Echo saying "she's not right" when she first sees the Senator's wife and all the Dollhouse staff assuming that means the Senator's wife is a doll. bc they assume dolls are "not right." but Echo means the handler! (and Echo says this in her doll state, which is starting to get smart by this point - 2x05 - but like smart for a doll.) the handler isn't right, Echo recognizes how evil she is. to Echo the handlers are the ones who are not right and do not belong. yes yes yes!

Remembering when for a wordsprint for a writing camp I came up with a speed fanfic and it was a crossover between two equally vague fandoms— The Lunar Chronicles and Dollhouse. Scarlet was a Doll, Wolf was a handler. I need to rewatch it so bad and maybe expand on my writing. Please if anyone knows these two fandoms I'm begging you

Like I get some people who say its like a teacher/student relationship the series is going for the Ghoul and Lucy. Fair enough. Probably what we will end up with.

But If a man chooses to pistol whip, slap, tie, torture and sell a young woman (again completely grown up) to "teach her a lesson" and your kneejerk reaction is - yeah parent-child relationship.

This was originaly an art roleplay (my brother was CatRat and I was the rest of the characters, as you can guess all the CatRats vignetes or mostly of them was made by him along whith the character actions). We even used a dice for determinate some parts of the roleplay, it was so fun!

magsy I wish I knew!!!! what I DO know is that Angel is not an outlier - he's very typical of the "first love" in a lot of teen vampire media. the looming in the background, the emotional constipation, the dark past that's SO dark it's basically a split personality that has to be kept in check: all of that describes Edward from Twilight and Stefan from TVD just as much as it describes Angel. and something about this character type is supposed to appeal to teen girls. the presumption here does seem to be a kind of parallel between monstrousness and masculinity, specifically, where men are terrifying but also somehow fascinating, and eventually girls will find a "good" one who has his true, monstrous nature locked the fuck down, and that makes him safe. this makes you and me squirm because we don't think any human beings have completely monstrous natures, let alone an entire gender. we think the wounds of sin don't destroy all the way down to the core, and we think those wounds can be healed in a holistic way that isn't just repression.

this is why we have to thank God every day for Scott McCall, the supernatural good-guy hero who is genuinely a good guy.
