This might not be what you were going for, but that last reblog (less so your post after) really felt like a bunch of biology majors and professional artists laughing at small casual artists for not being professional artists who can capture every animal's essence in the way they want.

It was less bitching vibes and more like bully vibes. Like, you had fun laughing at that humorous jest, sure, but it felt more like at the expense of someone else than at the expanse of entropy and life, if you get what i'm saying.

Anyways sorry if i'm overthinking this and being easily offended, i'm just throwing my opinion at your front porch and running away.

I have seen furry artists of many different skill levels do the doggification thing. "Canines are boring" is not a widely held aesthetic opinion among biologists. Canine biologists are a thing and they love their six thousand different coyote and wolf subspecies that look identical to me. Good for them, keep at it.

If you're feeling attacked by my subjective art and character design opinions that's not my problem. This is hardly my most pretentious and unpopular take. Need I again mention my strong dislike of 95% of dragon designs. They're always trying to be cool more than they're trying to be animals, I hate it. Yes that includes like every flight rising dragon. Keep tying me to the stake, I'll never shut up.

Today me and my owner were walking and he stuck out his hand and said "Paw" and instinctively I placed my hand in his and I started breathing a bit from my mouth and my brain got weird and fuzzy. When we stood at a street crossing he said "Stay." And I stopped in my tracks just like he said. When he started walking i stood perfectly still until he told me to walk.

I really really love this kind of casual doggification. I'm his dog!!! It's so wonderful.

Yo! It's Merry and a pile of ink dogs! A couple are based on fans I saw inkdogsonas or just dogsonas for, but many are based off chat mascots of (or otherwise refrence) other vtubers to allude to people watching more than one streamer, how many do you recognize? Tag yourself lol.

Letting myself ramble about it more: I actually don't watch many streamers often, I know and love Merry for his writing and just kinda hang on the fringes of vtuber stuff dropping into a PorcelainMaid stream twice a month, so I just took a list of vtubers Merry had written lore for or collabed with recently and googled "[name] vtuber fan mascot" and turned said Mascot into a dog. I've already forgotten who half the dogs were referencing so they can refrence whoever you want. And while I'm not big into streamers, yes I did know enough to put cinnamaroll as a refrence to ironmouse. I've seen clips and since it's a dog (I think) it may as well go in the pile.

Some characters, like Quinn Benet's chat, fit perfectly. Others, like Vantacrow's crows became unrecognizable after doggification. Then there's the dog in a shrimp costume because i couldn't think of any way to refrence shrimp in a dog and I decided that since several aquatic streamers have shrimp mascots I should refrence the shrimp well, not just a pinkish dog, so shrimp costume.

I've already forgotten who the dog with Writing on its forehead refrences, but I changed the word to "dog" because I could. Hope Google translate didn't betray me somehow.

While I was finishing up details on the drawing I watched a fun Matara clip so I decided to add a momo dog filling in some awkward blank space. At that point i wanted to keep going and draw even more specialized dogs, but I had to stop myself or I'd never finish this.

by far, my favorite thing about ur doggification of the hermits is that its highkey helping me try to figure out what my pupper is. shes certainly a mutt, very Creature, and were currently thinking she's some heeler variety? like she's definitely got some heeler tendencies but its hard to tell bc shes a big goofer. and also she is DEFINITELY not a shorthair. a few things that make it tough to tell with her is she has a Really Big & Floofy tail, and all the breeds/mixes that i can find that look like her do not, and her mouth is on the bottom of her snoot like a borzoi. even though her snoot is not particularly long. but it is sloped more than my other dog's?? and more sloped than most other dogs' ive seen.... maybe she does have some borzoi in there??? weve also been thinking border collie bc shes very border collie-esque,,

ANYWAY sorry for the ramble about the Silly, i got distacted and almost forgor to ask, any thoughts on someone being a Black Mouth Cur? my other pupper mentioned is a black mouth cur mutt, and i think it'd suit hypno pretty well! looks-wise for sure, i dont think that needs explanation, but personality wise im not completely sure because i also do not watch hypno but i have seen quite a few interactions with him because I watch xb and from my understanding it works pretty well?? idk its ur au

Omg!! Sound like a delightful creeture with lovely snoot!! If she has a big puffy tail she might have some Spitz in her, maybe some kind of Lurcher if she had the sighthound muzzle! This is so interesting bc i while learning about breeds i tend to do the same. My aunt has a mutt i think she might have a bit of collie/heeler in her too. And i think it mostly shows by her intense need to bark and white collar-like markings on her neck kdjrjt ig well never know but it's fun to try figuring out!

And ohh i never heard of that breed! Looked it up and it doesn't even have a wiki page in my language to see if the translatd name would ring a bell. It does look like it suits Hypno for looks tho!!! I really like it! :0 But i do have to say i was looking for a dog with brindle/markings coat so i can play with a pattern that's like.. "hypnotizing" dljdkffk but i genuinely liked the looks of this one! It's going on the list!

I think the doggification of werewolves often stems from the literal interpretation of "wolf" instead of what the "wolf" symbolizes in classic storytelling.

Because real wolves are highly social carnivores with complex relationships and hierarchies, and a pivotal role in the ecosystem that renders them positive in our modern interpretation of the animal. But the "wolf" in the werewolf specifically (there are other half-wolf creatures that have different narrative purposes and connotations), is not meant to be a biological cross between a human and a real wolf, but a metaphoric stand-in for "reason VS instinct" and "the civilized man VS inner destructive impulse".

The "wolf" in literature is a creature of the "woods", which are in itself another metaphor, this time for the unknown or the hardships of life. This "wolf" is not like a real wolf. It lurks at night in isolated places and hunts for people specifically. It is irrational and violent and there's no reason behind its bloodlust other than an insatiable, inhuman appetite. This "wolf" is a metaphor for a predator, you decide which kind.

When people interpret the werewolf as a happy puppy they're taking out the "wolf", aka the predator, and inserting... well, an actual wolf. Or a dog really, because as much as we like to meme about wolves being dogs, they're definitely not the same (but that's a whole other tangent).

Taking the werewolf specifically as a literal amalgamation of human and canine strips away its symbolism and leaves you with a very literal and straightforward character. Which is not a bad thing per se, but it does water down the concept quite a bit.

And if you use this positive werewolf as metaphor for "inner true self against societal expectations", well, that's a completely different metaphor. I call that werewolf a "wolfwalker" instead because really, it's a beast of its own.

I hate the dog-ification of werewolves >:( I by making them happy dumbos it misses the best part of transformative monstrosity: repression. If you aren't afraid of the beast within what's the fucking point. It's the big bad wolf lurking on moonlit nights it's not your golden retriever in the park at noon. Justice for repression!! Justice for the beast within!! Justice for the fear of who you could be if you really let loose! Is the monster your true self? Does the thrill of the wild outweigh the guilt that comes in the light of day, when there's mud on your feet and blood on your hands? What does it mean that you crave that which disgusts you, that the wolf isn't just something you become, it's something you always were
