get married and like, allude to the fact that they’re gonna have kids and like, they just get to live happily ever after and that just makes me really emotional. 

5. Amaya Jiwe x Zari Tomaz // Amari (Legends of Tomorrow)

I WAS TRYING TO FIND THE ICONIC ‘TOTEMS LIGHT UP CUZ THEY’RE SOULMATES’ GIF, BUT THIS WAS THE CLOSEST I COULD GET TO IT!!! Look, I know that Amari isn’t ‘canon’ but they are to me, just like, the way their dynamic was written I feel like can easily be seen as romantic.

6. Sara Lance x Ava Sharpe // Avalance (Legends of Tomorrow)

No shit true love’s kiss is gonna’ be on here. I LOVED Avalance from the get-go, like, the whole time they were leading up to the hiatus in Season 3, I was literally just chanting ‘oh they’re gonna’ get together aren’t they? like they better, but they are’ in my head until they got some proper content.

Dansen is cute as fuck and y’all need to stop sleeping on them. 

8. Earth 2 Dinah Laurel Lance x Dinah Drake // DinahSiren // Dinah^2 (The Canary Show)

Listen, Dinah and Laurel’s development from enemies to frenemies to friends to literally being married is iconic and literally my favourite trope in the history of tropes. They will get together, I’m putting it out into the universe, so they will happen. 

9. Alice x Robin // MadArcher (Once Upon A Time)

MadArcher is one of my more underrated ships just because I ship them, but I never actually ended up getting into the fandom or anything. I just loved them together, I thought they were really good, their meet-cute was a lot like Snowing’s which was definitely a pleasant surprise. I wish we could’ve gotten another season of them, OUAT Season 7 was unworthy of the slander that it received and I will die screeching about it.

10. Nora Hildegard x Mary Louise // Noralise (The Vampire Diaries)

Noralise is yet another one of my more underrated ships because they were handled so poorly by the writer on TVD. The actresses actually had chemistry, and I was super excited about their narrative because I genuinely believe that there was so much to work with there, and they just had unnecessary drama and got killed off.

No one really knows about TRR Main characters past …. Most of this series is based on flashbacks from her childhood. I’ve changed the main characters name to, Freya Johnson as Riley Brooks is used in my other series.

Freya is in love with Drake, but he hasn’t returned the feelings- instead just acts horrible towards her. Will Freya return back to Cordonia with the court or will she stay in the USA after the UN party.

Daniel remembers back to the last time he did something behind Freya’s back. She was so sweet but a psycho when mad. Last time he interfered in her love life she didn’t talk to him for a week, but last time he did punch her cheating boyfriend. This time, he was trying to help Freya’s life by guiding her friends to understand the secret she had kept from them.

“Good job I brought my daggers with me! Why on earth are we at a grave yard? I could be sipping champagne now!” Olivia snapped at Daniel, his eyes widened at her attitude- she scared the shit out of him already.

“Right, erm. Please don’t hurt me Miss Olivia. There’s two ‘people’ I’d like you all to meet.” The gang looked at each, confusion written all over each of their faces. Daniel continued.

“This is Grace and Paul. They were sadly taken away from us eight years ago. Myself and Freya used to come here all the time- but especially on one date. On that date, Freya would write a diary and explain everything that they are missing... myself and Freya came here earlier on before she stood you all up...” As Daniel continued speaking, Liam and Drake bent down and looked at the grave closely.

“Grace and Paul Johnson.” Drake turned to Liam as he said it.

“Her parents..” They both said in unison- as they looked concerned, they stood back up and continued to listen to Daniel.

“... anyway, she finally came here and updated her diary. I can’t believe what all of you have been through- it’s like you’re all staring in reality tv.” Daniel jokingly said to them all. The were like Aliens - not understanding exactly what reality tv was.

Daniel pointed to the diary and read it out to them all. Afterwards he pointed over to each of the photos.

“I hope y’all don’t mind but she put some pictures of her journey with you all and wrote something about each of you. Maybe if you all read them she... she cares for you all. And trust me, she is stubborn so for her to care about so many people is amazing.”

They each picked up their picture with the note attached, they read it out loud to the other friends. Liam began..

You remember when I told you fairytales are silly and only happen in films? Well, little Freya just the waitress actually stared in ‘one of those films’. I met a Prince at our bar one night- the night that I could have killed Dan for leaving me in the shit. His name is Liam. Crown Prince- now King Of Cordonia. For some reason he and three of his friends stumbled into our bar. If you ask me they really chose the shittest place in New York to come for food and drinks.

As the evening went on, I could see Liam’s eyes locked on me. This was kind of intimidating. Why would a stranger keep looking over? I was really ready to kill Daniel now. After closing time, I went out with them all and we had some kind of connection. He was so lovely, charming and someone who would make a great friend. I thought I’d never see him again. When I entered his social season, I instantly fell in love with his personality. He is now classed as my friend. Little Freya having royalty as friends- you was correct to believe in fairytales mom.

This morning, Liam asked me out to breakfast. I didn’t think anything of it so agreed. Instead he took me for a walk near to the Statue of Liberty- we sat on a bench it was full circle, where I had taken him that first night. Liam is a kind man and I know he will find the most perfect Queen, he told me he would have proposed to me. If he had physically asked those four words, I couldn’t say yes. I opened up to him about everything - explaining that I couldn’t return to his country. Suddenly by my surprise, he understood my reasoning - I think and surprised me again by explaining that he was going to offer for me to become a duchess. He has so much faith in me, if I didn’t get my new job I’d have possibly been contemplating this role. He is a young king with a great future ahead of him- I am grateful to have him as a close friend.

Hana. What can I say about Hana. She is absolutely amazing at everything she does. I’m kind of jealous of all the talents she has. Anyone would be lucky to have her, I am privileged to call her my best friend. She is the most kind hearted woman I have ever met, even behind all that shyness. Apart from Maxwell, she was the first friend I made in Cordonia- I actually walked into the boutique and embarrassed her as she was stood in only her underwear. Since then, we keep laughing about the awkwardness on our first meeting. When I returned to Cordonia, she also returned- together we make the A team. We are so different, I tell people the truth about what I think- I defend myself. Where as Hana will play things down to not hurt anyone’s feelings. She has a heart of gold, but damn this girl needs to stop with the low esteem- she is amazing! And I am honoured to call her my best friend.

Maxwell. This man. If I could choose anyone to be my brother, it would be Maxi. His personality is so hyperactive, where does he get this energy from? He’s not a typical Lord- he’s the fun one! I’d need to sup a hundred black coffees before I caught up to him. This man is the reason for my adventure beginning in Cordonia and Europe- if not I’d still be stuck at that shitty bar. Thank you Maxwell. He’s known as the spare heir, thank goodness- I don’t know how he’d cope being head of Beaumont- it would be a disaster due to him enjoying having too much fun. Or maybe that is what a Duke should be like? Maybe his brother is just too uptight? Maxwell is the most sweetest and kindest person I have ever met. He always thinks positive! The way any person should think- he’s a role model to us all with that. Dad you’d have loved Maxwell, he could have shown you how to ‘not dad dance’. Dancing is Max’s forte- but I also taught him how to slut drop- sorry not sorry. Thank you for everything Maxi.

The Scarlett Duchess, Olivia. My god I hated her at first, I’m sure the feeling was mutual if not more. She tried to sabotage my image at court and embarrass me. She is in love with Liam, I honestly think behind all of those layers and daggers- yes I mean real daggers- she would make the best queen for Liam and Cordonia. As our time together has gone by, I have began to love her, she’s sweet but a psycho. And I will continue to try and knock those walls down. Even if Olivia doesn’t want to admit it with her sharp tongue, she is the best friend who will help come through any shit storm with all her determination. I’m a hugger, I’m a lover, she will always refuse to hug back- but one of these days I will get her to do it. Even if she won’t admit it we are FRIENNNDDDSS.

Drake Walker. Known as Liam’s shadow. But there is so much more to this man. When I first met him, he was so laid back, cocky and handsome. Drake has had a hard time, he lost his father like I lost you both. I feel this is one of the connections that draw us close together and the fact that he isn’t noble but also half American. Fate I’d say. Shame he doesn’t feel the same towards me. This man is the most loyal man I’ve met, but such a cynical bastard and a total jerk to me. Like Olivia he has built walls around him and I was determined to knock each and every one down but failed. When I’m around him I feel vulnerable and my heart flutters- he doesn’t know this. I first started to fall for him at Olivia’s duchy, when I followed him out in the snow after defending him- don’t worry I was wrapped up. Drake has always had my back through the shit even if it did take him ages to open up to me. He rescued me when one of the nobles was so close to raping me, that was the first time that he seemed sincere towards me and not a cocky bastard. At that moment I’d fallen hard for him. My feelings towards Drake are uncontrollable- never wanting to leave his side even if he insists that he gets ‘lumbered’ with me. I need to follow my head rather than my heart, I never thought I’d find love until I met Drake. Without him in my life I need to keep occupied. He will always be my jerk best friend.

After Drake finished reading his note, he was shell shocked, her honesty was exactly what he felt towards her. Guilt panged in his heart after making eye contact with Liam. Loyal as he was, he would have never told Liam about his true feelings- the only person that knew was Maxwell. They had been best friends since a young age, he didn’t want a girl to cause friction between them no matter how much they both loved her.

“Li. I- I.. I’m so sorry.”

The friends all looked concerned. Daniel suddenly regretted bringing them here now. He didn’t realise they would read their notes out to each other- just assumed they would read it between themselves and keep quiet. This was one of the worse decisions he had made in his life, he thought.

“Drake.. I- I don’t know what to say. Did you know she felt that way? Do you feel the same?”

“You’re my best friend Li. I knew she had some feelings, she called me her ‘hot date’... I can’t help how I feel about her. I didn’t want to let her know how I feel- I was assuming she would choose you. I text her how I felt, and she never mentioned about it- she must have blocked me or deleted it without reading it. You out of everyone should know how she makes people feel. Shit! I’m so sorry.”

“Would you have told me? If we didn’t find out this way? What if I did propose and she had accepted?”

“Li, I don’t honestly know? I’d have probably left for Texas or to stay with Sav.”

“Drake, this morning I was going to ask her, but I thought I’d mention it first- she remained silent so I knew she didn’t want it, the colour from her face drained. But I understand that people have to follow their hearts. Now it all makes sense, I asked you to keep an eye on her during my social season. I want her in my life. Even if that is as a friend. I love her. I always will do. You’ve never been good with feelings regarding relationships have you?”

“I guess not.”

“Drake Walker, you need to look after her. It’s up to you to convince her to return with us. Don’t ever give up on her, promise?” Liam went to pat drake on the shoulder. Then whispered in his ear, “You have my blessing.”

A moment later, everyone’s phones started buzzing.

Hey guys, sorry I stood you all up. Being back in New York has made me feel sentimental. I hope you all understand that I needed a few hours to myself. I’m safe. Don’t worry about me. I will meet you all at the hotel later on. Freya x

All her friends check their phones and were all relieved that she was fine. They all begin to head back saying bye and thank you to Daniel. Just then Daniel handed an envelope to one of them discreetly. Inside the envelope there was a note

Meet me on your own. I need to talk to you. Daniel will drop you off at the location. Freya x

“Er, I’m just going to walk Daniel back to his car. I’ll see you at the hotel.” They all nodded in unison, as they waved goodbye.

Freya was waiting at the beach taking in the beautiful sight and the cool air swaying her long brown curls. Unaware that her friends stormed into her old bar and gave Daniel abuse about her whereabouts- she felt relaxed.

She kept thinking about her parents, it was so hard being back in New York. All the memories, then thoughts about that person she needed to confide in.

Will that person even come? How am I going to say what I need to say? Should I tell the truth about my past? I know all about everyones past. Why am I so confused about what to do and say?

Daniel arrived at the beach with the one person that Freya wanted to see. Parking up the car, she wanted to talk to them on her own without everyone there and she trusted Daniel to get that person there. The awkward silence was then broken.

“This is where we came that night of the bachelor party.”

Smiling thinking back at the memory of how beautiful she looked when she joined the four men after the bar closed. The green dress made all their eyes go wide.

“Does she know? That we all know about the diary and her parents?” Daniel looked over towards Freya, feeling guilty. Suddenly it dawned on him, wondering how she would react.

“She wanted me to find you after my shift to tell you to come here. I don’t think she expected for you all the storm into the bar looking for her. I.. I shouldn’t have taken you all there and Frey is probably going to kill me. But she poured her feelings out through words and eventually she would have told you all. I’m sure.”

“I feel like such a jerk. As we all do. We all spoke about our lives to her. Opening up about our pasts. And not one of us asked about hers. She just listened to all of us and gave us support and advise. And...”

Daniel smiles. “That’s just it. That’s what Freya is like. She’s been through so much. But she understands that there is someone out there who’s worse off than she is. That’s what makes her the best friend anyone could ask for and a selfless human being.”

They both look at her. She looked beautiful sat on the cliff, watching the waves crash against the soft sand.

“Go and get your girl. She’s waiting. Convince her to not move away.” Daniel said encouragingly- hoping he would follow his advise.

Please just go and get her. You belong together! Don’t waste anymore time.

“I don’t know what to say to her?”

“Be spontaneous. She loves you. She doesn’t need to physically tell anyone- you can see it in her eyes when your name is mentioned. In fact she told you all, in your note where her heart lies. But she is so stubborn to make the first move. I’m going to leave you together. If you need me to pick you up just drop a text.”

“Thanks Daniel. You’re a great friend to Freya and she is lucky to have you.” Daniels pats him on the shoulder and walks back to the car leaving him alone.

Get a grip man! She loves you. You love her. How did I get this lucky to find someone who loves me for who I am? This never happens to someone like me.

He slowly walks towards the cliff to where Freya is sat. Hearing a car drive off, she turned around and saw him in the distance.

“Drake?”

Drake suddenly began running towards her, Freya ran towards him. When they got within arms reach, Drake picked her up and spun her around. His eyes never leaving hers. When he lowered her down, his hand brushed through her hair. Cupping her cheeks he was desperate to kiss her, but prevented it. He didn’t want to hurt her again.

“Hey!” Freya said as she smiled relieved that Daniel had brought him to her.

“ είσαι όμορφη αγάπη μου! I’ve missed you!”

What language is that? He sounds so sexy. He could have said anything. Shit this is frustrating what did he say?

“You’ve missed me? I’ve missed you too Walker. I’m sorry I didn’t meet you all. I just needed to clear my mind. I need to talk to you.”

“Please let me talk first?”

“Sure.”

“Jono, Freya. I was such a jerk when we first met. I just didn’t want to you know how I felt about you. You were Liam’s suitor. I didn’t want to let my feelings get hurt. Yeah, yeah I’m a total marshmallow before you say it.”

“I wasn’t- well maybe?” She laughed. Her gaze never left his eyes.

“Anyway... I just wanted to say... Σε αγαπώ.” Drake could see confusion written across Freya’s face, before beginning to laugh.

Freya and Hana excel in everything they do. That is probably why they are best friends. But I bet neither can speak Greek- she has no clue what I’m saying, according to her face expression. In fact it wouldn’t surprise me if Hana was fluent in Greek too. This is cruel Walker. Just tell her you love her.

“I love you Freya Johnson. I started falling for you at Lythikos too. I realised I’d fallen in love with you when I thought I’d lost you after you was dragged out of the Coronation ball.”

Lythikos too? How does he know? Daniel!

Come on Freya, I feel like a dickhead if you don’t say anything back. Have I said too much? Shit.

“I love you too Drake. I always have and I always will but....”

“Please don’t stay here. Come back with us. I know I’ve been a jerk. I know I always said I got ‘lumbered’ with you but deep down I was glad. I sent you a text I don’t think you received it. I confessed everything after I hurt your arm. Is it okay?”

“Yeah it’s fine. I got it. I just didn’t read it fully.” Feeling guilty, she retrieved her phone out of her pocket and read it eventually. Her eyes widened at his honestly, before she began to cry. “I’m sorry I didn’t read it, I was tired. I was getting ready for the wedding shower. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I don’t know? I honestly don’t know. I know I have a funny way of showing it but I do care about you- a lot. I’m sorry for all the hurt I caused you. I've been waiting for you, to come around and tell me the truth, ‘bout everything that you're going through, my girl you've got nothing to lose.”

“You’re an arsehole, you know that? Maybe I’d have told you the truth before, if you was nice to me.” Playfully nudging him, she smiled properly for the first time in a while- Drake noticed this too.

“I can be an ass. I can also be loving. Freya, if you’ll have me I’m yours.” Holding her hands, he hoped he wasn’t too late and she would stay with them all.

“You want me? As in us become a couple?” Looking into his eyes, she needed reassurance- she had never seen Drake look this vulnerable before. Cupping her cheeks, his thumb brushed over them, she inhaled his scent. Her heart began to flutter uncontrollably. Shit Vegas.

“I do.” Standing on her tiptoes, she desperately wanted to kiss the man she had been fantasying over ever since meeting him. Placing her arms around his neck, she pulled him down to her level. Their lips almost touching- Drake decided to take the risk and finally kiss the girl he had hidden his feelings about.

“Can I hold my girl?”

Summary - Charity is in exhausted new mum mode and Leo insists she rests...

It was rare, and it was cherished most. Those moments of silence Leo and his wife Charity had when their twin daughters Shayla and Freya where fast asleep, when they weren’t crying for feeds or a nappy change. It was rare but it was the best part for the exhausted, new parents.

“I need to sleep” The mother complained as she sipped on her cup of tea, alcohol just seemed to make her even more tired.

“Then sleep, Freya and Shayla are asleep” The former heir to Cordonia assured his wife and she looked back to him, her husband was wonderful but right now, she wanted to stay alert to ensure the girls didn’t need her.

“They could wake up any point” Charity stressed, she needed sleep but she knew how fussy their tins were.

“I know but I am their dad, I know what I’m doing” Leo responded, as he massaged his wives shoulders. “Just chill, try relax, or if you don’t want to sleep, go get a nice chilled out bath, we have milk for them” Her husband whispered softly, he knew Charity was bound to stress but she didn’t need to, as he had her back and he was as much the girls parent as she was. He was her partner and he would do anything she needed him to do and if that included sitting with the twins, or doing all the duties whilst she rested, he was certain he could find a method to handle it.

“Are you sure?” She asked, worried and her husband pressed a kiss to her forehead.

“Go and chill” He kissed her lips once again, “I will go run you a bath and you just chill, Ive got this” Leo assured her, and she nodded, still unsure but she knew her husband was right, she was exhausted and if she was honest with herself, she did need to chill out and that was what she was going to do.
