Dude, I think they are Lebanese.
(Ik the crown looks wonky. My hands are too sore to fix it.)

Every June, I exclusively make and post new Dorzma art, mainly to spread awareness of what I consider to be one of the oldest LGBT pairings in fandom circles (and one that many should remember in this day and age). This one is Ozma and Dorothy doing a tango of sorts with an LGBT heart as the background.
It was based on this pose provided by @adorkastock

I initially planned to do the whole body... but I find the legs to be too excessive to the whole picture, especially when the hands are in a very unique and difficult pose to draw. I decided to cut the legs and focus on the hands, which was tricky since they are clasping in a manner that is very complex in design, yet also beautiful in overall simplicity. I like how they turned out.
You might also notice that Ozma doesn't have her tall crown in this picture. Well, that's because I wanted Ozma to eventually be animatable, and thus I need to experiment to see if Ozma's design would work without a crown (she still keeps the headdress with flowers). It looks nice overall in my opinion.
I still plan to make more of Dorzma in the future. This is me getting back into the grove.

I think Wicked's version of the tin man would be horrified by how Nick Chopper became the tin woodsman
I mean, Nick was cursed to lopp off his on limbs, and he kept replacing his body parts with metal until he was completely metal
A comic I made to distract myself after spending weeks on a super complicated project. I really enjoyed mixing the elements of Baum, Maguire and Chu.

Bit of a Dorzma commission for a friend! I’ve actually been meaning to get into more of the Oz media and lore for some time, so perhaps these girls will finally be the ones to push me over the edge  💚

With Owl House returning this week, I thought it would be the right time to make an Owl House x Land of Oz crossover artwork:
Specifically, Luz and Amity doing this iconic kissing scene from an official artwork of the Oz book series, the one that made Dorothy x Ozma (Dorzma) into a legendary ship for the ages.
Tumblr media
But as someone who didn't see much of the show at the time, I didn't really care much about the Lumity ship (since I have no details of how their relationship was built) until I took a second look at the Owl House and realized... it reminded me of the Land of Oz. The weird world of the Boiling Isles, the presence of witches, a small black dog sidekick, regular human girl goes to a fantasy world, etc. Yeah, I got a lot of Oz vibes.

It was also around that time that I seriously looked into an idea that was floating in my head for an animation project: An Oz story where Dorothy Gale and Tip fell in love, Tip transforms into Princess Ozma and worries about being rejected by Dorothy, but Dorothy accepts Ozma as she is, saying that she loves Tip/Ozma no matter what form or gender they take.
Looking at my designs for Tip/Ozma and Dorothy, it became clear I was getting more and more influenced by Owl House over every other art style. It became the main inspiration for my Oz works if it wasn't already.
It wasn't difficult figuring out who would play Dorothy and who would play Ozma. Although Luz fits the Dorothy role narrative wise, her design and tomboyish character makes Tip, and thus Ozma, a natural choice for her to cosplay. Amity happens to have a similar short haircut like Dorothy in books after The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the best Dorothys are always polar opposites to their Ozmas.
I initially drew Amity with her first haircut as it was the model I referenced. But just to cover my bases, I also made an alternate artwork where she has her current haircut and dye.

Dorothy Gale and Tippetarius (Tip for short) climbing up a tree, having a grand adventure, no matter how small, in the Land of Oz. I felt that I've been making too much of Dorothy and Ozma being a lovely couple in my previous artworks of these two, so I wanted to show a different side to their relationship, one that would showcase more of their distinguished personalities and their adventurous side. Namely, Ozma as Tip. As you can see, Tip is an adventurous lad, hanging from a branch upside down while looking into Dorothy's eyes as if he wants to impress her with his brave but foolish stunt. Dorothy is more safely tucked higher up in the tree, but she doesn't seem worried about Tip falling. Two peas in a pod, I'd say.
This was based on a pose from AdorkaStock, showcasing two friends hanging from a tree.
I must say, it was a challenging artwork. The first challenge was painting a tree that would feel solid enough to be seen in backgrounds of animated shows. I managed to accomplish that on Procreate with an oil brush (plus a few other rough brushes for polishing) and various shades of green, brown, black and white colors to create a very layered trunk. The next challenge was making the characters feel like they were interacting with the tree and not just be stickers on a sheet (since the pose reference shows the subjects weaving in and out of the branches). That was accomplished by masking, which took a few tries to make it feel seamless.
The final challenge was Dorothy's pose, because I realized translating that pose from the photo to artwork was not working out thanks to the leg in the picture. The foot in the photo was very tiny while the thigh was humongous. I have no doubt this the result of a camera trick and the flattening of depth that makes it appear that way, but doing it for an animated-inspired artwork, which requires exaggeration to feel lively, was making it stand out more jarring. After several attempt, I decided to cover up Dorothy's lower body with leaves. Leave that to the imagination.
