Song Review: Ian Hunter feat. Todd Rundgren - “Don’t Tread on Me”

Ian Hunter took a rallying cry of the right and turned it in to a boost for the downtrodden with “Don’t Tread on Me.”

The track from Hunter’s guest-laden Defiance Pt. 1 features Todd Rundgren on background vocals while Hunter handles the lyrics with his raspy voice.

I ain’t looking for charity/and I sure ain’t looking for sympathy/just looking for a chance to be/somebody, somebody, hey/I ain’t no nickel and dime/maybe I’ve fallen out one time/but poverty ain’t no crime/respect is the key/respect is the key/respect is the key/respect is the key/don’t tread on me

It’s not a particularly memorable track; too poppy and too anthemic. But it’s always nice to hear Rundgren singing and the message is one worth hearing.

Bernie Sanders was controlled opposition

Something to make those on the left feel like we had a choice in the matter. Some kind of change from being fucked all the time.

Of course, it was all a ploy. He never played dirty, he let people walk all over him, he made no effort to call out the media like Trump did. If he had acted like Trump but based, he would be at the end of his second term by now.

Instead it’s obvious to me now that he was a plant by the Democratic Party that became way too popular even for them to predict. His rhetoric is much the same as the rhetoric of the Simpsons against Fox — where Fox would willingly allow the Simpsons to rag on them all the time because Fox executives were the ones with the real power to pull the plug at any time. Likewise, the Democrats are okay with people making fun of them as long as the one doing it is someone they have a leash on.

That is what Bernie Sanders is.
