there's a few fun twists in SWOJ and it's. it's killing me to wait to talk about it because they're pretty cool if I do say so myself 👉👈

I put a lot of work into making sure that, once all the information is revealed, it makes sense. No plot holes, no hand waving, nothing left to scratch your head at (at least not in terms of main plot; there's room for speculation about some other stuff because that's fun)

taking tiny fragments of stuff I made up years or even a decade ago and making a solid story out of it has taken a long time but it was so so worth it

okay so I don’t have coherent thoughts bc when do I ever but, I just keep thinking about doctor who and how like, bringing David and Catherine back allowed a reset?? of sorts?? so ncuti can be this fun doctor not carrying so much weight and yet it’s still not all brushed over and like probs will be addressed but it’s not going to be as dark a character as 10 maybe?? and also we get to finally see a happy ending for the doctor and companion which is stunning and beautiful and just. yeah. it’s just rlly rlly NICE like idk what else to say I know some people are like there’s no need to bring them back it’s mediocre it’s fanservice it’s not enough fan service well IT WORKED FOR THE TRANSITION AND THE EMOTIONAL IMPCT AND WAS UN AND THATS WHAT I WANTED SO THERE

ive been thinking abt smth, that i thought i would get more context when i rewatched s1, but didnt. after lilith visits her mother, shes very upset n said smth along the lines of “she doesnt understand. shes right. we need help.” whos “we”??? who the fuck is lilith talking abt?? im pretty sure im not misremembering i thought that was so weird but assumed it was smth that i hadnt recalled from s1. but no. lilith speaks as if theres smth inside her, living alongside her. her demon side? does it have a sort of “conscious”? are her human n demon identities clashing so hard they’re literally divided? is that still the case by the end of s2?? n is that why lilith acts so different?? was it not completely her the entire time in s2?? WHO THE FUCK IS “WE”??????????

Ticking

I got a pocket watch last Halloween for part of my costume. It was just a small thing from Hobby Lobby, and it was supposed to work. It was just for a part of a costume. I was a little disappointed when mine was broken, but it didn't bother me that it didn't work.

Fast forward to a few hours ago. I don't know what I did, but I got the watch to work by dropping it. Must have shook something into place, I guess. I excitedly set the watches time and admired it for a bit.

I'm a night owl, practically nocturnal at this point. It's six am, the sun is barely peeking over the horizon, not even enough to illuminate the blankets over my windows as makeshift curtains.

From my bedside table, 'tik tik tik' comes methodically from the pocket watch. I didn’t know where else to put it, so I just set it there for the night. It's not intrusive or anything, the sound is actually pretty calming.

'tik tik tik'

It's been that way for hours.

'Tk'

I turn my head to my door, propped slightly open for my cat, and held mostly closed with a rubber band. I hear it again.

'Tk'

It isn't the watch. It sounds like the hinges of the door are being moved just slightly. I expect my cats head to peek through, or her paw to slide under the door. But, nothing.

I shake it off and decide it was nothing, but I can't help but glance at the door occasionally, just in case. I'm only slightly paranoid after all.

'tik tik ti-'

The watch stops. But I can still hear it, slightly deeper and further away.

"Tik Tik Tik"

I turn my head to the door once again, my eyes wide. It's definitely coming from the hallway. I stay like that listening to this ticking. It feels wrong. When a sound has been in the back of your mind for hours, you notice when it changes. This ticking feels strange and unfamiliar even though it's almost exactly the same. Almost.

"Tik Tik- tik'

The pocket watch starts ticking again, like nothing ever happened. The hallway goes silent. I wait a few moments, but nothing happens. No more noises, just the soft ticking of my pocket watch.

The sun has risen further by now. I can see the shape of my window illuminated through my blankets now, and my room is definitely brighter. I can hear my little brother stirring in his bed across the hall. I definitely feel like the danger has passed now, but not knowing what mimicked my pocket watch is still ebbing at my mind. I'm undeniably curious but cautiously skeptical. Even if I were to check now, I doubt it's still there. I don't feel afraid anymore, which is how I know.

And still beside me, I can hear the soft sound of my pocket watch.

'tik tik tik'

Like nothing ever happened. Maybe it was all in my head.

Willel Twins Crumbs Because Why Not

Subtitles for the news report stop at this point for this scene, so I will provide them:

Can you remember your favorite stuffed toy from childhood?

And how heartbroken you were when it left your life?

Then you’ll relate to the story, of a girl named *unintelligible*

So right from the jump, directly after the opening credits, we are being bombarded with shots of keys and Hopper showing off his blue bracelet and his watch. We know the bracelet was actually a ponytail that belonged to his daughter Sarah, however I think the importance of this scene runs a lot deeper.

It might not seem important, but the dialogue in the background also connects to not only Sarah, but to Will and El too.

As we know, Sarah had a stuffed Tiger on her bedside at the hospital during treatment for her cancer (also featuring the blue ponytail on Hopper's wrist).

As it turns out, Will and El also had a stuffed toy that was referenced in this same season, though they both had stuffed lions, in contrast to Sarah's stuffed tiger.

While it is understood by the majority at this time that these parallels exist only to jog Hopper's memory of his own daughters death, to give some more depth and impact to these moments, it still doesn't answer the question as to why these 3 kids all have the same stuffed toy to begin with? And apparently enough importance for them to drop an easter egg in the first 10 minutes of the show?

In the context of El for example, she has the stuffed lion because it was essentially the only meaningful toy in her possession while in the lab. Sure, she played with toys in the rainbow room and colored with crayons, but those were all things they were tasked to do to test out and improve the kids' powers. The lion in contrast, was simply there to operate as something more personal, tied to her innocence and a life she could have had outside of the lab. And yet at the same time, this being the only thing El had in the lab, gives its importance a tie to the lab itself, which is why I am so wary about this whole thing.

In the context of Will on the other hand, we don't really know much other than that it was shown a lot more than El and Sarahs' combined.

Will's lion and the prominence of it in s1, more than anything else, is what makes me think the meaning behind these parallels is so much more than how we currently understand it. Because while we assume right now he has no ties to the lab, the fact that this stuffed toy has ties to the lab for El and Sarah, begs to question why there was a need to focus on it so much in Will's case, when he was never in the lab pre-s1 (or was he?)...

Which then brings us to Sarah, where you might think her case has no ties to the lab, but it does!

Sarah received treatment for her cancer at Hawkins Lab. This is something so many people either overlook and don't know about, or forget and just brush off as being insignificant, which I just cannot fathom.

It would be one thing if this was common knowledge in canon and actually spoken about, with Hopper talking about how it's not his first time here, and yet they don't make any effort to establish that. All we got is this stairwell shot of Hopper mourning Sarah's death, in the same stairwell at Hawkins Lab, which we see not only referenced in s1, but also s2 and s4.

Yeah... Owens knows exactly who that is. Let's not forget he's the one who, in another universe (Aliens) signed a document back in 79' that led the death of a lot of people...

So... what's the deal? Why has there been such an effort to put in easter eggs to allude to something unanswered related to Hopper's memories of Sarah, often triggered by instances regarding Will and El, who have almost identical stuffed animals to his daughter's, all tying them to the lab to some extent, and without that being touched on at all by the writers outside of the show?

Well, probably because there's still one season left and this plays a big part in the key to everything...
