It’s official.
I am taking things to the next level, and helping others do the same.

Behind the Lens: Trigger
Imari Anderson is known for thinking outside of the box. When pairing up with his creative and romantic partner, Mona May, the reality begins to set in that collaboration is a beautiful thing that often creatives take for granted. The ability to pull energy from another and create something larger is what this project, Trigger, was manifested into. When you watch, you will be triggered by emotions, passion, confusion, pondering of everything you thought you knew, but most of all, you will be challenged.
That is the idea and vision behind this project.
What inspired the concept behind Trigger?
Mona May: It was a decision to collaborate. That was the first moment.
Imari Anderson: And we said "let's go on a walk and we'll see what comes up." And we started talking about physiology.
M: we started talking about macroshots, and contrast
I: and we started talking about settings, like black space
M: and we started talking about unexpected twists
I: Race
M: Gender…we didn't talk about all of that then?!
I: We did!
M: Ah yea! Because we talked about urban aesthetic and score, and how that would be driving the piece to kind of give you an impression to kind of what you were seeing, and that the ending would kind of throw you.
“The main concept was born from the desire to explore the physiology of the flight or fight response of the body and how often moments of decision can be mistaken for protecting emotions (i.e. fear versus excitement.)”
What was the creative process like with actually bringing that concept to life?
I: We were very excited on the first day when we were putting it together. We didn't want the project to fizzle out. We wanted to see it through to manifestation. So, we did a lot of pre visualizations on that day, and probably for like 2-3 weeks…and stressing on all the little things. It was fun because it was…
M: it was fun, question mark?
I:*chuckles* the creative process was at times, strenuous.
M: The creative process itself wasn't strenuous. I feel like the logistical process was strenuous. All of the details of like you said bringing the project to life. It's one thing to have like free imagination reign and let yourself go off on like whatever the tangent is but you have to ground that with the actual scenes we need to film, and all the specifics. It can be kind of tense.
I: We were both in a place where the ideas were paramount for both of us. There were times when we were questioning where is this idea coming from?
M: and is it relevant to what we're trying to create?
Was there a game plan for what you wanted to happen once this project was released?
I: Not really. We just wanted to get this bad boy out.
M: We wanted as many people to see the video as possible
I: So to all 17 of those viewers, thank you!
M: We have 19 now
I: I watched it twice today.
It's really more like 6,000 now.
I: The game plan going forward, it would be nice to use it as a calling card to pursue other creative projects In this creative vein and having something to show for past experience.
What do you want people to gain from watching this?
M: I would like people to gain some brain cells
I: *laughs*
M: Any perspective, and the concept of seeing something you've never seen before. It's always interesting to see something very unique. As humans, it's us evolving.
I: I kind of want people to lose something. Like if they're standing on top of a bunch of bricks, and your bricks are preconceived notions of what life has taught you and what you receive from life, I kind of hope this video will yank one of the bricks out.

Who to Watch: BINACT
Candice Johnson is a force to be reckoned with.
Her passion for music is what fuels her blog, @butimnotacriticthough or BINACT.
But don’t get it twisted, she’s NOT a music critic.
But if you ask her what she thinks about a few tunes, you may just get a little more than: “it’s a bomb track” or “I liked the cd.” She’ll tell you all you need to know about an artist that could convert you right after the conversation.
I’ve watched this blog grow into something powerful -- from her own ventures to music concerts to sharing her friends works, to fan girling over her mainstream music favorites.
Don’t take my word for it --
there’s lots to explore on her brand new website, so check it out!

beauty and business: a perfect match
“Trust your journey.”
I’ve always heard this statement…and it’s always kept me on the right path towards my most greatest passions.
But hearing it on a Saturday morning, over mimosas and breakfast table conversations with other beautiful, empowering, business minded women, it meant something.
What’s even better?
The quote was stated by an empowering male.
On Saturday morning on the 15th of October, I finally got to attend the Peekaboo Pretty Girl Foundation’s annual beauty and business brunch.
I have tried, and failed, to attend this event for the past two years, even scoring a FREE ticket to the event just last year. But God always has His timing in order.
The year 2016 has been a year of new beginnings, breakdowns, break throughs, and confirmation.
After coming off of the awakening of my favorite icon’s album, “A Seat at the Table,” I truly felt empowered, and more than happy to have a seat at the Beauty and Business Brunch table.
Having attended a large university, and an SEC football one at that, I realize opportunities don’t just come your way, you have to make them. You have to say, “this is my chance, my time, and everything that I could ever do needs to happen now,” and be intentional about your words becoming actions.
Every panelist had a unique vision, dream, and purpose. I learned something refreshing and new from each individually, but together, they were a power team.
Some of my favorite moments came from quotes of transparency –
“embrace change, embrace pain, embrace where you are.”
“find solace in wherever you are, even the pain.”
“be authentic.”
I think sometimes we get caught up in the idea that if we aren’t making thousands of dollars, if we don’t have the newest clothes or items, if we aren’t putting out content as consistently or getting our ideas off of the ground as fast as others, then we truly aren’t doing anything, and that is NOT the case.
Everyone’s journey is their journey.
If a person’s lifestyle was meant for you, you would have it.
We forget to be individualistic many times in the way we approach life and making decisions that will directly impact us and what it is that we want.
Those quotes were confirmation for me that I am exactly where I need to be, running at the exact pace that I need to run, doing the very thing that I’m destined to do, even if the results are different from others.
It also confirms that there will be lots of changes that will come my way. And that they need to be embraced instead of looked over.
The next chapter:
“I don’t want anything that isn’t for me.”
The epitome of a lesson I had to learn this year.
At one point, I was caught up on the things that other people had or were accomplishing that I thought less of myself in the process.
I thought for a long time that I wasn’t capable of doing what I always said I would – inspiring people, educating and connecting people through The Conqueror Movement, creating a name for myself through my works and creativity. All because I wasn’t making the strides that everyone else was. I wasn’t doing the things that everyone else did.
I had a conversation with one of my friends this past Saturday, and during that talk, I had an epiphany.
Everyone’s journey is different. The breakthrough that they have was meant for them specifically because it was time for them to finally receive that blessing. You never know what a person has gone through to get there.
What that means is that your journey will look very different from the one you aim to emulate. They may be receiving many breakthroughs at once, but keep in mind – you don’t know their story.
Many people go through things in life that we couldn’t even have imagined we could ever go through. So what success looks like for them is getting out of that place. How can you envy getting out of a place you haven’t even gone through yet?
Coming into self:
How well do you know yourself?
This past year, I had to spend time with myself, and I mean real quality time with myself.
I had to learn everything about who I am and that there is always room for growth.
I’ve come a long way.
Everyone has as story, what’s yours?

Behind the Lens - Revolution
- from the lens of @nebulonxross
Many saw anger, hurt and unrest.
But what was captured was confusion, questions, community and sympathy.
Police brutality is very real.
But this story wasn’t created for police bashing, or anything that you think it may be geared towards.
It’s about the inevitable happening anytime, anywhere, and the realization that things can always happen in your neighborhood at anytime.
Who would’ve thought that we would experience a national unrest as this in the Carolinas?
We’ve focused on the impact for so long, but barely focused on the act of actually combating it.
In everything that you have a passionate belief in, your voice needs to be heard.
Whether you walk to cry, are setting up meetings with officers in your city for dialogue, or just need a place of release for the anger you feel, there’s a place for it all in a way that will bring about the change we’ve prayed to see.
They saw anger,
they reported riots an looting were the faults of Blacks on the streets solely because of our anger.
But how can you explain anger of this caliber to someone who hasn’t had a reason to fight to exist?
Perspective.
It’s far from over, and there’s still so much more left to do.
