#DailyDevotion A Few More People Could Stand To Be Doubting Thomases

#DailyDevotion A Few More People Could Stand To Be Doubting Thomases Joh 20:24-31 24But Thomas, one of the twelve, who was called Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25So the other disciplės told him, “We saw the Lord.” "Unless I see the marks of the nails in His hands," he told them, “and put my finger in the marks of the nails and put my hand in His side, I won't believe it."26A week later His disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were locked, but Jesus came and stood among them. “Peace to you!" He said. 27Then He told Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at My hands — and take your hand and put it in My side. And don't doubt but believe."28“My Lord and my God!" Thomas answered Him. 29“Do you believe because you've seen Me?” Jesus asked him. "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”30His disciples saw Jesus do many other miracles that are not written in this book. 31But these things are written so that you believe Jesus is the Christ, God's Son, and by believing have life in His name. So Thomas often gets a bad rap. We often call him Doubting Thomas. But the other disciples were nothing but doubters too. They didn’t believe the women. They didn’t believe the disciples from Emmaus. But he gets a bad rap because John’s gospel put a focus on it. Perhaps we should ask the question why. The great thing about Thomas’ response is it is the response we should be thinking of if anyone comes and says they are the Christ. There are and have been many people who have come and are around today who say they are the Christ. Our response to them should be Thomas’ response to his fellow disciples, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” No marks, no holes, you’re not my Jesus, the Christ, bud. The Scriptures say, Rev 1:7 “Look, He is coming in the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even the men who pierced Him, and all the people on earth will mourn over Him.” Jesus deigns to show Thomas his scars and Thomas recognizes Jesus. “Shalom! Peace to you!” So says our Lord Jesus to His disciples again. “Ok Thomas, here’s your chance. Put your finger here and put your hand and my side. See it’s me!” Thomas recognizes that it is Jesus and that He is really raised from the dead. “My Lord and my God!” is Thomas’ reply. Note the Lord does not correct Thomas. He is Lord and he is God. Thomas gets that right. While Thomas, and the disciples as well, are admonished by Jesus for not believing the reports, He gives us this blessing, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” All we have is an empty tomb and the witness of the Apostles and five hundred other witnesses that Jesus rose from the dead. We have the Gospels which report all that Jesus has done. John says these were written so that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and by believing you would have life in His name. John’s Gospel and by extension, the other Gospels and indeed even all of Scripture is written so that you may believe Jesus is the Christ and by believing possess eternal life. Unlike the apostles at that time, we have the Holy Spirit poured out on all flesh. By the power of the Holy Spirit through this word, God gives us the gift of faith, life and salvation. They all are witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection. Believe that you too may have life eternal with Jesus. O Merciful Holy Spirit, always give us your word, that we might hear and believe the good news of Jesus Christ, believe on Him and receive the gift of eternal life. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Prayer to St. Thomas the Apostle
St. Thomas, you doubted, yet in His mercy, Christ revealed His wounds to you, strengthening your faith. Pray for us in our moments of unbelief, that we may trust in His presence even when we cannot see. Help us to surrender our doubts and proclaim with you, "My Lord and my God!" Lead us ever closer to Jesus, that our faith may be firm and our hearts set on His eternal truth. Amen.
The feast day of St. Thomas the Apostle is celebrated on July 3rd in the Roman Catholic Church.

Today we celebrate the Holy and Glorious Apostle Thomas. Saint Thomas was one of the twelve apostles of Christ who is well known for his initial doubting of the Resurrection. Once he saw the Resurrected Lord with his own eyes, he exclaimed, "my Lord and my God!" This scene is often erroneously referred to as "the Doubting of Thomas". In the Greek, the inscription on the iconography reads "the Touching of Thomas" and the Slavonic, "the Belief of Thomas". After the ascension of the Lord, the Apostle Thomas went all throughout the lands, being the most daring and travelling to many remote places such as Ethiopia and India, where in the latter country he was crowned with martyrdom. Having been speared five times, his soul departed to the Lord. May he intercede for us always + #saint #thomas #apostle #apostlethomas #saintthomas #preach #preacher #doubtingthomas #believe #believe #mylordmygod #lord #saviour #jesus #christ #jesuschrist #ethiopia #ethiopianorthodox #india #indianorthodox #indian #ethiopian #martyr #martyrdom #orthodox #saintoftheday (at Chennai, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjV8ONJLLBM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hermeticism, also called Hermetism, according to most of the dictionary definitions is a philosophical and magical system, or it is a religion or both. Hermeticism, if we consider it an esoteric, magical system, it cannot be a religion. Esotericism is science, and it is built upon rationalisation, knowledge, a high understanding (spiritual) of the universe and ourselves, while religions are based on beliefs (and superstitions). While religions, supposedly, offer answers and consolation, esoteicism raise questions. The Magician is a Doubting Thomas. Enlightenment is a never-ending process. The light at the end of the tunnel is constantly departing, while at each step, new questions appear. #tarot #esoteric #occult #Hermes #hermetic #hermeticism #hermetism #themagician #doubtingthomas #religion https://www.instagram.com/p/CHKTlTGHBEr/?igshid=1omz3ecsvnygl

This is the original concept art for #AdorationShortFilm by @dp.illustrations, created before we ever rolled camera. It's something that doesn't physically happen in the film, but metaphorically it does. Here Leor shows Sister Vivian his vampire bite wound which transfixes her with both horror and curiosity. It was inspired by the painting "The Incredulity of Saint Thomas" by Caravaggio, in which Thomas touches the wounds of Christ in order to believe it's Him. Stay tuned because the film is FINALLY coming at you very soon thanks to long hours pulled by our editor. As always, thank you for your support! . . . #ShortFilm #ComingSoon #WomenInFilm #conceptart #filmmaking #art #creativeliving #Caravaggio #DoubtingThomas #SupportIndieFilm #indiefilm #vampirelore https://www.instagram.com/p/CCMscbPpPpt/?igshid=1s8d62ljy9fg5

‘The Incredulity of St. Thomas towards Modern Art’ Piece made in Ravenna, Italy for @Subsidenze Art direction & pic @bonobolabo A tribute to Alberto Burri’s “Grande Ferro R”, a site-specific steel sculpture made in 1990 for the city. Closely located to Burri’s work, the mural consists in an adaptation of the “doubting Thomas” theme, a criticism towards the current bad state of preservation and development of the Grande Ferro and therefore criticism on how it is perceived by the local administrations, as well as among common citizens. When it comes to modern and contemporary art in general, where the horizons of the “immediately recognizable” of figurative and still nature heavily blur, making space to conceptuality and abstraction, the aim is to arise questions regarding the definition and perception of a piece of art as such (through people’s eyes), the loss of importance of a creative act in collectivity through nullifying behaviours, which then leads to questions about weighing the responsibilities of institutions, users, viewers and citizens towards (public) art. #burri #subsidenze #ravenna #grandeferror #muralism #doubtingthomas #stthomas (presso Ravenna, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxVZRnUBiwt/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=17mr7rujqi552

The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you’ he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Doubt no longer but believe.’ Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him: ‘You believe because you can see me. Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.’ There were many other signs that Jesus worked and the disciples saw, but they are not recorded in this book. These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing this you may have life through his name.
