Gotham is a piece of Faerun that got warped to Earth decades if not centuries ago. While it's not connected to Faerun as much as it used to be, anyone there is more 'forced human' than 'actual human', at least in a general sense. If anyone happens to find themselves in Faerun though, their truer form or forms unlock, which can certainly be surprising for most. But as long as they're on earth, they seem almost entirely human, although it's best not to stare at a gothamite for too long, especially a stressed child (as those have the easiest time accidentally showing their truths).

Of course, Gotham wasn't the first planar warp, and wouldn't be the last. After all, the LoA were tied intrinsically to this as well, once a long proud line of demons, reduced to immortal humanity. No wonder Ras sought Bruce as a son-in-law, both his skills and his ties to the Before.

Alfred has technically been around since the planar warp, he just happened to decide to explore this 'new' world a few times, and see what it had to offer. Perhaps the closest equivalent to what he would be might be along the lines of an 'arch changeling' (essentially just an arch fey though).

What Thomas and Martha were, no one is really certain of, but after what happened with their first son, they tried for another. Unbeknownst to them, it died shortly after, and Alfred replaced the dead child with one of his own in an attempt to make his partners happy.

Bruce is a changeling. His parents suspected something was different, but didn't care to dig, they were just happy to have him. But when they died, his form glitched out, a partial change, the poor traumatized child being found by Gordon who was quick to wrap him up and out of sight until he calmed. Eventually, Leslie found out as well, but Bruce didn't find out for years.

Slade is a vampire. Not of the DC variety persay, but similar, just dampened by the lack of access to the Before. Due to this, his actions towards Dick caused the boy to be a hidden Dhampir, although his family already had a long line of dampened elven blood.

Jason is a Duegar, sturdy and good at tinkering, but quite used to darkness, although he may even have a little surface dwarf in him. It's not certain, but perhaps this is the true origin of that white streak he has.

Cass is a drow, showcased in her elegant movements and affinity for the darkness.

Tim is a probably a gnome, well known for their inventiveness.

Steph is a kenku, although that can change.

Duke is undecided.

Damien is technically a tiefling, altho the human in him is merely a mimcry due to the nature of his father.

The exact reason is unknown, but Bruce and his children get scattered around Faerun during the events of BG3, Bruce taking the place as Tav. Due to the isekai plus tadpole alongside the fact that everyone got de-aged roughly a decade (time in the two realms runs differently), he has minor amnesia. As a funny not-funny, the Guardian takes the appearance of Joker, and Bruce is not happy. He's not entirely sure why he hates the figure but he knows he will annoy him as much as possible. He starts as a rogue, adds monk, focuses on monk, and then happens to notice he's apparently a warlock out of the blue? (more on that later) Idea is to have him Monk 5 Rogue 4 Warlock 3 (before any extra levels from mods).

Bruce 31, Dick 13, Jason 9, Cass 9, Steph 8, Tim 7, Duke 5, Damien 1

Jason and Cass are found in the underdark, and, even afterwards, keep (sorta jokingly) playing the twin card. Cass keeps calling Jason 'little brother' and he keeps telling her, and others, that he's older (saying how many weeks or months apart as minutes instead).

Dick and Damien are found at Last Light's Inn, having been kinda taken in by Jaheira. Dick still doesn't realize he's a Dhampir, just that he's been eating a lot more red meat. Meanwhile, Damien is far from happy in such a 'tiny, useless body' and gets into a habit of biting people (if he could speak fully, he would insist he's not teething, he's just defending himself!).

Not sure about the others.

Alfred, meanwhile, has been in a form much closer to his proper fey form recently. He spend a few Earth weeks letting the kids get up to whatever, then popped over and forced a warlock bond. Because of family among other things, it wasn't that hard to do without Bruce's explicit permission, and this way he can keep a better eye on his son. He's rather friendly with Withers, who likes to say that the After has made him soft. At the endgame party though, he shows up, and promptly drops into a more human looking form, although he feels comfortable enough around his family to keep a few otherworldly features.

Human Alfred is slightly overweight and about 5'9; He has some wrinkles and hair that's peppered with grey; His eyes are a dark hazel; He looks like a standard human elder.

Mildly fey Alfred is a bit skinnier than would be healthy for a human and is roughly 6'5; He has a face of a man several decades younger and his hair has no grey; His eyes are an almost-glowing yellow; With double pointed ears and sharp nails, he looks even less human.

Changeling Bruce (mod) sticking as close to the appearance he knows, with some absurd proficiencies, still not sure how I ended up with such wild profs but it fits him. Starting as a rogue, with noble background of course.

Joker Guardian, Brucie will not be trusting him very much if at all.

He's the Hero sent to save the world, the representative of light and justice. He's a complete cinnamon roll, a golden retriever of a human being. He's still crying over a girl he knew for two minutes dying in his arms (to the point he hasn't noticed she's probably not dead), and he just genuinely believes that everyone could get along if they could just sit down and talk. Also, he had a kill count in the double digits before he got isekai'ed, he was raised in a strip club, and he's polyamorous by default because he doesn't see a reason to force anyone to be monogamous for him.

She's the Demon Queen sent to conquer the world, the representative of darkness and control. She's cold, she's cynical, she recruits bandits who tried to murder her, she conquers a city two minutes after walking through the gates, she's never trusted anyone in her entire life. She also conquers a city purely to make sure no one ruins its poetry scene, she helps invent democracy because being an unquestioned autocrat is a lot of effort, and uses siege magic to control the local weather purely so keep the view outside her window optimal. Approximately 50% spider monster.

Also, the Goddesses who chose them both are shipping them hard.

…does anyone even remember that game? lol. Anyway, She can’t remember her past except that she’s pretty sure she’s from our version of Earth. Her name, age, and who she was before remains a mystery, even to herself. Also, she definitely looked like a normal human before she came to Castleton, but due to ✨unexplained magical phenomena✨ her body transformed to fit the art style. And she lost her voice. For Reasons. She can still communicate though, just not using… traditional means.

Through the power of believing in herself (yes. Seriously.) she can turn her thoughts into physical thought bubbles for others to interpret. She thinks in full sentences, but the ✨ unexplained magical phenomena ✨ turns it into emojis and pictographs automatically.

“Yuu” is in quotes cuz it’s more of a nickname than a real name. People would say ‘hey, you!’ to address her and it just kinda. Stuck.

Uhhh it takes a minute for people to understand the emojis, and even then there’s still a lot of guesswork and charades. As a student of Yen Sid she ran around fighting ghosts and solving other people’s problems so honestly? Not too different from Crowley’s bs. Except that Yen Sid was nicer. And she didn’t have to be an unlicensed therapist. Or do homework.

My story for her in my head takes place like a year after the main game in DMW 2 is complete. But like. An au where all the dimensions from both games are available at once. Also I KNOW the Disney Magical World characters don’t have the round little stub hands, but I like them more cuz they’re cute :3

no idea what's causing this but I'm having insane vivid visceral dreams every night. Today I had a contender for top three where I was watching American psycho but the story changed. Instead it was about women getting rid of bad men in executive positions (there was backstory about shifting gender demographics due to climate change) that ultimately lead to Patrick - along with some other, older bad execs from different companies - getting kidnapped and forcibly age regressed through hypnotism over and over again. Sometimes they would permit them normalcy just so they could learn the truth again.

It was always agonizing for them to learn. It was so precious to see a grown man, 30 to 50 something, try to assert himself before forcibly put back into their cute 7yo mindset. CEO to my helpful little buddy tf

The only dream that clears it for sure is the one where I was the stalking fluid dream monster chasing humans, waiting for them to think they were safe when i was in the very next room, running on all fours after them as they screamed and begged for mercy I didn't have

Concept: a high fantasy wizard who isekais into our world without any tools or weapons. They scour our tomes (books) and use our, clearly magic; devices (computer) to search the web for arcane instruments. That's when they find it a magical device that might be able to take them back to their realm, they excitedly show the individual next to them what they're looking at on their screen; yet when they try everyone in the library averts their gaze. This must mean something; surely the wizard has found a truly powerful artifact. None will speak of it, they try to hush the wizard whenever they speak it's name. They've been told there's a shop that few would dare travel to, it's far out on the highway and tends to stay open late; however you'll be denied entry without proper identification. This all but confirms it, the wizard has found an item that few dare look at, speak of; or even venture to obtain. Such an item of high regard is sold for a high price, and only in a specific location that one must obtain a special permit to enter. The wizard manages to catch a ride with an individual who thinks this all just an elaborate and fun joke; after all, no one would dress like this and put on such a display seriously. When they arrive the wizard is granted clearance to the shop, the shopkeep doesn't seem to concerned since the wizard seems to look plenty old enough to enter. That is where they find it; the Hitachi Wand.

i've thought about it and the thing that annoys me the most about the cliche plot of the villainess isekai is that she ends up with male lead every fucking time.

she comes in different from the person she's possessing and not interested in him and now suddenly he's in love with her. gods do that annoy me. can't they be relieved instead of intrigued ? suspicious then relieved when she's genuine ? become actual good platonic friends ??? anything but a romance please !!

See... This is where it comes a smol difference.

The NRC gang still goes through similar incidents. The difference from their og counterparts is the way they ADRESS the issue.

Like Riddle would know his mother was abusive. He would gravitate towards his father more, he would try to put boundaries and distance himself.

Leona would be fueled to prove that he was great even if he was the 2nd born.

Azul would try to prove his worth against his bullies by being genuinely kind to others.

Kalim is more aware and actually makes a big effort to try and be independent. At first, this is frowned upon, but he wants for Jamil to be treated like a proper friend and not just a mere servant. So Jamil would come to appreciate Kalim for trying.

Vil would be also more laid back. He would appreciate more his villain roles and as such, he even starred in some movies that were exclusively about the villains in question. He still has sometimes moments of tough love, but more often than not, he's gentle and very caring.

In here the war ended up with peace, so Malenoir was alive and kicking. Hence now Malleus was a bit more bratty, but Lilia was there to humble him down. The knight of dawn, unfortunately, had to serve the sentence for his 'betrayal' and as such Silver still ends up raised by Lilia.

Reverse Isekai Rants: Nights on Earth

A/N: I'm not dead, I swear, I've just been flopping around like a dropped Croissant.

No Man's Land/Gunsmoke is a planet with Two Suns and Five moons.

The nights there are still well lit, despite the lack of light. Moonlight bathes across the sands, sparkling red and green auroras across the sands as worms move just underneath.

It's these things, you think, that might be one thing that makes some members of the Trigun House miss about their home planet, their home dimension.

The Saverem Twins, from nearly all iterations, don't mind gazing into the void of space from the roof or the grassy yard, seeing the multitude of stars that are differently arranged from their own planet. They enjoy stargazing, and find it a way to have heart to heart talks, with only the vast number of stars and systems bearing witness. Not that the universe cares.

They don't mind because they were born in space. For the Vashes, they get to think about Rem, and the happy times they had. For the Knives, they get to be reminded when things weren't so complicated, when things were happier. It makes you want to find an anti gravity chamber. Maybe the Saverem Twins would truly relax, being back in the weightlessness of space.

For the Wolfwoods, Livio, Razlo, and Legato, they've never been without the spare moons in the sky. They fear the nights of the new moon, or overcast nights where the clouds make the world as black as the back of a dead man's eyelids... Not that they'd ever admit to it. Hell, you figure that's why Meryl stays in Seattle. All of the lights illuminating the town probably comforts her.

There's an old saying. "When you gaze into that abyss, it gazes back, and it tells you what you are made of." It must be that, and the instinctual fear of what hides in the darkness that does scare them.

You subtly introduced ambient lighting to them. String lights, electronic fire places, night lights, moon lamps, and more. Every bedroom in the Trigun house has them, even the Saverem Twins.

Now that I'm done with the main story I'd like to take some time to explain a small part about why Pokemon Scarlet (and Violet) mean so much to me—and why they were the first games in the series to make me cry in several years. (warning for discussions of parental death under the cut)

Generation 9 was the first time I was playing a brand new generation after my mom had passed from cancer a year and a half prior. I wasn't expecting to have this fact be relevant to my experience with the game, but one of the first things that struck me not long after booting it up was the design of the player character's mom. She looked so much like my own mother that I genuinely had to take a step back from shock for a bit. But it was surely just a coincidence, right?

That initial double take moment aside, I continued through the game fairly normally, enjoying it quite a bit despite its fairly obvious graphical limitations and occasional glitching. I loved exploring the wide open world of Paldea; I'm very meticulous about being thorough in games and seeing what every area has to offer, and while I wasn't quite able to get to everything considering the sheer size of the map, I still did my damndest to clear out as much of it as I could. I loved the colorful cast of characters and the stories that accompanied them; Nemona was a bundle of joy (and I quickly claimed her as my lovely autistic daughter because that's what she is), Penny and the Team Star storyline were well thought-out and compelling, and Arven's quest, despite me being spoiled on a few details, was heart-rending and I was invested the whole way through.

Speaking of spoilers: I knew going into the game that Arven's mom/dad was canonically dead depending on which version you were playing. But that didn't stop the emotional impact of the final confrontation with the professor from hitting me the way it did.

As I said, my mother passed away due to complications from breast cancer; she spent an agonizingly long week in the hospital dealing with sepsis (among other things) before her condition took a turn for the worse and she was taken off life support on June 9th, 2021. During that time, I never got the opportunity to talk to her or even visit her—I asked over and over, but she was only allowed a limited number of visitors which were being taken up by other family members. My last in-person conversation with her was while helping her to bed one night, in which she told me she would have my dad take her to urgent care the next morning. At the time, I didn't even consider the possibility that she might not end up coming home. When that fact finally hit me a few days later, I wrote a letter making some promises to her (that I wasn't able to keep because the grief ended up hitting me like a truck) and telling her I loved her, but it was too little too late: my mom was on life support and only semi-conscious; my letter was read to her by my sister when she went to visit and I will never know if she actually heard my words. The day I was finally able to see her was the day she passed, where I held her hand for one final time and was met with.....silence. Obviously. But just because something is to be expected doesn't mean it won't hurt.

Long story short, I was not only dealing with the grief of losing her, but also the pain of not having proper closure; of being able to talk with her knowing for sure it would be the last time. So imagine my reaction when I realized that Arven was going through the exact same thing with his own mother—having been left behind without so much as an explanation, and then said mother dies before she ever has the chance to set things right with him. And his situation is compounded even further by having to contend with seeing the AI professor looking and speaking exactly like her, finally getting the acknowledgement from his mother he's wanted for so long relayed by the AI but finding himself struggling to accept it given how much it's too little too late, and then she leaves him behind too (albeit for more understandable reasons), meaning he essentially loses his mom twice over—all this while pushing through the trauma of revisiting a place that wounded the only companion he had so badly that he thought he might end up losing him, too. My relationship with my mother was not nearly as tumultuous as Arven's—but I could still relate to those feelings of loss and powerlessness and thus found myself shedding tears after the AI professor's final farewell. Because I saw myself in that grieving kid who just wanted closure.

Scarlet and Violet are by no means perfect games. But I would be lying if I said they didn't have a profound impact on me and helped me feel a bit less alone in my grief. And for that they'll always hold a special place in my heart.

Well, for one, I ACTUALLY WROTE SOME NARRATIVE PROSE! First time in, like, 10 months!

All thanks to getting back into reading, via Comikey and Webtoon.

I take up a LOOOOOT of time recapping the MULTITUDE of isekai manhwas I started reading in March.

I recap 5 different Webtoon Originals, 1 Webtoon Canvas, and 1 manga I'm reading on Comikey.

It's a LOT, but I hope it gets you as excited as I am about these stories. (Does include spoilers for the start of each of the recapped stories)

Finally, I of course talk about the actual writing I've been working on. I'm super excited to keep going and maybe actually have a nice handful of new stories for you fine folks throughout this year! 😁
