Maverick has zero (0) concept of personal space, like Ice could just be showering, and boom! Here comes Mav, busting the door down and strolling in, going something along the lines of:

But then after a while, it just becomes a common domestic thing that happens. Mav hands Ice a towel (sometimes he'll pull one from the dryer so it's nice and warm) when he turns the water off and passes him whatever he needs from the counter before following Ice from the bathroom into their bedroom where Mav will flop onto the bed and continue whatever story or conversation he's started while Ice dresses.

The Polaroid Mav took of Ice one early morning as he talked to Slider on the phone. He tucked it in his wallet as soon as it developed fully and stares at it to remind himself of the love he’s come to know. He looks at it on bad days, running his fingers over the wrinkles and memorizes the smile he’s come to fall in love with every day.

He tucks it in plain sight of his plane before every mission and promises to come home to that face for the rest of his life, kissing it before going up in the air and kissing it when he lands. When he comes home each time, Ice is there with that same bright smile and open arms, pulling him in for a sweet kiss and the promise of forever.

Firm believer that Ice was never in denial about Mav being hot - from the minute he met him, he knew Mav was hot, but he also knew he was cocky af so it kinda cancels out and leaves him just being annoying. Sometimes, the biggest problem in the Kazansky-Mitchell household is the dishwasher that isn't clear as it should. The pair of red underwear with white shirts that makes everything pink and as Ice laughing for days and then he puts on the same shirt to go to important meetings because it's such an inconsequential thing buy makes him happy and as Mav texting all day with scenario's of how different people are going to react to that new color. And sometimes it's no more milk in the fridge, one egg instead that two so no homemade pancake Mav! just to be solved by so I can take you out for a breakfast date, Kazansky?

I headcanon Ice as having long bouts of insomnia, especially when he’s not deployed and isn’t forced to stick to a very regimented military sleep schedule. He’s always getting up in the night and wandering, deciding he needs to do the dishes he forgot the evening before or sorting the bookshelves cos it really makes more sense if they’re alphabetical.

It drives Maverick nuts because he’s not good at sleeping alone, he needs the steady breathing of Ice next to him or his heartbeat against his ear. So when they’re trying to get their baby daughter Sofia into a sleep schedule, it gives Mav an idea.

So it’s dinner, bath time then pyjamas every night in the same order for little Sofia. And she gets one story and one song then they’ll hold her in the rocking chair Viper donated to them because his kids outgrew it years ago. And when she’s nodded off, she goes in her crib.

And then Mav’s like okay, you go shower, I’ll make you a tea. Then Ice finds the shirt and shorts laid out on the bed. Then it’s exactly an hour of TV before Mav says they should go upstairs now. Then Mav offers to brush his hair before bed.

It’s like three days of this before Ice is like…….hey wait a minute.

Maverick has nowhere to be and he’s gotten good at turning off his internal clock on days he can sleep in. The sun streaming through the window onto the bed gives him a general sense of the time so he’s not surprised when he sees Ice exit the bathroom, towel wrapped around his waist. Mav offers a sleepy smile in answer to Ice’s quiet good morning, and settles back into his pillow to watch Ice dress. He makes no attempt to keep his eyes from roaming across Ice’s body when Ice’s towel drops to the floor, a pleasant heat settling in his belly at the sight of Ice’s long, lean body. Ice is efficient when he dresses, and precise, nothing out of place as he pulls his uniform on. Maverick’s learned to expect nothing less, but watching Ice move through his routine hasn’t gotten old. None of this has - their combined scent mingling in the sheets, the simple domesticity of their lives, the knowledge that he and Ice continue to choose each other. It didn’t come easily or without risk and all of it is worth it, for this life they built.

“I see you watching me, Mav,” Ice says, humor in his voice as he straightens his collar.

“Never gonna stop, Kazansky,” he replies, leering for effect. It’s true, though. For ten years he hasn’t been able to take his eyes off Ice and he can’t imagine that ever changing. He says as much, when Ice leans over the bed to kiss Mav goodbye. It’s a soft, lingering kiss - one that could turn to more if they had the time. Reluctantly, he lets Ice pull away, to head to work. He sinks back into the sheets already thinking of how he’ll welcome Ice home that night.

Another timeline before i get into it ✌️ they met at top gun obvi and hooked up after the layton rescue, mav went back to top gun (for 3 months) but still kept in touch with ice, mav finally confessed years later it was like 1995-2000, they went through a bit of a rough patch after that but they did make up and started their relationship, mav became a test pilot in 2006 and ice stopped flying around then too
