QUEER SOLIDARITY
Kavuma Abdullah ( @kavumas-blog ) is a queer refugee from Uganda. He had to flee to Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya to escape homophobia. In Kakuma he was assaulted for his sexuality and his shelter was burnt down by homophobes. He is now in a different refugee camp.

this drawing of Ragsat Al ‘Aroos, or the Sudanese bridal dance, was made in collaboration with awladalneel for their fundraiser for their work and the sudan solidarity collective. prints are available with proceeds to the same.
The ritual dates back to the Kingdom of Kush, where the dance was performed by couples during wedding ceremonies as an ode to the fertility god and to highlight the brides’ beauty. Until recently it was performed topless with a stringed skirt (rahat) pulled undone during the dance. Today, some choose to continue the tradition, reshaping the ritual to meet religious, familial, or personal preferences. Brides prepare intensively with a teacher (ragasa) and perform after the ceremony (jirtig). The bride begins in a thoob and groom in a jalabiya, and during the dance her belt is cut and thrown to the audience. The specifics of the dance, as well as the wedding week, vary widely across tribes, communities, and regions (it is most common in the north). The dance, and the African history it embodies, has survived and adapted to Arab, Egyptian, Ottoman, and British rule, and today through the struggle for freedom & peace in contemporary Sudan.

This is a link to a website where you can donate to the people in Sudan who are currently experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises of this decade. Please share this link & donate if you can, any means of gaining traction for these people in need, and please, do not forget about Sudan like so many others have. Don’t stay ignorant.
Here are some campaigns that are under 30% as of November 8, 2024:

🌍 What Would You Do If Being Yourself Meant Facing Death or Life Imprisonment? 🏳️‍🌈
Right now, LGBTQ individuals in East Africa are living under the shadow of the Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2023 a cruel law that criminalizes being gay with punishments as severe as life imprisonment or death.
As a leader and a representative for the LGBTQ refugees in East Africa , im dedicated to being a lifeline for those in danger. I want to provide safety, resources, and hope to those most at risk. This weekend, in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we ask you to join us in standing for justice and love. Together, we can make a difference.
💡 $10 provides a warm meal for a hungry person.
💡 $25 can feed 3 people for an entire day.
💡 $200 helps us purchase a large shelter tent for 15 people, offering them a safe space to sleep and live.
❤️ Your support can save lives. Donate today to our fundraiser:

Dr. King once said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Let’s honor his legacy by standing with those who need us most.
🙏 With gratitude,

Even now, in the 21st century, a rising, hate-filled bigotry reaches into the past and has revived the cruelty of archaic, Bronze Age laws.
The Weaponization of Laws— In Africa, 31 countries have criminalized consensual same-sex sexual activity, despite it being a clear violation of human rights. Amnesty International is calling on African states and governments to comply with international or regional human rights laws and basic principles of human dignity and equality. “Across Africa, LGBTQ persons find themselves contending with a disturbing regression of progress. ...Arbitrary arrests and detentions have become all too common, treating the mere act of being oneself as a criminal offense. In some places, the death penalty looms as a terrifying spectre, a brutally unjust punishment for simply being who they are. We face what can only be described as a deepening crisis of homophobic lawfare.” said Tigere Chagutah of Amnesty International.

Bishop asks Trump to Show Mercy to LGBTQ People and Migrants @ashleymilesphil, an African lgbtq refugee, puts the Bishop’s call for mercy into perspective: "The recent plea from a U.S. bishop asking President Trump to show mercy to LGBTQ migrants is a powerful reminder of the critical need for compassion and humanity in addressing the struggles of queer communities worldwide. While this call is directed toward the United States, it resonates deeply with us LGBTQ refugees in East Africa who face unimaginable persecution simply for existing. "In our countries, being LGBTQ is illegal and often punishable by imprisonment or death. We live under constant threat not only from the law but also from hostile communities, violent attacks, and systemic discrimination that leaves us without shelter, healthcare, or basic human dignity. Many of us were forced to flee our homes and families, only to find that refugee camps like Kakuma and Gorom offer no true sanctuary. Here, we are silenced, beaten, and in some cases, killed for daring to be ourselves. "We urge the global community, including faith leaders, activists, and allies, to amplify our voices and call for justice. Mercy is not enough if it does not come with action. We need decriminalization, protection, access to basic services, and the chance to live without fear. "Please do not forget us LGBTQ refugees in East Africa who are still crying out for solidarity. We need your voices to speak up for us. "Together, we can call on governments, organizations, and individuals to move beyond mercy to meaningful action. Let’s strive for a world where no one is criminalized for love, and every LGBTQ person, no matter where they are, has the right to live in freedom and dignity." Signed, ~LGBTQ Refugees in East Africa Please consider showing support for the refugees in East Africa by donating at the link below. They may be thousands of miles away, but we, all of us, are bound together by our humanity, not by our proximity. Every single donation, no matter how small, helps.
If you can't donate, please consider sharing this post on your blog. Because Human Rights do not simply arise by themselves. They spring from actions, and the will of individuals, like us, to make them happen. My sincere THANK YOU for taking the time to read this. And perhaps now is a good time for those of us not living in fear, to feel a moment of quiet gratitude.

PRO PALESTINIANS 🇵🇸 we must also bring awareness to Congo ! They are going through a silent genocide
LINK TO DONATE ⬇️ to fund doctors who will directly help women who are being r@ped daily and help them heal physically so they can have dignity and as normal a life as humanly possible
What is happening is barbaric and disgusting and I’m ashamed that I have only just learnt about this so recently. I’m sure like me none of you knew about this either (in the West) but now we know we have to talk about it. Keep talking about Palestine but talk about Congo too and Sudan

Your donation today can help us deliver vital supplies, deploy medical teams, and treat those in desperate need.

This newsletter was compiled before the latest rescue of four hostages from Gaza.  However, all of Israel is celebrating the good news, despite the loss of another Israeli hero. The photo is from one of the many celebrations that have been taking place in Israel as we depart the traditional period of mourning after Passover and look forward to the Jewish festival of Shavuot (Pentacost) which commemorates the Revelation on Mount Sinai.  We pray that we will have many more opportunities to celebrate in the coming weeks and months.  Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy these latest news items of positive Israeli activities and achievements.

Hey everyone. This is my friend Modou lamin. Modou lives in The Gambia and has been single handedly raising his 4 younger siblings since he lost his parents in high school, forcing him to drop out. I was supporting them on my own until a few months ago because of my own financial trouble. In that time his younger sister died of Malaria because he could not take her to hospital and I couldn't get them the money. So I made a fund.
They buy from their local market, you can see it in the video just below. He loves to make green tea and cook for him and his siblings.
Tumblr media
They regularly have no place to sleep safely, to the point that Modou will maybe get 2-4 hours of sleep each night to keep watch while his family sleeps and yet he is still kind and caring and always asks me how my family is and if we are safe. I hate to see him struggle this much. Please help me feed my friend. I may not be able to drop $60 a month, but added up smaller donations could make it so they're not without food again, and get back on their feet. The exchange rate is high with $1 USD = $63 GMD. Please reblog and share on other platforms, my usual online support system has let me down on this and I need help to spread this around. Thank you
