Barbie sculpt reference website

Some members of the Dollblr community (@firespirited and @dolljunk off the top of my head) appear to have an encyclopedic knowledge of Barbie face sculpts.

For the rest of us mere mortals, I found the most amazing website today: Barbie Second Life. If you click on "Attributes," it takes you to a page of face sculpts in alphabetical order (be still, my heart). Click a face sculpt to see a list of dolls who have it.

Hey there, if it’s alright for me to ask, I was wondering if you happened to have any tips for achieving a doll hair colour that isn’t readily available?

For example, an almost-black green, or a medium to dark grey with a slight purple tint.

(As a follow up question, do you happen to know which doll hair suppliers are trustworthy? I know that some have had controversies but I can’t keep up with them enough to know which is which 😅) Thanks bunches for your help!

Sorry it took me a while to answer, had a lot of shit happen and answering asks have gotten lost in the mix.

There are a couple options for custom hair colors. You can dye the hair with RIT for synthetics, and depending on hair type even some human hair dyes. I am NOT experienced at ALL with this method however, so I cannot tell you much more than that, or which fibers that works best with.

You can also tint hair using acrylic paint, but this doesn't work well if you're going for a dark color. Too much paint left in the hair can make it stiff and unpleasant. Here's a good tutorial for it: https://www.tumblr.com/dolljunk/140384351777/so-turns-out-the-main-tutorial-page-i-usually

The other method is making a hair blend. You take two hanks of different colored hair and mix them to create the illusion of a new color. I learned how to do this from watching wig making tutorials, and here's a video that demonstrates how to mix the fibers together:

as for hair suppliers, I personally like RestoreDoll and Shimmerlocks, but I'm sure we can get some additional recommendations in the comments lol.

Hey guys, turns out my work is cutting my hours cuz I handed my notice in a month early in hopes of giving them enough time to train a new person and I was planning on having a month's worth of income before I left for the UK, and I am really panicking right now cuz I still have expenses to cover between now and getting onto a plane to the UK.

Big announcement, I'm moving to the UK in May 2023! If anything else you needed to know, this might have a slight effect on my posts in the coming months. However, I have queued up a lot of backlog projects that will be trickling through as I pack up my entire life.

Me and my numerous piles of dolls are going to move to the UK for a few years.

After the past few years of…. well, everything, I finally have the opportunity to explore more of the world outside of Australia and it's something I genuinely feel like the universe is telling me to go follow through on.

I'll be living with a friend who I've known for over a decade and together hopefully this means some exciting projects can finally come to fruition with my friend. This involves some collaboration for more content as it'll be much easier to do things with someone I can bounce ideas from and muddle through things.

I've often felt super out of sync with the rest of the world while living in Australia that wasn't made clear to me until I visited the Northern hemisphere and things genuinely felt the most in sync in my entire life.

Hopefully this means once I've settled down in the UK I can start doing things I struggle with doing by myself at the moment, and start doing more with my passions including opening up commission work, doing videos and plugging along with the Crowdfunded doll project I've been working on for the past few years.

I'm genuinely thankful to all the support I've received on this account as I've only wanted to share a part of myself that I thought no one would have cared about and it's reached so many people. Thank you to my past and current Patreon supporters as without them I literally could not have done all of the messy real life stuff and worked my current day job without them.

I really wanted to use that floral print for the skirt, but the length was limited. So! Made it short and put it on a smaller doll.

The doll is a vintage Hong Kong clone baby/craft doll head (DollJunk sent it, and I altered the eyes to be side-glance) on the body Bandai used for the 1990s Power Rangers dolls (the way the body is designed, it almost certainly existed before then)
