Am I the only one with the vibe that Barbare will retire? Many episodes in this season of AB are about changes...and sometimes it seems like Barbs surrenders to them, she tries to fight but then she is like "change is inevitable" and not in a positive tone
don't do this to me, Quinta!

I just gave my family my wishlist - mostly books and comics - for Christmas since we do Secret Santa
I know that people usually do this at work, but we are starting to be a bigger family, and we can't afford to buy each member a gift. For me, personally, it would be impossible
We apply a maximum budget, we have a deadline to send to the family group our wishlist, and everyone gets a gift for Christmas

Bending, not Breaking: The Resilience of Trees to Winds
ITA version ESP version
Anyone who has witnessed strong gusts of wind knows how trees can bend without breaking, returning to their upright position. This resilience depends on natural strategies that allow trees to dissipate wind energy and prevent damage. In some cases, moderate winds enhance tree stability, helping them adapt to their windy environment. However, when wind force exceeds their resistance threshold, trunks, branches, or roots can break, causing devastating effects on forests. With the rise in extreme weather events, such as cyclones and typhoons driven by climate change, understanding the mechanisms of tree resistance is crucial. This knowledge is essential to reduce economic losses and prevent the spread of pathogens and harmful insects. A recent study analysed the behaviour of Cryptomeria japonica trees in two forest plots with different configurations. In the non-thinned P-100 plot, there were 3000 stems per hectare, while in the thinned P-50 plot, the number was halved to 1500 stems per hectare. To study tree responses to wind, researchers installed strain gauges at the base of the trunks to measure torque forces and inertial measurement units at six meters height to track three-dimensional movements. Between 2017 and 2019, researchers collected data on tree responses to natural winds, including those caused by the super typhoon Trami in 2018. Later, uprooted trees were used for torsion and pulling experiments. In these experiments, trees were pulled until uprooting to measure the maximum torque, the force required to topple them. Results showed that trees oscillate at two main frequencies. Under light winds, they oscillate at high frequency (2-2.3 cycles per second), where branches absorb most energy, protecting trunks and roots. In stronger winds, they switch to low-frequency oscillation (0.2-0.5 cycles per second), where the entire tree moves as a single system, transferring forces to the trunk and roots, increasing the risk of breaking or uprooting. The transition between these oscillation modes depends on forest density. In the dense P-100 plot, the transition occurred at wind speeds between 1.79 and 7.44 m/s, while in the thinned P-50 plot, it happened at lower speeds, between 1.57 and 5.63 m/s, due to higher exposure to wind. During typhoon Trami, researchers found that the actual resistance of uprooted trees in the thinned plot was only 48% of the resistance estimated through experiments. This discrepancy was attributed to root fatigue, a phenomenon where roots accumulate stress from repeated light winds preceding stronger ones. This continuous movement progressively weakens the roots, making them unable to withstand higher loads. The thinned plot suffered more damage because its lower density allowed greater wind penetration, aggravating root fatigue. Adapting forest management practices is essential to ensure resilient forests with climate change intensifying extreme weather. Although thinning promotes tree growth, it can also increase vulnerability to storms. This study demonstrates that integrating mechanical and dynamic knowledge into forest management is vital to balance growth and resilience.

Ten People I'd Like To Know Better
Tagged by @walkingaline
Last song: it has been 2 days that I'm basically skipping all songs for no reason, Spotify says the last long listened is Cold Fire by Rush
Favourite colour: Red and Wisteria (I am not going to say black, even if I love it because black is the absence of colours, therefore not a colour itself)
Last book: finished? Different, Gender through the eyes of a primatologist by Frans de Waal. While I'm actively reading Italo Calvino racconta l'Orlando Furioso di Ludovico Ariosto
Last movie: I don't recall the last movie I watched, I think it was Deadpool and Wolverine, because I don't think that Who Done It - The Clue Documentary counts as a movie
Sweet/Spicy/Savoury: all of them, if it is well done and vegetarian, I will probably eat it...and ask for the recipe
Relationship status: AHAHAHAHAH!!! (Does it make things clear? If not...I am all alone)
Last thing I googled: Wisteria colour, because I wasn't sure it was its name in English
Current obsession: playing Squad Buster (because of my nephew), trying to find affordable exercise to be back at my fit form, Poison Ivy, Harlivy...I don't know
Looking forward to: results of a project I wrote, results of a couple of CVs I sent, my shoulder getting fixed because I miss doing aerial arts, a proper job, being independent again, more new-old music, new adventures, my scientific career to develop
I am not going to tag people; if you see this on your dashboard, it means you follow me, and if so and want to play it, feel free to tag me so I can read answers and know people!

Update: I didn't like too much the documentary
I understand and admire the afford of a fan for doing this, but the montage, the linearity, and other things weren't for my taste. The creator wanted to be inside the documentary, and I think that sometimes you should be behind the scenes. Also it didn't bring anything new about the knowledge of the movie. I thought I was going to learn some interesting backstage facts (ok, the fact that Carrie Fisher was the first option for Mrs Scarlet was pretty awesome)
