You'll never catch me doing a ghost AU of any ship. Fuck that. There was this old anime I was really into when I was a kid called Ginban Kaleidoscope and I have hated romances that involved ghosts ever since. Never making myself go thru that heartbreak, man.

(For those curious: It was about a figure skater who was stuck with the ghost of a stunt pilot for 100 days. They fall in love but he still passed on by the time the 100 days was over ;-; )

some notes: if i read the manga, i assume i would rate hni higher, umishou is better than free in terms of swimming, i prefer ginban kaleidoscope more than yoi for ice skating despite finding it pretty repetitive

Liking shoujo series is suffering... a rant 🤦🤦🤦

Please don't get me wrong, I really like and enjoy this genre. But I still need to rant about it.

See this gif right here? It's from Ginban Kaleidoscope, one of my favorite series. It's like Yuri On Ice! except the protag is this girl and she gets possessed by a ghost for 100 days.

I thought this was really interesting because it's an uncommon trope and it was done well. Until I realized...

It's incomplete.

Shoujo animes either do an open ending or come up with their own final. They barely follow the manga / source material once they are done with the worldbuilding.

You can think "It's fine just read the manga" but series like this one don't even have all volumes available for reading online. They only have the first few volumes and the rest is on sale in Japan.

Now I really want to know what happens in the final but I'll never get to learn it because I can't pay 40ish dollars per volume. It costs too much in my currency.

On the other hand, being a shounen fan is much easier. The series are popular worldwide so we get chapter leaks and translations on a weekly or monthly basis. We can find them easily too.

I just think it's unfair and frustrating. We should be able to find shoujo series easier too 🥺😭
