They want to paint your portrait! For a paying client or some other reason but at this point no asking for $.

You give them a reference photo

They wait a little before sending your photo back to you with a sketch filter applied

At this point (if you don’t have fine arts training or know about sketch filter) you’ll be excited about the detail in the sketch. The portrait is ostensibly for a client but now they have you on the hook for a discounted print. Or perhaps the discounted original when the ‘client’ changes his mind.

If you decide to purchase the painting they might even send you a print with some photo edits to make it look painterly. Or they might take the $ and run. Portrait artists don’t generally approach YOU!

My clients approach me because they’ve seen my work and want a portrait in my style.

I am having a feeling that people from the Captain Laserhawk fandom are underestimating the character of Sam Fisher.😢😢😢😢😢💔💔💔💔💔

I want to blame a bit the serie for that because didn't showed his full capacity and hope in Season 2 it shows more about him and his past because man, there is a lot of plot holes that I want to be answered also that I want to remind that he is a super spy for a reason, a legend that many seems to forget, a Splinter Cell, the first Splinter Cell, one of the most respected and feared agent that the old Eden (USA) got, a guy who take out enemies using the shadows and darkness as his main weapons, his trifocal goggles being his iconic signature, just because the developers nerfed his legs, that's didn't stopped him on infiltrating inside the VR super prison to rescue Marcus Holloway, guards understimated him because of being disabled and yet they got their asses kicked with not many effort, even if the final guy got him for a second, in the end he got the upper hand.

After that, with Marcus, both planned the attack of the Wastelands, he was the strategist of the insurgents that brough a lot of troubles to Eden

and perhaps was showed that he was "killed" in the Wasteland battle, but how one can know if it wasn't a bluff from Marcus to made Sarah feel guilty for what she did to him, also we only "saw" Marcus supposed "POV", but Sam's body was never retrieved and him being able to contact Dolph in that "Undertale" limbo place, how Sam knew Dolph?

Did he retrieved some information from Eden before? Or was just coincidence? (Something that I don't believe, there is not coincides), there is more than meets the eye I can see that and really, really hope this gets answered because man, everytime I see the episodes again and again, I get questions and more questions, also what will happen to Marcus, if he denied Sarah offer, will he be killed or someone will be able to save him on time?

And about Bullfrog and Ramon, Bullfrog will be able to escape that "Retribution Day"sentence, because the last scene was him being tied in that electric chair and that fake Rayman postponing the death sentence, Ramon will rescue the frog? There is not many survivors in this situation and I hope this questions can be answer, but still my big concern is about the whereabouts of Sam, Dolph and Sarah and Marcus, what will be the final draft to this retro cyberpunk adventure? Man I am sounding like those old TV cartoons, but you get what I mean, we need answers and hope we get them this year or to the next one.🥺🥺🥺🥺🙏🙏🙏🙏💔💔💔💔

In my heart, I felt as if Rayman is the type of Asian who has trouble with the phrases “I love you” and “I’m sorry”. 🤔

For context, saying “I love you” in Asia is something seen as very weird and uncomfortable (at least in SEA and EA? This goes for everything else I’ll talk about here). Rather, it’s much more preferred to say something like “Have you eaten today?”, “I miss you.” and “Please rest well.”… things like that. But in general, it’s just commonplace to show your love through your actions instead of words.

I feel like Rayman is the type of person to be exactly like this. I can see him saying all that stuff and doing acts of service as a way to express love/respect, a lot of anything besides “I love you.” (ヽ´ω`) I mean, it’s cute imagining him stumbling over trying to say it aha.

Well, he’s a popular figure who is admired by many, so he’s also heard it many times before. But the “he” that receives that type of affection is one behind a facade, so I guess in that context it can also come off as superficial.

As for saying “I’m sorry”, this phrase is very different in Asia as opposed to the West. Asia lives off of a very hierarchical society. This is something that’s very veryyyyy slowly dying out, especially in younger generations, but basically it’s unthinkable to imagine someone “higher in rank” saying sorry to someone lower. Rather, if someone in a higher rank yells at you, you surely upset them, right?! So it should be your job to fall to your knees and apologise… that’s basically how it goes. If someone higher in rank pisses you off, you’re supposed to just brush it off and pretend like nothing happened. You’re basically just asking for a death sentence if you ask them for an apology, no matter how kind you word it.

In the West, saying sorry is usually something more akin to mild to moderate empathy. So, I guess if I were to put it, saying sorry in Asia is like saying “I admit that I’m in the wrong and I’ll accept any form of punishment that happens to me. I deserve nothing but the absolute worst.”.

Funnily, this is actually something that happens in Captain Laserhawk. Rayman disrespects two people seen as people being in a higher position than him and faces punishment. Also with the whole grovelling apology to someone higher in rank than him, being forced to push hurtful things under the rug, being seen as the one in the wrong since he’s lower, etc… Even not being able to express being mad over something extreme without facing pushback.

Well, actually, I feel like Rayman partakes in both of these types of sorry. There’s something about him being seen as the lowest for a very long time, and even if he’s seen as an admirable figure, there’s a part of him that knows he’s still lowly. But I mean, I think that even if he didn’t experience that, he would still treat someone “lower” with a lot of respect. Actually, I don’t think he’d see them as lower either way.

In the end, I’d like to publish a Google doc (or maybe just post here haha) someday about why Rayman reads to me as Asian (adjacent). I hope you’re able to look forward to it. ☺️

question, how is it less problematic to like camp camp with a whole cult episode with a plethora of holocaust allegories but liking rwby from the same company is bad? coco (character) is based on the runway persona for fashion, not the actual person, and purposefully represents none of the ties to her history. im not sure if that was a joking bad faith comment but adding in something without malicious intent made the rest of your examples also seem less serious by connection

My main take away from But Im A Cheerleader right after watching it might be suprising (idk that for sure, since i just wathced it, but ya never know) but... its lowkey a sad and bittersweet story

Like, most of the kids at the camp either quit or are thrown out, which most likely means they have nowhere to go... unless they can find older supportive queers like Megan and Dolph did

The movie ends with the main character getting the girl and runnig away together... While the remaining kids at true directions complete thier "graduation"

The conversion therapy camp isnt destroyed, or overthrown, or discredited - it will probably continue for years or decades after Megan and Graham escape...

BUT

even still, as long as those lucky few kids manage to escape this awful system, it is still a victory, no matter how small in the grand scheme of things it is - even if not everyone could have been saved

Dolph Laserhawk’s body language in episode 3 and why it’s actually really interesting:

To start, I want to point something out. I’ve seen the scene between Dolph and Alex construed as romantic, or Dolph considering reconsidering getting back with Alex, but I cannot help but believe that Dolph is in fact, absolutely terrified.

This glossy, wide-eyed look is not the look we got from Dolph in episode one when he was feeling romantic, content, and relaxed. When this happens, his face, eyebrows, and eyes are Relaxed.

In fact, we only see him make this face in episode 3 and only ever in the presence of Alex after Jades death in episode three. He is even frozen enough to give Alex time to lean in and kiss him. And you might be asking, who cares, he’s scared of Alex? So what?

Well, there’s a multitude of reasons why Dolph’s body language matters so much. But the first thing my mind immediately goes to is the difference before and after Jade’s death. How does he react around Alex before Jade’s death? Well it’s simple, tunnel vision around revenge just gives him anger, nothing else, no fear, no sadness, just anger. He doesn’t care about anything else at this point.

This shift, especially following the scene where Dolph looks at Jade’s blood on his hands (pointed out by another user, I’d link the post but I can’t find it.), shows an incredibly important shift in Dolph’s character. Not just that he starts to give a damn, but this forces him to look inward. He was raised to be a cog in the machine, nothing but a crutch to Eden’s or Alex’s plans, nothing he did ever mattered or changed his inevitable fate, and it still doesn’t, but it changed others’. His callousness and inconsiderate actions killed Jade. This is the first time he’s been hurtful and cruel without there being a puppet master, this is the first time where instead of being helpless, he realizes he can hurt people with just his words and actions and not his gun.

He’s afraid. He starts to care.

This starts the chain of events that makes Dolph care enough to break out of the VR and save bullfrog, on top of being genuine to Sarah, even touching her shoulder (wow!). The change in his eyes, all by themselves, represent this change.

However, there is something much much deeper I’d like to talk about. Something that I actually haven’t seen pointed out. One that is integral to Dolph himself, rather than the overarching plot.

Why is Dolph so scared of Alex? Genuinely, why? He’s so much stronger than Alex, they aren’t dating anymore, why is this a fear we only ever see in his eyes when he sees Alex? I mean we’ve seen Dolph scared before, but it’s not the same at all if you ask me.

When he looks scared in those scenes in episode 3, it’s in a way that makes him look almost, small. Why?

Because what Alex did to Dolph, all of it, is unique to Alex. What we are seeing isn’t just fear, the reason he shrinks away from Alex’s touch, the reason he gets that specific look in his eyes isn’t just fear. It’s trauma. It’s that traumatized boy who was taken away at a young age inside of him, it is not a grown man who’s afraid of pain and death, it’s a boy who’s scared of being lied to and having his feelings hurt again. This is something really, only Alex could ever bring back out. The fear after Jade’s death only just cracks his shell.

I think this stems from the unique dynamic of someone who’s been manipulated and emotionally abused and the perpetrator. When one is abused, especially in the ways Dolph was, even when there is no possibility of being hurt and abused again, the fear lingers, not of the abuse but the memory to be relived. The look of their eyes and the feeling of their hands is world ending, it guts you inside and out in a much worse way than dying ever could. (Especially since Dolph tries to get hit with a missile right after this). Dolph is terrified because every time he has to look in Alex’s eyes, he has to relive it. No pain or threat of death can recreate the raw emotion around years of lies and manipulation.

Listen, I know Dolph leaves a lot to be desired in terms of background story and writing, but I think the way his character shows trauma is mind blowing. It is very subtle, in a releastic hurtful way. Seeing Dolph Laserhawk, who’s not even scared of death, shrink in terror at the touch of someone who hurt him, is a good parallel to how many people would genuinely rather die than go through it again. Dolph touched my soul a lot, and the body language in this episode was beautifully woven to tell his story. I hope we get more of this in season 2. (God forbid I even discuss episode 4.)

You don’t realise Mitch is married. Not until his wife shows up while you’re covering the bar after one of you sets and tells you she’s looking for her husband Mitch Keller.

She’s a tall, red head with curves that would make a Kardashian jealous and wide doe eyes that flutter like Bambi. Her name is Lola and she is indeed a showgirl, one that he got hitched to during wild night in Vegas when he was so fucking high he tried to swim in the fish tank at the Bellagio.

He tells you all of this when he finds you sitting out back on the terrace, smoking a joint and contemplating whether to slash her tires or set fire to his truck.

“You promised me I’d be the only one you’d ever put a ring on.” You remind him as you blow out a stream of smoke from between your lips.

He understands the weight of that promise, how much it had cost you at the time to take that leap of faith with him. You’d been engaged when the two of you met, to a city council man who could provide you with a financial stability you’d never had known during your childhood in that trailer park. With Sean Albernacy, you had money, you had power, and you had security. You were also bored as fuck which is why you’d been warming Mitch’s bed since that night at the rodeo.

“Don’t marry him.” He’d begged you the week before your wedding, his thumb tracing over the apple of your cheek. “Let me be the only man that ever puts a ring on your finger.”

He had barely has two cents to rub together. He can’t offer you anywhere near what Albernacy can but he can offer you love, he can offer you passion, he can offer you a lifetime of fun and freedom because the two of you are cut from the same cloth. Both wild, adventurous, untamed.

“Tell me I’m the only girl you’ll ever marry.” You'd asked as his lips began to wander.

“Oh honey.” He had smiled as he'd guided you back into his lap. “You know you’re the only girl I’d ever let tie me down.”

You don’t turn up to your own wedding, you leave your soon to be husband standing at the alter while Mitch has his wicked way with you in a motel room out in Oklahoma City.

In the present Mitch takes off his cap and runs his hand through his hair as you blow out a smoke ring into the darkness.

“I fucked up.” He says finally as he places his cap back on his head. “I fucked up because I was fucked up and I’ve been trying to fix that. I didn’t expect her to turn up here…”

“Why the fuck did she turn up here?” You ask him, because women like that don’t just suddenly appear because they remember they have a husband. “Why the fuck are you even back on her radar?”

“This isn’t how I wanted to do this.” Mitch says, his voice a little rough as he rubs his palms over each other. It’s an anxious behaviour, one you are barely used to seeing because Mitch, he’s always calm, especially in the face of adversity.

“I don’t understand.” You say as he tilts his head towards you.

“I want to marry you.” Mitch says frankly. “And to do that I had to divorce her so I sent a P.I to serve her papers and she decided she wants a payout instead.”

“Oh.” You say as you take in this new revelation. It’s something the two of you have talked about in passing but it’s never been tangible, not until now. “How much does she want?”

“About half of what the casino is worth.” Mitch informs you as he adjusts his hat.

That’s his entire share, it’s an impossible amount of money. If he does that, if he cashes out to get those papers signed that’s everything he’s worked so hard for gone and you can’t stand the idea of that.

“Well she can go fuck herself…” You respond as you stub the remains of the joint into the ashtray.  “She doesn’t have to sign the papers for you to get a divorce especially since the two of you haven’t been together…”

“She’s threatening to drag it out.” He tells you as he rubs his palms over his weary features. “It could take years…”

“Then it takes years.” You say as you reach out and clasp his hand. “I’m not in a rush.”

“But I am.” He tells you, the expression on his face pained as he looks at you. “I don’t wait to wait any longer Sunny, I wasted so much time with all that stupid shit…”

He trails off then staring down at your hand, his thumb tracing over the space where a wedding ring should be.

“I love you more than I have ever loved anybody. And all I want is to belong to you, for people to know that I’m yours and only yours. I want to love you, cherish you, obey you.” he says with a hint of humour, the edges of his mouth turning up. “I just want what we should have had all along.”

“We can still have that.” You tell him, the fingertips of your free hand chasing along the stubble of his jaw. “It just might take a little while to get there and that’s ok, there’s still a lot of fun we can have in the meantime.”

“I just want our happy ending Sunny.” He whispers as his forehead comes to rest upon yours. “I want to see you walk down that aisle in a pretty dress and promise myself to you before God and all our friends, I want them to celebrate our love, I want…”

He pauses because it hurts that he can’t give you those things right now, that he fucked up so badly that he can’t just go ahead and marry the woman he loves.

“We’ll get there Mitch.” You promise him, your palm coming to rest upon his heart so you can feel it beating underneath the tips of your fingers. “I promise you we will.”
