Like, they trust me enough to know I won't blow up or double down, and that I'll try to fix whatever mistake I made.

I just wanted to say I really admire how effortlessly masculine you are but how you also love so many traditionally "feminine" things. I am working on coming out as a trans man and dread people telling me I'm not allowed to knit and stuff anymore

One of the annoying aspects of transition is you become this walking litmus test for weird gender essentialism - even in progressive folks - and you're gonna learn just how much people deprive themselves of personal joy because of it.

I cannot tell you how many well-meaning people ended up shitting on my hobbies out of a desire to give me "man lessons" that I never asked for in the first place.

All I can say is, stick to your guns. Sure, knitting has also historically been a masculine activity, but to acknowledge such feels like giving credence to the argument that you have to drop "unmanly" interests. Knit because you like to knit, not because you are "allowed to" based on some gendered technicality.

Don't feel like you need to sacrifice parts of yourself in order to transition. If the best version of you is a man who knits, or a man who likes pink, or a man who enjoys wearing makeup, resist the urge to destroy these pieces of yourself.

Detractors will attempt to weaponize everything about you in an attempt to de-legitimize who you are. The most radical thing you can do is show them how your passions only make you stronger.

The dread is real, but it gets easier to assert yourself over time. You might even find yourself becoming an ambassador to other men wrt your hobbies. Good luck!

so on the subject of the "Crowley is secretly Revaan/Laverne/Levin/please Twst give us his name" theory, I think my feelings are best summed up as "I don't really buy it, but it's funny". like, in all seriousness, I'm not opposed to it; I have enjoyed the writing in Twst so far and I'm willing to trust that whatever happens will, you know, make sense and not be terrible. but I'm just not really convinced by the current evidence! maybe that'll change once we learn more, we'll see!

So whenever people are criticized for doing the whole "all men are evil and disgusting" thing, I've noticed that some will reply with a little "well obviously I'm only talking about the Bad people, you must be evil and disgusting if you feel insulted by it. So I was a pretty quiet kid at school. And whenever the class ended up being loud or disruptive, the teacher would typically go on the whole "I am so disappointed in this entire class, this behavior is horrible, etc." Now, I knew that I wasn't contributing to this behavior. Was I still affected by this whole speech? Yes, I always felt incredibly guilty and called out, because the teacher was angry at the entire class (including me) for the actions of a small group within the class.

So, no. I won't "just know" that those statements are not talking about me, because there was no specification of "misogynists are horrible," you said men, and because plenty of people will call transmasculine people and nonbinary people "gender traitors" and imply that their gender is "disgusting" or "evil" or inherently misogynistic, of course that statement is going to make me feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

Sadly, the Esland Awards have been an event with a history of much controversy, a lot of division, and a lot of divisions within the community, and as you guys know, as you know, my content has never been characterized by seeking controversy or divisions or anything like that. It's for this exact reason that I don't want to be involved with these awards.

In advance, I ask the organizers of any type of events and projects like this to please show more respect to me and my community, because I've shown lots of sympathy and cooperation in these various projects and events, but it's become clear to me that their only interest is in using my name. I'll never get over this scene from starstruck, not bc it's hilarious (it is) but bc to me it really like. exemplifies trust at the table? Bc the moment Brennan (as the npc) asks: "You've got a mouth?" of course everyone at the table immediatly assumes this npc is hitting on Riva creepily. Which.... I mean there might be games where an npc creepily hitting on the incredibly naive, barely an adult by the standarts of their species, Riva would be appropriate but it doesn't really fit with the general vibe of stody or even D20 as a whole. And most players (and viewers) probably wouldn't be comfortable with that. The shocked reaction from the table is totally appropriate, in fact if someone (especially Siobhan) called for a timeout and went what the fuck Brennan, what are you doing, they'd be perfectly justified.

But they don't do that. Siobhan takes literally like 1 second to process what Brennan just said

then quickly remembers that she trusts him not to actually go anywhere that would be genuinly inappropriate or make her uncomfortable and jumps straight back into character

and she doesn't break or get flustered when Brennan follows it up with "you got a butthole?" either. And of course the punchline of "you can eat sandwiches" is very funny. But it takes trust to even get to that punchline.

It's a simple thing and you might say I'm reading too much into it but idk. It's simple and small and a laugh bc they all trust each other. Siobhan trusts Brennan not to actually bring actual sexual harrassment into their fun silly dnd game and Brennan trusts her to know that and keep going to see where he's going with it.
