imagine spending a long day with your f/o. completing chores, going out to eat, having any sort of fun date planned, anything! then you guys come home and the first thing on your mind is to take a nap 🤭 imagine one of you laying on top of the other and falling fast asleep for the night <3

For those who haven't heard this, this is a clip from the episode of David Tennant Does A Podcast With... featuring Olivia Colman, from 2019. In this clip, Olivia and David talk about people filming them without permission, the ubiquity of camera phones, and the idea of "home" as a sanctuary from loss of privacy. I thought it was something interesting to think about and consider, especially in the wake of recent events.
Transcript of notable bits below:
(Talking about a woman filming David on the set of Broadchurch) Olivia: "[...]And I was very defensive on your behalf, too." David: "I remem--Yes, there was that wonderful day on the pier at West Bay. Where I was having some microphone wire put down my trouser leg. It was very undignified." Olivia: "I think she was videoing you. From a table's distance away." David: "Yeah. I was very touched that you were furious, and you leapt at this woman. Although she sort of still didn't notice, did she? She sort of grinned and kept filming." --- Olivia: "I have friends that I adore and I like going to safe places with them--my home or their home or something." --- Olivia: "Now I noticed the world's changed. Everyone's got a fucking camera. And people are desensitized to fellow humans." David: "When you first lose that anonymity, it's quite threatening. It's much more threatening than you imagine it's going to be objectively. Cause you imagine that sort of--for want of a better word, celebrity--it somehow empowers you, but actually I think it's the opposite."

As I've gotten older, I find myself more disturbed by that horror game trope where you the player arrive to a place that's already gone to hell. Monsters are loose, everywhere you go is rife with the blood and bodies of the previous inhabitants. You find the journal entries or audio logs of those people, as they describe how their situation was deteriorating. That something beyond their comprehension is destroying their lives, killing their coworkers, neighbors, their loved ones. People who don't even get to be NPCs but are instead narrative ghosts. Everything they did was - at best - a stopgap. A delaying tactic. Nothing but a warning left behind or an unfinished, plot necessary work to be picked up by whomever comes after them; you, the player.
I think it affects me more now because I identify less with the protagonists and more with all those people who are already dead by the time you get there and were powerless to stop it.
It makes the horror better, but also so, so much worse.

Possibly the Most important thing you'll read this Year...
The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip.
You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them. Just read it straight through, and you'll get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies.
Awards tarnish.
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Easier?
The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money ... or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.

Did you ship Zutara because you wanted zuko and katara to get together
OR
Did you ship Zutara because you wanted to be katara and had a crush on zuko
(EDIT: I am a multi-shipper so I do ship Zutara and meant no hate. This was just something that hit me at like 2 am because my 10 year old self wanted to be Katara)

F: And then we, um… V: Bonded. F: Bonded? We bonded?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
V: Yeah, you could say that.
I love the delivery of this line. Ray looks/sounds like he's about to laugh, but also like he's on the verge of tears
about to laugh because there is so much history between the two of them that 'bonded' really can't come anywhere close to capturing it... the shenanigans they experienced (and caused), the bickering and bantering, all the driving each other crazy in the best of ways
and on the verge of tears because this version of Fraser doesn't remember any of that... all of the times they laughed together, grieved together, the times they had each other's backs and saved each other's lives, the good times (and the bad) that they lived through together... Fraser's forgotten it all
Ray's grappling with having potentially lost Fraser, even though Fraser is still alive, and Ray fixates on helping Fraser get his memories back, I believe both because he genuinely wants to help Fraser navigate the unfamiliar waters he's found himself in (flashes back to the pilot, when Constable Benton Fraser was new to the city and Ray decided then too that he was going risk his life and career over and over and over again to help him), but also because he doesn't want to have to accept a reality in which he's lost his best friend
it feels like Ray is using a softer version of his typical joking/sarcastic tone, it seems very in-character for him to try to use humor to mask the true depths and sincerity of his statement, trying to hide the vulnerability he's feeling in this moment, but I think the underlying sentiment shines through nonetheless
Ray is so incredibly fond of Benton Fraser
