Geranium molle, growing wild! Read more below about this fascinating herb. Learn more about our online courses on herbal medicine & aromatherapy in jointheflow.net Discover my books on bodywork and more: amzn.to/3xhaNey Its common name is Dovefoot Geranium, or Dove's-foot Crane's-bill. Nicholas Culpeper in his herbal of 1652 suggested a variety of uses for G. molle, including the treatment of internal and external injuries. A note was made that the bruised leaf healed external injuries faster. A decoction in wine was said to relieve gout and other joint pains. The plant is considered to be anodyne, astringent and vulnerary. In fact, you can use it as a tannin in herbal formulas, along with Quercus and Capsella.  The bees LOVE the plant. It actually produces a kind of dark pollen. Geranium molle is a small plant reaching on average 5–30 centimetres (2.0–11.8 in) in height. It is a very branched plant, quite hairy, with several ascending stems. The leaves are palmate, cut 5 to 9 times. The basal leaves are arranged in a rosette, the upper ones are sessile, rounded and hairy, with a long petiole of about 5–12 millimetres (0.20–0.47 in).  The flowers are pinkish-purple, 8–12 mm in diameter, with very jagged petals. It blooms from April to September. The flowers are hermaphrodite and mainly pollinated by Hymenoptera. Fruits are glabrous, usually with 6-9 transverse ridges. I Fckn love working with fungi! I find them fascinating, magical and potent AF. I started microdosing psilocybin a few winters ago (something our ancestors knew worked to get them through winter) and it completely stopped my intrusive thoughts. This year I'm focusing on releasing the trauma stored in my body from SA. It holds me back from so much as our s/xual energy is also our life force and creative energy and mine was just so confused. I thought, 'I bet there's a mushroom friend who can help me with that' (because there is one for just about anything mushrooms are amazing)...and here it is! I still have a journey ahead of me. I'm just starting out really, but I'm so impressed already. *this is just my experience please do your own research. I'm a witch not a doctor* I am not affiliated with or endorsed by this company but for the sake of your own research I got this tincture from @iwmushrooms . . . . . #witch #witch🔮 #solitarywitch #paganwitch #instawitch #greenwitch #hearthwitch #hedgewitch #paganpride #heathen #kitchenwitch #witchlife #witchcraft #modernwitch #witchaesthetic #norsepagan #celticpagan #priestess #witchschool #oldways #goth #sasurvivor #mentalhealthmatters #shamanicpractitioner #wildmedicine (at Totnes) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl52vW3r9PA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Day 1 of St. John’s Wort infusion... 🌼 Medicine making with St.John’s Wort is pure magic! 💫 These sunshine-yellow wildflowers will turn this organic olive oil scarlet red within a few days, and it will become even deeper, richer, and thicker after a few weeks. For the first few days of the infusion, I keep it outdoors (covered) in direct sunlight so that it can absorb the warmth and energy of the sun ☀️ before bringing the medicinal oil indoors to further infuse in a windowsill. I’ll post the end result soon (which is nothing short of amazing), so stay tuned! #stjohnswort #hypericumperforatum #wildmedicine #stjohnswortflowers #herbalism #herbalmedicine #stjohnswortoil #herbaloil #herbaloilmaking #diyherbalmedicine #diynatural #diynaturalproducts #naturalmedicine #naturalmedicinemaking #diynaturalmedicine #stjoanswort #stjohnswortmedicine #herbalmedicinemaking #herbharvest #stjohnswortharvest #wildharvest #wildgathering #wildharvested #wildharvesting #wildflowers #wildplants #fawnlilybotanica https://www.instagram.com/p/CSxCtEDpq24/?utm_medium=tumblr

Do you just LOVE (or even like) cooking or making medicine with Evening Primrose? Please share your ways! I tried eating these roots last year once and wasn’t impressed, but I want to give them another chance with your recommendations. Native to the forests of eastern and central North America, various indigenous tribes used (and sometimes still use, I imagine) this evening-flowering biennial for food, strengthening, and healing. As is the case with many indigenous American species, like the dahlia, this species was brought to Europe as a garden beauty and a novelty - and then its food uses were much later “discovered”. That said, I rarely hear of people still using it, but it is mentioned in Wolf D. Storl’s “A Curious History of Vegetables” as one of his favorite vegetables. It very present in our fields, and I’d love to make use of it rather than sending it to the compost bin when it’s in the way of our crop plans. Also, it is part of a flower clock that @mill.hollow is making since it blooms at a certain time of the day. All parts are apparently edible. Please share your love for this plant in present tense! #eveningprimrose #wildfoods #wildmedicine (at Newtown Square, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-xE_24gsr2/?igshid=1hv9gfh09gpy2

Helpful grafitti in Gawler. There'll be more! I'm copying an idea that I saw online a while back and labelling edible and medicinal plants popping out of sidewalks and buildings. They're done in chalk, so can wash away or rub off easily. #foraging #findyourfood #eattheweeds #wildfoods #wildmedicine https://www.instagram.com/p/CCkm2vzAfCF/?igshid=1kyhpg3fjgewl

Round lobed hepatica (Anemone americana), a memeber of the buttercup family. Its leaves are liver colored in winter, which can remind you that it is a liver herb in appalachian medicine. Like other members of the buttercup family, it contains alkaloids that are very bitter and provocative to the liver (and presumably poisonous in large doses). It’s a powerful laxative that causes movement of a lot of green bile. This is seldom what i am going for in my clinical practice, so i don’t use it much at all. But that sort of drastic remedy used to be more in fashion than it is now. The little round leaves around it are partridgeberry (Mitchella repens), which is a gentle tonic for the endocrine system, especially in women. I use it pretty often. It is a woodland perrenial that is not cultivated, so it should only be gathered by people who are familiar with and can carefully monitor the population of the stand it is growing in. . . . . #leaves #plantmedicine #wildmedicine #earthmedicine #naturalremedy #herbalism #appalachia https://www.instagram.com/p/Btg6-y9Bqu8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=19een3lrlxkvo

Saltwort (called "almyra" in Greek) growing wild on the beach. Read more below about the fascinating history of that plant! Learn more about our online courses on herbal medicine & aromatherapy in jointheflow.net Discover my books on bodywork and more: amzn.to/3xhaNey Young leaves and stems can be eaten raw or cooked. The leaves can be used as a spinach substitute or added in small quantities to salads. The seed is edible too. It can be ground into a meal and used as a gruel, thickener in soups etc., or added to cereal flours when making bread. However, the seed is small and hard to collect any quantity. The ashes of the burnt plant are used for making glass and soap. At one time large quantities of the ashes were imported into Britain for this purpose, but nowadays a chemical process using salt is employed. The ashes can also be used as a cleaner for fabrics.  #salsola #saltwort #glasswort #greekbeaches #wildmedicine #wildgourmet #greekflora #greekherbs #herbnerd #wildherbs #botany #botanicalmedicine #medicinalherbs #myherbalstudies #healingherbs #foraging #herbalistsofinstagram #herbalremedies #primitiveskills #survivalskills #urbanherbalist #herbalremedies #apothecary #ethnobotany #ethnobotanist Text credit: Wikipedia & pfaf. A little witchy care package for someone getting over covid. Homemade elderberry syrup, a tea blend. Fresh plantain from my garden (to go in the tea, I didn't have any dried) and a 'germ be gone 'cense stick. Today I'm gonna make a big batch of magic soup and freeze a bunch. There's so much going round at the moment and October is always crazy busy so I'm going to do whatever I can to keep my strength up. . . . . #witch #witch🔮 #solitarywitch #paganwitch #instawitch #greenwitch #hearthwitch #hedgewitch #paganpride #heathen #kitchenwitch #witchlife #witchcraft #modernwitch #witchaesthetic #norsepagan #celticpagan #priestess #witchschool #oldways #goth #wildmedicine #herbalmedicine #wildwoman #womensupportingwomen (at Totnes) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjXcBPULWMy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

St John’s Wort harvest time!!! 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼 I look forward to gathering this botanical every year... There’s something magical about how it transforms ordinary oil or alcohol into a deep, ruby-red herbal medicine that surprises me no matter how many times I’ve seen it 🥰! It’s just the coolest thing! If you’re interested in learning about harvesting and preparing St. John’s Wort, let me know by dropping a comment or send a DM. I’m thinking about writing a blog post and would love to know if there’s interest! ☀️💛✨ #stjohnswort #hypericumperforatum #wildmedicine #stjohnswortflowers #herbalism #herbalmedicine #herbalmedicinemaking #herbharvest #stjohnswortharvest #wildharvest #wildgathering #wildharvested #wildharvesting #wildflowers #wildplants #fawnlilybotanica (at Eugene, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQuD8O8HTw1/?utm_medium=tumblr
