Well. Bearded dragon ended up coming home with Jack last night due to work shift making it easy to just get him then.

Sometimes I hate being right. I'd been getting increasingly certain that this kiddo was gonna be in bad shape from the info and pictures we kept getting. Well. Let me introduce you to Ed.

Yeah. Poor bub has moderate to severe MBD. He can't even lift himself off the ground really, and he moves by shuffling along on his belly, pulling himself with his front legs. His legs feel like undercooked noodles.

They dumped crickets in the 20g with him, so we moved him over to the 40g last night. Weird makeshift set up bc we didn't even have a lid yet, getting one today. Used the heat and (unused??) Uvb light they had for right now, getting proper stuff ASAP. He's got cloth puppy pads for the floor right now, which seems to work well. Soft, but stay put so he can move.

Joel is getting greens this morning, Jack is getting the lid and some slate & bricks for a better basking spot. May have to do just the slate if he can't even get up a ramp right now, but hoping he can so it can double as a hide. He's dehydrated as well, so that's adding to his current struggle. We decided against trying to syringe him some water last night, to avoid stressing him more than he already was.

Jack's going to work on hydration today, and also calling the vet so we can get him in next week. We're expecting at least bloodwork, probably x-rays, and then we'll see what the vet thinks about the chances of improving his state. Honestly, euthanasia is on the table, but we're still hoping to avoid that. We'd really like to at least see how he responds to a proper set up & food, and if there's any improvement with some treatment time.

And I guess I'm eating my words, bc if we don't euthanize this bub, he's probably fucking staying now! He's going to be disabled to some degree for the rest of his life, and I suppose we could still likely find someone willing to take him, but it does add further complication.

My boys know me well though. Apparently they were already taking bets on how likely we were to keep him. 🤦 I chose my life partners well, I think.

Since there’s all the loud rumbling noises, sky flashes, and water outside, what better time to post this picture from last week when my human was able to take me outside in the warm sun?

Oh, and I did want to note something. My human has a thing called ‘ocd,’ so using her phone while spending time with me can be hard for her (‘lizard germs,’ she affectionately says). That’s why most of my photos on here are with me in my tank (well, that and that I really prefer to stay in with my hammock and personal sun). Those are easier for her to take than ones when I’m out and about. But she does manage sometimes.

Like the turtles, they also live on the reptile colony in Gallia, but a lot of these guys have been petitioning to be allowed into Goldoa... I have a feeling they'd be too rowdy for the dragons, don't you? ;)

i think he’s weak to affection tbh, but he’s pretty self-sufficient so it’s not often that he seeks it out. that won’t stop me tho !!!! i’ll distract him by asking questions and when he’s talking i’ll slowly pull him into my arms, and before he knows it i’m already hugging him from behind heh he won’t ask for affection but he can’t reject it either. so when he’ll just sit a little grumpily, reading his little books or sorting through the archives but if he had a little dragon tail it would be wrapped around me mhmh

Again, I don’t know what’s happening in my brain, but I’m sorting all the Koopas by Shell Type (both canon and headcanon for diversity sake) and I’ve decided these guys are all part of the same genus

Silly Game Time: Who are some of your favorite reptile characters? And what do you like about them?

They could be fully a real reptile (snakes, lizards, crocodilians--heck I'll even let you include amphibians like frogs, toads, newts, and salamanders if you want), partially reptile (like naga a partially humans and dragons are partually anything else), humanoid from fantasy or sci-fi (kobolds or silurians, etc.), or something else entirely. All that matters is that they're reptilain or reptoid.

hmm... Lizard people... Oddly enough, it's hard trying to find characters with some sort of reptile aspect, so this list is probably going to be short and from random places. Just a heads up 😅

I really like Windwalker from the How to Train Your Dragon books. He is Hiccup's riding dragon and doesn't really talk much, he's really shy and skiddish but no matter what is always there for Hiccup no matter the danger.

Another one I like is a little odd, but Cyprius from the Rolling With Difficulty DnD Podcast season 4 I think? He's really fun and I enjoyed every scene he was in. He was very funny.

ROGELIO FROM SHERA! He was really cool and I very much loved it when the show took the time to flesh out him and his companions.

That's all I can think of right now. But, you know what? I think reptiles need to be used more often for character design. Same with dragon/human hybrids give me characters that can transform into dragons that also still have draconic traits in their human form.

Teen TIGERRS went on a fabulous OUTing to Snake Discovery on the 21st! A much anticipated trip to commune with our reptilian and amphibian brethren.
