I'm often asked why I don't post more songs by TV legend Dick Emery so I've had to finally give in to the demands with this 1963 cover. I never realised that he was such a strong singer.

While this song ended up on a B-Side for Dick there were previous versions by singers John (The Great Escape) Leyton and Don Charles and it was written by 'Robert Duke', a name used by the troubled producer and songwriter Joe Meek.

A FAIRYTALE

Notes: Its been a while since I wrote about Young Manager! So I'm doing this before continuing my requests hehee

"You mean, none of you haven't seen Y/n-chan ever since the practice earlier?" Isagi asked Yukimiya and Hiori, face contorted in confusion. Usually, you'd be walking around the facility, doing your rounds and chores. But, it had been a few hours since any of the players have seen you and they were starting to get a bit worried.

"It's not usual for her to suddenly be gone. Besides, you know how she doesn't know the word 'rest,' that girl, I swear." Hiori sighed, peeking through any rooms they passed by, to see if you were in any of them, but to no avail.

"It's almost dinner time, and Y/n-chan and some of our teammates are still not here. Ego-san will not be happy." Yukimiya added. As the trio turned a corner, they heard a muffled voice in one of the rooms, the familiar soft voice immediately registering in their heads, that voice was definitely yours.

Sighing in relief that they won't be scolded by Ego tonight, they entered once the automatic door opened to let them in.

"Y/n-chan, dinner is al- Eh?" Isagi, along with Hiori and Yukimiya, can only blink in confusion, taken aback by the rather...unique and odd scene in front of them. The room where Kaiser and Ness were staying in was in a huge mess, with many books scattered, there was even one mini board on the floor with what looks to be mathematical equations written on them.

But the weirdest scenery was what was in the middle of the mess. You sat, criss-crossed on the ground holding what seems to be a children's book of sorts due to the rather whimsical cover as you read the content in a soft voice, similar to that of a mother singing her lullaby. Charles' head was on your lap, head in between your arms that was holding the book as he seemed to be so focused on the book that his little fangs were sticking out.

Bachira was resting his head on your left shoulder, eyes listening to your voice and looking at the book. While on your other shoulder was an uncharacteristically quiet Shidou, who looked to be taken and focused on your voice as well. Ness, meanwhile, sat beside Bachira, listening and peeking at the book with a calm smile too.

Kaiser, Loki and Lorenzo were the most shocking ones in the equation as they were not as clingy to you, but they seemed to be listening to the story, too, yes, Kaiser was bad at hiding his interest.

'This looks like...a daycare.'

The three Bastard Munchen players can only comment in their minds at the scene. To think that these people, who are quite the opponents on the field, with some having questionnable ethics (ehem Shidou, Kaiser and Bachira ehem), can be calmed down by a mere children's story was unbelievable.

They were all hyper-focused on your voice, too. Like your mouth held the tongue of an angel, ready to give them the tales of the future. And so, they were really wondering now; what the hell did they walk into?

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" He chortled in his joy."

Your vouce narrated the poem, trying to mimic a much deeper voice for the supposed persona of the dialogue.

"Huh? What the hell is frabjous?" Charles pointed out at the word, you stopped to try and remember what it meant.

"Hmm, in this context, I think it means joyous. Like that day is a joyous day, Charles."

"Oooh, okay! Continue!"

'Are we statues here?'

Isagi, Hiori, and Yukimiya wondered as it seemed that none of them there noticed the three of them standing in front of the door. Then as if on cue, Bachira turned his head to find the three of them to which his grin only widened as he waved at the trio.

"Isagi! Oh and Yukki and Hiorin too! Join us! Y/n-chan is reading us the Ja-Jawoc...Jawocky..."

"Jabberwocky..." You softly corrected him.

"Right! Jabberwocky!" The male cheered as he went back to resting his body and head against yours, causing you to flinch a bit due to the heaviness. It was not easy to have three males who are probably double your muscle mass resting their body against yours.

"I understand Bachira and the other two. But what are you four of all people doing here?" Yukimiya turned his head to Kaiser, Ness, Lorenzo, and Loki. To which Loki shrugged his shoulders.

"I searched for Charles and Shidou and ended up here. I don't mind it though...the story reminds me of when I was younger!" And it did. He remembered his mother telling him stories ranging from the typical fairytales like Hansel and Gretel or Snow White to the weirdest ones, like Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and the Jabberwocky, the one you were currently reading. The nostalgia was quite heavy, especially now that he's on the other side of the world, feeling homesick at times, because, even if he is a world-class striker, he is still a child at heart, a fact he would never admit to anyone.

"It's our room, idiot. Of course we'll be here." Kaiser rolled his eyes and pointed to Ness and him. But, truthfully, it wasn't just that reason as to why he was there, listening to your words. Growing up, he was not taught how to read, let alone read to by any adult. He has seen those scenes in movies before, but he never experienced that nor did he think he would want that.

But, he kind of liked the soft tone to your voice, the way you ennounciate your words, trying to make impressions on each persona or character of the stories.

It added heaviness to the situation when he remembered that he never went to school and just started learning how to read proper books when he was out of the hell he was once in. So, classics like fairytales were something he did not know of. He would even quip questions about the story and some words he does not understand of, partially because most of the words and ideas were so silly in his mind.

Did adults think kids are that stupid? Although, even if it was stupid...it was entertaining and well, warming. Naive, yes, but not offending. Was this the childhood of those other kids? He was someone who did not dwell on the past, but he still could not help but wonder.

Ness, on the other hand, was the opposite. He was someone who would tear up at even the memory of his rough past. He grew up being alienated and deprived of love by his family just because he believed in something they did not. The books you were currently holding was his, a stash he hid and bought with him to this stupid facility to kill time.

But instead of tearing it apart like his siblings would have done, you took it seriously, reading it happily to him and the others. It felt so satisfying...so joyful to see that the girl he loved was more than happy to support and take his love and belief in something impossible, instead of making fun of him and shunning him out like the people of his past.

"Heh, what's wrong with a lil sprinkly sparkle in your life every once in a while?" Lorenzo smirked, shrugging at Yukimiya before turning hisbhead to face you again.

Like with Kaiser, life has not been kind to a young Lorenzo. He has not been imparted any books of those kind, nor was he even given the chance to get an education. How would he, when he did not even have enough money for a few bread scraps? In life, you need to sacrifice, and for him, survival was the definite better option than some paper and a chance to wear some sort of ugly toga.

But, he would be lying if he said he was not curious what it would feel like to have grown up in a normal place, a normal environment with normal people who do not struggle financially? To have learned how to read better than what his current skill is due to his lack of education. To know any references or fairytail the others would inquire you about, due to the familiarity of the story. He wondered how it feels to have that privilege of familiarity.

But, he digressed. The past is the past, and dwelling on it was just the shittiest way to live. He was here for a good time, for God's sake!

"Geez..." Hiori sighed as he watched your cheeks plump up mainly because of the hugs Bachira, Shidou and Charles gave you, squeezing your cheeks along with it which made him let out a low chuckle. God, were you just adorable.

"C'mon Y/n-chaaaan! Read the next story!"

"But, Shidou-san, dinner is about to-"

"We can eat dinner later, Y/n! You can continue reading!" Charles encouraged as he looked up at you from your lap, a mischievous grin on his face matching that of Shidou's and Bachira's.

You can only sigh at the three's childlike brhaviour before relenting.

"Okay, one more story then we eat, okay?"

In the end, the one story became five as Hiori, Yukimiya, and Isagi also joined in on the fairytale marathon you gave them.

ADDITIONAL TIME!

• BACHIRA saw Ness' books un this and asked you to read the first story, Cinderella to them, since he thought your voice fitted the beautiful maiden in the story. Like Loki and Charles, he missed his home and his mother's voice, remembering the nights where he would sleep next to her on her bed as she would lull him to sleep with mindless stories about fairytales and mystical wonders that let his mind go wild.

• CHARLES, having to grow up with so many siblings, has always had to share the attention of his parents, hence why he is a bit touch and attention starved. That included the bedtime stories and many pleasantries before bed, having to give up that privilege at a young age because of his younger siblings coming into the picture. So, he loved that he got to rekindle those memories and with you of all people in the midst of it!

• SHIDOU is not a believer of magic nor fairytales. He hates it, the impossible to him is something that can be broken apart by anyone, but magic was not the impossible that he believes in. Magic was just plain unethical, not true, fictional. Completely different in his brain. But, your voice was quite pleasant to listen to, and for the first time ever, he was willing to sit down and listen to a dumb fairytale, just to hear you.

This became a lil too angsty than I thought it would be LMAO

"Y/N!!!!"

You were tackled with a hug that almost knocked the wind out of you. There were times like these where you remembered that Bachira was like the rest of the players in the facility, absolutely tall and built.

"Um...hi, how may I help you..?"

"Nothing! I just wanted to hug you!! You don't visit our stratum much anymore hmp!!"

He pouted, arms still around your neck as he happily cheered and tattled whatever was in his mind away. Seeing the excited look in Bachira's eyes made you quite happy and a bit guilty if you were to interrupt with whatever he was saying, so you nodded your head at whatever he was saying, even if it does not make sense at times.

As he talked, arms still around you, you started to let your eyes wonder about his features. You never noticed it, but the yellow in his hair was really bright and matched his pretty eyes. You think deep down that everyone has really pretty eyes, but the ones in the Blue Lock's facility take the cake, the variety of colors are all comparable to literal gems.

Bachira's looked like one of an amber, one preserved after so many years because of its shine and beauty. But it's not just beautiful but resilient as well, surviving whatever weather, temperature or disaster may occur around it. And it's not that far from Bachira's own story.

As you thought deeper, you then noticed how the black part of his hair mixed well with his yellow hair and eyes. He looks like a honeybee! Or even a-

"Bumblebee..." You ditzily whispered, not knowing you said it outloud, and unfortunately for you, Bachira heard it too.

"Eh? What did you say, Y/n-chan?" He tilted his head, his arms loosening a bit around your neck. Your ears and cheeks immediately flushed in embarrassment thay you said something so embarrassing out loud without a thought.

'Stupid Y/n...'

"Aww cmon Y/n-chan! What was it?"

"I..I said...you looked like a honeybee...I mean...I think you look closer to a bumblebee because of your personality! And because bumblebees are so chubby and cute and-" you covered your mouth, catching yourself talking too much again. There were moments like these where you would forget that you were talking to someone and you needed to filter out your words, and would instead talk their ears off with your unfiltered thoughts.

But, instead of being mad like you thought, Bachira's cheeks turned really pink before he hugged you even tighter than before.

"Aww Y/n-chan!! You're so cuteeee!! I like that nickname so much! I like it!" He cheered, jumping around as his arms were still around you making you a bit dizzy, before blinking at his words.

"Really? You don't mind I called you bumblebee?"

"Nope! I like it! Say, say, do you have nicknames like that for the others?" He asked, his smile still wide and the same but his eyes held some sort of hidden agenda. And he desperately wished that you only had a nickname for him and no one else.

"Uh nope! It just came out of me...!"

With that answer, his eyes became even brighter. He felt really special that you called him that, especially since bumblebee sounded so cute in his ears, giving him tingles on his heart.

"Sooo can you start calling me Bumblebee instead of Bachira-san?" He said excitedly, and you, being so oblivious at his hidden agenda immediately nodded at the idea. After all, you liked cute things and cute nicknames to your friends made you so happy and satisfied.

"Okay! You're my bumblebee from now on, Bachira-san!"

"Yay! I'm your bumblebee!!"

What you did not expect however was the reaction that the supposed innocent and cute nickname you gave the yellow and brown-haired striker.

You currently joined the boys in eating their lunch. Every Sunday, all the boys would share a cafeteria to eat lunch together for the sanitization of the other's they use everyday and for better bonding moments too (althoug Ego hides the latter reason). Picking your food tray, you tried to find a good spot to sit and enjoy your food. As always most of the tables had a vacant seat (which most would leave open in hopes you'd choose their table and sit with them).

But, before you can find a seat, you found Bachira entering the cafeteria and him being him, immediately ran to you and greeted you. He looked to be happier than he usually is, and he was. Deep down, Bachira was quite happy and flustered at the nickname you gave him. Even if a few hours had passed and training had done and went, he still could not keep it off his mind.

He really liked the way your tongue said his name, but the tone, the sheepish mutter of the word "bumblebee," calling to him and him alone made him feel so jittery and excited in a different way that he ever felt before.

"Hi Y/n-chan!!"

"Hi Bachira-san! Are you going to eat yet?"

"Awww...why did you call me that?"

He pouted at you, a little disappointed that you did not call him the nickname you gave him. Mostly because he really did like it and wanted you to call him that always, but also because he knew that the rest of the boys were listening and wanted you to call him thay in front of them to indirectly tell them that he was really special to you.

Tilting your head, you were a little confused as to what he was talking about until you remembered the conversation you had with him earlier. Your eyes brightened at the memory and looked a bit apologetic for forgeting.

"Oh, I forgot...'m so sorry, Bachira-san- I mean, my bumblebee!"

Crickets and silence.

That was all that was heard in the cafeteria the moment you called Bachira the nickname. The conviction and softness in your voice when you called him along with the sweet meaning that the nickname held, with the addition of the 'my' in the beginning made it feel so personal and possessive.

It can even be a nickname one gives to their significant other. And that did not sit right with them.

"Eh..? Did I say something wrong?" You wondered as you sat beside Bachira in the large table most of your friends sat in, yes even people like Rin, Barou and Kunigami who didn't think they were 'friends.'

"No fair, why does he get a nickname, while I don't Y/n-chan?" Nagi said from the other side of your chair as he rested his head on your shoulder, looking up at you with his sleepy eyes that held some sort of hidden conviction and annoyance.

"Yeah, Nagi's right, Y/n-chan! I want a nickname too!" Hiori raised his hand.

"Me too! Me too!" Kurona pitched softly.

"When did you even start calling Bachira that, Y/n-chan?" Isagi asked, feeling the familiar green face of jealousy. The question made you smile softly, because you thought that the nickname was just for friends, finding it absolutely adorable.

"I was talking with Bachira-san earlier this morning, and I kinda uttered how he looked like a bumblebee because bumblebees are so cute, fuzzy and chubby and his personality feels like one! So we agreed his nickname from me will be bumblebee from now on. Isn't it cute?" The happy and satisfied look in your face lessened the annoyance they felt to the brunette striker who just ate happily beside you.

"Yeah, cute." Rin said, his tone hid a sassy and annoyed tone.

"Can I still get a nickname, Y/n-chan?" Nagi asked, his stubbornness shining through at such a trivial thing. But to him, it was less than trivial. He wanted a personalize nickname from you, one that felt special to him especially because it was coming from you.

"Eh really? Um okay...uh you can be Ice Bear from We Bare Bears! You remind me of him, Nagi-san!" You offered with a bright smile. Finding his snow white hair, tall build and lazy personality mirroring the cute bear character.

Nagi seemee satisfied enough with the nickname, finding it endearing, but most especially because it came from you.

"Yay...I'm your Ice Bear."

Everyone else frowned at that, even Bachira who wanted to be the only one who had a nickname. But, hey he was not selfish like thay so he just continued eating.

And with that, the rest of the guys on the table started to ask you for nicknames too. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, you felt so happy and excited in giving them the silliest and cutest nicknames your mind can think of. You feel like your inner kid (that you lack) was brought out by the moment, and well, you loved your friends so you were more than happy to give each of them a nickname!

"Um...Rin-san can be Keroppi...!"

The rest of the boys laughed at the comparison between Keroppi and Rin.

"Rin-chan is not cute at all like Keroppi!" Bachira laughed as the rest agreed, pissing Rin off.

"Hmm, I don't know why I called Rin-san Keroppi, but it just sounds right to me! My Keroppi!" At the final sentence, Rin's full cheeks from his food turned red in a snap, almost choking on his food due to being so flustered and shocked at the nickname.

"Um, and this is ashi which means leg!"

You were currently holding a newspaper that Loki tried reading and explained what some of the worrd meant, since he was curious. But to your suprise, all the foreign players crowded next to you to listen to the explanation. Sure, they were not really thay ready to learn another language altogether, but they were curious and spending time with you at the same time was not exactly a bad combo.

On the field sat Lorenzo, Ness, Charles, Loki and Kaiser around you as you pointed at the words that was foreign to all of them as you slowly explained each of the symbol and what it meant. They were listening, well until Rin entered the field to look for you. And well, you made a mistake in acknowledging him in the new nickname you gave to them infront of the foreign players.

"Oh um sorry, my Keroppi! I'll start doing the laundry later!" As if clockwork anytime you used that word, Rin turned a bright red before leaving the field to try and cool off and try to find a way to not get flustered like a damn fuse everytime you use that nickname.

But, the rest of the players noticed the rather cute nickname and well, they were less than pleased and more envious.

"Ehhh why does Rin-Rin have a cute nickname from you but I don't? Y/n-chaaannn please give me one too!!" Charles said as he clung to your arm.

"Eh..?"

"I agree with the kid, Y/n." Michael said with a smirk. You felt like a trapped mouse under the expecting gaze of the players. Loki noticed this and sighed before hitting Charles's head which made the midfielder let out an 'ow.'

"Don't harass her, you fools. If she wants, she'll give us one. Geez."

"Uh thank you, Loki-san. But it's really fine! I'll give you guys nicknames too!" You started to think for one as they all watched you, then you looked at Charles and fangs when a genius strike hit your head.

"Charles-san can be Meowth from Pokemon!"

"Yey! I'm fine with that! Thank you, Y/n-chan!"

He said as he hugged you even tighter which just made you smile, but when you turned to Kaiser, you remembered a memory about the time Isagi was ranting to you about Kaiser.

"Yeah, and he even has that annoying rat-hair! I hate him SO much, Y/n-chan!"

The word rat repeated in your head, and a character appeared in your head, but before you can filter your thoughts into words, you said what you thought out loud.

"Jaq-jaq from Cinderella."

And well, the entire field ended up in laughter. Loud and hard laughter. Even Ness could not help the chuckle that left his mouth, remembering the familiar mouse character.

And well, that pissed Kaiser a bit. Which made you panic a bit.

"Oh, I'm so sorry Kaiser-san! I just remember Isagi-san calling you a rat and well...it ran in my mind..."

"HAHAHHAA IT FITS! HOLY SHIT IT FITS!" Lorenzo laughed and hugged his stomach which made Kaiser even angrier.

"Shut up! You are more of a rat than I am!"

"I'm sorry! Pfftt-" Loki said as he continued laughing, meanwhile Charles had tears in his eyes from laughter. Was it just from the nickname? Or even from the way you said it with such seriousness and conviction that made them laugh?

"Ehhh 'm so sorry, Kaiser-san..." you said, animated tears running down your face because, well an angry Kaiser was a scary Kaiser.

"Its fine, dear...but if just some of you will shut up!" He said with pointed looks at Lorenzo and Charles.

In the end, you settled with Kaiser being Cinnamoroll in your eyes. Finding his aesthetic and his hair color similar to the color scheme of the cute character.

An examination of unusual features and chains among the 31 volumes released to date. Subject to revision.

Volume 8: Mikage Reo

Reo's chains are noticeably shaded green. Guess whose eyes glow green when they're fired up...

In addition, @thyandrawrites has a theory that Reo ties/reties his hair up as a way to maintain emotional composure. The volume covers tend to represent the character's personality or struggles in some sense. If so, this is an early nod to the emotional trials Reo endures during the series.

Volume 10: Tokmitsu Aoshi

No chain weirdness here, but Tokimitsu is surrounded by black gunk in his cover. This may be a visualisation of his anxiety and the way he copes with it: running at speed and bulldozing through his opponents.

Volume 11: Ego Jinpachi

Ego's cover depicts him totally immobilised by the four chains bound to his neck. To date, no other character has been more restrained by the chains. This likely represents that Ego's fate is utterly dependent on the outcome of Blue Lock. His cover also suggests that Blue Lock (and football) consume Ego's life.

Volume 12: Shidou Ryuusei

Shidou's chains have a blue glow, much like Sendou's in volume 27. This glow is far closer to Shidou's collar however. It could imply that Blue Lock is the beginning of Shidou's pursuit of football.

He's also depicted with demon wings. The collar or chains don't impede his movement significantly, unlike other characters. In addition to portraying his incredible physicality, this could also visually represent how Blue Lock has failed to subdue Shidou.

Volume 16: Oliver Aiku

Aiku's chains are wrapped tightly around his arm and he's pulling them taut. The chains themselves appear rusted and cracked, most notably on his collar. This could represent Aiku's relationship with football. He grew jaded with being a striker in high school. Becoming a defender, then the match against Blue Lock, revitalised his enthusiasm. Hence, the chain is holding fast: he's just as ensnared by football (and Blue Lock) as the others.

Volume 17: Itoshi Sae

Sae and his chains are bathed in radiant gold light, which is associated with both divinity and wealth. His chains crumble in one place, and remain barely intact. I offer two interpretations for this. Firstly: unlike the others, Blue Lock does not have a strong impact on Sae—his success as a footballer is completely independent of it.

Secondly: if we take the chain to represent Sae's footballing career, the crumbling chain could allude to a time when football negatively impacted him. Perhaps whatever happened in Madrid? But he came back stronger, as the rest of his chains appear even more golden.

Volume 18: Teieri Anri

Anri is the only character depicted without chains or a collar. While working with Ego is a prison sentence in its own right, the artwork suggests that her ambition and future isn't connected to the outcome of Blue Lock. It can also be interpreted as a nod to the hierarchy within Blue Lock. Anri is Ego's boss and thus, she is free while he is constrained. However...

Zoom in on the reflection on her phone screen. It appears to reflect a wide grin—which can only be one person's. Taking into account her passivity in chapter 247, this detail positions Anri as Ego's accomplice: willing to do his bidding, no matter how amoral.

Volume 19: Michael Kaiser

Kaiser's collar and chains are made of glass, through which his blue rose tattoo is visible. As chapter 243 told us, a blue rose represents the impossible to Kaiser. Glass chains suggests that his ego or ties to football are fragile, and could be broken easily. Symbolically, glass can also represent transparency. As a character, Kaiser is upfront about his talent and desires. Nobody is in doubt about his footballing mantra or his intent to undermine Isagi.

Volume 20: Alexis Ness

Ness's chains are entwined with blue rose brambles, all but for a short length to the top right of the image. While Ness came to love football independently, seeing it as magical, the rose brambles show that his connection to football is now inseparable from his devotion to Kaiser. It also reflects that Ness would not be a professional footballer without Kaiser, as per chapter 242/243.

Volume 24: Hiori Yo

Hiori is the only character shown holding the end of his chain, which is secured by a football-shaped weight. This suggests that Hiori himself is the one in control of his career, rather than external forces. Football is a burden to him, albeit something he can carry. Therefore, Hiori is not ensnared by the chains (or Blue Lock) to the same extent as other characters. Appropriate for a character guaranteed to succeed as a footballer, but who ultimately may not choose to pursue it.

Volume 25: Niko Ikki

Niko's volume cover is hilarious. I'll leave the explaining to Tomo-tan, who lays out the humour and genius of Niko's cover in this great Reddit post.

Volume 26: Don Lorenzo

Members of the New Generation World XI have no chill when it comes to their covers, and Don Lorenzo is no exception. His collar shows bite marks, as though chewed through. Gold teeth are good for more than caramel popcorn, apparently.

Lorenzo's chains are accompanied by what looks like electricity. This suggests that football reanimated Lorenzo from near death, as per chapter 216. It's a visual nod to his playstyle, which resembles the incessant pursuit of a zombie. Guess we can call him Snuffy's Monster.

Volume 27: Sendou Shuuto

A blue glow appears on Sendou’s chains, halted from travelling further by his fist. This may represent the threat Blue Lock poses to Sendou's footballing career. He's already been kicked as the striker of the national team; now in the Neo Egoist League, he must battle for a place on the new U20 line-up. No easy feat, as his sweaty face implies.

Another detail worth mentioning is that the trajectory of one of Sendou's chains appear to align with the chain Aiku's pulling in his cover. This similarity, and the fact that they're both holding their chains, may be interpreted as a nod to their status as former U20 teammates—likely the only ones that will make the new team, going off the latest NEL auction table.

Volume 29: Nanase Nijiro

Debated adding him, but eh—I wrote up Reo's cover. Nanase's illustration (incl. the chains) is shaded green… similar to Rin's eyes and aura colour. His chain jerks right and left in a nod to his ambidexterity.

Volume 30: Tsurugi Zantetsu

Another gag cover on par with Niko's, albeit less clever (intentionally?). Zantetsu's chain is made of shapes you'd associate with a toddler's learning shapes toy.

Volume 31: Charles Chevalier

Charles's cover is a double whammy. He gets two colours like Aiku, reflecting his capricious nature. Gold and metallic are representative of his high worth. The background spirals are a definite nod to the Cheshire Cat, a character Charles states he likes in an end of volume character profile.

The chains are shaped like the devil emojis that appear in Charles's dialogue. The chains also feature two materials: an alternating light and dark metal with no evident pattern. This perhaps represents the way his passes are hit or miss, or the way he decides who to send passes to on a whim.
