One of my most prolific garden weeds out here in BC, Canada! Fun fact: if you tincture it, the tincture turns an absolutely gorgeous shade of emerald.
#2506 - Geranium molle - Dove's-foot Crane's-Bill
AKA Awnless Geranium, and a very long list of synonyms.
Originally native to the Mediterranean area, but now widespread, thriving as a weed in drier sandy soils in sunny positions. It's been naturalised in New Zealand since at least 1852.
Ōwhiro Bay, Wellington, New Zealand

Hazelpaw has been apprenticed to Dovefoot!
Flamepaw has been apprenticed to Ashstar!
BEAR WITH ME AS I FIGURE OUT SPEECH BUBBLES AND TEXT SIZE... This was very fun to do! A lot of work, but very fun!!
Written text beneath the cut!
Ashstar: "I know you're still quite young and inexperienced, but how would you like to mentor Hazelpaw?"
Dovefoot: "You— you can count on me!"
Ashstar: "And I'll mentor Flamepaw myself."
Flamepaw: "Huh?"
Flamepaw: "Wait— ME?! Really?!"
Ashstar: "Sure! You remind me of myself when I was your age. It'll be fun."

Geranium molle, growing wild! Read more below about this fascinating herb. Learn more about our online courses on herbal medicine & aromatherapy in jointheflow.net Discover my books on bodywork and more: amzn.to/3xhaNey Its common name is Dovefoot Geranium, or Dove's-foot Crane's-bill. Nicholas Culpeper in his herbal of 1652 suggested a variety of uses for G. molle, including the treatment of internal and external injuries. A note was made that the bruised leaf healed external injuries faster. A decoction in wine was said to relieve gout and other joint pains. The plant is considered to be anodyne, astringent and vulnerary. In fact, you can use it as a tannin in herbal formulas, along with Quercus and Capsella. The bees LOVE the plant. It actually produces a kind of dark pollen. Geranium molle is a small plant reaching on average 5–30 centimetres (2.0–11.8 in) in height. It is a very branched plant, quite hairy, with several ascending stems. The leaves are palmate, cut 5 to 9 times. The basal leaves are arranged in a rosette, the upper ones are sessile, rounded and hairy, with a long petiole of about 5–12 millimetres (0.20–0.47 in). The flowers are pinkish-purple, 8–12 mm in diameter, with very jagged petals. It blooms from April to September. The flowers are hermaphrodite and mainly pollinated by Hymenoptera. Fruits are glabrous, usually with 6-9 transverse ridges. Sandpelt, warrior of Spruceclan
Son of Honeyfang and Dovefoot, littermate of Petalstorm and Stonekit, and half-brother to Mapleclaw and Cherrycloud
Compared to his sister, Sandpelt has a far more melancholy, sardonic view of their situation. His sister’s bullying does little to build up his confidence, though she occasionally feels the sting of his retorts just like everyone else in the clan. His only real friend is the tiny Crowpaw. Alone, they are oddities. Together, they are... still oddities, but their combined intelligence is deceptively dangerous.
Sandpelt’s defining characteristic is his narcolepsy. The medicine cats have yet to find any sort of ‘cure’ for it, much to everyone’s dismay. Petalstorm certainly isn’t alone in thinking it hinders his already unimpressive warrior skills.

ThunderClan Succession: The Complicated Reigns of Oakstar and Doestar (Shadow Rising AU)
Leader line: Oakstar- Larchface (Birchface)- Goldenspots (Frecklewish)
Deputy line: Beetletail (Beetail)- Briarwing (Sweetbriar)- Thrushfang (Thrushtalon)- Ryepelt (Seedpelt)
Most of the details surrounding the end of Oakstar’s reign have been lost to history, but described below is what is still known to the Clans. Following the death of Oakstar’s son and heir Larchface fighting RiverClan over Sunningrocks, Oakstar named a kit, Larchkit, his heir, believing the kit and his siblings to be Larchface’s children. Their mother was a warrior by the name of Mapleshade, and while her younger half brother was ThunderClan’s sole seer, she did not claim descent from any bloodlines. It is unknown where the idea that she was the mother of Larchface’s kits came from, but it rapidly spread throughout ThunderClan, and even to the other Clans. When Ravenwing, the Clan’s seer, revealed the truth of Larchkit, Toadkit (Petalkit), and Patchkit’s heritage, however, Oakstar threw Mapleshade and her children out of the Clan. Unfortunately, we do not know how Ravenwing learned the truth. Perhaps Mapleshade confided in him, her little brother? We do not know. All three kits drowned that same day when Mapleshade attempted to seek shelter in RiverClan with their real father. Seeking revenge, Mapleshade murdered Ravenwing, Goldenspots, and her RiverClan mate, before dying herself. Much about Mapleshade is lost to us, including her motive for lying about her kits’s heritage. It is one thing to hide the fact they are half Clan, but another entirely to say they are the deceased heir’s children. We may never know the full story.
Following the death of his only other relative and child, Goldenspots, Oakstar named his deputy Beetletail his heir and began to train him for the responsibility. While deputies do prepare for the scenario when they assume the Clan’s leadership, Oakstar went above and beyond to make sure his Clan would survive. It was during this period that, Beetletail’s nephew, Thrushfang, had a litter of his own- two daughters named Doekit and Deerkit. Soon after their apprenticeship, Oakstar took Beetletail’s sister Briarwing as his mate, and, to the surprise and joy of the entire Clan, had another litter with her, Volekit (who would eventually become Volefoot (Mumblefoot), and was deputy under Doestar until his death) and Spiderkit (who would become Spiderwhisker (Squirrelwhisker), and would be the subject of a great scandal).
A terrible leafbare followed this happy news, however, and brought sorrow with its snow. Deerpaw died first, followed by Ryepelt and Briarwing in quick succession. Oakstar died next, and Beetletail the day after, but that awful leafbare did not stop, and Thrushfang passed soon after. Finally, the deaths abated, and left three competing heirs in its wake. Doepaw was an apprentice well on her way to warriorhood, the only surviving descendant of Beetletail. Volekit and Spiderkit were barely four moons old, though they were Oakstar’s own children. The succession was determined by a single fact, however: Oakstar had named Beetletail his heir, and had never gone back and made Volekit his chosen heir. So, at the time of Oakstar’s death, Thrushfang was his heir, and with Thrushfang’s passing, the leadership passed to Doepaw. Doepaw was made a warrior that very day, and Doecloud became Doestar, and the Clan moved on.
Leader line: Doestar- Harewhisker (Harepounce)- Poppyheart (Poppydawn)- Speckletail- Rabbitshade (Rabbitleap)- Falconsong (Fallowsong)
Deputy line: Volefoot- Spiderwhisker- Dovefoot (Windflight)- Juniperfoot (Daisytoe)- Littleshine (Littlestep)
Doestar was the mother of two daughters, Harewhisker and Falconsong, and each molly had or were expecting children. Harewhisker had three young warriors in Poppyheart, Speckletail, and Rabbitshade, and Falconsong was in the nursery expecting a litter of her own. Doestar, however, announced one afternoon that neither child would succeed her. Rather, a dashing young tom by the name of Foxheart (Pineheart) would be her heir. For many years, the reasoning behind this decision was unknown, questioned and debated over, until towards the end of his life during the reign of Bluestar, an old and frail Goosefeather told his apprentice about his vision. Goosefeather has been plagued by messages from StarClan his entire life, and when he received a vision showing a flame-coloured tom leading the Clan, he told Doestar, who acted quickly and interpreted it as a sign that StarClan desired Foxheart to succeed her. Volefoot died soon after this decision, killed fighting a fox that was threatening the Clan, and Doestar made Foxheart deputy. Shortly after, Falconsong had three healthy sons in Sparrowkit, Birchkit, and Flykit. Another terrible leafbare, complete with starvation and sickness, befell ThunderClan, and Doestar, too, passed. Foxheart became Foxstar, and the whispers of prophecy murmured in his ears.

Petalstorm, warrior of Spruceclan
Daughter of Honeyfang and Dovefoot, littermate of Sandpelt and Stonekit, and half-sister to Mapleclaw and Cherrycloud
Spruceclan wasn’t happy about having Honeyfang in the clan, however briefly, with the poor reputation preceding her, not to mention picking a fight with one of their elders, Martenclaw. If she weren’t pregnant with a litter at the time, Spiderstar would’ve kicked her out on the spot. But even if they disliked the mother, they refused to leave young kits to fend without a clan with the bitter winter closing in. She gave birth to three kits; Stonekit, Sandkit, and Petalkit, refusing to name their father. Honeyfang was never a good mother, a fact their half-sister Mapleclaw could attest to. However, when the kits were weaned and the clan could finally be rid of Honeyfang, her kittens were still shocked and appalled to be left without any parents.
Less than a month later, news came back from a particularly hectic gathering that Honeyfang had been murdered while still on clan territory.
Few in Spruceclan seemed happy about keeping them, and the kits knew it. The winter blizzards claimed the life of Stonekit, leaving only the brother and sister. The situation did little for their development - bickering and snapping at each other, driving away the only other family they had. Or at least, that was the case for one of them. Petalkit was wild and rebellious, even so young, and once, when the blizzards ceased, she snuck out, happening across a cat who would shape the rest of her life. Mapleclaw. The exiled, reviled killer of Honeyfang.
Mapleclaw seemed to take pity on her half-sibling, spending hours with the lonely kit, playing with her, making her happier than she had been in forever. Eventually she had to go home, though Petalkit swore she would return again. Across the moons, she stole visits to her sister that make clan life easier to bear, up to her apprenticeship, her mentor being the temperamental Emberstorm.
Now, Petalpaw is as stubbornly and unapologetically headstrong as she’s ever been. Her relationship with her brother is worsening by the day, the clan never forgets her heritage, and her sister and mother’s deaths weigh more heavily on her than she would ever care to admit. Spending time with Mapleclaw is her main escape from her frustrating life in Spruceclan.
