Since it’s cannon that Jamil has a roommate, I’m thinking of this.

He doesn’t mind if Estella stays the night in their room. He may tease them before going to sleep but otherwise he leaves them alone. He and Estella get along okay but Jamil also worries about waking his girlfriend up in the middle of the night as well. He’s surprised that she sleeps like the dead when both her and his roommate are still sleeping from whatever he’s doing.

The poor dude has probably heard him muttering to himself about how to confess before they got together. He may offer some advice but Jamil doesn’t take it. Probably sighs in relief when Jamil decides to tell him about the relationship

The ship name is a nod to the Hunger Games book/movie The Balled of Songbirds and Snakes

They start dating during her sophomore year/his junior year

Their first date was a magic carpet ride as Kalim insisted Jamil use it after hearing the legend of a young man confessing his love to a girl on a magic carpet

When in public the most PDA that’ll be shown is handholding, an arm around a shoulder, linked arms or in very rare instances a kiss on the cheek. They’re both not much into PDA

When neither of them can’t sleep they call each other and talk until someone falls asleep. Neither can bring themselves to hang up and fall asleep to the other’s breathing

Estella will wear Jamil’s hoodie when she’s cold. Half the time she steals it until Jamil gives it to her. She wears it a lot

(Based on a irl experience) Before he gave her the hoodie, he had her try it on one day after classes. The sleeves covered her wrists a bit, so she did the arm flappy thing for a moment. It made him think of a bird when he saw that until she gave the hoodie back

Jamil crashes over at Ramshackle when things (Kalim) gets too much. He’s done this so often that he has some spare clothes in Estella’s room. He knows that she wears them cause they smell like her

Speaking of, Estella has spent a few nights over at Scarabia. It was her idea to spend the night there after Jamil spent a few good nights at Ramshackle. She also leaves some spare clothes over there and he will often use them as a pillow case when they have their late night calls.

The first night he spent over at Ramshackle was the first night they spent together as a couple. They were both so nervous about overstepping the others boundaries. They did manage to cuddle once the awkwardness ran out, until Grim got in the middle of them, not wanting to be grossed out by some guy snuggling his henchman. He snuggled with her first!

The first night she spent over at Scarabia was one of the coldest nights for her. The desert, even in the dorm wasn’t a joke. She latched onto Jamil like a kola and fell asleep once she got enough warmth. When he woke up that morning, he blushed seeing how she clung to him. He laid there for a few minutes in peace before getting up to start his day

Jamil started to fall for her after Book 4/before Book 5. Even though his memory from his Overblot was hazy, he remembered how determined she was when she fought against him. It’s a quality he admires about her and what causes him to develop a crush

When he realized he had a crush on her, he couldn’t look her in the eye for a while. It completely took him by surprise and he had no idea what to do about it. When the training camp for the VDC rolled around, he wanted to die. Live with his crush for a while, in her dorm! Just kill him now.

Estella started to fall for him during Book 6. When she, Rook, Epel, Thurio, and Cato reunited with the other Overblot boys and Fanner, she felt incredibly relieved to see Jamil. Out of all of them, she was most worried about Grim, Fanner, and him. She wondered why after a moment. Before they descended down into Tartus, she wished Jamil luck and checked up on him after Idia was defeated

She realized she had a crush on him after Book 7. Romeo was the one who saw the love struck gaze in her eyes whenever Jamil was around. He knew right then and there and teased her about it at the dorm. Her face went red as that was the moment her emotions about him made sense

She went and locked herself in her room and hide there for quite a while. Stephanie was the one who got her out of her room when one of her experiment caused a fire in the dorm’s lab. Jamil had came by to see if she was okay and she short circuited for a moment

The song I associate this ship with is Breaking Free from High School Musical. It fits them so well

Estella Garcia

A girl who comes from money. She’s a shy and quiet girl who would just rather mind her own business, but is friendly if you get to know her. However, people don’t like the fact that she’s wealthy and spread rumors that she’s spoiled, entitled, a sugar mama, etc. and some have spread rumors that her family has done shady stuff for years and now decided to get rich off it. She’s a part of the Ramshackle Sorority, majoring in writing/literature while minoring in music. She ignores the rumors as best as she can but sometimes she cries alone in her dorm room, remembering how she was bullied like that and worse back in her past school years. The bullying has caused her to hurt herself and almost killed herself. She has gained depression from years of bullying and mostly keeps to herself. When the murders started happening, a lot of people accused her of being the murderer. She started investigating to prove those people wrong and some curiosity

Jamil Viper

Estella’s boyfriend and part of the Scarabia fraternity, serving as the vice head. He mostly makes sure that Kalim is alive as his job as his servant. For him, Estella is solace that he can retreat to when looking after Kalim is too much. He treasures her so much. He majors in History while minoring in Dance and is in the college’s basketball team. He ignores the rumors about him being a sugar baby and other stuff but he doesn’t ignore the rumors about his girlfriend. He targets those who harass Estella and people trying to gain whatever knowledge she knows from her family. He is called The Snake Charmer as he gains those people’s trusts and then kill them when they least expect it.

Can I Have This Dance? (Jamil X OC)

Estella adjusted the mask on her face out of nervousness. She had been at the school for a few weeks and had enjoyed her time so far, other than being targeted by the resident mean girl. She needed a break from Night Raven after dealing with overblot after overblot. She was nervous because this event brings her friends from NRC to her current school, White Ash Institute. The Midnight Ball is a legendary event and one she had learned about a week ago. The three magic schools gather at White Ash for a masquerade ball and at midnight you see who you danced with. It reminded her of Cinderella. The girls were given the choice to create their own gowns and mask. She used the sewing skills that Crewel had taught her to use.

Her mask was made of black lace with red roses near the upper left of it. It was tied around her head in a comfortable yet tight knot. It covered the upper part of her face. Her dress was black and sleeveless, with some black lace coming from the chest a few inches and a red belt with black lace sewn under it on her waist. The some of the black cloth was pinned out of the way of her legs and covered by some red cloth. Underneath the red cloth was a thin layer of black lace. She wore black flats on her feet, tying some left over strips of cloth around her feet and ankles to give the illusion of her wearing ballet shoes. She always wanted a dress like this after seeing it in a music video back home.

The girls all stood in the ballroom and at dusk the doors opened and they boys walked in. When the crowds started gathering she stuck to the wall. She watched everyone else dance and try to guess her friends from both schools. For most of the night, she stood there, watching everyone else. A set of footsteps walking in her direction broke her out of her trance. She jumped a little, startled and looked at the direction of who was walking towards her. It was a boy with tan skin and long brown hair. Most of the strands were flowing but a few were in small braids and it was held back by a golden ponytail holder. His midnight black tuxedo looked amazing on him. Within the jacket was a red rose. His maroon shirt stood out among all the black, like a bright flash. On his black tie was the design of a golden scarab beetle. Her attention went to his mask. Like the shirt it was maroon and looked like snake skin.

“Why aren’t you dancing?” He asked.

“I’m much of a dancer.” She responded.

“That’s a shame.” He leaned onto the wall, next to her. “I was hoping to dance with you.”

“If you’re going to ask someone to dance with you then you should ask.”

“But you said you’re not much of one.”

“True but I would still accept an invitation.”

A laugh erupted from his throat. She looked at him a bit offended and confused. What was so funny? He stopped laughing and held a hand out to her. “Then can I have this dance?” He asked.

“Sure.”

She put her hand in his and let him lead her to the dance floor. They stood in the middle of the dancing ring, not to close to middle yet not close to the edge. He wrapped an arm around her waist and put the other on her shoulder. She put a hand on his shoulder and the other on his chest. His heart fluttered at her gentle and shy touch. What she didn’t know was that he fell for her when she helped him through a difficult time in his life.

She looked at her feet, trying to remember the steps to a waltz. He used his right index and middle fingers to lift her head to meet his eyes. “Jus keep your eyes on me.” He said. He returned his hand to where it was previously and the two started to dance. She stepped on his feet a few times at first. Each time she did, he smiled softly at her. She fell into the beat and the two danced gracefully. They gravitated to the middle of the room in their dance. A few people move out of their way, watching the two gravitate to the music and dance like the only two people in the world. They blended in and stood out among the swirls of bodies and colorful gowns.

The male quickly looked at her dancing and chuckled. “You say you’re not much of a dancer yet you dance good.” He observed.

“I practiced when I got the chance.” She responded, face burning a light pink. It was true and her distraction caused her to step on his foot again. He merely snickered at the action. She huffed and was about to respond when the bells started to ring. Everyone looked at the clock and saw the time. Midnight. It was time to remove their masks. They let go of each other and pulled off their masks. Estella’s eyes widened and her face burned red as she saw the face of her dance partner. It was someone she has a crush on but was too shy to reveal her feelings.

He only smiled at her. “Hello Estella.” Jamil said.
