The Throat Wound
My marvelous RL friend @dracoangelica, who isn’t on tumblr much, has a theory that I’ve been really surprised not to see anywhere else.
Kiriona has a throat wound as well as the chest wound. Most people seem to be putting it down to extra damage from the fence rail, which I guess is plausible? But…
Draco and I think she tried to kill herself.
And that’s why Jod made her body indestructible.

@Psychtwist's Fullproof Fandom-Blind Best-of-the-Best Life-Changing Perception-Altering M/M Fic Rec List
So, I read a lot. My journey with reading started with fanfiction, and I still occasionally dip my pruny toes into the AO3 waters here and there. Sometimes you need something angsty/smutty/slow burn-y to get you out of a reading rut, and oftentimes you search out fanfiction in a specific beloved fandom to scratch that itch.
...but sometimes you can't find anything that reaches the particularly itchy spot on your back. Maybe you've run the well dry. Maybe something just isn't clicking with your favorite fandom anymore, or the stories aren't resonating with you in that deep, soul-touching way you want them to. Maybe the writing is just not your style. Maybe you're picky, like me, and you want that novel-length romance-centric love story.
To solve that, here's a list of my absolute favorite book-length fics that can be read completely fandom blind, for your perusing pleasure! All but one are finished, with the unfinished fic still entirely worth the read.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood - gremble | 136k words
Fandom: Dream Daddy
A beautiful gem of a story that revolves around two dads, with one being an OC. The characterizations are perfect, the writing is engaging and engrossing, the ending is wonderfully satisfying, the sense of humor in every chapter is just beyond... I could give it endless praise. The author provides a primer in the chapter 1 notes that will inform you of everything you need to know. In my opinion? A must-read.
Crimsonberries, Blackberries - court_court | 390k words, unfinished
Fandom: Octopath Traveler
Beyond brilliant. The characterizations are fleshed out so wonderfully, the relationships between characters progress so naturally, and despite its length, it is never a slog to read through. I wish I could properly communicate to you how much of a masterpiece this is. You really just have to read it yourself to understand. This fic spans the entirety of the game it's based on, from the start to the end, with an entire cast of characters that you'll learn about and cherish. If you enjoy jRPGs, you will adore this.
Star Burst - dracoangelica, GingerD | 161k words
Fandom: Stardew Valley
Gritty, explicit, very real, very raw, and sometimes even painful to read, but woo boy is it good. It'll play with your emotions in a variety of ways but you'll somehow always root for both of the main characters. Just mind the tags before reading, for those who may be sensitive to certain topics - namely, homophobia. There's a happy ending, though, don't worry ;)
Fuck pride (pride only hurts, it never helps) - ImogenGotDrunk | 44k words
Fandom: Detroit: Become Human
Words don't even begin to express how incredible this story is. It is enemies to lovers done PERFECTLY. The length is perfect. The character development is brilliant. The ANGST! God, it's so good. This is what got me into fanfiction in general, as it was the first fic I ever read. It's now one of my biggest inspirations as a writer. If you read anything on this list, read this.
The Long View Down - kriegersan | 55k words
Fandom: Disco Elysium
The case fic to end all case fics. If you’re into detective/mystery romance and you want to read about an incredibly thought-out murder investigation by two cops that fall for each other, this is your bread and butter. The game this is based on is quite artistic, so expect lots of artistic, almost dreamlike flair while reading this.
I Can Give You What You Need - ThereAndGone | 48k words
Fandom: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The epitome of ‘porn with plot’. Lots of explicit content and smutty goodness, beautifully written, and the end will leave you satisfied and happy. One half of this pairing is Sidon, so stay away if that isn't for you... but gosh. You'll be missing out.
Pattern Breaker - mothbeast | 130k words
Fandom: Call of Duty
This will break you and put you back together. Up until the VERY end, this story is angst central. I haven't touched a Call of Duty game in my lifetime and this tore me to shreds. Read with tissues within reach.
Stay With Me - oneshinyapple | 30k words
Fandom: Marvel
This one is a series with two parts, and both parts are equally as juicy and delectable and just WOW. This is peak banter, peak friends to lovers, peak porn with feelings, peak love confessions. It is the best you’re ever going to fucking get in this category of writing. It’s BRILLIANT. I’m not sure I’ll ever get over this one.
Hopefully you find something here you like. Hopefully it gives you all the feels. And if you have any questions about more recs (trust me, i have PLENTY), my messages are always open. <3

You heard 'er, boys! Self-boosts' back on the menu!
Anyway, pre-emptive apologies for how obnoxious I'm about to be boosting my Patreon.

This Too Is Sacred - Live Reading Recordings!
I have finally had the time to learn how to upload the recordings, so if you missed the live readings and want to listen to get caught up, this post is for you!
Every other Friday, we gather on Discord where the lovely @dracoangelica (fandom blind to both XV and KL) reads us a chapter while my darling brainshare co-author @aliatori and myself make intelligent commentary (i.e. scream and keyboard mash).
Live readings will be uploaded on Soundcloud for a limited time only (due to the limitations of the free service), and as new chapters go live, older chapters will be rotated out.
Tonight we are pleased to present Chapter One: Unstoppable Dauphin, Immovable Scientia!

dracoangelica replied to your post “Instead of asking for a piece, I wanted to ask you about how you...”
Have you ever played Stardew Valley? That’s a great space for original interpretation.
I feel like the only fanfiction I could write for SV would be shamelessly self-insert Farmer/Sebastian/Abigail fanfiction.

14, 28, 61, 82, and 95
14: If you are outside, what are you most likely doing?Whining about wanting to go inside. (Real answer: walking the dogs.)
28: What’s your biggest “what if”?I’m certain my life would be very different if my family hadn’t moved to the U.S. Navy Base in Cuba when I was 13. I spent all my adolescence in a tiny Mayberry military town. Very limited internet. Graduating class of 11. The versions of me in the multiverse where we stayed in Florida, or moved to Iceland (which was actually our first choice), are probably very different than me.
61: Are you wearing socks right now?SHOCKINGLY NO, and my feet are very unhappy about it! /gets up and puts on my big fluffy leopard-print slippers
82: What is your favourite word?Labyrinthine. LOOK AT IT. SAY IT ALOUD. THINK ABOUT ITS MEANING. IT IS A GREAT WORD.
95: You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you gonna go?Are we ignoring the part where I don’t have any accomodations on the other end, or any clothes packed, or a passport...? Yes? Okay then. I would actually love to go back to Cuba! It was beautiful there and the weather was so nice... viva la Caribe!

The great thing about running ones homemade modules is that you can make it as queer as you want an no one can stop youuuuuu
True, but due to time constraints or just having not DM’ed before, a lot of folks like to use pre-written modules.  Having that kind of inclusivity helps remind people that yes, “what you imagine” really ought to include the existence of people who are not Straight White Men.

dracoangelica replied to your post: Okay, I just ordered my groceries for delivery...
I am LITERALLY about to order my groceries online too and you know what? I refuse to feel guilty about it. Because my store offers free pick up as long as you put your order in over 24 hours ahead of time. Like. They gonna be pulling stuff off the shelf for OTHER people. Why not me too? Its job security for retail in a world where so many things are being replaced by machines okay. Fist bump of solidarity with your time saving self.
[fist bumps back] Yaaaas! And, you know, grocery delivery isn't a job I'd want to do, but it is exactly the sort of job my father enjoyed--he likes driving and finding places, has no issue getting things for people; he did jobs a lot like this for a long time. So I’m not even going to guilt myself about making someone drive.
I do feel bad because there was an item that the store ran out of, so they credited my account for it and that affected the delivery person’s tip, but I’ll keep it in mind for next time and make sure to do an amount rather than an auto-percentage.
@kaoticspoonie:
I order mine from Walmart about once every other month, free to car and I just have someone else pick them up.
That is also nice!  I’m kind of debating doing pickup on those nights I need to pick something up from the store on my way home.

ISN'T IT AMAZING
It is THE BEST THING OH MY GOD.

3, 4, 18, 34 please! :)
3. Least favorite part of writing.Trying to fix things that have gone wrong. Realizing your work has a flaw is never a pleasant feeling. Figuring out how to fix it, the work of carrying out the fix, keeping the rest of the story consistent with what you’ve changed -- it’s not nearly as fun as throwing a first draft onto the page.
4. Do you have writing habits or rituals? Not much. I don’t have a special place I write or a Writing Hat or anything. I do have a particular playlist of romantic songs I tend to listen to when I’m writing the Big Dang Kiss, etc.
18. What’s your revision or rewriting process like?Well, before I show it to anyone I read over it at least once myself, catching typos and tweaking word choice. I’m seldom able to spot big problems myself, I’m too close to it. So the next step is to run it by a beta or, for original fiction, a more formal editor. (Sometimes I write fic without a beta, but I do prefer to have one, especially for longer stories.)
When I get back the marked-up file, I’m always nervous and dreading to see what I’ve done wrong. First I just read over all the notes, to see how bad the general damage is. Then I fix the little things first. That’s not the usual advice, fixing a word or sentence in a section with major structural problems is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, but it’s what works for me. It gives me a sense of progress and accomplishment that I need, in order to face the bigger problems. And it helps me focus on those bigger problems because by the time I get to them, they’re all that’s left -- otherwise I feel the presence of the little things hanging over me, fix me fix me fix me. So I work in order of little to moderate to big, usually.
When it comes to making major changes, I’ll often talk things over with myself via typing out my thoughts in a blank document, and/or by explaining it to my bff @dracoangelica and getting her advice. Then I go through the manuscript and mark all the places where changes need to take place; this helps me prevent inconsistencies, and breaks the job down into a list of smaller bites.
I hate revising. But I do like having a better, stronger story at the end of it!
34. Handwritten notes or typed notes?Typed! I never hand-write when I could type. It’s so much faster, and easier to delete/insert/rearrange at will. The only time I hand-write notes is when I’m stuck somewhere without a computer, or I’m mapping something out in a freeform way that doesn’t work on a word processor.

dracoangelica replied to your post:                    I’m done.
Busting your ass for thousands of words and then not getting but the smallest bit of encouragement is balls hard. Hate that it happened to you friend but you have my support as you take care of you.
Thank you, that is much appreciated.
Seriously, I have had readers tell me directly in the face (well, online obviously) when I emailed them like “Oh hi, I have seen you faved me lately and also faved a lot of my stories, thank you so much ^-^ (wouldyoumaybealsokindlyconsiderleavingasmallreviewbecausewereallycraveforthatveryverymuch?)” and they were like “oh yeah, you’Re welcome - oh and I never do that I’m honestly too lazy to comment :-) ” and I was like - what am I even supposed to answer?
And after this week - which was high stress for me and among I even managed to publish a birthday fic stating it was my birthday and at last at least that gets people to leave a small review out of sheer pity, in the end you have that argument just once a year - nothing. Nothing happened. And I am like - okay. I understand. I will just stop doing that to myself. t’s not good for my health and neither for my believe in mankind.
