I think it would've been more startling if the Doris-verse in Meet the Robinsons had been sterile and cold instead of a gross wasteland. Stark black buildings with harsh neon reds with lines of clinical, mechanical workers without any ounce of creativity would have been just as startling a contrast to the whimsical Robinson future

I really think it's funny when people try to use 'it's popular actually' as a defense against people saying the writing in RWBY is bad. Like "people say that RWBY is bad, but it's actually really popular, it even sells outside of the states!"
Assuming that RWBY is popular outside of the USA (which I'm not sure of,) and assuming that RWBY is even that popular in the USA (which I'm really not sure of,) it does not mean anything.
Do you know what was popular?
Twilight
The Hobbit Movies
BBC's Sherlock
The third Thor movie
Harry Potter
Why are we pretending that popularity equals quality, again? Like, the live action lion king made tons of money in the box office, but that doesn't make it any less valid to complain about the lack of emotion on those CGI lion faces. The Minions are wildly popular and I still wish I could go back in time and stop them from existing like I'm Lewis from Meet the Robinsons and they're Doris the helping hat. Most Sonic the Hedgehog games are at least relatively successful, but I'll still complain about the writing choices in Sonic Forces.
Saying "People say RWBY is bad but it's actually popular" is like saying "People say McDonalds food isn't that good but there are a lot of McDonalds restaurants." Saying "people say RWBY is bad but it's actually popular" is like saying "people say gaming consoles aren't made to last anymore, but lots of people buy gaming consoles." Whether or not something is popular is entirely irrelevant to the quality of the thing. And RWBY isn't like, half as popular as some people like to imagine. People are out here acting like it's Star Trek, or the MCU, or My Little Pony. It's hardly a sweeping phenomenon, or something that's going to change a genre, or something that the average person on the street will have likely at least heard about. I've never met a single person who hasn't heard about Lord of the Rings, but yet I've only met like two non-relatives who have ever even heard of RWBY. But again, even if RWBY was super big and popular and people everywhere knew it...

T. rex Madness Round 3: Meet the Robinsons (Tiny) vs. The Land Before Time (Chomper)
Tumblr media
Meet the Robinsons (Tiny) – “I have a big head and little arms!” So says Tiny, in probably the most memorable line from Meet the Robinsons. Tiny is dragged into Bowler Hat Guy’s convoluted scheme, to the objections of his sentient hat, Doris, but is quickly set free by the Robinson family. Fortunately, Tiny is pretty friendly on his own and sticks around as a new family pet.
Tumblr media
The Land Before Time (Chomper) – Chomper is generally considered to be the sixth member of the main group in the Land Before Time series. In the second film, the gang mistakenly rescue his egg from Ozzy and Strut, a pair of egg-stealing Struthiomimus. When he hatches, Littlefoot and the others treat him as one of their own and introduce him to a diet of insects, rather than other dinosaurs. After saving his friends from Ozzy and Strut, Chomper leaves with his parents, but this would not be the final goodbye. Chomper proved popular with audiences and returned for two later movies, as well as the Land Before Time TV series.

I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about how in Meet the Robinsons, Carl the robot tells Wilbur that 'there's 99.999999% chance that you won't exist' if he fails in his endeavours. Now in the context of the movie this is taken to mean that Wilbur will have never been born, that kind of never existing. But obviously everything goes well, Lewis goes back to the science fair and fixes his memory scanner after declaring to DORIS that he's never going to invent her, thus erasing the possibility of her ever existing. But here's the thing, The grown up Lewis we meet before Wilbur takes our Lewis back to see his mom, is not the same Lewis we have at the end of the movie. And because of this, our Wilbur still might never exist. Stick with me here.
We might think it is due to the scene at the beginning, where baby Lewis is left on the doorstep of the orphanage, someone knocks on the door, and Mildred picks him up. The shots are repeated to imply that Lewis has always been the one to knock on the door from the beginning, and maybe he has been, that's not really the important part. Cause if that's all that Lewis 'changed' then that's just a time loop, Lewis grows up to be 12, the events of the movie happen, he comes back and knocks on the door, goes back to science fair, fixes the memory scanner, grows up to become Cornelius Robinson, marries Franny, has Wilbur, Wilbur leaves the door unlocked and Goob steals the time machine and sets everything back in motion again. A lot of the movie kinda sets up that this is a loop (keep moving forward and franny's advice 'i am always right')
But there's a few things keeping all of this from becoming a time loop. First one is that Lewis promised to never invent Doris, so firstly, this Lewis we have at the end of the movie remembers Doris, knows his future. Cornelius seems to know it in hindsight ('do we ever meet mom?' 'i think you might have to go back to the science fair and find out' i.e meeting Lucille) but not in the way Lewis will by the end of the movie. Point being, Lewis knows his future and is going to act accordingly, and no matter how it is he acts, that changes the time stream. Butterfly effect and such.
But more importantly: Lewis wakes Goob up. And in the movie this is a triumphant moment! Goob gets adopted, nobody will come to mess things up for Lewis since Goob has a family and he's sworn to never invent Doris.
So all of this happens, this is all true, but how can Wilbur not exist if Lewis knows the future and there's nothing there to disturb it? By having a different Wilbur. This Wilbur would I think be raised ever so slightly differently ('always lock the garage door' being hammered into him) and with an odd expectation on Lewis's side that this kid is gonna grow up to be the teenager he met when he was 12. And that, I think, makes for a different Wilbur than the one we met.
Meaning: a 99.999999% chance You won't exist might refer to a non time-travelling Wilbur existing instead of Our Wilbur.
I spend too much time thinking about this.

I’m leaning towards (in the art I’ve been doing) on Cornelius and Franny being Dor15’s (Doris) experiments—so make of that what you will

Oh, maybe in celebration of Disney's 100th Anniversary coming soon on October 16th, maybe you could do a 40 list, but only for Disney movies.
