Thinking about how Kusunoki Taiten suggested that Yonamine's character development in Dragonaut came from being cool with the fact that he got cucked by space dragon. I'm never going to get over being robbed of that throuple.

They were bitten by the spider when working on genetic research with their parents (who are also scientists.) It sent them into a coma for 3 days, but weren't killed due to their portal abilities (they emit small amounts of radiation) + the quick administration of the anti-venom (as Katipō are poisonous, although we haven't had anyone die since 1901).

(This isn't particularly relevant to the above point, but their dad was also a superhero - the portals were passed down from him - and found out about their powers first. Also, their webs are organic, but they have gloves to control the portals.)

Their portals are a pain in Miguel's ass (and that's putting it simply.) They are essentially a walking anomaly (he's arrested/imprisoned them multiple times -- enough for them to keep count).

As for the spider society, they blend in well, and sort of occupy a niche, but since they're not always there it isn't always consistent/hard to nail down if they fit. Bounce off Hobie okay, though.

In terms of food, probably, most likely to chew gum (ironically, mostly peppermint - as it has a consistent flavour and not that much of an aftertaste) or hot chips or pies (basically just any food you can find at a dairy*.) Which I realise, does sound stereotypically kiwi, but it is how it is.

*bodega? I have no idea what you call them in america.
