I drew this one a while back inspired by one of the "No one is Alone" reprises from Into the Woods. Specifically the one after the Baker lost his wife and started to tell his son the story of the play. (Plus some special guests. XD)
I felt like Drac could relate to that for...obvious reasons.
Bonus: A new family portrait, and some old reminders of Martha, including the famous postcard, old family portrait, and Martha's book! Also, the family portrait says "My family" in both Romanian and Russian.

I admit as an aroace shipper myself even I'm still learning how this works, but Drericka is Pan+Aspec. Grey, specifically. Drac's been in a total of 2 known relationships in 125 years with no genuine interest shown in anyone else. For him, This often manifests in his "Blue-screening"/Awkwardness and insecurity in relationships, even though he's supposedly more experienced and Ericka is actually quite supportive of the whole thing. They're very Gomez and Morticia/Fester and Debbie but Drac ISN'T quite as amorous as his Addams-esque inspirations - though there was that Transformania scene reminiscent of Gomez and Morticia at the charity auction, I don't see Drac seriously going wild when Ericka speaks french or kissing her up the arm or something like that outside of a bit. And despite her femme fatale mystique who loves messing with him/being his exception for alot of things and wants to loosen Drac up a bit, push comes to shove Ericka wouldn't go farther than Drac was really comfortable with when it counted. He IS romance and sex favorable though (I mean, Mavis had to come from somewhere, right?) and they're quite kinky together. That said, I personally tend to focus on fluff and occasional spice. For Drericka, alot of this is the two of them looking out for and taking care of each other since they're both traumatized anxious workaholics who're better at looking after other people than themselves. Part of the thing is, I'm not sure Drac KNOWS he's aspec or not, he has alot of internalized aphobia, and Ericka HERSELF is queer (also unknown if she KNOWS she is or not) raised by an aspec and is pretty much down for anything. They probably figure their own views are just...how people are until Pan and Greyrose were explained to them.
For Drartha, I believe they were both Greyrose, and again, didn't know it. You get the vibes theirs was a much more chaste/innocent seeming relationship based on Drac's reaction to Ericka and the Pack's "We never saw you like this" reaction. And then there's the famous "You only Zing once in your life" line that Martha famously said to Mavis (Also at the least Ace-spec.) They still very much give off Gomez and Morticia vibes, if nothing else Drac is very much the goofy "I love my wife" guy while Martha is the beautiful goth queen BUT they probably weren't QUITE as all over eachother (As much as I do love the idea of putting them in Gomez and Morticia-like situations. They ARE perfect.) Which is also common for aspecs where the attraction is different if the other person is allo or aspec.
Interestingly backwards from the way my friend @black-ak9 seems to have Ericka and Martha! (And Mavis.) They have Ericka as Demi and Martha and Mavis as Bi, I have Ericka as Pan and Martha and Mavis as aspec.
the issue with shipping aro/ace characters isn't putting them into relationships, it's the fact that no one adds how their sexuality impacts the relationship at large. And how it'll always be different from your average romantic relationship in some way.

Oh lord yes!!! Not only does it beautifully capture his feelings for Martha and how even though she's gone and he's moved on that he hasn't forgotten her, but DRAC PLAYING FOR ERICKA AND HER LOVING IT, I FLIPPIN LOVE THIS TROPE!!!
Sleepless Nights (a Hotel Transylvania fanfic)
Summary: Drac has some difficulty sleeping, as memories of a certain night exactly 124 years ago haunts his thoughts
__________________________________________
It was a beautiful day.
The sun was brilliantly shining above. Not a cloud dotted the sky. Birds were chirping from their perch in the trees. And, being nocturnal, such a beautiful day was utilized by monsters all around Hotel Transylvania, who were dozing contently about.
Well, except for a certain vampire.
Unlike his beloved, Drac could not succumb to the call of sleep, no matter how drowsy he felt, or how much his eyelids were drooping. There was that niggling thought - a memory, a reminder – that persisted to keep him awake. One that he had not been able to erase ever since that one, singular, terrible night. A night that had happened exactly 124 years ago.
It was incredulous to Drac, how it felt as though not a day had passed since then. And yet, so much did, with a lot of it leading to the actions he had taken and events that had occurred. But, as his mind so cruelly reminded him, it had all stemmed from that one sole event. If that hadn’t happened, who knew how things would have turned out for him, for Mavis… for his wife…
As if the universe had been cued to his internal thoughts, the form cuddled next to him suddenly shifted, soft, drowsy hands flitting lightly over his bare chest accompanied by a light sigh-like moan. The Count felt some of the dark thoughts lift from him in a relieving wave, leaving Drac with only fondness towards the woman resting upon his body. The warmth she radiated from her human self seeped into him like warm honey, relaxing some of the tension that had begun to overtake his muscles. He peered down at Ericka now and sighed, somewhat envious, marveling at how easily she slept and how peaceful she looked in that moment, comforted both by the blanket draped across them as well as the gentle contact of their skins, untroubled.
Well, a part of him did remind himself that Ericka was not without her own troubles, namely, her struggle with the ordeal on the cruise and family name. Sure, the woman had proven her worth in the heroic act of saving Drac from the Kraken’s clutches and standing up against the legacy that her great-grandfather had brainwashed her to believe in for so long. But the victory did not entirely satisfy Ericka. She was plagued with the horror of what she was about to let happen, to lose a love… a zing… It was a thing that monsters wouldn’t dare to imagine. But Drac didn’t have to.
With a sigh, he detached himself from Ericka, gently moving her away so not to disturb her slumber and draping the sheets over her form when he rose from the bed. Slipping on his pajama pants for some decency, he padded over to the window in the other room, drawing back the curtains to get a view of the outdoors. Drac had to admit that most of his son-in-law’s ideas were rather nonsensical, but he actually could appreciate the idea for repaneling the hotel’s windows with UV protective glass. In that way, the Count could now stand before the sun’s rays indoors without burning and take a look out at the perfect day that he should have been asleep to. This day that was as bright and cheery and as opposite as it could get from Drac’s current mood.
When he had thought of his wife, it had not been the slumbering beauty that still remained dozing as peacefully content as ever upon their bed. True, they were wed, with the golden bands around each other ring fingers to prove it, but Drac instead had the first woman who had stolen his heart and made him feel that giddy, euphoric sensation, so ideal it felt almost unreal.
Martha.
Her name alone still brought such a pang of sadness to his heart, a tightness that squeezed him, a stinging that pricked his skin, a dryness that parched his throat… and a shudder that went down his spine as he recalled those last, horrible moments he had seen her. The despair in her eyes. The fear…
Drac suddenly wished he was back in the bed, gliding his fingers over the smooth, rosy expanse that was Ericka’s skin. Caressing her soothed his mind, allowing him to focus on something other than his past trauma. But despite this effort, his mind kept wandering back to the memories, bringing them right back into his consciousness, and so much more than ever today.
The Count instead settled for rubbing his hands up and down his arms, the motion working not quite in the same way but still providing the comfort that he sought nonetheless. It's not that he didn't want to forget. It was the last thing he wanted to do. How could he forget his zing? She had meant the world to him, and still did, even in her absence. But it was that said absence that filled him with dread, made him uneasy and reminded him that this was the truth he was living. And nothing could be done to change it.
Drac shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose and willing himself to remember that he still had Martha in his life. Not her in her physical, living form, but in the family around him. Being her daughter, Mavis was a constant reminder of that fact, inheriting her mother’s grace and beauty, as well as her everlasting kindness. Little Dennis also shared some characteristics as his grandmother. Drac could smile to himself recalling certain expressions the boy made that were a spitting image of the woman, or the way his blue eyes sparkled up at him with admiration.
Aside from his family, Drac also had material reminders of his late wife. The portrait that he’d managed to salvage from the fire had captured them both in their prime, at a time where their love was young and hardships were still ages away. For years he had kept it in his room, approaching it and gazing upon her still, painted figure, recalling the wonderful memories he’d shared with her and held dear to his heart. His old ring was another material reminder of her, a wedding band with a beautiful red gemstone on top that sparkled elegantly in the light. She had had one just like it, and his had found residence on the finger of his left hand for over a century before he was able to remove it and finally move on. And then, he thought, there was also the gorgeous little ukulele that was sitting upon his desk now, looking as fresh out of the box as it was so long ago when he received it as a gift from Martha, a memento of their time spent in paradise (or Hawaii as one may better know it as) after they first met and began dating.
With sluggish steps, he approached the desk, running his hands longingly over the taut strings and wooden surface of the instrument. Many a time he had used it as a one-man ‘concert’ to sing various songs for Martha, Mavis, and Dennis. Why, just the other night his grandson had asked him how exactly it was that it was played, and Drac had gladly begun the process of carefully teaching Dennis how to pluck out melodious chords, in hopes that the boy would one day become as skilled as he was. The thought putting a smirk onto his face, Drac picked the instrument up and went back to sit at the window, cradling the ukulele in his lap. He very well remembered the first time he had played the instrument. It was for Martha, right at the one-week anniversary of their relationship. On automatic, his fingers resumed the position that they had taken upon the ukulele strings for that simple little song he’d tuned out for her, and began to play it out again. What resulted was a soft, sweet melody, etching itself into his mind and heart. The melody brought with it a wave of nostalgia, cheery but melancholic at the same time, bringing forth a pool of fresh tears that began to brim at the corners of his eyes. As his mind wandered, his fingers continued their caressing dance on the strings, and soon they brought the sweet little song to an end in a soft, tender crescendo.
A satisfied sigh escaped his lips in that moment, the soft sound accompanied by an identical sigh from somewhere behind him. Turning towards the source in sudden bewilderment, he came face-to-face with Ericka. She stood shyly a few paces away, having seemingly just awakened. Neither said anything for a moment, allowing Drac the time to let his gaze roam over her, down from the petite bare feet to the tussled platinum-blonde curls on her bed-head. Rather than a robe, the woman had vouched for donning his satin pajama top, the article of clothing fitting her just about as well as a short dress, given Drac’s difference in height that allowed its hems to extend enough so that it hung above her knees. The sleeves dangled a bit loosely, the buttons having been fastened in a haste, as evident by how the top few had remained undone in favor of ensuring the ones in the middle were properly hooked so to cover her figure. The twinkle in her blue eyes was indicative to him that she was much more alert than what her tired appearance may have been giving off.
Conscious of his gaze, Ericka shifted her weight upon her feet, interpreting it as scrutiny for interrupting him at what appeared to be a private moment. She bit her lip, and began to speak ever so timidly.
“I… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you…” She trailed off, not knowing what else to say.
But it turned out she didn’t need to search for any more words. Gathering his senses, Drac smiled kindly at her, setting down the ukulele and approaching the woman to give her an appropriate greeting kiss.
“Don’t worry about it, honeybat,” he assured when they parted, tenderly caressing her cheek. “I should be the one apologizing. I did not mean to awaken you.”
Ericka shook her head. “You didn’t, Drac,” she whispered. “Have you just… ever had one of those sleepless nights?”
Drac nodded, averting his eyes as he felt his mood going back to that cloud of melancholic sorrow that seemed to want to engulf him once more. “Yes,” he finally muttered. “I have." He dared a glance up to gage her reaction, and could see that same look of despondency reflected back in her eyes. But along with it was a look of knowing that made Drac feel vulnerable under her gaze. She was aware why it was that he was having difficulty drifting off tonight. Ericka had been informed early on in their relationship of the tragedy that had occurred so long ago, scarring her husband’s soul permanently as the memory of it all still weighed down heavily upon him. The blame and regret, and the hand of time that kept ticking on, unfazed, and unable to reverse. Yet even with such an emotional wound, Drac never failed to show Ericka every sign of how he was still able to live fully and find happiness. The wound would not heal entirely, but taking life one day at a time with the friends and family he loved would in no doubt help dull that pain. Cherishing his experiences with Mavis, Dennis, Ericka, the Pack, even the boisterous Johnny acted as a balm to his spirits, uplifting them from the shadows and keeping the dark thoughts at bay.
It was all this and more that was communicated between she and the vampire in that one flit of an instance that their gazes locked together; the expression in Ericka’s eyes showing just how deeply she empathized with the man and how willing she was to offer her support and love without hesitation if needed. And he was incredibly grateful, honored even, to be able to call the Van Helsing woman his zing. No matter if he was his second, she was his zing all the same, and would always be.
Unbeknownst to the man, a small smile had begun to tug at the corner of his lips, Drac not having felt it until his cheeks began to ache slightly in response with how widely it had grown. Ericka reciprocated the smile with one of her own.
“And besides,” she said, a twinkle in her eyes, “It was beautiful. You have a real talent.”
Drac chuckled bashfully at the compliment. "I appreciate it, my love." Then, a thought entered the Count’s mind, and he smirked as he picked up the ukulele again. “I could teach you someday, you know.”
Ericka grinned, looking down at the instrument in his hands and seeming to give the idea some good consideration before she spoke again. “That really would be pretty cool,” she said, her fingers grazing the top of the strings, “but I think that I’d rather just listen for now.”
The vampire nodded understandingly.  “As you wish, my love." Seating himself back down at the desk, he cradled the ukulele back into his lap and had his fingers resume the position anew. Strumming lightly, he began playing the same tune yet again, this time feeling much more at ease in doing so. Ericka sighed in contentment once more, coming up behind Drac and snaking her arms around his neck. She rested her chin atop his head, a slight sway in her stance as the music lulled the both of them into a peaceful state of serenity.

Oh, very much yes.
Even funnier that Drac here's first wife, Martha, looks very much like Morticia. Bonus: His 2nd wife looks like Debbie.
Morticia Addams: *Does anything*

Wanted to draw some happier Stuff with Drac, Ericka, and Mavis. I like the idea of Ericka NOT being jealous of Martha but rather curious. I like her actually trying to get Drac to talk about her MORE, both to help his grief, keep her memory around and show she's not trying to replace Martha in Mavis' life, she'd basically be like "This person is important to my family and thus is important to me." And...it makes Drac and Mavis happier. It also shows that remarrying doesn't mean forgetting the first love or that they aren't important any more. Which I feel is a big reason HT3 and Ericka's character is hated. (Amatonormativity and dislike of remarriage strikes again!)
I kinda agree with @black-ak9 and @hotelt-resurrection. There's no animosity between Ericka and Martha (aside from Ericka disliking being negarively compared to her by others from the outside.) They'd actually get along swimmingly in a Morticia/Debbie or Morticia/Ophelia kind of way.
On a SADDER note, The 2nd kind of came from a dream in part. But basically, I wanted to Draw Eeicka struggling to comfort Drac and came up with the "Drac's having a bad grief day, kinda beating himself up a bit, and Ericka wants to comfort him but is held back thinking as a human who's family has hurt him so much - not to mention she herself having tried to kill him, she's not sure she has the RIGHT to." I like Ericka comforting Drac as they're both anxious traumatized beans but sometimes... their brains being mean to them is fun too.
Not bad considering these are the most detailed Martha drawings I've done and my problems drawing small. XD
Bonus: On a funnier note, I imagine Ericka fighting with her inner demons in her head at some point like that "You ain't reason, you a little bitch." comic. XD

Hello there!
This blog is mainly for finding roleplays. I roleplay exclusively on Discord (I love making private servers) and am 21+, so minors please DNI. Style-wise I can adapt to my partner, though my favourite way to write is lit for those juicy, introspective moments. NSFW friendly, and I like all sorts of pairs from fxf, mxf, mxm, to any nb pairs. Platonic and found family are fun too!
My messages are always open for people interested in writing with me! I promise I don’t bite, even if some of my muses do.

Under the cut is a list of characters I’ll thread with (who I’d like to play is bolded, if both are bolded I can do either or), though it’s by no means exhaustive. Regardless of how old this post gets, you can message me at any time for those on this list.

Masterlist | Part Five
- - - - -
“Ughhhhhh” you let out a loud groan as your alarm blares through your room, waking you up before you're ready. You sit up and the pounding in your head reminds you of the amount of wine you consumed the night before, and the vampire you consumed it with. Slowly it all comes back to you. The candle lit picnic. The heart wrenching love story. The almost kiss.
Butterflies flutter around your insides as you relive the moment in your head. But they soon disappear when you remember how close you came to being Dracula’s kill of the night.
The clock on the nightstand reminds you that you have somewhere to be. You quickly get ready for work, take some painkillers and head to the high street.
“Morning love!” Maggie calls from the kitchen as you enter the bakery
“Morning Mags” you say, not quite matching her cheerfulness
“How was your evening?” She asks as she continues to knead the bread she’s making “did you get some sleep?”
“Not really no. I, uh… I kinda had a date”
“What?!” She spins around to look at you, spilling flour in the process. She grins at you “who’s the lucky man?.. Or woman? No judgement here”
“Man” you giggle as you carefully consider whether to tell her the truth “well, actually… vampire” you say sheepishly and her face drops.
“Y/N. Please tell me you're joking”
You shake your head and she stares at you.
“Do you understand how dangerous that was? He could have killed you!”
“But he didn’t” you shrug, choosing not to admit he almost did “look, I know it was dangerous but I needed answers from him Mags. And it was actually a really nice night. We talked and laughed a lot, and he told me things that I don't think he would have told me if anyone else was there.”
“You're talking about him as if he isn’t a vampire. A murderer!”
“Maybe that’s not all he is! Maybe he’s more than that. I saw a different side to him last night.”
She watches you for a moment before coming to a realisation “oh my God, you're in love with him”
“No! No, I’m not in love with him”
“But you have feelings for him?”
You look at her and take a deep breath before slowly nodding your head. Maggie closes her eyes and lets out a sigh.
“Oh Y/N. What am I going to do with you, eh?” She walks up to you and pulls you into a hug.
“Are you going to tell Zoe?” You ask quietly.
“Not if you don't want me to”
You let out a sigh of relief.
“BUT you have to keep me in the loop. Okay? You tell me when and where you meet him, every time. And you let me know you're safe. Always.”
“I will, I promise. Thank you Maggie”
“I love you Y/N, I just want you to be happy”
The sound of the front door opening ends your conversation as Maggie goes to serve the first customer of the day. You take your phone out of your pocket and decide to quickly send Dracula a text.
“Can I see you? x”
— — — —
Lying in bed that night you once again find yourself thinking about Dracula. Even though you’ve only known him a short amount of time, he has completely taken over your thoughts. You wonder if he thinks about you as much as you do about him. Clearly not since he hasn’t replied to your text today. You sigh as you roll over in bed and gasp as you see him lying next to you. Before you can say anything his hand is around your throat. You try to scream but no sound comes out. You try to fight, but your limbs disobey. You're completely at his mercy and he manoeuvres himself on top of you.
“You left our little date so quickly last night, I thought I’d finish it now.”
He grins revealing his glowing sharp fangs. With a growl he lowers his head to your neck and you shut your eyes tight as he sinks his teeth in.
Your eyes shoot open as you sit upright in bed and bring your hand up to your neck. No bite marks. It was just a dream. You take deep steadying breaths as you reach over to turn on the bedside light.
“You know you really should lock your windows”
You turn your head and see Dracula outside.
“What are you doing?” You ask, climbing out of bed and walking over to the window “Van Helsing’s guard dogs will see you, why don't just you come-”
“NO!” He stops you “Do not invite me in, it’s not safe. I thought the dream I just gave you would have taught you that”
“You did that?”
“I’m just dropping by to tell you how much I enjoyed talking with you last night, and to say that I am truly sorry about how it ended. After tonight you won’t have to worry about your safety anymore”
“I’m not worried”
“That’s the problem Y/N, you should be! I am a vampire, I have murdered innocent people. You should be terrified of me!”
“Zoe isn’t”
“Zoe has a reason, her blood is like poison to me”
“What?”
“She didn’t tell you? She’s dying, that’s why she isn’t afraid. I can’t drink from her without killing myself in the process. But you, Y/N the only thing stopping me from drinking your blood is my own self control and I cannot rely on that. You saw for yourself last night how quickly I can change, how easy it would have been for me to kill you”
“But you didn’t”
“But I could have! Either you don't understand the danger you're in when you're around me, or you just don't care. Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to you, fascinated by you even. But I cannot allow you to risk your life any longer”
“Surely that’s my choice to make”
“Not anymore. I’m leaving the village”
“No”
“I’m not here to debate! I’m here to apologise which now I have done I can say goodbye”
“No!” You reach out the window and grab his hand, taking him by surprise. “Stay! Please, I don't want you to go. Just come inside and-”
He quickly pulls his hand out of your grasp and looks at you with a slight hint of panic in his eyes which quickly turns to anger “I told you not to invite me in. How could you be so stupid?”
“Drac-”
“Goodbye Y/N”
“No! Dracula!” You call after him but he’s gone.
You grab your phone off the bedside table and call him, but it goes straight to voicemail. Maybe he just needs a couple of days and then he’ll come around. But what if that really was goodbye?
You sink back down into bed and pull your duvet up around you, hugging yourself tightly for comfort as you eventually drift off into a restless sleep.
— — — —
Just over a week later you're awoken one morning by a frantic knocking at the front door. You step into you slippers and grab your dressing down, wrapping around yourself as you run down the stairs. You're surprised to see Zoe stood on the other side when you open the door with a young man you recognise from your first visit to the Harker Foundation. Zoe walks straight past you into your living room and the boy looks at you apologetically.
“Uh, what’s going on?” You ask as you gesture for the boy to come in and close the door behind him.
“Dracula” she drops a file on your dining table and looks at you expectantly.
“What about him?” You reply nonchalantly, shrugging your shoulders.
“Were you ever going to tell us he’s left the village?”
“I presumed you’d know, and clearly you do otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Besides its not like he told me where he was going-”
“London.” Zoe cuts you off “We’ve traced him to London with the help of Jack”
“Hi, I’m Jack” The young man steps forward and waves awkwardly.
“Seem’s Dracula took a liking to Jack’s girlfriend-”
“She wasn’t my- we were just friends” Jack stutters
“-to Jack’s friend.” Zoe corrects herself “So much so that he killed her”
“I’m so sorry” you offer to Jack and he gives you a small smile before you turn back to Zoe “But what has any of this got to do with me?”
“We need you to come with us to London and talk to Dracula. Convince him to come back to the village”
“Why me?”
“He’ll listen to you”
“He wants nothing to do with me! He made that perfectly clear! He won’t even answer my texts, what makes you think he’ll listen to me?”
“He has a connection with you Y/N.” Zoe says, but her voice sounds different “just like he had a connection with your great great grandmother all those years ago. Why else would he spare the life of Sister Y/N? Why would he spare yours now? He feels something for you and it scares him. The man who cannot die is afraid to get close to anyone who can”
You think over her words for a moment, then you remember.
“Martha” you whisper to yourself. Zoe and Jack look at you confused “he had a wife, but she died. It makes sense now, why he is the way he is.”
You think again and take a deep breath, nodding your head.
“I’ll come with you. But I don't think it will change anything”
“Get dressed, we leave in half an hour”

Something Different {BBC Dracula x Reader} [22]
Masterlist
~^*^~
“Drac!”
The gasp of his name filled the hallway, right after the sound of his hand slapping your ass. He chuckled, your pout only managing to be adorable to him.
“I couldn’t help it. My god, I never want to see you wear anything except leggings again.” He breathed.
“Typical male.” You rolled your eyes, hitching the strap of your gym bag higher up your shoulder.
You stalked towards the elevator, ignoring the hot gaze the vampire was currently giving you. Maybe inviting him to the gym was a very bad idea. Especially in the outfit he had decided to sport to “fit in”. A muted grey/green t-shirt, a little baggy, a little low cut on the neckline, exposing just a tease of his collarbones. The black joggers were an anomaly to his usual wardrobe choices.
“Instead of going to the gym, I propose we stay here and improvise.” You finally turned your head to send him a venomous look.
“You literally took months of reluctance to even fucking finger me and now you won’t even let me go to the gym because my leggings rile you up?” You feigned an angry tone, “stay here if that’s how you’re going to be.” You pressed the button, waiting for the elevator.
“I already told you, I can’t do what I want to you. Did our little session the other day ease any of your tension?”
You rolled your eyes, face flushing as you thought back to a few days ago. The doors opened and you strolled in, the tall vampire hot on your heels. You turned to face the doors, only to almost knock into his chest. His arms immediately wrapped around your waist and pulled you up to your tippy toes. You glared up at him as the door snapped shut.
“You didn’t answer my question.” His voice was a little gravelly, the sound of it making your heart skip a beat.
“I rolled my eyes. That’s an answer in my books.”
“Clearly I’m going to have to do something more... strenuous next time.” His lips came down on to your jawline, pressing tender kisses to your skin. You hummed.
Then, his fingers slipped a little lower, eventually making their way to your ass. He squeezed, making sure to get as much into his hands as he could.
“Stop!” You laughed, twisting away from him. His grip tightened.
“Why?” He whispered against your skin, “we are the only occupiers of the elevator, right now. Would it be so terrible?”
“Yes, seriously I’m about to go back upstairs and change.”
“Don’t,” he growled, squeezing harshly, causing your to gasp, your hands moved to snake around his neck, “even think about it.”
“I have no idea what’s made you so possessive all of a sudden, but you pack it in now, mister.” You playfully commanded.
Dracula’s lips continued on your neck, and he clearly had no intention of stopping even after the elevator had reached the bottom of the building and the doors opened.
~^*^~
The gym was an... experience. Upon leaving, you vowed to never let Dracula tag along again. No less than four times did he get into altercations with other men who had been ogling you (three out of the four being during your squat session), and he was adamant on just watching you which was off putting. When you had invited him along, you had hoped that he would actually partake in exercise.
Apparently you were too distracting.
Said the man who had sat on the bench press, practically drooling whilst you did your warming up lunges and stretches.
Yeah, he wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near the gym again if that was where you intended to go.
When you returned back to the apartment, you noticed a missed call on your phone. Your mother. Whilst you had been in contact with her, it was time for her annual summer party, in which all of her friends, and their friends, and her colleagues and their friends crowded your home for hours on end. It was so exhausting to have to socialise with so many people that you didn’t know or care about.
As you called her back, you regretted it almost instantly.
“[First]! Finally, I’ve been trying to get ahold of you!”
“Yeah, sorry, I was at the gym.”
“Look, you know that my party is next week, right? You’re going to come, aren’t you?”
“Erm, I don’t actually know...”
“Oh come on, [First], I haven’t seen you in so long! You have to come!”
“Well, I mean, I’ve not been in London long and-“
“Yes, apparently you’ve shacked up with some man!”
“Mother!” You shrieked. Clearly Dracula had heard, since he turned around to send you the most devilish grin. You batted him away, “that’s not true!”
“Well, Martha rang me up and told me she saw you out shopping with some man your father’s age! And then Daphne FaceTimed me and told me she’d seen you in a car on two occasions with the same man!”
“Oh my god!” You groaned, “stop listening to gossip about your own daughter from the fishwives!” You scolded.
“I’ll keep going if you don’t agree to come.” You could hear her playful smile.
“Alright! Fine, I’ll come.”
“And bring your mystery man - apparently he’s quite a looker-“ you hung up, not wanting to think about your own mother drooling over your boyfriend.
“Who was that lovely woman?” Dracula was very clearly trying to wind you up.
“Oh shut it.” You snapped, “you’re just smug because they think you’re attractive.”
“Well, I am.” He stated matter-of-factly.
“Oh!” You groaned, stomping away to get dressed.
The week dragged. Your mother was constantly ringing to harass you over the party. ‘Black tie but casual, [First]!’ ‘Don’t forget that Brenda’s son Mark is coming, I believe you’d suit each other quite nicely!’ ‘Have you decided what you’re going to wear?’ ‘Your entrance fee can be a platter of those nice little sandwiches you make!’
It was dizzying and to add insult to injury, your mother’s constant inquires on your “mystery man” was blowing up his ego quicker than you could say ‘bloodsucker’. Oh, if you had a stake you’d strike it right through his heart if it meant one moment of peace. You eventually told him about your mother’s plan to hook you up with this Mark (which had been ongoing since you were 16 and he was 18) which switched his mood a whole 180° extremely quickly. Now you had an impatient mother and a grumpy vampire.
Was god punishing you for your fornications with the man currently lying next to you, facing towards the wall instead of you?
Technically you hadn’t even had sex, so technically there was nothing to punish.
Or was it just because he was a vampire?
You scoffed in amusement at your thoughts.
“Thinking about Mark are you?” Dracula grumbled.
“Oh yes.” You jeered, “tall, handsome Mark and how I think I may have to take up my mother’s offer and see him to dinner. I wonder how far he’d go on the first date... it’s been a long time since I’ve had sex-“
Within a matter of seconds, you were pinned under the vampire, his dark pools swimming with all sorts of angst. His lips curled down into a scowl. You felt like you deserved a punch to the face. How you managed to dig yourself an even deeper hole was beyond you.
Well, Dracula found use for the belt that had been on the bedside table and you had learnt your second lesson on purposefully making him jealous. You were sure you were growing addicted to his fingers.
~^*^~
You swallowed, looking over yourself one last time in the mirror before you stepped out of the room. The black satin cami dress was formal, right? It came down to your knees, with a little bit of a peplum hem at the bottom. It was a little revealing, mostly on your chest, but you had accessoried to keep the attention on the gorgeous Whitby Jet wrapped around your neck concealing your bite. Yes, you looked fine.
Nerves would always eat you up before you attended these stupid parties.
Stepping out into the main room, you held your breath. Holy fuck. Dracula was leaning against the table, clearly bored of waiting for you. His hair was tousled back, a few strands falling forwards towards his forehead. A black shirt sat undone on the upper half of his chest, and over the top a black suit jacket rolled up past the elbows. You oggled his forearms and the image of the way they flexed as he pumped his fingers into you flashed through your head. Your eyes moved down to his legs, form fitting suit pants showcasing his thighs and you almost drooled. Running a hand through your hair, you coughed, grabbing his attention.
The moment his eyes fell on you, your heart quite literally stopped. His eyes... oh dear god. It was the way you’d begged god to make someone look at you. Just once. So much love, a sparkle of utter awe of you, glistening the truth of his affection. His lips quirked up into a smile. His eyes racked over your body, loving the way your dress fit you perfectly, hinting at your body but leaving the majority of it to the imagination. It was long enough to not be dignity-diminishing, but short enough to give attention to your legs.
“If I hadn’t made a promise to give you the best life, I would take you right here on this table,” he patted the marble, “and drink every ounce of nectar within your veins.”
“Keep talking like that and I will make you do it.” You smirked.
“I promised you I’d help you live,” he prowled towards you, unable to wait another moment to pull you into him, “and I believe you see our union differently to how I do.” He fornwed just a little and you pulled yourself into him, drowning him in your perfume and warmth.
“It’s just sex.” You retorted, looking up at him.
“Not with you it wouldn’t be.” He whispered, “and whatever coward made you think that it’s “just sex” would be advised to never come a step near to me.”
“Why, would you teach him your ideas on union?” You chuckled, your slightly dirty joke apparently going over his head.
“I’d fucking kill him for taking your body so intimately and convincing you that it meant nothing.”
You chuckled, pressing a sweet kiss to his neck. He hummed, feeling the soft fabric of your dress beneath his fingertips. He was so thankful that you had chosen him. Lucky was the understatement of the century.
~^*^~
Your mother continued to look out of the window every minute or so, anticipating your arrival. After most adamantly demanding that you bring the gentleman you had been living with, she was at a peaked curiosity. Was he truly so much older than you? And was he as handsome as her friends made out?
He turned out to be definitely rich, pulling up in a sparkling Jaguar. She almost squealed in anticipation - much like a teenager - and the tray of appetisers she had been holding flew up into the air.
Your father grumbled at the commotion and apologised to the men he had been speaking to. He explained that your mother was on edge, awaiting to see what her daughter was about to drag into the house.
The aura that swept the house when you and Dracula entered seemed to affect every guest present, and all eyes were suddenly on you.
“[First]!” She greeted lovingly, pretending she hadn’t been waiting for the last 45 minutes by th window.
“Hi mother,” you greeted, letting her pull you into a brief hug. Her eyes wandered past you and to the tall gentleman standing just at the step of the door, smiling sheepishly, “it’s alright, love. You can come in.”
Your wicked eyes sent him a mischevuous look. He frowned, knowing that you were internally laughing at him still not entering without an invitation. Would your parents mind so much if he spanked you in front of them?
“And, my, who is this... gentleman?” She breathed, clearly impressed by his face, but unimpressed at his presence with you.
“This is-“
“Count Dracula.” He cut your off, “it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mrs. [Last].” He smiled at her, taking her hand and briefly kissing her knuckles, “[First] has told me so much about what an amazing woman you are.” She couldn’t help but laugh airily at the compliment.
“Well, I’ve done my best for my daughter. Come on through, both of you. [First], your father is just by the kitchen.”
She rushed past you, pushing past people as quickly as she could to make her way back to the kitchen. That gossip! Your eyes filtered through the people until you found your father talking to a few people. Intertwining your fingers with Dracula’s, you began to pull him into the living room when you were stopped by a man you didn’t recognise.
“What an honour it is, Count Dracula! My name is Richard Johnson, I own Johnson and Moore, a law company under your own. I was wondering when I’d finally meet the famous Dracula.” You turned to look at Dracula, who was smiling a little shyly.
“Yes, it is a pleasure to meet you as well, however as you can see I’m with-“
“No, it’s okay!” You quickly interjected, “I better go say hello to my dad before he feels rejected. I’ll let you two businessmen talk.” You winked at the vampire before scampering off towards your father.
“What a beautiful little thing she is!” Richard eyed you as you left, “you’ve got to tell me how you got such a young one.” He laughed.
“Well, I could tell you,” Dracula began with a fake smile, “but I’d have to kill you afterwards.”
Neither of them realised that you had heard and you grinned at Dracula’s words.
Your arms snaked around your father’s waist as you rested your head on his shoulder. He continued his sentence to the two men he was engaged in conversation with. When he had finished, he took a sip from his drink and then manuvered his head to press a kiss to your forehead.
“Here she is, my little detective!” He laughed, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, “you wouldn’t believe this kid used to poop in our garden drain, would you?”
“Do you have to say that to everyone you introduce me to?” You rolled your eyes, but you were grinning.
“Baby, I’m going to bring it up at your wedding and tell all of my grandbabies.” The two men standing opposite from you laughed at his words.
“I’ve read some of your journals, [First], you’ve grown into a very intelligent and respectable young woman.” You pulled yourself from your father as he spoke to you, smiling shyly.
“Thank you, I’ve worked hard to be where I am today.”
“Yes, didn’t you spent quite some time in Yorkshire?” The other man began, “your father was telling us you were part of some coverup story within the Jonathan Harker Foundation.”
“Well, that’s simply not true. And even if it were, I couldn’t tell you, Pauly.” You grinned, clearly teasing him.
“Awe, come on, [First]! Don’t you remember when I used to dress up as Santa and bring you all those wonderful presents?”
“Well, I suppose I could tell you,” you began, “but I’d have to kill you afterwards.”
Your eyes moved across the other side of the room and locked with your favourite pair in the entire world. He was smirking right back at you. ‘Touche’ he mouthed at you. His eyes sparkled as they continuously washed over you. Wait... was he really eye fucking you in a room full of people?! Your father’s conversation ended quickly after that and he was quick to pull you into the corner to have a private word with you.
“You, young lady, are driving your mother up the wall with the gentleman you’ve been seeing, you know that don’t you?” He was unable to hold back his amusement.
“Of course I know that.” You laughed.
“Then go and talk to her!” He laughed. Clearly he was already growing drunk.
“Alrighty. Don’t drink too much, okay?” You patted his arm, side stepping to get ready to make your way to the kitchen.
“I can’t promise you anything, buttonnose.” He pressed a kiss to your cheek and sent you on your way to the kitchen.
Before you even made your way in, you could hear all of the wives whispering and giggling. Did they seriously not realise that they were not still school girls? You rolled your eyes and made your way in.
Your mother jumped at your intrusion and you were soon bombarded in compliments on how pretty you’d gotten, how tall you’d grown, congratulations on your work, and question upon question about Dracula and intimate details of your plans. Mostly marriage and children.
Two hours later and you found yourself by your mother’s side. Dracula had blended in well, making conversation with almost everyone that approached him. You had barely seen him, but your mother had been talking quite a bit to him. Standing washing your hands after eating a few greasy little bites, she came to your aide.
You were dreading whatever she had to say and prayed that this would be a short and sweet conversation. She was obsessed with you getting into a relationship and you had finally found someone that made you happy and she wasn’t satisfied.
“[First],” she began warily, “Dracula seems... nice...”
“He is.” You answered stoically.
“When did you meet him?”
“When I was working in Whitby last year.” You grasped a tea towel, beginning to dry your hands.
“Is he a detective like you?”
“First of all, I am not a detective - I’m a Supervisory Special Agent specialising in criminology. Secondly, he is not a detective and you would know from all of your eavesdropping that he is a businessman.”
“Don’t accuse your own mother of eavesdropping!” She scolded.
“Weren’t you?” You challenged.
“I just... I just think you’ve made a mistake, [First]. He’s your father’s age for crying out loud!” She hissed, clearly not wanting the other wives to hear such an embarrassing conversation.
Silly woman. He’s ten times your father’s age.
You scoffed at her words.
“What, so because he’s a little older than me I can’t be with him?”
“No, I’m not saying that I’m just-... is he your sugar daddy?!” She suddenly gasped.
“No mother!” You exclaimed.
“I had to ask, sorry.”
“What, did Brenda tell you that? Or maybe Daphne? When will you all grow up and stop gossiping over your own children?!” She went quiet.
“...Will you at least consider Mark...?”
You groaned, having to throw the tea towel down and leave the room. Your face was flushed with anger and when you looked back up, your jaw hit the ground.
“Jack?”

June reading updates!
I feel like I’ve been really busy, but I’ve also simultaneously read a lot?
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson. Very gothic adult fantasy novella loosely inspired by Dracula about a terrible vampire’s lovers teaming up to kill him. Personally, I think if vampires are allowed to make a post-Twilight comeback they should be very gothic and super queer so thank you for delivering on that front, S.T. Gibson.
Persephone in the Late Anthropocene by Megan Grumbling. Poetry inspired by the myth of Persephone and climate change–super interesting.
That Way Madness Lies edited by Dahlia Adler. Young adult anthology inspired by Shakespeare. A bit of a mixed bag, as all anthologies are (I think the tragedies worked a bit less well?) but there were some fun stories and I enjoyed the diverse range of voices.
Black Water Sister by Zen Cho. Adult urban fantasy novel about a young woman in present-day Malaysia being haunted by the very bossy ghost of her recently-deceased grandmother. Zen Cho is pretty much an auto-read author for me this didn’t disappoint–I liked the way the supernatural aspects tied into the main character’s family’s secrets and her experience as a closeted lesbian and daughter of Malaysian immigrants.
The Deep by Rivers Solomon. Adult fantasy novella about mermaids born from pregnant African women thrown overboard from slave ships during the transatlantic crossing and the single keeper of their memories, inspired by the song of the same name by clipping. Really interesting exploration of generational trauma and memory, I’ll definitely be reading more from Solomon in the future.
To Love and to Loathe by Martha Waters. Adult historical romance between about a widow and her rival who make a bargain to have a mutually advantageous affair and then catch feelings. Pretty contrived and not that sexy or funny, unfortunately, and I was left overall kind of meh.
Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft. Young adult fantasy about a young healer who finds herself relying on the leading soldier of her country’s sworn enemy to uncover a mystery and prevent another war. I liked the gothic vibes and the main character’s arc, but ultimately wasn’t super sold on the romance.
The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen. Extremely good graphic novel about a young Vietnamese boy growing up in the 90s struggling to find the words to tell his family that he’s gay. It also works a lot of fairytales into the story and will make you Feel Emotions.
Lots of X-Men comics. All-New Wolverine, Hickman’s X-Men, Longshot, Magik, New Mutants, Empire…so much…Help…
