Summary: Kili needs advice and the only person he can thin to as his uncle, his uncle who may look mean and gruff, but who is the biggest softy when it comes to his husband Bilbo.

Maybe Thorin can help settle Kili's nerves After all, he and Bilbo have always made it work.

Thorin Oakenshield was the last person most people would think of for relationship advice. He was gruff, quiet, and fiercely protective in the most intense way. He was the man who could silence a room with just a glance. But Kíli knew better than most. Kili knew that Behind the dwarf’s hardened exterior was a man who had built a life of love with someone unexpected. With a hobbit of all beings. Thorin and Bilbo had weathered more storms than most couples had even dreamed of. In the beginning, it had been practically scandalous. Both were as close to aristocrats as their races got. Barely more than boys, Thorin at 84 and Bilbo at 29 and yet they hadn’t cared. They had found one another and refused to let go.

Was gonna point out that as much as I love the Thorin and Bilbo raising Frodo together trope, it doesn't make any sense because canonically Bilbo only adopted Frodo when he was already in his tweens, but then I remembered that canonically Thorin is dead and Bagginshield do not live the domestic cottagecore husband life in the Shire at all

A heartbeat he didn’t have, and he hated contemplating the thought of Bilbo’s body joining that silence one day. “You’re perfect…” Bilbo murmured, nuzzling against Thorin even tighter. “Nice and cool.” His own personal ice pack and source of comfort as a hand began to rake through his hair. “We could stay like this forever, and I’d be happy, I think…” Forever…?

Domestic Bagginshield either in the Shire or Erebor is always amazing. I tend to come down on the Erebor side cos

a) Thorin fking deserves it like come on

b) consort Bilbo who is charming but also so politically savvy (once he gets his head around dwarven customs)

c) dwarven customs all the fricking way. So much need.

d) we know Bilbo has been an outcast in the Shire; they do not deserve him (or sweet domestic Thorin)

e) the dwarves loving Bilbo. Like yeah some xenophobic pricks, but overall he’s a hero, he’s cute, he makes their (formerly grumpy) king smile, and he will stop and talk to everyone

Like don’t get me wrong; Shire AUs are so beautiful, but I just love Bilbo coming out of his shell with the dwarves and Thorin finally being able to step into the role he’s been working and fighting for his whole life.

I had this thought awhile back but Thorin is not popular amongst the dwarves (he only got 13 of them to follow him), and Bilbo is not popular amongst hobbits (the loner bachelor of Bag End). So I really need Bilbo in Erebor/Reshirement fics where they thrive in each other’s societies.

Bilbo was born to be Consort under then mountain, and everyone loves him! The Council appreciates his polite but firm negotiation tactics and this hobbit has a good head for business. And the people love how friendly and personable he is every time he comes to market. They don’t see many royals who remember their mother’s favorite caserole recipe after all. And by extension, Thorin gains popularity because he can’t be all bad if he managed to land such a little charmer.

Likewise, I need hobbit wives tripping over themselves to get to the forge to see the tall, silent, stunningly beautiful new blacksmith and did you hear he used to be royal? How did Bilbo Baggins land that hot piece of ass? And of course Bilbo has made him so nervous over all the different rules in hobbit society that most of the time Thorin merely nods and smiles at him, and isn’t that cute? He’s shy. So they naturally take him under their wing, inviting him to afternoon teas to fatten him up, and Thorin thinks all Shire food is amazing so he’s quick to offer up his compliments on their cooking which nearly sends them swooning. And of course the male hobbits want to be jealous, but Thorin is fair in price and his work is immaculate and he wears Bilbo’s flowers proudly so he’s certainly not straying from Master Baggins, he’s just very charming and they can’t begrudge him that.

Like Bilbo and Thorin should make each other better. And certainly it doesn’t have to be “everyone loves them and there’s never any problems”, but I just feel like it should be a deal of “FINALLY! I’ve been a duck out of water for so long and this is clearly where I belong.”

Bagginshield Fic Rec

I can’t believe I’ve had such an intense revival into The Hobbit Fandom after being obsessed with the movies when they came out just over 10 years ago now. There’s just some fandoms that have consistently amazing fanfics that are written beautifully and with such interesting concepts.

Some of these are a bit silly and cracky but i think that’s the appeal of The Hobbit, it’s a bit more cheerful than LOTR (vehemently ignoring Battle of the Five Armies)

The enduring charm of Bagginshield has always captivated me. Perhaps it's the humorous serendipity of their initial encounter in Bag End. Or maybe it's the slow, simmering development of their bond as they journeyed together. The way they deeply thought of each other, even in their darkest moments, is just truly...lovely. The endless possibilities of what their relationship could have been and what it has become are endlessly hurting yet fascinating.

Anyway, I live in fiction. Thorin Oakenshield, the proud King under the Mountain, living a domestic life with his beloved husband, Bilbo Baggins. The end.

Golden Hearts Bleed Faster

Bilbo Baggins, Prince of the Shire, has been left with a kingdom on his back and a ring in his hand after the unexpected death of his parents. Bodyguard Thorin Oakenshield has been brought in to see to the prince’s safety, and do a little investigating of his own on the matter in hopes of coming face to face with the one who turned his mountain, and his life, upside down some years prior.

Chapter 3

“You’re welcome to cozy up with me in the reading nook if you get bored,” Bilbo hummed playfully, flashing a grin and twirling his fork between his fingers. “I tell great stories that may even captivate you, Mister Oakenshield.”

“Fairytales of trolls and dwarves?” Thorin drawled, rolling his eyes and letting the sultry pass that came his way pass him by. Not to say it didn’t illuminate that small dose of warmth to his cheeks even more. “Rain check.” Gesturing to the window at the pitter-patter of actual rain to accompany his words, Thorin was grateful their chatty breakfast had fallen to silence, just as it usually did. A little banter, and sometimes nothing at all. It was comfortable, to a certain extent.

This was still a job, and no matter how cozy or domestic it felt, Thorin was keeping everyone and everything at a professional, arm’s length, distance.

Bagginshield 2024: Khuzdûl

It was a typical evening in Bag End.

Young Frodo had run off to the pub, leaving Bilbo and Thorin to “totter around the house like a pair of ancient wizards,” as Bilbo was fond of putting it. He was currently at his writing desk, quill in hand and fingertips stained in ink as he scribbled on his latest project, a Sindarin to Westron dictionary that would be useful for Shire-folk. From the fireside seat where he sat idly plucking at his harp, Thorin could see the ink smudges on his dear hobbit’s lips and cheek, sure signs that Bilbo was deep in thought.

Thorin’s fingers froze on the harp strings when Bilbo suddenly turned to him and, with a bright smile, called out “Thîr vain chîn darn thulen!”

“What… What was that, my love?” said Thorin, sitting back from the harp and turning towards Bilbo.

“Thîr vain chîn darn thulen,” said Bilbo a bit slower, although it still meant less than a bit of rock in a miner’s hand to Thorin. “It’s a Sindarin phrase meaning ‘you are so lovely you stop my breath,’ or perhaps ‘you are a breathtaking beauty.’ But that translation still doesn’t perfectly convey the awe in the original Sindarin…”

Bilbo began muttering, once again turning back to his writing, and Thorin watched him for a moment, bemusement warring with affection in his heart. He supposed Bilbo’s love for words was similar to his own love for jewels and skillful craftsmanship, but flowery language wasn’t anything he himself understood. Words should be practical, solid, and useful, like those in Khuzdûl: Ibinê, my gem. Bunnel, Treasure above all treasures. Âzyungal, my One. How lovely and straightforward these words were, and so fitting for one as precious to him as Bilbo.

Thorin was startled from his thoughts as Bilbo whirled around in his chair again. “I’ll bet in Khuzdûl, you call those you love something like ‘precious gems.’”

Thorin tensed, wondering for a brief moment if Bilbo had somehow acquired the ability to read his mind somewhere along their travels.

Bilbo evidently took his tension another way, chuckling as he said “I suspect I’m right, but don’t worry, my dear. I won’t let this knowledge slip to anyone. I swear it on the fullness of my pantry and the hairiness of my toes. And that’s a promise that means something to a Hobbit, just so you know.”

Thorin’s shoulders untensed slightly. “Of course I trust you, Bilbo, and it’s not as if you actually know the Khuzdul word. I just hope you can understand that this is the one thing I cannot share with you, even though everything else is freely yours.”

“Oh, hush, Thorin. Of course I understand. I wouldn’t want you to speak your secret language to me any more than I’d expect you to ask me to freely give away my mother’s spoons. I may be your husband but I’m not a dwarf, and it just won’t do.”

“Well, I may not be able to speak Khuzdul with you, but may I sometimes call you ‘Treasure of my treasure’?”

Bilbo’s teasing grin turned soft. “That will do very well, my dear.”

I'm late!!! Oh, well. Here's the first of a series of mini-fics I've been working on, trying to get motivated to write something again. Since dwarves keep their language a secret from anyone who's not dwarvish, I wondered how Bilbo would deal with that. And of course, domestic fic because I want these two to be happy!

Hah, Eru, you don't make it easy. Sounds like something soft and wholesome, but with a painful twist to it? Like "the good stuff I wanted, but not the pain that came with it".

I must say the first idea that comes to my mind is Bagginshield one, which would be a tale of Bilbo "domesticating" Thorin one good, peaceful meal at the time, with the last one being the painful one right before Thorin kicks him out of the mountain (that would be the knives), the entire story following the movies' canon, with the bad ending included. With the obligatory Thorin Death Scene canon diverged into "I loved sharing meals with you, Mr Baggins". You know. Pain (insert here an unfunny joke about bread and French).

Bagginshield Week is fast approaching!

We’re less than a week away from the beginning of Bagginshield Week 2023, keep reading to find out everything you may need to know and remember!

All kinds of platonic, romantic and sexual relationships between Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield are welcomed, included open relationships, so long as they are the focus. Likewise, all canons and headcanons are accepted!

All mediums are allowed, included mixed media, and there is no official minimum that your work must fill! Also, all ratings and warnings and such are accepted, so long as you tag accordingly!

Two prompts are given for each day of the event as well as two alternate prompt lists, and you can use as many of them, combine any of them as you wish, I only ask that you mention which ones you’re using in any specific work. You can also make as many works as you want/can.

Hey there! I was wondering if you had any favorite festive Bagginshield fics! Modern Christmas or Hanukkah or Thanksgiving, or Hobbit-era Yule or harvest festivals... anything that isn't too sad! I'm asking around to different blogs because I have been in a holiday mood lately and want to see what different people have come across!

Oh wow, what a great question! I'll be honest, I haven't read too many of the festive fics myself - this is going to sound weird, I expect, but I only actively seek them out at the right time of year, if that makes sense? But! You're quite right, and 'tis the season, so I'm super excited to see what other folks have recommended, too!

I will say I recently read "Home for the New Year" by the illustrious and ever so clever @chrononautintraining - one of my absolute favourite writers for the Bagginshield fandom. It's an incredibly sweet read, beautifully put together, with lots of domesticity, mutual pining, misunderstandings, willful ignorance from Bilbo, and some very soft and lovely parentshield, in a wonderful reshirement setting 💛 I very highly recommend it if you're looking for something warm and fluffy to keep the cold at bay! (Do mind the rating, though!)

This was a lovely question, I'm sorry I couldnt offer more recs for you. Thank you for including me!
