The way you talked about mar’i, can you talk about the twins from omega squad?
Absolutely I can!
First, foremost, and most importantly—They might be twins, but they ain’t the same person. That’s the number one lesson their parents taught them and people around them
They are rainbow babies, Linda had two miscarriages before them. She and Wally always say “You each came down alone, then went back for the other.”
Irey was always the bigger twin….until puberty made her brother 6’2 and kept her at 5’4
Milagro was doing a fashion shoot for a styling class and needed some models for her “Noir” shoot. Jai and Irey were more than happy to help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not show are Lian and Damian choking on their lunch when the twins walked in after the shoot
I fully believe that Omega has needed a distraction or diversion for a mission, and the twins just started FIGHTING. In that way only siblings can, y’know?
Both deal with eating disorders—Irey from an abusive ex, Jai from his depression—but that’s what Lian and Mar’i are there for. Lian will refuse to eat until Jai does, and Mar’i offers some of her favorite snacks to Irey.
On really bad days of his depression, ireys made him look at her and said “You’re not leaving me here alone.”
Are they both the “sunshine’s” in their relationships? Absolutely. But make no mistake. They are the scary ones of the relationships.
90% of the time, they are definitely their father’s children, goofy, a love of learning, clumsy. But make no mistake, that other 10%, they are their mother’s son and daughter. They have torn egotistical heroes and Villians down with words alone. Their dad might be the Flash, but their mother is THE Linda Park and you will put respect in the name
Essentially, they are truly—Fuck around, find out.
They’re also super fucking loyal. Like someone called Mar’i “r*tared” once. When they could hear. Irey had them against the wall, her forearm against their throat, while Jai threatened them
On the flip side, they are super proud of their Korean Heritage. They both chose to learn the language as part of the “multilingual” aspect of their hero training (and even before). They blast K-pop and k-rock. They have recreated K-Drama scenes for fun, to the amusement of their teammates. They both get Hanboks to wear when they decide to go to Korea for a weekend trip. They cook as many meals as their mom remembers growing up with. They always keep Kimchi and gochujang in the Omega fridge, as well as all the things to make Kimbap, a comfort snack for bad days
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jai loves the hat, thank you very much
They look up to Donny and Dawn more than can be put into words. Like they’re second cousins once removed, but if you ask them, that’s their big brother and sister. They love how happy Mel makes Donny and just want the best for both them
Irey points out she’s only kissed one person on the team, which Jai says “It was a mission, but colin is a great kisser!”
Irey’s straight, but Jai is like….on super thin ice sometimes
The lab at the tower might be a public space, but that’s their lab. They know the policy. But that’s just the facts
They both learned how to use their partners weapons. Irey actually managed to use a fight against one of the Alpha guys during a sparring match. Jai was laughing so hard he was on the ground
Asha, Irey and Damian’s daughter, adores her “Unca Jai-Jai”
They like to go to science expos and comic cons together
Irey is a biter when it comes to fist fights and Jai swears he has scars.
They both cried for days when Jay and Joan Garret died
Linda died two weeks after Luke, Jai and Lian’s son, was born. She’d been diagnosed with late stage lung cancer after Lian found out she was pregnant. She decided against treatment and spent that last year making as many memories with her children and grandchildren as she could.
Jai and Irey were with Omega when they got the news. They both fell to their knees and were sobbing and screaming for her.
They do think they would have made it through that time without their friends, especially Mar’i and Lian.

There’s this thing about sports, this undeniable allure that operates somewhere between an elemental truth and a complete con. Because sports aren’t actually about winning or losing, not really, and they’re certainly not about the narrative arcs we’re all so desperate to impose on them. No, sports are about patterns—the endlessly recurring, fractal-like repetition of themes that are somehow both entirely predictable and yet still capable of knocking the wind out of you, leaving you half-elated, half-enraged, wholly invested.
Take this week, for example. It's only Tuesday, and two undefeated streaks were both obliterated, both in ways that seemed to fold into themselves like some kind of meta-commentary on why we care so much in the first place.
youtube
First, the Kansas City Chiefs lose to the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are a franchise practically designed to be a symbol of futility, except not the dramatic, Shakespearean kind of futility, but the mundane, grinding kind—the kind that feels more like a low-grade fever than a tragic flaw. And yet, there they were, hosting the Kansas City Chiefs in Buffalo, facing Patrick Mahomes (who, let’s face it, has transcended quarterback status to become this kind of vaguely mythological figure) and the reigning-champion Chiefs, who hadn’t yet lost this season. And Josh Allen—this big, shambling paradox of a quarterback, capable of looking both transcendent and bizarrely amateurish within the same quarter—finally had his moment. He outplayed Mahomes. The Bills didn’t just win; they reasserted some long-forgotten sense of possibility. It was electric, sure, but also deeply fragile, because anyone who knows the Bills knows this can’t last. But for one week, they were kings.
youtube
And then there’s the Cleveland Cavaliers, whose streak ended not with triumph but with something that felt closer to a cosmic correction. The Boston Celtics—a team that has somehow managed to turn ruthless efficiency into an aesthetic—showed up in Cleveland and proceeded to dismantle the Cavs in a way that felt less like a game and more like a reminder of the universe’s natural order. Jayson Tatum, who plays basketball with a kind of brutal inevitability that makes you feel simultaneously awed and vaguely resentful, didn’t just beat the Cavs. He ended them. Cleveland’s star player Donovan Mitchell went down in the game’s final moments, a sequence that was less an accident than a narrative exclamation point. And just when it seemed like the Celtics might show some mercy, Horford iced the whole thing with a dunk so definitive it practically echoed.
The thing is, none of this is new. These patterns—the rise and fall, the triumphs and humiliations, the victories that feel like redemption but are really just setups for future heartbreak—are baked into the DNA of sports. What makes them maddening is also what makes them irresistible: the idea that they’re always just on the verge of resolving into something clear and meaningful, even though they never really do. Which, of course, is why we keep watching. Because in their messiness, their refusal to make sense, they feel more like life than life itself.

Mohawk Trading Corporation:
The DIRECT ACTION unit of Sullivan and Cromwell and the COI
“Three weeks after Roosevelt created the Coordinator of Information, an innocuous notice appeared in the Federal Register announcing it. The COI, it said, would “collect and analyze all information and data which may bear upon the national security,” send it to the president and “such departments and officials as the president may determine,” and carry out “such supplementary activities as may facilitate the securing of information important for national security, not now available to the Government.”
With that, the United States established its first full-fledged intelligence agency by presidential decree.
When Japanese bombers attacked the American base at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Americans instantly ceased to debate whether their country should enter the war. Whatever sense of security they felt had been shattered. In Washington, shock over the attack quickly gave way to a realization that it had been the result of a profound intelligence failure. Congress and the executive branch rushed to give the COI whatever support it needed.
Part of what it needed was the skill and experience of Allen Dulles. A few weeks after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Donovan approached him through a mutual friend, David Bruce. It was the call for which Allen had been waiting. Bruce told him that Donovan needed a man for a job. He said nothing about the job, only that it required “absolute discretion, sobriety, devotion to duty, languages, and wide experience.” Allen accepted instantly.
Like many stories about Allen during these years, this one has come into question. By some accounts he was already working for Donovan at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. What is clear is that by early 1942, he had closed his Sullivan & Cromwell cases and taken over as chief of the COI station in New York. He leased a large suite of offices on the thirty-sixth floor of the International Building at Rockefeller Center and brought dozens, scores, and then hundreds of men and women to work there: lawyers, financiers, former diplomats, businessmen, and professors. Officially they were financial consultants. To friends they were allowed to say that they worked for a “research unit” related to the war effort, while stressing its “dull, statistical” nature.
New York was the logical first place, and Dulles was the logical guy because of his contacts,” one of Donovan’s aides later recalled. “He started bringing people in right away.”
Allen had two principal assignments. First was to lay the groundwork for an intelligence network that could penetrate Germany and the German-held regions of Europe, which meant finding and interviewing immigrants, Americans who had lived in those regions, and others who might have valuable memories or contacts. Second was an even wider-ranging effort to debrief everyone in New York, especially merchant seamen and newly arrived immigrants, who could give information—the more precise, the better—about European cities, ports, roads, rail lines, airports, factories, and military bases. Allen’s agents also swarmed over docks, sailors’ registry offices, and holding pens for “enemy aliens,” offering money for objects that immigrants might have considered worthless but that could be valuable to infiltrators. They bought old suits, neckties, overcoats, and shoes that could help agents blend in, and also identity cards, ration books, and other documents for forgers to use as models.
All manner of European exiles and refugees poured into the Rockefeller Center office; one, Heinrich Brüning, had been chancellor of Germany until 1932. The office swelled to fill four floors. When that proved insufficient, Allen rented eight more offices around the city, including one at 42 Broadway, near the docks. He quickly became fascinated with the possibilities for “direct action” operations in Europe, and established a front called the Mohawk Trading Corporation, through which he assembled an arsenal of sniper rifles, silencers, poison pills, and other tools of the black arts.
Allen had chosen his suite at Rockefeller Center in part because it adjoined one where another secret operation was under way, run by the legendary Sir William Stephenson, later revealed to be the spymaster Churchill called “Intrepid” and supposedly a model for Commander Fleming’s fictional agent 007. Churchill had sent Stephenson to New York in 1940 to gather intelligence and try to push the United States toward entering the war. He established himself in Suite 3603 of the International Building, where the sign on the door said “British Passport Control Office.” Britain was known as setting the gold standard in intelligence work, and Allen found in Stephenson a role model, inspiration, and guru.
“He had much to teach me,” Allen said later. “I picked his brains.”
On June 13, 1942, with the United States engaged in global war, Roosevelt signed an order transforming the Coordinator of Information from an intelligence-gathering agency into one authorized to conduct covert and paramilitary operations. There was no change in leadership, but a new name: the Office of Strategic Services. The OSS was authorized to do everything its predecessor had done and one thing more: “Plan and operate such services as may be directed by the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff.”
“With this, Donovan’s blueprint for the coordination of strategic intelligence collection with secret operations was realized,” Allen wrote later. “An intelligence agency had been created for the first time in the United States which brought together under one roof the work of intelligence collection and counterespionage, with the support of underground resistance activities, sabotage, and almost anything else in aid of our national effort that regular armed forces were not equipped to do.”
The OSS opened secret training camps for agents in Maryland and Virginia, and quickly ballooned to a staff of more than six hundred, most based in New York or Washington. Allen hired many of them. He described them as “military men and civilian leaders, teachers, bankers, lawyers, businessmen, librarians, writers, publishers, ballplayers, missionaries, reformed safe-crackers, bartenders, tugboat operators.… A bartender was hired not because he knew how to mix drinks but because he spoke perfect Italian and was at home in the mountain passes of the Apennines; a missionary because he knew the tribes and native dialects of Burma; an expert in engraving because his agents would need the most expert documentation to pass through enemy lines.”
That was a romanticized description of the men and women who joined the OSS. There were mud-on-the-shoes types, of course, but Allen and other recruiters for the OSS looked mostly to people like themselves, people they knew from prep school, college, the practice of corporate law or investment banking, clubs, vacation resorts, or the Council on Foreign Relations. The upper reaches of the OSS comprised what Drew Pearson called “one of the fanciest groups of dilettante diplomats, Wall Street bankers, and amateur detectives ever seen in Washington.” Many from this group would go on to help shape the United States in the second half of the twentieth century: Richard Helms, William Colby, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., Walt Rostow, Stewart Alsop, C. Douglas Dillon, Arthur Goldberg, William Casey, Ralph Bunche, and a parade of unlikelier figures ranging from Sterling Hayden to Julia Child.

10 for Mel and Donny?💓
Baby Bart!
——————-
“Mama!”
“Yes, sweet boy?” Mel looks over at her son, smiling softly as he toddles toward her. Holding up a familiar plushie.
“Dada!”
“Yes, Barty,” She nods, lifting him up, “That’s your daddy.”
As if summoned, the front door swings open, her husband strolls in. Bart squeals seeing his father, leaning in his mothers arms precariously. In a crack of lightning, Donny’s there to catch him.
“Hello, trouble,” Donny grins, kissing his son’s head, then his wife. “Hey, baby, you have a good day?”
“Well, someone took an extra long nap, so it’s been an busy afternoon.” Mel plays with Barty’s fiery hair. Barty wiggles out of his father’s arms, toddling back to his toys. Mel watches with a smile. How did she get such a beautiful boy? Warm arms wrap about her waist, a chin resting on her shoulder.
“What sounds good for dinner?” He asks, smiling as she relaxes against him.
“Dawn’s coming over in a bit. She’s bringing food.”
“Ever think we take advantage of my chef sister?”
Mel snorts, “She provides dinner in exchange for stealing our son. It’s a fair trade, Allen.”
“I love how you say my last name like it’s not yours too.”
