dead patrol is SUCH a fun episode. everyone is in purgatory finding emotional catharsis apart from larry who is having a mental break down and having to you can exhale now some dead british twink so he’ll bring his best friends back to life. also ruthie connell is there!

For those keeping score here are all the TV shows based on the work of Neil Gaiman from the last ten years. Lucifer - Loosely based on the version of Lucifer who quits ruling Hell and opens a piano bar, from The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman. Originally aired on Fox and then moved to Netflix for seasons 4 through 6. Neil Gaiman also got to play God in a bonus episode for season 3. The full series can be watched on Netflix. And is available on DVD. The plot deals with Lucifer, the ruler of Hell, up and quitting and moving to Earth where he opens a night club called Lux and takes up playing piano. In the TV series he befriends (and eventually falls in love with) a woman homicide detective named Chloe Decker.

_______________________ American Gods - Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. Aired on Starz. The plot deals with a man called Shadow Moon who gets dragged into the strange world of Old and New Gods vying for power.

________________ Anansi Boys - Originally written by Neil Gaiman as a spin-off of American Gods, the TV series version was filmed for Amazon Prime and is currently in post-production (Not yet released.) The plot deals with the sons of Anansi, the African trickster Spider-God.

__________________ Good Omens - Showrun by Neil Gaiman and based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Also Neil Gaiman has a small cameo in the first season. Available now on Amazon Prime. Seasons 1 and 2 are complete. Season 3 has not yet started filming and will very likely be the final season. Season 1 is currently available on DVD. The plot deals with two "differently competent" entities, an Angel and a Demon, who have come to love life on Earth and each other. And now must work together to prevent the apocalypse.

______________________________ The Sandman - First episode was co-written by Neil Gaiman, based on the stories and original characters created by Neil Gaiman with a few borrowed DC comics characters. Currently on Netflix. Season 2 is in production now. Neil Gaiman also voiced a ghostly bird in the bonus episode segment Dream of a Thousand Cats. Season 1 will be available on DVD and Blu Ray at the end of this month. The plot deals with Morpheus, the King of Dreams, who accidentally gets summoned and captured by occultists who had been trying to capture The Grim Reaper. After over a hundred and six years in captivity Morpheus finally escapes and has to track down his tools which had been taken from him when he was captured. He also comes to realize he had made many terrible mistakes in the past and struggles to set those wrongs right.

_________________________________________ The Dead Boy Detectives - First official spin-off of The Sandman. The Dead Boy Detectives were originally planned as an HBO Max series (now just Max) but moved to Netflix after the success of the first season of The Sandman. Based on characters who first appeared in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman: Season of Mists, Neil Gaiman is involved in the production. The plot is a pair of ghost teenagers decide to become detectives and are really bad at it. These two characters made a previous appearance in Doom Patrol on Max (Formerly HBO Max) but had been played by different actors.

I can’t stop thinking about what Buffy the Vampire Slayer would have been like if season 3 had a Buffy/Faith/Angel love triangle. Not the heteronormative one. The one where Buffy is in love with both Angel and Faith.

Think about it. As Buffy secretly nurses Angel back to health when he comes back from hell, Faith is introduced. Buffy knows her relationship with Angel is doomed/trouble trusting him after what he did to her as Angelus/guilt for killing him. Between helping Angel and her “normal” life, slaying with Faith is ironically the only time she can relax. Faith is newer to the scoobies, so Buffy opens up to her about everything and confides in her. Their bond deepens and feelings develop. They start secretly hooking up during their patrols. At the same time, Angel is getting better and things might be starting to happen between him and Buffy again. Faith finds out and gets understandably upset. Buffy is torn between them, and comes to the painful conclusion that while she loves Angel, their relationship is impossible. She realizes she also loves Faith and wants to see where that goes. But as she’s about to tell Faith she chose her, they are attacked which is what leads to Faith accidentally killing the deputy mayor. Faith’s reaction to killing him alarms Buffy so she pulls away from Faith instead of confessing her feelings. Then Buffy finds out Faith slept with Xander, which hurts and confuses her even more. There would also be a very real and sweet moment where she admits everything to Giles, who validates and supports her as she comes to terms with her bisexuality.

Angel and Buffy grow back together. Faith, in cahoots with the mayor now, is hurt and wants to get back at Buffy. This leads to the episode where Faith tries to get with Angel and Angel pretends to be Angelus to find out what she and the mayor are up to.

In their final fight of the season, Buffy confesses her love to Faith and that she would’ve chosen her over Angel. This catches Faith off guard long enough for Buffy to get the upper hand and tearfully stab her. Thinking she’s killed Faith, Buffy laments that Faith died thinking Buffy only said what she said to throw her off, when Buffy meant every word.

Angel would witness this, which would be part of what triggers him breaking up with Buffy since he wants her to have a real relationship like the one she could’ve had with Faith. In the final battle against the mayor, Buffy says something about the mayor corrupting the girl she loved.

THEN SEASON 4 Faith is EXTRA pissed when she wakes from the coma bc not only did Buffy try to kill her Faith thinks their whole relationship was a lie and ON TOP OF ALL THAT BUFFY HAS A NEW BF and even later Faith and Angel REALLY have to sort thru their personal issues with each other along with Faith’s redemption arc then SEASON 7 Buffy and Faith FINALLY have an honest and heartbreaking conversation about their relationship and their love was real but there’s too much broken trust between them to start back up romantically though they will always love each other WHAT THESE SHOWS COULD HAVE BEEN

Elseworlds Addendum - The Doom Patrol

Un unconventional band of heroes, The Doom Patrol were composed of individuals the world often saw as freaks and misfits.  Each had been the victim of strange and tragic happenstance, drastically altering their lives as well as bestowing them fantastic powers.  

The renown scientist, Niles ‘The Chief’ Caulder sought out these outcasts and offered them a purpose, a means to grasp their misfortunes and use it in the service of battling evil.  

The original team was composed of three heroes, Elesti-Girl, Robot Man and Negative Man.  Elasi-Girl was Rita Farr, a starlet of the silver screen who gained size-altering powers after exposure to a strange mutagenic substance.  Robot Man was Cliff Steel, a celebrated race-car driver whose body was destroyed in a terrible accident.  Caulder was able to save Cliff’s brain and transplanted it into a powerful and sophisticated android body.  Finally, Negative Man was Larry Trainer, an air force pilot whose jet passed through a bizarre cloud of ‘negative energy.’  Exposure to this energy caused Trainer’s body to become radioactive, forcing him to wear special treated bandages to protect those around him.  It additionally enabled him to project a negative energy construct of himself, a shadowy being that possessed high speed flight, enhanced strength and durability.  

The trio were later joined by Steve Dayton, a successful businessman and inventor who created a special helmet that augmented his intellectual faculties.  He took on the alias of Mento to become a member of the Doom Patrol after falling in love with Rita Farr.  The two married and went on to adopt Garfield Logan, an orphaned youngster who possessed the ability to transform into various animals.  As Beast Boy, Garfield also joined the Doom Patrol.  The relationship between Rita and Steve soured and Mento ultimately left the team.  

In a final mission, The Doom Patrol chose to sacrifice themselves in order to save a small island inhabited by innocent civilians.  Beast Boy was the sole survivor having not been on the mission.  Orphaned once again, he went on to find a new family when he became a member of the Teen Titans.  Years later, it was revealed that Robot Man had survived as well and his android body was repaired.  

Although The Doom  Patrol never appeared in the DCAU, they did feature in episodes of the fifth season of Teen Titans.  The Doom Patrol first appeared in the 80th issue of the comic book, ‘My Greatest Adventure’ released in June and 1963.
